Q: SFC.exe Prompt saying there are corrupted files and they are fixed.

Hi Everybody,

First post here should be an easy one.. Well after running sfc/scanow in cmd prompt I finally solved all my issues.. the problem I am having if I run sfc.exe it still says there are corrupted files but there is not.

I looked in the cbs log and it stated at the last part the all files and transactions have been repaired which they have.. I will post that part in code.. now why is when I run sfc.exe it reports there are still corruption and my question is can I clear that so it report no integrity violations??

here is part of the log:

Preferred Solution: SFC.exe Prompt saying there are corrupted files and they are fixed.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday I tried to do a system restore due to bad audio drivers I installed, and got error 0xc0000022. So then I ran CMD sfc, and I got the error, "Windows source protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". So I don't know how to manually fix corrupted files, so I'm wondering if you guys can help me. I have my sfc details here. SFC Details - Pastebin.com. Thank you.

(Sorry if I put this in the wrong thread, I don't know where to put it.)

A:Corrupted files not fixed through sfc scan through CMD.

Hey, there is a known issue with a recent Windows Update (KB3022345), it causes an irrepairable corruption warning (which is a false report, the files are not corrupt in reality). If you have this update installed then do one of the following:
- Uninstall this update (it is Windows 10 preparation update) or
- Run the fix from The Tech Cookbook – Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

After the above, run another SFC /scannow. If you still get a corruption, attach it in your next post.

Corrupted files found by sfc /scannow cannot be fixed(please see attachment). Have gone through the sfc tutorial. The attached files cannot be fixed with chkdsk /r/f. I believe Windows7 SP1 is corrupted as my laptop cannot implement many of the current updates, and have errors when attempting to update (please see attachment). The laptop is from CyberpowerPC thus Microsoft will not allow me to download a Windows 7 SP1 ISO, which would allow me to perform repair install.

Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

A:Corrupted files found by sfc /scannow cannot be fixed.

Run this command in CMD as administrator.

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

This should repair the corruption.

Also when this is finished, perform a Disk Cleanup. Select "Clean System Files". Check the Windows Update box, and whatever boxes you feel need cleaned up. This may take a bit of time to complete if you've never performed this task, overnight while you sleep is not a bad option

Please let us know if this gets you sorted.

Hi guys.. i think how it started is i was scanning with my anti virus.. and i had some errors so i click optimize.. then i tried to start playing my games then it said, corrupted files on C please run CHKDSK on C drive.. i did run and it says cannot proceed on read only/the volume is too big schedule on your next restart? and i click yes but it never fix anything..
please help...
just a summary i have corrupted disk, probably the C one and i dont know how to fix it.. can tell me how?

A:Corrupted Drivers cannot be fixed..

Chkdsk only finds bad links between drivers. It doesn't scan drivers and replace them with good copies. You do have a program in your Vista installation, however, that does do this, and it is called the System File Checker, or SFC.

"Run as Administrator" a command prompt and type in sfc /scannow

The program will scan every protected operating system file on your computer for errors and if it finds a bad file it replaces it with a good copy.

Then, restart your computer.

Hope this helps the problem!

I'm going to try restoring a corrupted profile by copying files from the corrupted one to a new profile. I have the following questions:

1. Microsoft's "Fix A Corrupted User Profile" page advises not to copy ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, and ntuser.ini. My corrupted profile has quite a few files beginning with ntuser, some look similar to keys in the profilelist section of the registry, some have different names than the three MS refers to. Should any of them be copied into the new profile?

2. The corrupted profile shared files with other computers, based on the profile's user name. What's the best way to maintain the share and ownership settings? Will renaming the old profile and then changing the name of the new profile to what the old one was called maintain these settings?

3. I'm going to take this opportunity to move some of the larger files in the corrupted profile off my C: drive. Will that create a problem if they are not transferred to the new profile?

Thanks very much for any help.

I made the mistake of using CCleaner and having it "fix" registry errors. Some of my basic functions (only a couple) aren't working correctly. I plan to upgrade to 7 the first chance that I get on or after Oct 22nd. Also, with the upgrade, will it be a download with detailed instructions on how to back up data etc?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I did and then all the drivers were gone as expected, but when i went to get them from the dell website. the drivers would work. for example the intel drivers on the dell website started a boot loop, i got in to the main desktop and it instantly shut down everytime until i reset it again. so dell im asking for a request to fix all the drivers or give me older drivers that work. thank you

A:dell latitude 10 st2e drivers on website are corrupted or not fixed.

What OS are you installing?  The only drivers listed are for Win 8/8.1
Also, after installing Windows 8/8.1 the Intel Motherboard chipset drivers must be installed BEFORE installing any device drivers.  If the chipset drivers are not installed, device driver installs can fail as one of the things the chipset drivers do is identify all the devices on the motherboard.

