Preferred Solution: i need to speed up my computer its real slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am a engineering student and i ve been working on my project with MATLAB. last wednesday I finished my class and back home for the project, it took me almost 20seconds to open matlab. and the processing speed goes real low like taking 5seconds to open the task manager and stuck when im typing
swear to god its not like this last month. i bought it only for a two months everything goes well. I installed nothing  let alone  dropping or any damage to such expensive lap. just suddenly the speed collapse. i did the recovery for disk C and issue still exists. I run all the test even asked for remote diagnosis and the technician says it seems normal(***!)
I thought it might be hardware issue. Now im asking for help if anyone knows whats wrong with my lap. sending back for repair is my last choice since I really need it for my project.
appreciate !!!!!!!!

I run avg, hijack this and malwarebytes anti malware.  All scans are clean.  Any suggestions on finding the problem?

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!

We'll' take the "simple is better" approach, first, and see how it works.

Open a new HJT log and check all of the below to be fixed:

I have a dell computer with windowsxp. It is getting really slow. I don't download alot and I have checked for viruses and done maintenance on it. It still runs slow. I have heard that you can't do a full restore on dells. That you have to send it in and let them do it. Is this true? And if anyone can give me any tips on how to speed my computer up I would really, really appreciate it. Thank you and PLEASE HELP!!!

A:My computer is real slow!!

You heard wrong, Dell makes it easy by shipping an install CD so you can do it

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize and make sure teatimer is enabled

Do these before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder (C:\HJT) , run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the log here

The computer is real slow when I first get on-line. It takes about a half hour before it is back to normal.

Also when I start up, it takes a long and the fire-wall COMBO doesn't come on by it self anymore. I have to start it up evry morning when I turn the computer on.

This is really driving me up the wall, if you know what I mean.

A:Computer real slow when first getting on-line

The computer isn't always slow when I first start up and get on-line. This morning it seems to be normal. And there is also a problem with the anti-spyware program. When it up dates. It gets the now updates, then it takes about 10 minutes before it downloads them in the computer. The program is non-responsive during those ten-minutes. And then after it suddenly downloads the up dates.

My computer has been really slow and almost every program or application I run is not responsive for like 5 minutes before finally running properly. However, when I minimize then restore the window it is another 5 minutes of waiting before it works properly. I have attached my Hijackthis log. I am running XP SP2, installed Norton Internet Security Suite yesterday, ran a virus scan and nothing came up. No other symptoms than non-responsive applications at first. If I try to close them through the Task Manager it takes forever before they shutdown too.

Thanks.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.

Ok, Here are my specs, windows xp home sp3, home built computer out of spare computer parts in a systemax tower and motherboard from systemax. 120gb hd, 1.6 ghz pentium 4 cpu, 2x256 ram = 490 mb, SiS661FX/GX Mirage Graphics, dvd rom, cd rw, multimedia card reader, and thats about all i can think about now.

Now for the problem,

I built this computer myself about a year ago, when i first built the computer it worked pretty fast and smooth. about a month ago the computer pretty much went to a dead halt. when you try to open ie or google crome it takes forever if it even loads and after a little bit of use you cant even get task manager or anything to open. i have done multiple virus scans with malwarebytes, super antispyware, and spybot s&d cleaned out all they found and they dont find anything now but problem still continues. I have ran chkdsk /f chkdsk/r and still no help. I am running out of ideas of why this computer is all of a sudden going extremely slow. please give me some ideas to what could be wrong here. Thanks.

A:Computer running real slow

If it were mine, I would see what the maximum capacity of memory that motherboard will take. Memory is really afforadable(especially for older machines) nowadays. You onboard video is utilizing some of the memory now.
256mb X 2= 512mb normally. However, your onboard video is stealing some.

I would also back everything up and do a fresh install of windows if you haven't recently. I find that cleans things up the best. Also, try the firefox browser if you haven't already. I think it loads things faster on older machines. I would also consider scouting around for a dedicated video card as well. IMO, onboard video sucks. On board video tends to make video's and modern websites look "choppy" and slow. You might have $50-$75 for some new ram and a used dedicated video card but it might help you prolong buying/building a new PC.

Hope that helps.

A:Computer's Real Slow And Has Popups! =[

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today. I'm afraid I have some bad news concerning your computer: one or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation. You are using TrendMicro's HijackThis which is still in the testing process at the moment, so there may be some problems with it. Therefore, please download version 1.99.1 of HijackThis from the following link:HJT v1.99.1Then post back a new log,ThanksCharles

A:Computer Going Real Slow - Possible virus?

Hello Luka123,

I'm not seeing any malware presented in this log. Did AVG Anti-Spyware find anything?

Please run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on located at the bottom of the page.
A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" *The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place*
Begin the scan by selecting If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.

