LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

Q: LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA. In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it. The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down. When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start. The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop. I could start the laptop only after removing the battery. Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge. After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again. Now the battery couldnt resume charging. I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery. Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery. When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem. I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue. However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switching the BIOS settings to default. But it still did not solve the issue. PLEASE HELP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm. Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function. Typically this is not needed in normal use.. Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected. This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement. (Batteries have a 1 year warranty). This battery feature can also produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service. This particular forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

dear iconoclast

Hi I also have the same exact problem as you.
One Key Recovery does not work.
Performing the battery gauge reset again won't work.
Let me just tell you that you have to contact customer support and send it back for repair.
The tech support representive told me to try uninstalling lenevo energy management,
but this didnt work for me either.(you can give it a try)

They told me that others are also having the same problem as well, so it's not just you.
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Y580-doesn-t-charge-and-doesn-t-detect-the-...
My Y500 worked perfectly until I did the battery recalibration.
I have sent mine back for repair and waiting for it right now.
I suggest you do the same and never touch the energy management again.

Good luck

I did, but noticed that the Lenovo Battery Gauge still points me to Lenovo Settings (left click on the battery gauge). I uninstalled Companion, and Settings, rebooted, and installed companion again, but looks the Gauge does not uninstall. How can I remove the gauge and make it point to companion? Thanks!

I have enabled the Lenovo Battery Gauge via Lenovo Vantage.  Two questions: 1.  From time to time (no regular schedule) it randomly disappears.  Why? 2.  Yesterday (1-30-2018) I had to re-enable it, and it appears to have doubled or tripled in size.  It used to be a nice, compact little icon, and now it's huge and a little distracting.  I couldn't find a setting to return it to its original size. Thank you for any assistance you might provide.

At some point in the last few days or weeks, the green battery indicator simply vanished from my X1 Yoga (Win10) without a trace, and it seems I'm not the only one with that problem. I tried downloading it from the support page, but the software was removed from the list, and a link from google only leads to a "page-not-found" message. So, what's going on? Will there be a new version of the battery indicator? Why was the old one uninstalled and not just simply updated via system update?

My Y50-70 battery is still in good condition after 3.5 years of use, I can tell by the fact that it lasts for more than 2.5 hours in High Performance mode going from 100% to 20%. I mostly use the laptop plugged in with Conservation Mode on. I regularily do cycles of the battery mostly when I'm traveling with Conservation Mode off. The cycle count is around 200, so I know it's half way its service life. However when the battery reaches around 20% I need to imediately plug it in, because then it could go down to 0% in a minute. In fact when it shows 20%, the moment I plug it in AC the battery gauge shows imediately 0% and then is slowly going up. I'm like 95% sure that the problem is with the battery gauge, and there was a Battery Gauge Reset option in the Lenovo Utilities preinstalled on the Windows 8 OS that came preinstalled when I bought it. Windows 8 and 8.1 were such a disasters but luckily then in less than a year came Windows 10 and everything ran smooth, except for the fact that Lenovo dropped half of the utilities to perform useful tasks like Fan Dust Removal and Battery Gauge Reset, instead they are offering useless software like Photo Master in the Support Section. Somehow I managed to install two years ago a version of Lenovo Quick Optimizer that does the trick for performing Fan Dust Removal but no luck with Battery Gauge Reset. The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

My Lenovo battery gauge / indicator disappears. I'm on Windows 10. If I right-click the taskbar and remove then re-add it, it comes back. And by disappear I mean it goes invisible but the space it takes up is still on the taskbar. Has anyone else run into this and found a fix? I'm using version 1.0.23.0 of the Lenovo Battery Gauge. I've reinstalled it. I've tried prior version. Nothing seems to fix it.

Charger is plugged in and battery icon is showing "plugged in, charging" but actually it is charging very slowly. Normally battery is charged in one hour or so but today it took more than one hours to reach only 24% or so. Furthermore, soon after plugging in, battery icon shows "filling in process" for few seconds then stopped i.e no filling in process. Furthermore, after whole night charging, battery is now 94% charged, battery 2: 100% charged, fully charged; battery 1: 0% charged, not charging (please attached images). Please guide how to get rid of this problem?Thanking in advance. Shahid

Hello everyone! My name is Kevin and I've had my Lenovo Y410P for a little less than 2 years. So recently I downloaded Battery Bar as I was realizing that my battery duration was slowly receding.Battery Bar, a program that shows battery level and wear, stated that my 6 cell battery had experienced 54.3% wear. I browsed the internet for specific tips on how to increase my battery duration and came upon battery recalibration. I tried it a couple times manually, but I didn't get any results. So, I then turned to the battery gauge full-charge/discharge function in my Energy Management. After running that through the night, I realized the next morning that the battery was depleted and I couldn't turn on my laptop or even charge my battery unless I followed the steps:- Remove the battery from the laptop.- Plug in the AC adapter and use the laptop without a battery.- The battery can be reattached. The battery is able to start charging. - If I remove the AC adapter for a second and reattach it, it will not be recognized and it will not charge the battery. As of now, Battery Bar shows that I have 0% wear of 52,830 mWh which is significantly less than the full capacity of a 6 cell battery; however, it's still better than what I had before. Anyways, does anyone else have this problem? And if you have, how did you resolve this issue? Thank you!

