I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just get the new HP Spectre X360 recently (earlier this month) and I've been loving it so far except for the battery life. I have been barely getting 5.5~6 hours (which is not even close to the advertised 14 hour battery life) with the battery saver settings while being connected to a stable wifi network and just listening to music and browsing on the web. Is there any way to resolve this issue? I also checked the battery through the HP Assistant program and it seems fine.

I just purchased the new Spectre x360 (i5 6200u version, model number d108) and I'm experiencing muddling battery life. I only seem to be managing around 6 hours or so of casual browsing. This is with the screen brightness down to the lowest possible, killing/removing unnecessary programs and barely anything running in the background other than Google Drive. I've seen a review which managed to get 9 hours of browsing and that was on the version running the Broadwell CPUs which are supposedly not quite as efficient as the newest ones. So what's going on here? I know manufacturers exaggerate but half the marketed time with minimal load and lowest brightness doesn't seem right?

Hi @fanalk,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 with poor battery life. Battery life will vary depending on numerous factors including product model, configuration, loaded applications, features, use, wireless functionality, and power management settings. The maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and usage. Here is a link to a performance troubleshooter with Windows. Biggest thing is the Apps are not closed or stopped. Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

This is the second time I upgraded my laptop to Vista from XP, and this time the battery life sucks.
First time, battery lasted about 1-2 hours.
With XP, it's 2-2.5 hours.
Now, it's 30-45 minutes.
How can I improve this life? Or does it improve with time as ReadyBoost and SuperFetch or something settles in?

A:Poor battery life

I would first just go through the Power Option settings

Right-Click, the battery icon, and select power options, then select change plan settings for whatever plan, and then select change advanced power settings.

See if you can find something

I have the same problem with my 15-ba079dx. After a bad customer service I experienced and the weird set up that disallows native admin to make changes to the OS on a desktop, I vowed to never buy an HP again. However, I was lured by a fantastic price on this touchscreen w powerhouse specs for the price after I accidentally killed my beloved Toshiba. Since jump, the battery longevity has been AWFUL. I cannot even watch a full movie; I'm getting 90 min or even less. It made the laptop useless for school, since most classrooms don't have plugs at desks and I wound up carrying a brick all day before even the 1st class finished.

For exemple, yesterday I had 23% left of battery, I closed the laptop so it was in sleep mode and when I reopened it today this morning I had left 3% of battery and Windows shut down. All my applications closed and I lost some work. And yesterday my battery went from 100% to 23% in less than 3 hours. Is it normal ? No movie or game... How to test my battery ? What can I do in Windows to improve my battery life ?Thanks,Vincent.

Hey there! So I just picked up my Yoga 3 14 after reading a number of reviews. From what I read people seem to to be clocking up around 7 hours. Since owing the machine I have updated the OS to Windows 10 and installed a few bits and bobs. As I sit here with the screen brightness at 50% Windows tells me that I have 2 hours remaining. Naturally this estimate varies quite a bit but I generally seem to be getting around 3 hours of light use. Running the windows battery health check shows that the battery looks OK so I'm not sure why I seem to be getting less battery life than the revewers, unless Windows 10 is a massive battery hog. Also, I tend to keep the brightness around 50% and the power plan on balanced. Any more Yoga 3 14 owners out there? How does your battery fair?

Hi, I've had my HP Envy 15 for abou 1.5 years now, but the battery has never lasted more than 1.5 hours without a charge. This seems awful short for a product that advertises online as 8-9 hours.  I've bought a replacement battery (no change), people always post online that it's related to the brightness settings (mine is set at just about 1/3 bright... ie not bright at all), and I've read about redoing the battery control method in Device Manager.  None of these have had any effect.   There has to be something that can be done to get a laptop to last longer than this.  90 minute battery life doesn't even make it much of a laptop anymore and keeps me constantly locked to a desk.  Any thoughts?  Or any possible batteries that actually work better than this one?

So I've had this T470s for over a year, I have since seen quite a few reports about poor battery life on this model and about great battery life on T470. My 2 batteries are still holding 80% and 84% of their original capacity, but I am getting around 4 hours of browsing and light editing on 90%-full brightness and low performance mode. (i5-7200U, 25W TDP) My question is whether I could increase battery life on this specific model (I'm not asking the casual stuff like disabling background services etc., is there anything laptop-specific I could do)? Any particular reason why it's so bad? It's thin and light but getting 3-4 hours out of a borderline-new laptop from 2017 is kinda dog**bleep**. T470 weights 200 grams more and has reportedly the best battery life of all Thinkpads to date.

