Preferred Solution: I can't turn on auto rotation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi @Sabrinawang06,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible  and the auto rotate not working correctly. I would make sure all updates have been done on the Notebook first. Restart the Notebook. Here is a link to show you how to configure and disable the screen rotation feature. Checking first that is has not been disabled and it is on Portrait mode. The Multi-Sensor Enabling Driver enables the Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and eCompass sensors that provide rotation control functionality typically used in tablets and cellular phones. Here is the download sp68464.exe Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

The X1 Yoga 2 has an issue where locking rotation in tablet/tent mode while the screen is rotated to an orientation that is not the same as laptop/landscape mode does not auto-reset to the correct orientation when returned to laptop mode. It also disables the rotation lock toggle in the Win10 action center so that the user cannot just rotate to the correct orientation.  Flip from laptop to tent or tablet mode, then change the orientation to any mode that isn't the same as the way it is in laptop mode (say Portrait), and "Lock Rotation". Then, revert to laptop mode. The orientation will be stuck in the tablet orientation, but since it's locked in laptop mode, won't let you revert it. You have to flip it back to tablet/tent, unlock "Lock Rotation", and flip back into laptop mode for it to appear correctly.  I noticed this a while back. I do this a lot as I'll be configuring something like a router or switch in laptop mode, then flip to a tablet and walk around in tablet/portrait mode monitoring the network (or chasing wireless dead spots with a wifi signal app). When I need to go back to laptop mode (to use the physical keyboard for configuration in an SSH session), I have to remember to get the orientation right (or unlock "Lock Rotation") before I flip back or it'll get stuck. Fujitsu T-series laptops have a little app that allows you to set which is the preferred for each mode in the control panel, which then sets that for you when you change from la... Hey guys, I'm having trouble with my screen rotation. To start with there was no rotation, no button in the notifications area, and no option in display settings. After reading a few similar threads, I updated my BIOS, and checked my drivers. 3 Human interface drivers weren't functioning, so I uninstalled them and checked for changes and they reinstalled apparently correctly. Now I have the rotate icon (and auto rotate option in display settings), however they are both locked, with no option to unlock them. The screen will rotate manually with ctrl+Alt+ arrow keys, but the auto rotate won't work. I suspect it has something to do with a sensor driver, but as I can't find a sensor driver in Device manager I'm not sure.I hope this makes sense, and I hope yu can help, thx

No more option in the display settings and the registry keys for auto rotation were set to 0. The HID Sensors in the device manager are installed properly. I tried reinstalling Windows 10 and it worked, but after rebooting once more, it stopped working again. I have read that there are many people with this problem, maybe somebody has found a solution?

A few days ago the auto rotation in tablet mode stopped working on my Yoga 460. The auto rotation lock button had vanished from the action centre and once I got the button back still nothing happened when the rotation lock was disabled. After some searching I found the solution to the issue which was actually 2 separate issues. In the registry find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotationAnd set sensorPresent to 1Also in the registry find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\POLICIES\Microsoft\Windows\locationAndSensorsand set DisableSensors to 0The auto rotate worked when I got my laptop and I have no idea why these settings got changed but it all seems to be working now. Hopefully this helps somebody and I don't think these issues are limited to the yoga, others seem to be having similar issues with spectre and surface devices.

After Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop appears to be running flawlessly except one major annoyance: the screen no longer auto-rotates when in tablet mode.  This is a convertible PC, so this basically renders tablet mode useless.
Details:
Fully updated system prior to installation of Win10
After upgrade, I updated all of dell's applications, drivers (one exception, see below)*, and bios.
Display settings - "Lock Position" is turned on permanently (greyed out, cannot adjust)
*When I try to upgrade the video driver, it fails because the recommended driver update for my system (July 23rd, 2015) says its older than the current version.
I suspect this is a driver issue.  Should I go ahead and install the older driver?  I know Win10 just rolled out so I expected a few hiccups but I was surprised to find very little info about this issue as of yet.  I use my laptop as a tablet quite frequently, so I would like to find a solution to this problem quickly. Thank you all for your help!

So, I've had my Inspiron 13 for about a year or so. I've had no real major issues or complaints, including upgrading to Windows 10 and those that I did have were solved with a simple search. After having my laptop for a year, its storage eventually filled up. I used a program called CCleaner to delete any junk files on my system, doing my best to make sure the program didn't delete any files that I needed, or that were necessary to the system. However, my best wasn't good enough as my system lost its functionality to automatically rotate depending on what orientation the system is in (Auto-Rotate). I went to the support page for my model, ran the system diagnostic more times than I can remember, as well as doing a full system scan twice, but all the tests showed that my system had no errors and was up to date. I reinstalled all the drivers on the support page, and uninstalled and reinstalled QuickSet64 and the ST Microelectronics 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer Driver, as this thread had suggested the problem may lie there. I also downloaded the Dell "Intel Chipset Driver" as this thread had suggested, verified that QuickSet64 was starting up with my system as this thread had recommended, and disabled the sensor in Device Manager and re-enabled as this thread writer had done, along with updating as many items in Device Manager as I could. I did however notice that I only had one sensor whereas others have seen two, and the numerous t... Read more

Hello, since a year or so I have a Lenovo X1 yoga running on 64-bit Windows 10. So far without any problems. Yesterday late in the evening I updated my computer via Lenovo Vantage. Today, several hours later, during a meeting I wanted to take a note with OneNote and the pen. Because I like to use the Lenovo in this scenario like a booklet I used the short cut Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow to switch the orientation. This time the screen didn't respond. Also turning the Lenovo in such a way that the Auto Rotation feature will do its job didn't work. So I looked into the display settings, etc. and saw that the Auto Rotation feature were disabled. Two hours later searching the internet and trying all the steps in article https://windowsreport.com/rotation-lock-grayed-windows-10/#9 (except the last one, namely resetting the system) my Lenovo still wasn't running smoothly ... At the end you'll find some some screen shots regarding the update status. Help would be much appreciated. Regards, Gerhard

