Display Issue or Monitor Issue

Q: Display Issue or Monitor Issue

Some information remains hidden until I pass the cursor over it. For example, if I bring up a contact on my Google contacts, the buttons to change information does not show until the cursor passes over its precise location. This is a pretty new monitor, been using it for half a year now and bought it new. Has been working fine until this started to happen. I don't know if its a update issue, settings issue, or the physical monitor itself.

Running Windows 7 and have a LG Electronics UM95 34UM95 34-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor.

I have tried resetting Windows Explorer, resetting monitor settings to its default settings, turned the monitor off and restarted the computer then turned the monitor back on but there is no change. Not really sure what to do.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yes I'm using a compaq mv540 monitor (yes its old) ona windows 2000pro OS with a nvidia tnt2 32meg graphics card..
and i took my eyes off it for about 10 seconds i turned back and I honestly cant describe it.. all the colors bleed to the right of the screen none of the menu buttons on the monitor mount work either. Instead they change the screen to yellow or blue or lower the brightness extremely low to where it looks normal.. but you can barely see anything.. (note: menu buttons do not bring up monitors usual menu) and routinly it switches between the many faces.. I took some screenies but since the monitor is displaying these bizzard colors the pics only display the bleeding effect. Anyone witnessed this before?

Solutions i've tried:
Uninstalling all display drivers and reinstalled
Attempted updating all display drivers
Safe mode boot
Last good known config boot
Dxdiag (all checks out fine -_-)

I have had a HPL2245w monitor for a number of years. Now the display has faint/transparent horizontal lines, continously scrolling on my display. They are visible on a white background. On dark/black background they are not noticeable.  I recently changed the pc to on-board graphics. I checked the monitor drivers and it says they are updated. I checked resolution and refresh rates and they are those required by the monitor. I tried to change the power cable, and also to move it to a different power source. I also restored the monitor to factory settings. But those faint scrolling lines are still there.  I'd like to know if this could be a sign that the monitor is "breaking", or whether there are solutions to this. Or could it be that I've downgraded from a dedicated graphics card to on-board graphics? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey. You guys/gals have been great in helping me in the past with software and security issues. Now I am moving on to Hardware.

The problem lies with my Monitor/the power to my monitor. The computer seems to have all appropriate lights lit (ie. CPU, external modem, USB hubs, wireless hub) yet the monitor won't display. When turned on (the Monitor) the light turns green then you hear a slight click and the light goes to yellow and will not display. I brought my monitor home from work and it did not work either. I just got the yellow light.

Some suggested that it was the power supply inside the tower.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS T450 with Dell CRT. (yes approx. 5 years old)

If any one has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks a million.

My girlfriend's monitor has, for some time now, acted strangely. The pointer stops (as it should) when flush with the left side of the screen, but on the right, it can go over another, say, six inches (off screen). Thus, often you loose sight of the pointer as it's somehwere in the void of the right side. I have tried other pcs on that monitor and they were fine, so I know it's that particular pc (or, more specifically, that vid card), but I don't know how to fix it. I have tried to adjust the display size, but, upon making it smaller, the black background appears on the right just as on the left, so they seem to be the same size in relation to the edges of the monitor.
Thanks in advance for any help here.

I currently have 2 monitors (on an Asus and the other an Acer) they are both 22in monitors and have 1920x1080 display. I have been attempting to use a dual monitor sized background image but my Acer monitor isnt displaying the image as full screen like it should. The image I am using for my background is 3840x1080 so I would think it would be full screen on both monitors. I tried manually adjust the display of the monitor vertically via the monitor's internal menu but the option to move it is not selectable and acer tech-support was unable to pin-point the problem. I have attached a picture so you can see exactly what I see. (Its the left side monitor that is the issue) (Note** The black bars that are in the picture [on the bottom on the right side and on the top on left] I dont actually see on my monitors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

posted on behalf of my sister who is currently not online (excuse the second hand info, I haven't actually seen the issue with my own eyes...)

she is running a packard bell PC with Win ME.

the picture is squashed into about 50% of the area of the screen, it is centered horizontally and runs 100% top to bottom (i.e. there is no picture on the left 1/4 or right 1/4 of the screen.

the picture is squashed but not linearly. At the left/right edges it is nearly normal, towards the center it is increasingly squashed as though the middle of the screen has been folded and extends backwards behind the monitor.

- the monitor displays fine when connected to another PC
- this happens from the moment she boots (even before windows starts)
- by moving the window around she is able to see enough to open the display properties and change the resolution - this makes no difference.

Any advice much appreciated. Thx,

A:Monitor distorted display issue

This query should include her system specs. Monitor name and type and video card name and type at the very least. Just to work with what info you have provided I would suggest that you/she perhaps ensure video card drivers are installed corrected and are up to date. If there has been a video card update, were the old device and it's drivers removed? Second I would check the connections on the cable and the back of the PC where the cable connects. If the monitor works ok on another PC are you using the same cable on the other PC? If so that probably means the cable is ok and you should look closely at the connection the PC where the problem appears.

I previously had dual monitors and one of them burned out. I am trying to replace that monitor with one we had sitting around in the office not being used. I connected it and triple checked that everything is plugged in right, but the computer is not detecting it. I have gone through all the display devices to update drivers but, again, the monitor is not being detected. I have also tried to follow the steps here but in the setting tab I dont have the drop down menu to select multiple monitors. It's as if the monitor is not plugged in to the computer at all. The monitor has power and currently displays "Dell 2: Digital Input Self Test Feature Check; Red Green Blue White"

Do I have to install monitor software or something?

Thanks for the help!

I have a question in regards to my dual monitor system. No one seems to be able to get the fix for this. I can tell you that it worked fine forever and then one day it just does not work properly. Using my computer with Extened Display Windows 7 works fine. Computer Goes to Sleep hit the space bar or move the mouse and it wakes up with the same view which is correct. Main Monitor on the Left and Extened Display on the Right. So No Probelm. I switch over to another computer with my IOGEAR KVM Switch which is Dual View work on another computer Dual View. No Problems. Here is where the Issue comes in. When I switch back to the other computer it comes up but the main monitor on the left is now Blank like its powered off and my desktop is now on the monitor on the right. I goto the display options under resolution and hit the detect button. It now moves my desktop from the right monitor to thte left primary monitor and all is well. So for some time this just becomes annoying that I have to do this everytime I want to switch back over. It does not do it on any other computer and I have tried everything. Remember it used to work.
Here is what I have done so far to rule out the hardware. Bios is set up correctly. Replaced Video Card. Latest Driver has been installed etc. I returned my KVM Switch 3 times to be sure it was not that and it is not. Why do I have to keep hitting the Detect button in order to get it back to where it needs to be on this one computer. Please Help. My name i... Read more

I have an ASUS MB168B USB 3 monitor, works fine in Windows 8.1 with the ASUS EZlink software. After upgrading to Windows 10 10122 x64 I got Visual C++ debug errors and had to un install it. Windows 10 sets its resolution to 1024 x 768 and won't let me change it. If I try to set it to 1366 x768 I get a Settings could not be saved try a different resolution message. It doesn't matter what resolution I chose, I get the same message. This monitor will not display if not set to 1366 x768, all I get is a black screen. I uninstalled display link and installed the V7.8 Beta 1 for Windows 10 from their site but same deal. If nobody has any ideas I'll be going back to Windows 8.1.

My sager laptop is 1920x1080 resolution. My external monitor is 1920x1200 resolution. I use my external monitor as my main display. Basically i connected my laptop to external monitor and also use external keyboard connected to my laptop. The laptop is to my left while i stare at the monitor.

So when i have tabs up or any problem, i would drag it to the left side and thus its now on my 2nd monitor... the laptop monitor. I did something wrong with the setting where in order for me to move a window to my 2nd monitor... the laptop monitor, i have to move it to the right side of my external monitor screen. Can someone tell me how to fix it? i assume it has to do with 1 and 2 the number of the monitor in the settings?

I have settings graphic options, output to extended desktop digital tv built in display. Is that right or wrong? I assume this has to do with that or the 1 and 2?

all you need do is:
at the setup window, where you see the numbers on the monitors and set resolution
grab the monitor, no matter which one indeed :-) , and drag it to the other side
you can even place it above or below, according to the real positions

Today I opened up my laptop and noticed that there was a contrast on my monitor that persisted through all of my programs. I tried some simple troubleshooting techniques, but nothing seemed to fix this problem. I also couldn't find any solutions online. My warranty ran out last September, so I don't think I'll be able to send in my laptop for repairs. I'm hoping there might be some sort of software fix to this issue, so nobody had to go fiddling around inside the actual hardware to fix this. The only other options I can see are to send my computer in to a local repair shop, or just wait and hope the problem fixes itself. My computer isn't totally unusable, but it is highly annoying and constantly visually distracting. Hopefully someone on here can provide any insight on how to fix this problem.