From what I've seen a 15% - 20% reduction in capacity is more or less typical. If running windows 10 I'd suggest you run the: Settings --> Battery --> "See what apps are affecting my battery life"function - perhaps some background apps got installed that are consuming power. Then there are the generic recommendations:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20443/windows-10-battery-saving-tips  That's all I've got..............

Hello, I have bought a refurbished L470 which seems brand new but it seems that the battery has a short life. With a normal use, reading pdf and searhing stuff on the net it only lasts around 2-3 hours. When buying it, it was written in the description that it has a battery life of *22 hours though i don't remember in what case of usage. My previous laptop was a Macbook pro and when i first bought it, it's battery life was far greater. Is this normal for a Thinkpad and are there any apps or anything to check the battery life and cycles myself? Thanks in advance

Hi! A few months ago I bought a Dell E7450. One of the main reasons for choosing this laptop was the battery. According to reviews it should do over 8 hrs of web surfing.
That apparently was far from the truth. The laptop at best does 3-4 hours of moderate use. Probably because of the nvidia 840m GPU. I thought I would be able to manually disable the GPU in BIOS, but there is no option for that.
Is there any way to increase battery life? Would dell support be able to help me in any way?

I've got a brand new Elite x2 1011. Battery drains at 3.5% per hour in Sleep mode and .5% when completely off. HP support says batterys are fine, I see the same result with both Powered and Travel Keyboard and with WiFi off, there doesn't seem to be an connection to programs running. There also isn't an option for a Hibernate mode. Unit has been wiped and reloaded twice, once with HP standard reload and one with out. Unit has a ton of other little "ticks" and issues but this one is the most enoying. I have an old ProBook that last tons longer in hibernate mode. Not sure if this is considered normal operation. I have had this thing for 2 years, and now the battery only lasts 15 minutes. What is wrong? Also, I checked ebay and amazon, and nothing comes up for a replacement battery. Acer's website does not even list the laptop as a model. Where can I get a new battery? Also, the laptop fried the OEM charger, so I am using an igo green charger, and that is starting to die.

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2 14 for school and general purposes. In general I really like it, but I have noticed that the battery life is not like the 9h (or was it 6h?) that were advertised. I should also note that this is with power saving mode on. Have I gotten a bad battery or is this basically what I can expect with this product?  You can see the specs in this link: http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=3019464

Hi I recently bought an Ideapad Y700-14isk. The model is 80NU000WUS. I am having issues with the battery. Since the first day the battery life has been very poor. While using windows 10 power saving settings, and also graphics options set to power save, I am only able to get 1.5-2 hours when running minimal programs and no games. I just use chrome to study but the battery life is incredibly poor. Has anyone else been having issues with the 14" version? I was wondering if the battery is upgradeable to a higher capacity, and where I could possibly buy one from. I understand its a gaming laptop but 2 hours on a full charge while studying power point slides in the chrome browser is just too poor for me. Please let me know if any of you have this issue, and if there is a way to buy a higher capacity battery. Any input helps. Thanks in advance.  I spoke to tech support twice and both times they seemed very clueless. Not helpful at all.

When I got my Spectre about 6 mo ago I go 8-10 hrs on a charge when doing word processing and e-mail.  However that recently dropped to less than 4 hrs.  After spending several hours with HP Support, we could find nothing obviously wrong with the machine.  A look at the Task Manager CPU useage revealed nothing extraordinary and the HP Battery check indicated the battery was "ok".  In preparing to send the machine back to HP, I decided to first try to reimage it, i.e. wipe the disk and reload the operating system.  HP makes this easy to do.  Once the new image was installed I methodically  loaded each of my major applications one-by-one and retested the battery life after each install.  I now get 8-10 hrs of battery life. During this process I did not update any of the drivers.  This suggests that one of the recent driver upgrades is the culprit to my battery problem so I'm now much more cautious in accepting these.  I always do a restore point before proceeding and test the battery life afterwards. Testing the battery life can be done in several ways.  The key is consistency.  The method I use is to edit the power settings so that the screen stays on and the machine remains awake.  I then just let it sit for a while.  I typically see a loss of 10% of battery power per hour.  Prior to the reimage I saw 25-30% reduction per hour.