A:Computer Seems To Be Running Real Slow

Hello and welcome to the forum. There are many things that can slow down a computer and malware, which I see none of in this log, is only one of them. I'll have some suggestions later, but since you have ewido onboard (which unless you own it and is past the trial, is a major slowdown running with no benefits), lets do this:1) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm2) open the ewido program and choose update, allow time for it to finish. Now click scanner then complete system scan. Allow ewido to remove anything it locates unless you know it is not bad. Save that scan report, I must see it.3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = (I can't open this next DPF, unless you are positive it is safe, remove it)O16 - DPF: {A243F6C2-34D2-4549-BCCD-A7BEF759B236} (Seekford Solutions, Inc.'s ssiPictureUploader Control) - http://img.f... Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can help me with my ongoing problem with my PC. It's been acting very funny now for quite some time. The main issue i have with it, is it shuts down every time i don't have the task manager active in the desk tray, every time i close the task manager, the computer shuts down a few minutes after. With this, i do not get any error messages once I start the system back up, really weird. Another issue I have is that I can't right click on anything in the start menu, I used to be able to do this all the time, but no matter what I try, i just can't seem to fix this. Other than these issues, my cpu usage is always up and down like a yoyo, the computer is running very slow, and most times when I install applications, i get the nasty blue screen saying that the operating system must shut down. This happens with programs that I have installed in the past and had no problems with. I don't know why my computer is acting up like this, I have always tried to be careful, but obviously not careful enough. I have exhausted everything, I have even done everything that's in the post "Preperation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". I have also read the stickies "Read before posting". I am getting very frustrated with this. I dont know if this will help, but I have posted here the Hijackthis log taken from my computer. I hope this information will be enough for someone to help identify the problem/s. Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThi... Read more

I'm looking at a friends PC I built for them a while back. It seems their teenager using Limewire has caused a few problems...

First off the friend ran a NOD32 scan and it took AGES to complete. Removed "loads" of infections. I went round and it looks there is still a browser redirection happening. Sometimes Firefox doesnt load pages, whereas IE7 is fine! The computer is also running really slow.

I then installed BitDefender Total Security 2008 (I've been using it for a few weeks and found it excellent). This too initialy found over 10,000 infections (I killed the scan at this point). It appeared there was a folder in the Fonts folder called ' (single quote). Inisde it were literally thousands of files each 119k big, each a virus . I blew the single quote folder away as nothing but fonts should be in the Fonts folder. Ran another BitDefender scan - Deep Analysis. Still some infections. Installed and ran SpyBot, again more infections. Installed Avast (as one of the windows popping up is Vista Antivrus 2008 which looks highly suspect!), Avast found nothing(!).

Redirects still happening so I'm turning to HiJackThis and any help I can get cos I'm totaly stuck now...

I've followed as much of the "Before you post" thread, Panda online scan was back to front - I had to register AFTER it done the scan! Anyhoo, not surprisingly it found more infections...

Any help much appreciated. A format and rebuild is looking really tempting...

A:Browser Hijacked, computer real slow!

This machine is pretty well messed up as you already know. Sometimes a format/reinstall is the best way to ensure things are running well again.

That fonts folder you mentioned is usually associated with a password stealer. If the users of the machine do any online banking they should change passwords from a known clean machine and notify the financial institutions. In fact, any password accounts should have their passwords changed...email, Messenger, forums, etc.

Vista Antivrus 2008 is a newish rogue, so you're correct in being suspicious.

If you want to try to clean it....I require more information

Please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.

Hi! my computer is running really slowly. it has been doing this for quite awhile and i dont understand it.

when I got this dell 2 yrs ago it had mcafee on it, i left it thinking that mcafee should b good. i used Avast b4 that never had any problems. about 3 mos. after i got the computer it started acting crazy. i got in touch with dell and they told me i didnt have enough mg so i installed more.

It was still doing the same thing. the comp guy that i took it to apparently didnt no what he was doing cause he called me told me it was fixed. he said i had a virus that went rite around mcafee and he got it off. it took 3 times of him fixin and me takin it back b4 the owner called me and told me that it might need a new hard drive. i didnt hear from them 4 quite a while after that. finally bout three weeks and countless unanswered phone calls i got a call from some guy i never saw or heard of b4. he said he had my computer in the back of his van. he didnt no what they did to it.

i finally got in touch with the owner. he said he worked on it himself this time and put a new much better, larger, outstanding hard drive that cost $200. alone without labor in this time. he told me to try it out and let him no and we would work some type of $ out later.

the computer ran great after that. i tried 2 get in touch with him (at his home) after that leaving message after message n he never called me back. so i figured i got a freebie...

i uninstalled mca... Read more

My computer is going real slow lately and some programs keep crashing. I don't think I have any viruses or anything, but I just want to clean out my comp a little bit and free up some memory and uneeded programs. Also, if anyone has some tips to increase game performance that would be great too, because some of my games keep crashing or run really slowly.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:50:36 PM, on 12/28/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\WINDOWS\arservice.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exeC:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Common\Google Updater\GoogleUpdaterService.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.ex... A:Computer becomes real slow, but not sure whats wrong

Everything looks ok. Lets clear some junk and scan for some viruses:

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose Yes.

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID t... Read more

Hey, Im new to these forums, and Ive seen many people that have been helped. Hopefully, you guys can help me too =)

My computer has been working very sluggish, and my internet, I use Mozilla Firefox, does not work properly. It has been slow, and sometimes it wont even go to a website that I want to go to, and in the bottom left, it says done. Also, random pop-ups would pop-up in internet explorer even if I am using mozilla firefox. My whole computer has been running slow, even microsoft word. It asks me to save things that I dont even close. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it a lot.

Also, whenever I check in my msconfig, in the startup tab, I have random things that say "motekvrm", and "type32wc" and "pqrhayfa". These all have checkmarks in them. Even if I uncheck them, whenever I open msconfig 2 seconds later, it rechecks it automatically. The commands all say C:\WINDOWS\system32\motekvrm.dll",s or C:\WINDOWS\system32\pqrhayfa.dll",s

Whenever I also open my taskmanager, it always has rundll32.exe in my owner applications that run. I just try to close it, but my computer still runs slow.

Ive tried a lot of things, like spyware doctor, AVG, and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. They work fine for a little while, but whenever I restart my computer, it happeneds all over again.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance
