HDD not compatible?

Q: HDD not compatible?

I bought this HDD: CAVIAR GREEN 2TB 64MB 7200 SAT
It arrived to day, but when I put it in, it couldn't be found in either windows 7 or BIOS. I tried using the cables for my primary HDD, it still couldn't find it. So it's definitely the HDD. Is it possible that my motherboard isn't capable of recognizing/using the device? I got my computer 3 years ago, however I'm not sure the make/model of my motherboard. Or is it just a faulty HDD? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: HDD not compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

Hello all.
Well, having a dell dimension 3000 is not the best thing in the world, but ive decided to upgrade it as good as i can. i will be buying a new graphics card any time soon, and as im not that pro with anything regarding computers i would like to know if anyone could help me put a list of things that i have to look at when im getting this new card. i know that only PCI slot card will work for me, so i have only a couple of choices. the 6200, the x1550/1350, the 9950, the fx5200/5600 and the 9100 graphics cards seem to be compatible with my computer. now, what i dont know is what else do i have to make sure of before i buy the card? for example does it matter if the clock speed of the card is different from my FBS? (too bad i couldnt find my FBS properties anywhere )
what im asking basically is what i need to know for the card to ultimately WORK on my machine, not what the best card for my machine is.
Any help is great
Regards
Kirill

P.S: also, if anyone wants to just tell me which of the cards listed above they would buy, or their own choice for a PCI slot, i would appreciate that too. ( games i want to play w/ better settings : Il2 Sturmovik 1946, flying sims, HoMM5 on full high (probably), The Guild 2, oblivion( not the best settings of course), and other games of 2000-2006. nothing uber-leet-new super demanding.)

A:Compatible or not?

I can tell you that if you want to get some quality gaming done, you will need a motherboard with a PCI-E slot. It's just impossible to get any decent FPS with your PCI slot limitation. I ran a FX5200 in my Dell 3000. It was a little better but I hate to tell you but you must at least have an agp slot and at this stage of the game you would be shopping for a PCI-E slot. I would also get a larger case to build in because the Dell 3000 is so small and you will need room for your machine to breathe and have a chance at cooling. Don't be bummed. Start shopping and do a lot of studying on each part that you might use. In the end you will be happy instead of frustrated.

A:Compatible Ram For My PC???

Yeah, www.crucial.com should have what you need. It uses PC133, not PCI (that is a slot on your motherboard). MSI specifically says this about your ram:
Supports six memory banks using three 168-pin unbuffered DIMM.
• Support a maximum memory size of 1.5GB.
• Support ECC(1-bit Error Code Correct) function.
• Support 3.3v SDRAM DIMM.

More specifically the below:

Looks alright to me, although your motherboard can take faster RAM if you're interested: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129954
It's only 2 more as well

If you want to OC, get the 5000+ Black Edition. It has a smaller nm process than the 6400+ so it will go faster and run cooler. If you don't want to OC and/or don't have any experience in doing it before, go with a regular 6400+. The only difference in the Black Version is the unlocked multiplier which allows you to make it run faster.

I need to burn a data CD in XP so that it will preserve long filenames and extensions when accessed on a Mac. I currently have Roxio Easy CD Creater software installed on my PC, but the last CD I burned did not preserve the long filenames. Any suggestion on how to resolve this? Can this be achieved using drag-and-drop technique instead of using Roxio?

Can anyone offer any suggestion on freeware/shareware that will preserve long filenames when burning a CD? Don't forget that I will be creating the CD in WinXP, but the CD must be readable in both XP and Mac.

Hi All

I'm looking to get some form of network storage that I can use between my PC, Laptop and PS3. I have been looking at Lacie and WD:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128649/rb/0
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/127255

I have heard poor reports about the WD drive though, apparently there's a supscription needed to access the full remote features!

Ideally I would like around 1tb, but 500gig would do for now as long as I can connect additional hard drives (daisy chain) to the NAS box for extra storage/backing up. FTP access would be useful too so I can access my files anywhere.