This is to start where an old thread left off. I am having exactly the same problem with this monitor. So am also very interested in finding a solution.

When plugging in a signal (all input ports with same result, hdmi, DVI, VGA, etc with the same results,)

-The light goes from red to blue, (indicating its receiving the signal).
-The perfect expected image flashes up on the screen for a second.
-The screen goes blank, with the blue light still on.
-The OSD menus do not display either. Those should not require a signal from a computer to work. Confirmed on working unit.

I have a second of these monitors purchased at the same time it still works.

Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Hyundai W240D monitor display issue

I got exactly the same problem as described here and in the previous thread about this (now closed, but without a definitive answer).

My Hyundai W240D V2 screen is a little over 4 years old. I got the problem first one week ago, then the screen came back to life after some tinkering (powering it on and off mostly), but now it looks like it won't. I'm thinking some part is not handling aging very well, but which one, and can it be replaced easily ?

Any help on this would be great, this screen was quite good!

Ok, first off, I'm new here so hi everyone. Seems like a great forum for technical help and discussion, and looks pretty

I've googled, and searched this forum for a fix to my problem but haven't found one so far, so hopfully you guys can help.

A few months ago I got a second hand monitor from a friend, to replace my CRT because I was getting headaches when working. It was cheap (?10) because it's fairly outdated and had a dead pixel, but it was worth it to get rid of the headaches. At the time I was running Vista x86 and I plugged the monitor in and its maximum selectable resolution was only 1024x768, rather than the 1280x1024 that it was meant to be. I couldn't find a fix for this, but managed to work around this by updating the drivers and selecting the "Generic 1280x1024 Flat Screen" in the list of drivers in Vista. This brought the correct resolutions to the list and the issue was solved.

I then had the same issue in Windows XP (x86) and used the same work around, which again fixed the issues. However last week I done an upgrade and purchased Vista x64 and am having the same issue once again. But this time, selecting the drivers in the list does not update the resolutions I can select and I am stuck with 1024x768, which isn't a good enough resolution for the 3D Modeling and Texture working I am trying to do. Deselecting the tick box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" simply updates the refresh rate box, but not the resolution box oddl... Read more

One day I was using the laptop surfing the net normally, everything was fine and suddenly the display gone wrong...(pic below). I tried using an external monitor and still the same, so I am quite sure that my monitor is fine and it's probably a display card problem?
I tried to update my display card driver and no luck, so I decided to use the recovery CD to restore the system, and no luck again.

Here is a screenshot after the system restore...is there a way to repair this without taking it to a service centre??

A:Tecra S1 - Display issue, even on external monitor

Hi borist,

It?s really great that you could post a picture of your problem. Thank you!
Furthermore you tried already a lot of like recovery installation and an external monitor.

Unfortunately it seems to be a hardware malfunction of graphic card. :(

So that means you have to exchange the mainboard because the graphic card is fixed on it. Mainboard is pretty expensive part and Tecra S1 is old notebook so maybe you can get a second hand mainboard or notebook on eBay and exchange it yourself.

Good luck! :)

Well here goes the best explanation to my problem:

Home-built computer
Motherboard ripped from Compaq Presario
Intel Celeron 2.80 GHZ
1 gig RAM
Radeon 9200 Pro
(I can get more specs if needed once I download Belarc Advisor)

I recently purchased a new Dell 20" monitor, upgrading from my POS. Everything worked great for about 3 weeks, then one day the screen started to go scrambled, seemingly-randomly. When a restart did not fix the issue, I hooked my old monitor back up. With the old monitor it didn't scramble, but instead kept flickering to black as if it was attempting to adjust the resolution or something. It would show the screen for random spurts and flicker to black in between. Sometimes it would happen as soon as I started the computer, and other times it would take 5-10 minutes or so. The flickering happens in both bootup screens and in Windows screens. I then removed the video card and tried both monitors directly through the integrated graphics on the motherboard, to no avail. Getting desperate, I deleted the drivers for the graphics card and went through the motherboard again.

On to System Recovery... Attempted system recovery using the option that came with the Compaq (where some components for this computer came from). First tried non-destructive, which doesn't delete user files and information and such. Everything seemed to be going good until I hooked up the Dell monitor, and again there were issues. However, the new monitor works fine on my o... Read more

I was running Windows 7 and everything worked well, I could extent and duplicate monitors.  I use my laptop monitor as monitor #1 and my VGA port with an external VGA Monitor as Monitor #2 and I always extend my monitor. After the upgrade to Windows 10 I get a duplication of Screen #1 on both monitors. I watched numourous videos that show how to extent the monitor but I never get the ability to choose the monitors.  I only get one option, Monitor #1.  Seems like my VGA port is just duplicating everything my laptop screen is projecting. I diverted back to Windows 7 because this option is really important to my work and it works flawlessly.  Going back to Windows 10 and it just still shows the duplication of the laptop screen.

