Solved: Creating SubDomain - Apache HTTP

Q: Solved: Creating SubDomain - Apache HTTP

Hi,
Can someone tell me how to make a subdomain in apache. I need to make subdomain.mydomain.com go to 'C:/www/subdomain'. I think I have to use Virtual Host, except when I do this it also affects the main domain (mydomain.com documents root goes to c:/www/subdomain, instead of c:/www.) I think I have to make an A record on my DNS server, except what do I have to add to my conf file?

I only have one IP (i think that matters)

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, now that my ftp is up and kickass i have moved onto my second project, a message board, and since i cant find a free one on the internet: unveil the HTTP! Unfortunately, im stupid and i cant figure out how to work this (#*% thing! I know its working, cause it brings up the defualt page when i connect, but i cant figure out how to put stuff on it! FTP was easy, i just put my files in the dir, but with this i cant figure out how to post html files, etc. Anyone with knowledge on the matter, this is where you belong!

A:Apache Http

I can tell you where to put the .html files, but I can't tell you how to write them, because I am not a programmer, nor do I want to be.

Go into your apache folder > htdocs > put .html files in here.

If you want to you can add folders so you will have something like:

If you add folder "files" the url would be http://whatever-your-url-is.com/files

Always remember, the index.html file is the default file that loads if you don't specify another name.

Did this answer your question? I can be a little more clear, regarding setting up your webserver, just not about how to make the message board (which you can find online).

Hi - I am trying to configure Apache on W7 machine, Please help in fixing a configuration issue.

- IIS is not installed in my system and Port 80 is free before installing Apache
- I installed Apache in "D:\Apache" and installation suceeded
- Apache startes and running fine. Now Port 80 is in use by httpd.exe
- http://localhost on IE shows Apache Index page which means Apache installation is proper and Apache is running fine
- I have configured my router for Port Forwarding to forward HTTP calls to local machine (192.168.1.2:80)
- Now while I am trying to access my Apache server page through Internet from another machine , page is not loading.
- Diagnostics shows that - website() is online but isn't responsding to connection attaempts
- I have tried disabling Firewall, adding Inbound/Outbound rules to ensure that port 80 is not locked.
- No anti virus.

- After this I tried installing ISS on this mahcine and configured everything. again http://localhost shows IIS page but when I am trying to aceess it through internet no response.

-> I did follow the same configuration steps on a System with VISTA and it works fine. I am able to view the web page through internet from any PC. But same software installed by following same procedure is not working on Windows7.

Please help me in resolving this issue.

Hi Guys,

I have a new computer d975xbx2 M/board with 8 gig ram and windows vista 64 bit installed.

I attached it to my netgear WGT624 v2 router along with my 2 XP "old" computers.

Everything was working fine, however the internet seemed to get sluggish after 5 or 6 hours or so, when I would unplug and replug the router and off we go again.

Fed up with this, I thought it must be the router so I rang netgear who told me to upgrade the firmware, which I did.

Then then problems began.

If I tried to open internet explorer, it would instantly not find a webpage and upon closing the browser, the box "internet explorer has stopped working" appears every time. The same when you open and close Windows media player, mailwasher, eudora etc.

When you open windows media player you can play songs but when closing the error box appears "windows media player has stopped working" etc. When you open Eudora or mailwasher it appears to "not find a socket" or "error getting network socket"(whatever that means). When closing the program up comes "eudora has stopped working etc".

So.... I gave up and did clean install of windows. Had a bit of trouble reinstalling everything as I know 'jack' about vista, let alone 64 bit systems (don't know why the guy sold it to me in the first place).

But anyway, got up and running with no more error boxes, that is until a week later I get "Apache http server has stopped ... Read more

I have PHP installed running with apache, I did it manually which I prefer because I can then create virtual hosts.

I have http://lostseed, http://jream, and http://velocity

I am having a very hard time getting MySQL to work.
All I want to do is have a MySQL database for each of these Virtual Hosts.
It doesnt matter If I use PHPmyAdmin or anything, I still cant get that to work
either

Ive read manuals and things and I cant figure out what Im doing wrong.

My virtual hosts are setup in system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Code:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 jream
127.0.0.1 lostseed
127.0.0.1 velocitytools
127.0.0.1 test
To set those up I have this in my httpd.conf file for each one:

Code:
#For jream:
NameVirtualHost jream

<VirtualHost jream>
DocumentRoot d:\jream
ServerName jream
</VirtualHost>

<Directory "d:\jream">
Options all
AllowOverride all
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
is there an easier way to do this? I tried using WAMP with aliases but
it does not show the css or image files when running because everything
is linked /css/ and /images/ -- if you click a link in the aliased directory
it would go http://css/, its stupid

please help Im going nuts

A:Apache HTTP Server Works w/PHP, how to work MySQL?