Have any of you done similar? Can you provide some advice on the best way of doing this?

A:NAS compatible with PS3?

SimpleTech NAS are very stable. WD not a fan of there devices. They just started to sell 1TB units here cheap for $320.

Do you have a router between the PC, laptop and PS3? Not hard to configure the device to the network.

My question today is: Can I upgrade to Windows XP Home Edn? Can I put in a DVD Burner? Can I put in an AV Capture Card? I would like to transfer Analog Video Camera Tapes to DVD including editing etc. Could someone please advise what extra memory, hard drive space, processor speed i would need? Thanks.

A:Compatible?

Can you upgrade to XP Home?
yes, it will most likely run but will seem pretty slow considering the cpu / amount of ram you have.

Can you install a DVD burner ?
Absolutely, should run just fine with what you have.

Can I put in an AV Capture Card?
Most likely yes, but considering the amount of cpu speed/ram you have, I don't think it will function very well. ( I am not up on video capturing etc..)
any converting of video to DVD require lots of cpu / memory ( the more, the merrier)

I can offer many suggestions of what you should get, but I have no idea what budget you're on.

2.5 Ghz or faster
1 gig memory
80 gig + ( the bigger the better )

good luck

Hello all,

I recently bought an extra 1GB of RAM for my computer after buying a new graphics card (nvidia 8600 GT) as I wanted to be able to play more demanding games. The problem started when Warhammer Mark Of Chaos kept freezing, so I thought I'd upgrade. I got the graphics card, got the RAM installed, but the problem still occurred from time to time. Most (not all) computers will let you mix and match RAM of different speeds - however the faster RAM will only run at the speed of the slower RAM - so if you get 400mhz and have 333mhz also in the computer, it will all run at 333mhz.

I have a fairly modest AMD athlon 2000+ xp 1.67Ghz, with winXP pro SP2. I have 256MB ram, 80 GB hard drive, DVDRW 8X, Acer LCD Monitor etc etc
Philips Ultimate Edge 5.1 Sound card and currently a very basic Nvidia Riva TNT2 64pro video card.

I intend on upgrading the video card to start with and perhaps get another 256MB ram.

I am looking at a MSI GeForce FX5700U-TD128 (128 MB) AGP Graphic Card. Would this be compatible with my PC? And would all of the above with this card be enough to run PC games such as Fifa and Pro Evolution Soccer? Even slightly older versions of the game?

A:compatible?

I am assuming that you need an AGP graphics card, since you listed an AGP card as one of your choices.
However, we would need your motherboard info to be sure.

If your motherboard uses an AGP slot, then yes, the MSI FX5700 AGP you saw would be compatible.
The only factor of compatibility in choosing a video card is the interface type (PCI, AGP, PCI-Express).

However, I would recommend that you upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB.
But to be honest, 1GB would be the minimum for any desktop system these days.
You won't get much better performance with a new video card if you don't upgrade your RAM, because with 256MB, your system is barely getting by, even just running day-to-day tasks.

For most people with a computer that still uses AGP, I would recommend the mid-range GeForce 7600GT AGP. This is a respectable mid-range card that would play most games on medium settings, but it would undoubtedly be bottlenecked if installed on your system.
It's hard to find a decent AGP card that won't be bottlenecked by your CPU...

I was looking to upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (128MB) to a higher series (7's or 8's) of the NVIDIA; preferably 256MB-512MB.

Any good deals would be great aswell, but just common knowledge on what I should look for when buying a graphics card would be nice.

Also, any knowledge on what RAM I should buy to be compatible. I assume any DDR2 sticks should do the trick, but I want to make sure before making a purchase.

Thanks alot!

Zach

Frys built my system the specs are : MSI x58 platinum SLI Motherboard, Intel core i7 920 2.66 processor, 6GB RAM, nVidia Geforce GTX260, inside an antec nine hundred case.....

how would i know if this http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/categoryID.13095100/parid.13092500/catid.13094900 is compatable?