I have an Hp Pavilion desktop and had to buy a new monitor. I bought a emachines 17f3.

The problem is that I have light bands of grey running horizontally across the monitor. For example, when viewing a web page with a white background, everywhere there is a graphic or line of text, there is a light band of grey running horizontally across the screen.

I contacted emachines and they had me connect the monitor to my laptop and there were no grey horizontal bands. Emachines said I would need to contact HP and suggested it was a problem with the video card configuration or the display settings.

Since the desktop is no longer under warranty, HP will not address the problem.

Any help concerning how to correctly adjust setting would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if I can get some help?

I've got a few issues with my laptop. Main one is that the laptop monitor didn't work so I had to connect through the VGA to my telly ......... but recently it's been temperamental when I start up, it shows the acer main screen, then the windows logo, then when the computer logs into windows the telly goes onto stand by. Now, I was restarting a few times in safe and vga modes and it comes on the telly ok but any adjustment on the properties and it again goes into stand by.

However ... I caught sight of the laptop in a different angle/light and noticed that the screen on the laptop actually does work, well kind of, it's really really dark and I can make out some menus and icons depending on which angle I move it to.

My questions are:

1. I've tried adjusting the brightness with the fn buttons and in the monitor part of the display settings but unfortunately I can't get it any lighter, is there somewhere else I can adjust brightness to bring the screen back to normal? It feels like I'm viewing it through dark sun glasses when I can see it or that the screen has a really dark tint to it

2. Would a fresh installation of xp revive my laptop or would it make no difference?

3. Obviously if there is a way to get the monitor on the laptop working again then this question isn't needed but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong when trying to hook the laptop to the telly via the vga ... Read more

A:Acer aspire 1691 display/monitor issue

If you can still make out the desktop, then it sounds like the backlight has failed. So a hardware replacement is in order.

As for the issue with the TV, it could simply be a resolution issue. Ensure you are using a resolution and refresh rate that the TV accepts. TV's with VGA input, often have very limited acceptable resolutions. Check the User Manual.

A better test, would be to simply connect the laptop to a true computer monitor and see what happens.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

Hey guys,
I am having two issues with my laptop.
1.  When my laptop is running on battery (no matter which power option I choose) the screen will go black or flicker if I stop moving my mouse.  The moment I move it goes back to being fine but if I let go it flickers.
2.  When I put my computer to sleep and then turn it back on later, the wireless card just stops working.  I get a red x on the wifi icon in my toolbar and it will not show any networks, even if I  Disable/Re-enable the wireless card.
I have already deleted the graphic card drivers and wireless drivers and reinstalled. My laptop is has a dedicated graphic card but it also uses the onboard graphic card.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I have external VGA display 1920x1080, in Win10 it is set as primary display. Both Intel and Radeon video adapters are enabled. Most of Win10 "modern" aka "metro" apps (Mail, Store) fail to render correctly when their window is bigger than the built-in LCD (1366x768).At least it looks like this. When I resize these apps more than certain size, the added area does not render and stays transparent or filled by background color.Moving the window around, further resize does not help. This behaviour started in version 1708 and still continues after 1803 update.   Please advice how to fix this. Hey, I recently put together a PC and I've been having problems with it since. When I initially built it, the specs were:

i7 920 2.67GHz
Asus p6t Motherboard
8gb RAM
500gb Sata II HD
ATI Radeon HD 3870x2 (the card with with 2 GPU's)
500W unbranded PSU
1 added 120m coolermaster fan

Shortly after I started using my PC there was a power surge that knocked the power supply out. I recently got a new power supply. A 650W Silverstone PSU that I thought was more than enough for this. The problem that would occur now is that the computer would restart during games and sometimes while processing/rendering videos in adobe premiere.

When I would enable the 'crossfire' option on my card (to enable both GPU's to work) the computer would no longer just 'restart' the entire screen would hang or the colours would go out of sync shortly after which I'd have to restart the computer. This having happened I assumed the problem was with the graphics card, not the new 650W silverstone I got. I upgraded to a newer card; Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX460 768mb. The specs are now as follows:

i7 920 2.67GHz
Asus p6t Motherboard
8gb RAM
500gb Sata II HD
Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX460 768mb

A:PC restart during graphic-intensive tasks. PSU issue? GPU issue? Mobo issue?

You've got Asus motherboard, hence the first thing I'll look at considering the issues you are having, is at RAM settings/voltage in the board's BIOS, these should be exactly the same as on RAM packaging, but even that doesn't guarantee that it may not be the issue, so basically you'll need to fiddle around a bit with settings/voltage in case default specs doesn't work.

You may also consider stress testing your graphic card using OCCT (including vRam). Regards

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

Here is my problem. I have a primary monitor and then I run S-Video out to the TV so I can watch video clips.

With Vista, I had no trouble starting a video clip in media player on the primary screen and then dragging it over to the second monitor (TV) for actual viewing.
However, I tried to do that with Windows 7-it won't let me drag Media Player over to the second monitor. I can drag other applications to the second Window (Word, Browsers), but not any media program. Even tried another media player application.

Not sure what to do-how can I get this to work? I want to be able to watch TV/Movies on my second monitor.

A:Dual Monitor Issue-Can't drag MedPlay to Second Monitor

Actually update. I have a hard time dragging anything to my second display. I never had trouble dragging things to my second monitor before. When I get to the right edge of my main display, the window dragging stops..I can't get it to the second monitor. What am I doing wrong?

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.

I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.

In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.

When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.

I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"

I have two monitors, both work fine as standalones but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.

Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

Try updating your card drivers. Go into Device Manager and right-click on your display adapter.

I suspect that the cards are too old, though. We will see.

I have the dual monitor thing working and everything. I have my laptop and attached it using HDMI to a HDTV. The problem is that i cant get my desktop to my laptop. The HDMI cable, when plugged into my laptop makes the TV display the desktop automatically. Because of this, when i enable the dual screen, it extends my desktop to my laptop screen, and uses my tv for the main monitor. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I got laptop which is a total mess right now. Its LCD is shattered to pieces (owner stepped on it)

Anyways, rather then have the screen fixed they want it setup so that they can use it with an external monitor. This is harder then it seems though.

When I boot up vista normally, it goes to LCD only (no external).
Safe mode, I can see on both screens

How to I allows a regular boot using vista to display an output on both/external only?

Its an Acer laptop (cant remember the model #)

Just recently my laptops display has been freezing and getting slightly pixelated. Then the pixels slowly start turning white from the outside inward. I found that is i pressed hard on the keyboard it would stop and everything will go back to normal for awhile, but now its just started happening more frequently. Any info on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

A:Odd Display Issue

Sounds like a bad connection on the laptop motherboard to lcd connector - sadly that is internal and involves some disassembly.

Recently completed an upgrade from Win 7 to 8, which was generally successful, except my desktop displays appear to be 8-bit color and extremely flat looking. My video card is ATI Radeon HD 5670 with resolution set to 1,920 X 1,080. Cataylist Control Center shows 1080P with 60hz. Color quality set to High 32-bit. Have gone through the Personalization setting several times to identify the problem with no luck. Should mention that some applications with their own display functions, i.e. videos, etc. are using the high bitrate. But anything that relies on Windows for display (Firefox, Thurnderbird come to mind) are flat, while the Metro screen and its subsets look appropriate until I launch an application. Where did I go astray? TIA

A:Display issue

I've not experienced your problem before, so I may be waaaaay off the mark.

I wonder if the programs you're having problems with are colour managed programs and are using a corrupt ICC monitor profile? You can temporarily disable the monitor ICM profile in Control Panel > Colour Management to see if it still happens (Windows Photo Gallery is a good reference program as it's colour managed), but as I may be way, way off the mark, I'd wait to see if anyone else comes along with a better solution before you start messing with the colour profiles.

Still, it could be something to try if you run out of ideas and hit a dead end.

My current display is set at 1024 x 768 and is hard to use. It's supposed to be at 2048 x 1536. I have tried several times to reset it using the Win10 settings, but it hasn't worked. If fact, it's getting worse. I can't log in to my home page because the login is no longer on the screen. I have tried a restart, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I have a Dell XPS m1210, it is approximately 4 years old and running Vista. I recently, occaonally would connect an external display, (a 32" flat screen television), to my laptop. Now, the display on the laptop goes black when it is restarted. The startup 'sounds' play so I know that it starts and the machine will start in 'safe' mode and displays fine. I have double checked the settings, (while connected to an external display), and all settings are set for the single display and for the laptop display to be the 'main' display. System restore did nothing nor did
last good configuration.

Anyone have any ideas?