Hello all,

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my laptop has been having some strange issues lately. I cannot run .msi files, and device manager never populates a full list. Sometimes (rarely, but it does repeat) Windows Explorer will freeze, and if I attempt to close it and reopen it using task manager, the UI reloads, but whenever I click on a folder it claims Windows cannot load explorer. Restarting fixes that. I scheduled and ran CHKDSK, and it repaired a few bad sectors, but it didn't fix any of these problems. I have run CCleaner (both the regular cleaner and registry fixer) and defragmented my hard drive until it's only 1% fragmented. I then tried sfc /scannow, and it read a bunch of corrupted files but could not repair them. I read that to fix sfc, you must download and run Windows System Update Readiness Tool. It has been running and "Searching for Updates on this Computer" for about an hour now, and I'm getting concerned that it's just not doing anything. It's not frozen, the bar keeps moving from left to right and I can click on and off of it. I also have the logs from sfc if anyone wants to take a look at them, they'll be attached. The computer isn't very old, and has an intel i3 and 4gb of ram. If you would like any extra information to help, please reply and I'll get back to you as fast as I can Any recommendations on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for any and all help!

If there is an UNDO backup from that utility RUN it.

There are a lot of Winsxs errors in your log.

AFTER surt has run

So, I reformatted my computer again. Did some SFC scans before I installed any Microsoft updates and all scans were clean. Did all the updates, drivers, program installations. Couple days later I decide to check with SFC and found some errors. There's also errors at the source, meaning I can't replace them correct? This seems kind of stupid. Always having corrupted files no matter how many times I reformat.

Hi. Two days ago, I transfered a large amount of files, mostly music, from an external hardrive onto my laptop. Today, I noticed an error message shown with a triangle next to the clock on my screen saying "aolload.exe - Corrupt File." I ignored this, and later got this message for various other programs. I finally decided to try running chkdsk through the command prompt, and then I got a "Corrupt File" message for this program.

This is very bothersome, is there anything I can do?

A:Corrupted Files, Chkdsk Also Corrupted.

If you have access to a Windows XP CD, boot from the disk and choose the option to use Recovery Console by pressing R
Choose your windows installation (if more than one listed)
Enter your Administrator account password. This is not necessarily the same password you use to login. If you do not know the password for this account, try pressing ENTER (i.e. Use a blank password)

Run CHKDSK from the command prompt.

N.B. Disconnect all external hard drives\flash drives before booting from the CD, as they often get labelled C: over your hard drive.

Hi tonedef -

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

What version of Office are you trying to install (e.g, 2003 or 2007)?

Have you changed any file permission settings or "Taken Ownership" of any folders/files?

The "scan disk" that you mentioned running... was it "sfc /scannow"? If not, click on START | type cmd.exe in the Start Search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Admin

In the screen that comes up type the following:

sfc /scannow (space after sfc) - press ENTER

Let this run. Try Office re-install.

Good Luck. . .

My desktop (Dell Optiplex 755, W8.1 Pro 32-bit, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33GHz) has been playing up over the weekend.

1) Have run restore point 30 June.
2) Sometines beeping (seems like 3-2-3) & not starting. Have removed the 3 RAM sticks, & replaced one at a time. All allowed it to start, so put all back & now booting OK.
3) Ran SFC /scannow, and reported corrupt files found and unable to fix some of them

I am attaching a screen shot of the sfc report, and also attaching the SFC log file.
The latter is many pages if info reports. Can anyone suggest how to interpret the log, and/or how to repair the system please?

As the lpg file CBS.log is nearly 5MB I have split it into 3 files named CBS20140707-a.log.txt, CBS20140707-b.log.txt & CBS20140707-c.log.txt to fit within the 2MB limit for attachment size.

A:Corrupt files not fixed by SFC

sfc /scannow sometimes requires to run multiple times to fix the problem. FYI, you can delete the contents of the CBS folder before running sfc so that it will create a new up to date CBS.log with much smaller size.

Hello everyone,

First my SFC scan was done after image (just as a caution) I am not experiencing any problems (it had been a very long time since I did one).

I used the sfc /scannow command from an elevated cmd in normal mode and it completed fine (I did re-run it several times as in tutorial) but indicated it could not fix some items. So I ran the command to save log to desk top and in review there are no entrees showing any flagged files (what files it could not fix).

As a note: I don't remember running the utility since changing over to Kaspersky Internet security last year. I also recently removed EMET 3.0 being carful to ensure default settings with re-boot before removal via add and remove.

I am just wondering if this is of any concern for further investigation, again everything seems to be working fine at this point.

Many thanks to all on the forum -- Bill

A:SFC scan log does not show files that cannot be fixed in log

Hello Bill,

If you like, go ahead and place a copy of your CBS.log file in a ZIP, and upload it. I'll be happy to take a look at to see if there may be any SFC details in it to report back to you with.