I think i currently have 2 HDDs atm, they told me one was for the OS and the other for everything else. this is all a little over my head.

also, is this what you guys would get for a gaming rig?

A:How would I know if this is compatible

It is compatible, but the ease in setting it up will depend on how Frys setup the existing system. Why don't you just ask them. They should have no problem in telling you what you want to know. They may think you are going to buy the drive at Frys... no need to tell them, unless they ask.

I just got 2 2gb sticks of Balistix Crucial. Can I still fill my last two dimm slots with my old RAM? 2 1gb sticks of OCZ. They are both 800mhz pc6400. The crucial RAM has CL-4-4-4-12. The ocz RAM is 4-5-5. My mobo guide says to use the RAM with the same CAS Latenc. Which number is the CAS Latency? My bios says its the first number, the 4. So far no problems with this setup but ive only had it for an hour or two.

A:Compatible RAM?

You need to check the maximum amount of RAM supported by your motherboard.

And yes, the first number in the timings is the CAS latency.

*Note: For the CPU, I know the Extreme is better than the Core 2 Quad but I'm not spending 1K on a processor.
- Also, I'm especially unsure of what motherboard to get that is the best.

Hi, so i have a Pavilion p7-1010a Desktop PC and i bought a GPU recently and had trouble making it work. The GPU isMSI GTX 750 TI. You can find all the info about it from this website https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/N750-Ti-2GD5OC.html#hero-overview. Problem:When i put the graphics card in and booted the computer up, it got stuck on the boot up screen saying "Press ESC key for startup menu" however no matter what i pressed nothing happened, and then after around a minute or two, it proceeded into a black screen sort of like a CMD but in fullscreen, and nothing happens after that.I have done lots of googling and tried different methods to get the GPU to work, such as taking cmos batter off and putting it back in, buying a new power supply, disabling the integrated graphics, messing with the rams, updating bios from 7.13 to 7.16 and possibly more that i forgot about. There were also methods that i could not do because my bios menu does not have much options. None of these made the slightest difference.I have recorded a video of it to demonstrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=camVAA4HagE Question:  I saw on somewhere ( forgot where ) that my bios needs to be UEFI for the GPU to work, is this true? my bios says legacy. What do you recommend? Any help is appreciated thank you. Information: My OS is windows 10 64-bit.My power supply i believe used to be 300w , so i bought a new one that is better. My new & current power suppl... Read more

So i have a noob question, but im getting quite confused looking at PSU's for my Asus P5Q PRO motherboard.

The manual says it needs a 24 pin main connector and an 8 pin 12v cpu connector.

The pictures on newegg for the PSU's usually just show a picture of the main connector and the cpu power but it just shows a 4 pin, but under "features" it will say either say "1 x 12V(4/8Pin)" or "1 x 12V(P4)" and "1 x 12V(8Pin)" below it.

Do all ATX12V / EPS12V PSUs come with an 8 pin 12v connector or what?

Also when it tells how many rails it has whether it be single or 3 or whatever, what does that mean. I'd like to make sure i get a PSU thats compatable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

This one is selling in a combo deal with your motherboard
Combo deal for reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.141834
Power Supply on its own: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182069

Note: normally I don't support reply on what to buy, but just found this on a quick search on your motherboard specs

Ok doing a new build. I'm still pretty new at this stuff. Can you give me comments on the pieces I have picked out?

HDD (Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ) $49.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075

MoBo (GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard) $84.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128014

CPU (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor) $57.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103774

RAM (G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory) $46.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

and I'll be running Win XP Home SP2

I'm trying to keep the price as close to $400 as possible, the computer will be used primarily for general internet surfing and office work, no hardcore games. Here's what I know I want for the computer, I need at least one firewire port, and several USB ports, and a graphics card that will handle webcam adequately. Also PC should be able to be upgraded to Vista with no additional hardware upgrades, and am looking for a PC that will last for several years, with upgrading RAM and CPU etc...

I still need a Case, PSU and a graphics card, since the MoBo doesn't have onboard graphics.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