I recently bought my Spectre x360 and overall I am very happy with my purchase. However, I am a bit concerned with battery life. For my version (i7 processor and UHD screen) I am only achieving about 5 hours usage from each charge. I had expected nearer 9 hours from the adverts for the model. Reading messages from other users I seem to find that to achieve nearer 9 hours i should lower screen brightness to about 50%. Surely the main reason for buying a notebook with a UHD-4K screen is for the display to be bright especially when watching videos (Nertflix, iPlayer etc).Any suggestions about improving battery life please

Hi,  I was not super sure as to where to post this so I put "Notebook Video, Display and Touch".So I bought this new HP Spectre x360 about a week ago during the cyber sales in preparation for classes at University next semester as I was wanting something small, lightwieght, and with a long lasting battery that could get me though the shcool day. I love everything about this laptop except it seems to have a very short battery life. When I bought it, all the tech reviews and the official HP website claimed an 11 to 12 hour battery life, however I cannot seem to get more than around 4 or 5. Perhaps the battery is bad?I do not know too much about computers so I had my brother help me choose the model. I have the i7 6500u, 16gbs of ram, and a 512gb SSD. My brother said with these specific components, the battery life could be effected a little bit but was under the impression that it would still be able to serve me at least 8 hours while at school. Should I contact HP support about the battery life problem? Thank you for any advice you can give me.

I bought the i7, QHD version of the Spectre convertible laptop two days before Christmas. Overall, I think it's a great product - which makes it even sadder that I'm thinking of returning it.The advertisements said 11 hours of battery life. Now, obviously that's not going to be accurate for normal everyday usage, but the salespeople in the store (and common sense) said that it would probably still get at least an eight hour, more like nine hour battery life on a single charge. Nope! FOUR HOURS. That's ridiculous. That's just over a third of the advertised battery life.I thought (and still think) it might be an issue with the battery itself, as the computer runs really really hot - it's basically impossible to put this thing on my lap at times. Which is annoying. But I did the HP Support Assistant battery check and it said it was fine, and then I did the BIOS battery check and it passed. And then the HP staff member I was chatting with on the support system had the gall to say "4 hours is actually really good". NO, IT IS NOT REALLY GOOD. Similar laptops in this category get about 7 hours of real time use. I bought this computer in large part because of that puported long battery life, and all the reviews said that the battery life was pretty great - none mentioned being four hours. I just bought the Spectre 360 and am having the same overheating issues as above.  One of the main reasons for the purchase was the hyperbaric cooling system so the laptop would not overheat.  This one is so hot to the touch within an hour of turning it on that it burns my leg if I am using it on my lap.  When on a table, the bottom vents are covered but the side vents are not.  This is a laptop, it is not built to carry around a cooling table, it is meant to be portable.  Mine is less than 12 hours old and I feel as though I need to return it too.  Any updates to this issue before I do that? Thanks.

The HP spectre x360 is advertised as having up to 12.5 hours of battery life.    I even asked HP.com Sales Rep and Microsoft Sales reps too since they had a hand in building this and are selling it.     I was so excited when I got it until 4 hours later when it died. I updated Windows, updated all drivers and still got around the same time.  I checked the battery and it was in great health. So I set out to maximize its battery life to get the advertised 12 hours. Yet, after taking absolutely extreme measures to extend its battery life to the fullest, I was ONLY able to get 8 hours of battery life. Here's what I did (My laptop is fully updated latest drivers and everything): Generated a Battery Health Report (everything looked good)Used HP's 'Support Assistant' Battery Check and it came back "OK".Turned on 'Powersave Mode' (this dims the screen even at 100%)Reduced the screen brightness to 70% (which really means %50 in power save mode)Limited my use to just one program (Microsoft Edge) with super minor use of a few  other programs.Disabled Cortana.Disabled One Drive sync.Disabled Desktop Slideshow.Disabled notificationsDisabled desktop "Peek" and all window "snapping" functionality.Disabled all auto startup processes services that I knew to be safe to disable. A:how to know how long battery life remaining in Spectre 360 c...