I originally had windows 7 installed but then upgraded to windows 10. I dont know how to go about fixing this problem now.. can anyone please help?

I recently removed XP Defender Pro from my machine using this help thread. The malware was removed, however, most exe files cause the "open with" prompt to popup, and consequently will not run. Firefox, IE, notepad, DDS, and a few others work fine. I searched the forums to see if anyone else that has removed XP Defender Pro had similar issues and found a few but no fixes. Any ideas as how to fix this?

If Windows is not booting, I assume that you are running System File Checker (sfc) from the recovery options area? At the same place, you can repair the MBR. Try entering bootrec.exe /FixMbr. You can find out more information about bootrec.exe on this Microsoft article.

Hello:

I am new to this site and have done some various reading throughout and am having an issue with the sfc /scannow files not being fixed. Unfortunately I am VERY computer novice. What I have done at this point is I have figured out how to save the CBS log on my desktop, but I have no idea at all how to show it on here. I have also found & deleted the two updates that are KB3022345 & KB3068708 that appear to be issues, but deleting them both made no difference. I hope im posting this in the correct thread and definitely will look forward to hearing responses. Thank-you.

Ok, one of our computers was infected. After a quick goodle, I found a tutorial that used Stopzilla to fix. Which it seemed like it did. However things were still acting funny and then I found the tutorial here. I followed instructions malwarebytes, rkill, unhide etc... Everything "almost" seems fine, but there is one program that will not install or uninstall. It keeps saying files/location is missing.

When trying to reinstall the software (quick depost software for chase bank) the error message states files or install package location is missing. I'll get a screen capture of the msg shortly. Presently installing host file fix.

Hi

on my windows 8.1 x64 PC I am having a lot of problems with programs hanging or not starting etc

I ran SFC /Scannow and got this message

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."

The file will not open and also how do I get the corrupted files fixed.

I have run a Kaspersky 10 Boot Disk anti-virus scan and no issues were found.

So how do I fix the corrupt files?

Thanks

I am running Win XP Pro and have been fighting an infection for a few days.

Was running Symantec EndPoint Protection, but it got past that.

Uninstalled and installed AVG Free, ran full scan

Ran Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Advanced System Care, and Glary Registry Repair.

Found and removed a number of virus files:

tpsaxyd, wiwow64, pp10, and many many others.

At one point, networking wasn't working, USB ports not working, programs freezing up, system resources overloaded, low RAM, processor running forever, and one BSOD.

I've gotten everything back, but am not sure if it's completely gone or if it's still hiding somewhere and will come back. I do notice what appears to be the processor coming on and off very slightly based on the light on my laptop. That seems strange.

If someone were willing to assist me in checking if I'm truly clean via hijack this or combofix, I would sincerely appreciate it. Also, I'd love to know why my supposed "latest and greatest" Symantec Endpoint totally blew it.

Thanks again

I did some more research and found out about CHKDSK F and did that and selected for it to run on computer restart. I than restarted my computer and it did a normal restart and did not run CHKDSK. Now I am stuck.

I can't install iTunes or anything.

Can you help?

Code:
chkdsk /r press enter say "Y" to run at reboot
Restart your computer.

It requires that the command be run as administrator.

I'm writing this for a friend who cannot do much on his computer at the moment. It is saying that the files are all corrupted and when we attempted to run svc /scannow and look at the log file, after a restart it won't allow us to view said log file saying that the file is corrupted. The command prompt also listed that there were files corrupted that were also unable to be fixed.
He had just gotten rid of Norton Security and installed Avast. Can anyone help us?

i have been having problems with windows update not running.

I did the automatic repair thing and it gets to 'starting bits service' and just hangs there no matter how long I leave it.

After a bit of searching for things to try I did:

sfc / scannow

It says there are corrupt files which it cannot fix. I can provide further details from windir/logs/cbs/cbs.log if that would be useful but its quite big so I'm not posting it straight away.

Then run the sfc command again and reboot when completed.

System is running Windows XP

The user took it to me (I built it about 2 years ago from a TigerDirect barebone deal)when she lost all Internet connectivity. I had installed AVAST which was still running but she had also installed AVG. Both were resident. I also noticed that she has installed some type of "PC Power Boost" program which I did not recognize.

While I can see all the files using the Windows File Explorer, while in a command prompt window no files are displayed with the DIR command. I can CD all I want to navigate the directories but I cannot see any files. Windows does not show that any files are hidden when I check the attributes.

Malwarebytes located a few files but rebooting after removing them did not fix this issue. When I tried to run the AVG program in safe mode, it started but returned to the start screen after about 2 seconds with nothing found or removed.

I suspect that there is a BOOT virus or rootkit installed.