You should really use an IP address or Wildcard for the NameVirtualHost

You need to setup a VirtualHost Entry for each website and the Directory Directive needs to be inside the VirtualHost Directive.

Try not to start multiple threads with the same problem. Try and keep it all in one thread.

Hey, not quite sure how to explain this,
but if im supporting one of my friends computers via RDP using his ip 81.x.x.x, i have to check my email each time because i can't remember it...

I have a Windows 2003 Server linked to my domain, domain.com.

is there a way i can put, something like john.domain.com into RDP and it will recognise that as 81.x.x.x?

I thought of using DNS to create a record but not sure which i need/should use?

Does anybody understand what i'm looking for, and even better know how to do it?

Would be great if you could!!

Hi, newbie question here... (I posted this in the Other Software forum, but it might be better suited for here... apologies for posting again, but I didn't kno how to move the message)...

I downloaded an Apache/MySQL/PHP package to develop some PHP, but for some reason, I can't pass any arguments via GET to my php pages. I try to access the variables I'm sending with $_GET["soandso"], but I'm getting nothing; $_GET is an empty array. If I upload my pages to another site, it works properly, so I must have something configured wrong on my server. How to turn this on? Thanks.

Hi. I have had this problem for many months now and have tried to remove the infection manually using instructions found on ehow, using Norton Antivirus, malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy. Nothing has been successful at removing it. I have just been using my laptop instead of my desktop because I don't want to use an infected computer. The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. I receive notifications from Norton that an intrusion attempt has been blocked. When I go into the log, I found that there were three high risk log entries, one for HTTP Tide Serv Request2, one for HTTP CrimePack Activity 1, and one for HTTP Nukesploit Request. As I mentioned this has been going on for months now. At the beginning it was mostly just HTTP Tide Serv Request2, the other two are new today. I'm hoping you can help me, otherwise I'm going to have to reinstall Windows, which I'd like to avoid doing. I hope I have included enough background. My scans are below and attached. Dear Friends,

A good friend of mine uses Apache Open Office 4 for typing text documents and letters and I am trying to help her adjust the margins but am having problems. The margins by default are set to 2 c.m. and I have been trying to reset these to 1 c.m.

I went to Format / Page / Page Tab. On a blank page I then adjusted the four margins to 1 c.m. and then clicked on O.K. This then carried out the necessary adjustment, however after typing the text and wishing to close the programme down a box appeared saying"Document had been modified". I tried all three alternatives (Save - Discard - Cancel).

The problem I encountered was that when opening the programme next time the Margins had gone back to 2.c.m. and I could not find any method of making the default stay at 1.c.m. This is quite frustrating as you have to manually make the adjustment each time you wish to type a document.

I wonder please whether any kind person could offer a solution.

Thanl you for reading this.

Although many important settings can be changed in the Options dialog Setting up and Customizing Calc, for example default fonts and page size, more advanced settings (such as page margins) can only be changed by replacing the default template with a new one.

I'm trying to install Apache server (2.0.40) on my linux machine at home on my local network. (note this is my first try at installing apache)

I have extracted the installation files for apache and have ran the installation.

everything finished
it told me to look through httpd.conf

so i did. I compared my new httpd.conf file to another httpd file that is known to work.

the other file was from the previous version of apache.

I changed my new httpd.conf file to match some of the settings in the old httpd.
The error i get when i try to run apachectl is this:

"error while loading shared libraries: libdb-3.3.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory"

I'm assuming that this is because of a setting I had changed and it is looking for something that i do not yet have installed.

can anyone give me some ideas as to what this is?

Thanks for the help

Hiya

New to Linux, but gonna give it a shot this weekend.

Anyway, as for your question, try this that was posted in the newsgroups:

Obviously Apache has found and been linked against db3 at compile time but the library isn't in your library search path. Just locate the library on your system, add its path to your ld.so.conf and execute ldconfig. If some part of Apache needed it and it didn't exist you wouldn't have succeeded compiling it

If I disable "search from address bar" in IE9, attempting to visit http://uncg.edu results in a 404 error. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, however, works fine. I can omit the subdomain from some websites (such as http://sevenforums.com), but others simply won't allow me to. Also, http://uncg.edu simply opens a search engine if I have "search from address bar" enabled.

A:Any way to force IE9 to assume a subdomain?

I think that it depends on what data is stored by DNS servers for that address. This in turn depends on the information provided to them by webmasters. Perhaps John (z3r010) might be the one to ask here, as all 3 of his sites exhibit this behaviour.

Hi guys!