As we have properly understood your issue you are facing issue in battery chekc up: Make sure you have the latest drivers. Especially graphics driver and BIOS. To do this, make sure Windows Update is fresh, and check HPSA for BIOS updates.Screen brightness has the single biggest impact on battery life. Of course, this is all about personal preference, but a couple clicks down on brightness will often help battery a lot, and might even be a bit more comfortable if you?re using for a long time. The apps you?re using can make a big difference. Playing video with the optimized Xbox Video app will give better battery life than other players. Internet Explorer gives better battery life than Chrome. Always helpful to close things you aren?t using. Things like ads loading on webpages in the background can mess with battery life.nitin singh guleria

I know this question has been asked already but I too need a solution to the HP Spectre x360's very, very poor battery life. I struggle to manage 2 hours on this, with brightness at the max (I need it like that). I've seen other people managing 5-6 hours and thats all I really need. If someone could tell me how they managed to get that, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

A:Spectre X360 battery life issue!

Greetings for the day dqthehoang, Regarding the battery life and battery backup that has been mentioned here, when the unit says battery upto 12hours, on a idle situation the battery life is upto 12hours or when you are using minimal applications, There are certain applications which would use more battery power, check when you are using any particular application if the battery drains, try updating BIOS through HP.com and Try running battery test through HPSA to check the functionality of the battery, Perform battery calibration on a timely manner to keep the battery in good shape. Regards,Zoan  Please click ?Accept as Solution ? if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.Click the ?Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say ?Thanks? for helping!

I have been using this Laptop for more than a year now, and Im really disappointed with the battery life. Before that May-June 2017 Windows 10 update, Im normally getting around 3-4 hours of laptop runtime with minimal to moderate tasks, but now it was reduced to half. I already did the following:1. Battery replaced (original not oem or cheap knock-off)2. Windows 10 Reset3. Control background apps and start-up items.4. Everything was updated, even the Bios. When I complained about it, the service center mentioned something that it has something to do with being connected to a Wifi Network, even without downloading any updates. Kindly refer this to your engineering team. Also, the few minutes upon booting this laptop, the machine is somewhat laggy in terms of response, like asking someone who had just waken-up to do task that requires speed and precision. Lenovo might try to communicate with Microsoft regarding this matter as I believe that the system was not optimized for the succeding updates as of June last year.

Hi! I purchased my laptop around 3 to 4 months ago via my school. Initially, the laptop was able to live up to its claims of a "long battery life" but within 2 months, the battery life had decreased from 10 hours to 2-3 hours. Moreover, the laptop seems to be very laggy, despite the fact that the majority of my files are stored in Dropbox and I rarely have anything more than a few google chrome tabs open (and occasionally a microsoft word document open). Are there ways to solve this? Should I purchase a new battery?

I have had my HP Spectre for a year.  Only on occasion do I use something requiring graphics. Mostly I am using word and power points at the moment.  This past week, all the sudden my computer is overheating and I am only getting about 2 hours of batterylife whereas a few weeks ago I was getting at least 5 hours if not more (sometimes average around 7).  I shut down my computer last night with over 50% of battery life and booted it up today and it had 20%.  And was instantly hot to the point it is hard to do anything on it.   Has anyone experienced this?  The computer is just barely a year old.  My HP computers in the past normally last about 4 years before giving me problems.   I suspect it is because of the recent update to Windows 10 that happened last week that I was forced into, but I can't figure out how to problem shoot that.

Hello, I got my 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop a week ago, and it seems the battery life is very underwhelming. I get around 4 hours from mixed usage (browsing/productivity/media). I had the previous gen. Spectre and almost similar tasks got me 8hr+ battery life. I've tried battery testing/calibration etc. suggested in the support pages. Anyone else having similar problems? I want to give the laptop some chance before I replace/return it.

Just bought the new 4k 13 inch spectre x360. So far it has been great, except that I am getting nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have already researched these forums, and read the tips located here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00596784 - and here (translated from Spanish to English) - http://h30467.www3.hp.com/t5/Consejos-de-Expertos-para-notebooks/Consejos-de-mantenimiento-de-Bater%... - and nothing has helped.  In just 2 hours of up time with the screen set to 50% or less, I reached 20% battery remaining. This was only with web browsing and some office processses such as email and Microsoft Word. Do I have a bad battery, or is the battery life overall just not as good (or even close to) advertised? The laptop is less than 30 days old.

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.