Even the menu to turn it on or off in Lenovo Vantage also disappeared too. Is Lenovo going to release next update soon to make it available, or is there any way for me to get it back? Hi, my P1 has been doing this since I got it. Installed the latest Power Management driver and hoped it would be fixed as the release notes indicated a similar issue was addressed (but for Windows 7). No luck. When I click the battery maximizer gauge, the menu pops up for a nanosecond then is gone. I tried the solution in here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Vantage-Knowledge-Base/How-to-fix-Lenovo-Vantage-Toolbar-Battery... and it worked initially but then the behavior returned. It's only a minor annoyance ... but it would be nice to fix. Anyone? TIA! -kj-

Hello, I have ideapad y500 and  I've noticed that when ever I shut it off and power it back on the battery has drained. Its about 12% per night .. Its rly weird bcs i am not using "always on usb" or any others features. I think that it is HW bug or BIOS. I have noticed that when  i shut it down -> unplug the power cable then i remove and again attach the battery leave it for 12hours and there weren't any battery drain. So it only appears when i just unplug the power cable and leave it. I have read some topics(some ppl have the same problem) but i haven't find any solution. Is there any solution to solve this problem?? Bios version is the latest one.. I haven find any newest bios ver on your website.  Tomas

A:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 issue - battery drain (shutdown)

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

One day while using my laptop, the battery of my laptop was about to drain completely so I plugged it in. But the battery was not charging. I changed the plug point thinking there was some problem with the socket but still it did not worked. I removed the battery, reinserted it and tried to charge again but the problem still presisted. Then I removed my battery and plugged in the laptop. The laptop was working fine. Keeping the laptop plugged in (laptop shut down) and reinserted the battery. The battery charged for a while then the power button and power light (in the front on the edge of the body) started blinking. Therefore, I removed my battery. So now I charge my battery by first plugging in the laptop (battery removed) and then reinserting the battery. The blinking poblem also occurs very often.  Also when the battery is attached to the laptop and I try to charge it the laptop does not powers up. Model: Lenovo B40

For now I'm using Battery Gauge Reset several times. The last time appear a problem. Turn the machine off2. Remove the battery3. Remove power cable from the laptop4. Remove the powercable from the socket5. Insert the cable in socket6. Insert the cable in laptop7. Start the laptop8. Insert the battery while the laptop is starting Then I start to search a solution. I tryed everyting that I found. I already measured my voltage on the power adapter and that seems to work properly, reset BIOS to default setting, power off the PC and hold down power button for 20-30 seconds, reinstall Lenovo Energy Management, charge battery and disharge (from this acticle http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad... ), remove battery and uninstall windows battery driver then insert battery back. Hello everyone!  My lenovo G40-30 would not charge and would not power on anymore. This is what happened, 4 days ago before the problem occured. I was about to shut my laptop down when new updates became available. Upon shutting down, the options were to Restart and update, Shutdown and update, and there was another one which I forgot. What I did was shutdown my laptop but it said do not close or turn off computer as it was updating. Because I was going home from school, I had to close my laptop and put it inside its bag. It was not opened until after 4 days.  When I opened it, it was still updating and after few minutes it said battery was low so I plugged in the charger. At first was charging fine. When it reached 60% it suddenly stopped charging. I unplugged the charger and used my laptop as usual. Again after just few minutes it again said battery low. When I plugged in the charger again, it won't charge anymore until the power went off.  Please help. What should I do? I badly need my laptop. Thanks!

hello, I have a lenovo g50-45 laptop. It's a great laptop but recently I have been having a lot of trouble with the battery. Afew days ago, I started noticing that while the computer is plugged in to power, the battery always stays at 0%. It says that it is "charging" but it remains always at 0%. The Lenovo Energy Maneger says that "the battery is weak and needs to be replaced". I tried to do a "gauge reset" but it did not do anything. Under my laptop, the region under the power connection is very how while the battery is very cold.  I am not sure what's going on. Can anyone help? It is unique because it says that the laptop is 'charging' yet the battery always stays at 0% and does not actually charge. I suspect its the "Lenovo Energy Manager" that is preventing the battery from charging because it thinks that the battery needs to be replaced. I tried uninstalling the "Lenovo Energy Manager" but I am not sure how to do it. It does not show up in the list of programs in control panel. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