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga: Auto Rotation lock is grayed out

I have the same problem with my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. Additionally, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Rotation-Lock-is-greyed-out-in-X1-Tablet-Gen3/m-p/4175... seems to describe the same problem as mine, but on X1 Tablet 3rd Gen. Most of the time when it wakes up from sleep, it's stuck in either tablet or laptop hardware mode:- either the keyboard and the trackpoint/touchpad don't respond,- or the touchpad stays enabled even when the laptop is flipped into tablet form. When this happens, Windows does not switch to/from tablet mode automatically when the laptop is flipped.- If it's stuck in laptop hardware mode, "rotation lock" is grayed out;- if in tablet hardware mode, it is not grayed out.In both cases, it does not rotate automatically, but rotation can be changed manually in display settings.Rebooting or hibernating and turning the laptop on again makes everything work. I have tried the SensorInfo application. When the laptop is stuck in one mode, either of the following happens:- The "SimpleOrientationSensor" shows "Faceup" when the laptop is flipped into tablet form, and "Rotated 270" when the screen is rotated clockwise into portrait orientation. Windows still does not rotate the display - the same behavior as in laptop hardware mode.- All the sensor tabs return no data or zeroes. Windows also does not rotate the display. All the updates available from Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage are installed.

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem and found a solution for me to attempt: After upgrading to Windows 10, the Yoga 11 isn't rotating properly. I've unlocked rotation via the manual button, and by going into tablet mode and changing the settings. Nada. It's stuck on the laptop orientation. (This inability to switch orientation defeats the whole functionality of a Yoga hybrid.) I've restarted once, and the autoration seemed to work fine after that, whether in tablet mode or tent mode or laptop mode...for a while. Now it's jinxed again. I didn't encounter this problem prior to the upgrade. Is there a more permanent way to fix the glitch than restarting ad infinitum? Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Hi danielius16,I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.
Ensure that the auto-rotate box is checked. Refer to these steps:1. Right click or press and hold on an empty area on your desktop, click/tap on Screen resolution.2. Check the Allow the screen to auto-rotate box, and click/tap on OK
Unlock Screen Auto-Rotation in Charm Settings. Refer to these step:
1. Open the Charms bar, and click/tap on Settings.2. Click/tap on the Screen button.3. Click/tap on the screen icon above the brightness slider to toggle to unlock autorotation.
(A lock symbol appears next to the screen icon when autorotation is locked. The screen will not rotate when you change the orientation of the tablet.  If there’s no lock symbol next to the screen icon, the screen will auto-rotate as you turn the tablet).
You can also check by installing available Windows updates including Optional updates.
Hope this helps you.

Hello awlmyne,
Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs and then clicking Windows Defender.
Click Tools, and then click Options.
Under Administrator options, select the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
This should then enable you to see in Windows Security Centre - Malware Protection -
"Windows Defender is turned on."

[When Windows Defender is on, you will be alerted when spyware and other potentially unwanted software tries to install itself, run on your computer, or change important Windows settings. If you use the default settings, Windows Defender will also check for new definitions, regularly scan for spyware and other potentially unwanted software, and automatically remove any detected item that has a recommended removal action.]
Hope that helps.

Hello!

I just recently built a PVR computer(Personal Video Recorder) which records about 30 video files a week. (3 - 8 GB / piece)

It's all working fine, but I've run into a rather strange problem with Windows. I'm using XP Home (I could change this to Pro if needs be), and I've found that Windows automatically defragments the hard drives every once in a while which really kind of throws a wrench into the works. (It slows the hard drive access WAY down.) Since these video files are coming in over a period of two hours, the files usually end up pretty fragmented. So, I guessing Windows just decides to start defraging them. Do you know of any way to turn off this "feature"? I've only just begun to search the registry and haven't found a thing yet.

Thanks!

Ben

Hello!

I just recently built a PVR computer(Personal Video Recorder) which records about 30 video files a week. (3 - 8 GB / piece)

Welcome to the forums
I wonder if somehow the defrag starts due to the task scheduler. Have you checked that yet? It would be a starting point...doc

I know there are other posts on this subject but they don't help. I disabled Autorun with avg tools, but want it back on. It shows it is on but it will not start. Hope someone has an answer for me.

In windows seven there is an tab called Communications that will auto turn down the volume by YZ% when you wan it to. Before I rewrote my Windows 7 system it turn down the music when I had an incoming call via Skype. Now after reinstalling my Windows 7 system even with the setting set correctly and label in the Playback and Recording listing as default communication device it still don't work not work anymore with Skype. All the posting that I come across are trying turn the feature off so it don't work. I can't find one with similar problems then me of it not working. Everything I can think of don't work so I thought I post up the issues here to see if anybody has a thoughts on how to get it to work again.

Any ideas?

A:Sound Don't Auto Turn Down?

Try setting the audio input device that you use with Skype as your default communications device in the recording sound control panel.

I created a backup of my hard drive files onto a CD. It contains very important data. Yet when I put the CD into my CD drive, I can hear it spinning and trying to be read, but I get a window that says something like "Searching for Auto Play" or "Seeking/starting Auto Play", then it just hangs there forever and freezes the rest of my computer - until I take out the CD. It's obviously trying to seek an autorun file, but as far as I know, none of my data files on that CD include any autorun files! Why would it do this? Is there a way to turn off the autorun feature?

I have Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron laptop. Thanks!