I have question regarding when to use subdomain and when to use A record under main domain?

e.g. I have main domain ABCD.com. I want to create record EFGH.ABCD.com that points to IP address 1.2.3.4. From my point of view I have to options:

1) Create host A record under main domain ABCD.com that points to the IP address 1.2.3.4 - host (A) record EFGH.ABCD.com=>1.2.3.4

2) Create EFGH as subdomain of main domain ABCD.com and then under that subdomain create host A record (without Name field) that points to IP address 1.2.3.4

If I create EFGH record as subdomain of main domain ABCD.com I can have separate MX, NS, SOA... records but if I create my record as host A record under main domain then MX, NS, SOA records from main domain are used.

The question is when to use records as host A records and when to use it as subdomain of a main domain?

Thanks!

There are some Japanese flash game websites on a domain called web.fc2.com. I can access some but not others, getting a timeout error.

I can't get to ancho.web.fc2.com and detarou.web.fc2.com . I can get to pi3141592c147.web.fc2.com and yoinouchi.web.fc2.com . I've pinged all four and get very similar results - I know 'similar' is not 'exact' but I am not techy enough to read/understand ping results.

A possibly relevant pair of messages I get from pinging via dnsstuff.com are
- The destination appears to block unwanted UDP packets.
- There appears to be a firewall at <ip address> (hop 1) that blocks unwanted TCP packets.

Both my windows xp and my ubuntu box have the same problem, so it's not a hosts file issue or a system based blocking software. Might be my router?

Thank you...

Thank you...Click to expand...

Might I ask what browser you are using? Using my Google Chrome, I can access http://ancho.web.fc2.com/ & http://yoinouchi.web.fc2.com/

I'm at the "manage dns settings" at network solutions and I see where I can create a subdomain, but it requires that a subdomain point to a numeric IP... I would like my subdomain "lostandfound.mervisdiamond.com" to point to "mervisdiamond.com/found" What numeric IP should I use in this case? Clearly I can't use the generic IP for the site.

Alternatively, I have no problem with the entire Lost and Found actually hosted at the subdomain. In this case how can I move the directory of code to the subdomain, and not in the folder mervisdiamond.com/found

This is my first time posting here and I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I've set up a web server on my machine, and I'm trying to get it to be accessible through the Internet. I set up a static IP; it works perfectly. Then, no matter how what I did in my router's (D-Link DI-624 on Windows XP SP2, no software firewalls) config, I still couldn't get through. I even turned off the firewall completely for my computer via the DMZ option: still nothing! I'm completely stumped. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? Thanks for the help.

Hi...if I've put this topic in the wrong place, please tell me and I'll shut it down and open a new one in the appropriate place.

Anyway, I know this particular error was my own fault and not a virus or anything, but I could use a hand fixing it.

I downloaded a couple of new extensions for Apache Open Office I wanted (good part).

(bad part): Stupidly hit "install extension" directly to the .zip files, without unzipping them first. Naturally, Open Office now says I have two versions of the same extension...the properly working, unzipped one I want and the original goof-up of mine.

Except hitting "Remove" for the bad one does nothing. Neither does uninstalling the good one and reinstalling it. (On the other hand, the bad notice doesn't seem to effect the good extension actually working just as I wanted it to...)

So how do I remove the bad extensions that say, "directburn.zip" for example? Without uninstalling and reinstalling the entire Open Office, I suppose?

I'm curious, I know I can block a domain using live mail's built in features
i.e. I can block anything from abc.com

What I want to do is block everything from .info
Is this possible?
Everything I have ever gotten from .info addresses are nothing but spam, I know no one and do business with no one using this and would like it to simply go away.

Is this possible?
I have tried the most obvious way and the system rejects it.

Yesterday I got this threat HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity 2 and my Norton Internet Security blocked them. I installed Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware, updated them, restarted in safe mode, disconnected from the internet and did a full system scan for both and didnt detect anything. Today I got this threat HTTP SurfAccuracy Config Request.

So I was wondering if my computer is infected with malawares and if someone could give me a hand here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. I followed the instructions given for those experiencing "Win Min" problems. However, they are different problems, and I was upset to find that this morning everything was as screwed up as before.this http://searchweb2.com hijack reasserts itself as the starting page everytime it's changed, and sometimes crashes new windows. The instructions said something about a scanlong, and I assume that's a HijackThis scan (searching my harddrive for "scanlog" didn't turn up anything). As such, here's what HijackThis turns up.

I had to reformat & reinstall XP at home. Now, when I browse the web, I notice that if I type "www.google.com" I get a "page cannot be displayed" error but if I type "google.com" it goes right to the site with no problem.

Google is just an example, it seems to be random (not all pages do this) and I don't have a problem once the page is cached.

Anyone know why this is happening?

A:Bizarre question about the "www" subdomain

Not all serrvers have a WWW in their address so, if you put it in the browser can't go to that address. Just like dialing a correct/incorrect phone number that's been disconnected.
