Yoga 520-14IKB Squiggly Lines

Q: Yoga 520-14IKB Squiggly Lines

Anyone else got squiggly lines in their Yoga 520 screens when the display is dark or turned off? Even after wiping with a microfiber cloth, they won't come off.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ~4yr old Thinkpad Yoga, first generation. For a few months now, I've noticed thick (an inch or so) squiggly lines on my screen that looked like lines from fingers or knuckles, so I didn't pay it much mind. But I just tried cleaning with a damp lens cleaning cloth + soft towel, and they won't wipe away like normal fingerprints. They're also very random, but very evenly distributed across the whole screen, even to the corners. So it doesn't really follow patterns of where my hands touch the screen when I draw on it. I'm worried this might be an overheating issue, or possibly adhesive showing through? I know the screen has like a matte protection cover over it (from the factory) so I'm wondering if it was applied with a glue or something and I'm seeing that. I did get the screen replaced about a year ago, due to scratches from the pen it came with. Anyone else have this issue? My warranty just expired a few months ago, so I'm really upset I waited so long to try cleaning the screen, only to figure out I don't think it's a surface problem.

Hello all. I couldn't find a better place to put this, so I chose here. My problem is that when I first got this computer (specs are in my profile), I hooked it up to an old 19-inch monitor and I noticed squiggly lines. It did this with two older 19-inch monitors in two different places (completely different buildings). Purchasing an Acer X223W fixed the problem for about 9 months until I started seeing the same lines, but only when running hardware-accelerated 3D applications. The same games and other 3D applications I had been using the prior 9 months didn't have this problem before. At the native resolution for this monitor, 1680x1050, the games will start out usually okay (except for the thick vertical lines moving from left to right of screen when in menus), then in gameplay I will notice thin straight lines moving from the bottom left to the top right. After about 30 minutes, the lines will start getting more and more squiggly, thicker and more blurry, and then progress to the point that they're extremely random. When I close the game, they stay on the screen for about 3 minutes until they go back to the barely-visible 2/3-pixels-thick horizontal lines moving up or down the screen (it's hard to tell). When I first boot up after it being off for many hours, I notice the thicker vertical lines moving horizontally across the screen for a little while (they aren't visible enough to be too distracting, but pretty annoying). Now for the kicker. Screen... Read more

My PC is going crazy and now so am I. A couple months ago my Gateway GT4016 (running Win XP home) started going haywire. It has a nVidia Geforce 6100 GPU, AMD Athlon 64 3700, and 1Gb DDR ram, After awhile the entire screen gets zigzaged and also locks up the PC. I have tried everything. A different monitor, PCIe video card. it seems to only do it when it has been on for several hours or i hook up any form of internet (wired or wireless) including installing a new 10/100 card. I have attached the latest pic of the issue. So far I have tried what I know but nothing seems to work. I have also done all the software and driver updates.

Hi techsupport, I am in need of a lot of help. Just recently while playing a game on my PC my computer froze. So I restarted and windows loaded up to 640 resolution and at 4-bit. I am locked in that situation. So I just system restored to 3days ago thinking it would solve the problem. It worked for about 30seconds but as soon as I tried opening up mozilla it froze again. And again and again so I just decided to reset to factory settings. Even that didn't help :/. I'm thinking its my video card which is a nvidia gt9800 1gb. Please I tried to also clean the computer, and dusted it because I thought maybe it was overheating. Any help is much appreciated. Also, if this may help or be the problem I used my android phone to tether internet service for a short while since my modem broke 4days ago. I am running windows vista home premium 64. Please help :(

Hi there,
Today my computer went from completely normal to outlining everything in red and sometimes blue. I've attached a photo that I took of my monitor screen with my digital camera. I photographed a black and white youtube video shot and got the squiggly lines in color. This doesn't just happen in Explorer, it happens throughout all facets of the computer (desktop, photos on my computer, everywhere on the computer).
A friend said hers just started doing the same and that she removed the recently installed silverlight and it resolved hers. I did the same and it did nothing for me.
I am wondering what is wrong and how I can fix it.
I am going to bring the monitor to a friends and hook it up to her computer tomorrow to see if it is the monitor. I am asking this question in case it is not the monitor and I have to dig deeper.
It is a 22" Dell LCD monitor, and is 2 years old. It came in a full package of hard drive, monitor and accessories.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

A:Red and blue squiggly lines on my Dell computer monitor

The image is typical of a failed or corrupted video graphics driver, or a failed video grpahics card.

If you are connected to the video graphics socket on a motherboard, I would download the latest drivers from the Dell SUPPORT site, then when you know where you can find it on your computer, remove or disable the old video graphics driver and install the new download...
If that does not work, come back and tell us a lot more about the Dell model and configuration.

It is connected Wii, Xbox, DVD player, Antenna. Still has picture and sound but shows squiggly lines on all inputs.

I bought it a few years back, and do not have warranty on it. I am trying to figure out if this is something that can be reset or if I am screwed.

I took a picture of what my screen looks like on black background to show the lines (attached and linked).

I'm currently not at home where I am having this issue, as we can't even get the computer on.. so I am limited to tell you my computer specifications. To begin, it's HP dual processor running Vista. We have an upgraded graphics card (I think it's 8800gt? but that's just a guess at this point) as well as we've upgraded the power thing (sorry I forget what it's actually called but we were advised to run our new card, to upgrade that piece too which we did).

The actual issue with our computer which began yesterday is that upon restart, the background is covered in blue squiggly lines over the entire screen. When I try to click on anything (as far as I can remember the few things we clicked on were MSN, IE, World of Warcraft, Start menu), nothing works and the computer goes crazy. It either gives us a blue screen then restarts, or goes to a black screen and have to manually restart by holding down the start button.

Prior to this happening, I was able to play WoW without any incident. I never have any issues playing my game at all normally and can't think of anything that we just recently downloaded. I know that I recently updated the WoW patch on last teusday but was able to play many days since without any issues.

I once was able to get it into safe mode and ran AVG and Spybot to ensure it was clean and nothing came up. My guess is that it might be hardware and if so, we're lucky that we've got warranty on both the computer... Read more

I wasn't able to read what it says before the computer restarted.
Little back story, the computer had started running loudly which escalated to making a noise that almost sounded like grinding(or a piece of cardboard stuck in the fan). Couldn't figure it out so I gave up, last time I used it was January, but between last August and then it was only sporadic usage. A few weeks ago I turned it on again and there has been no abnormal noises, and out of no where I get the BSOD, computer still seems to be running fine.
Going to bed now, but will be on tomorrow afternoon to run any scans or give and needed info.
Thanks in advanced!

A:horizontal squiggly lines then BSOD-dell inspiron all in one desktop

Let's try looking at these reports:
1)  Please provide this information (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

Hi all, I'm sure my specific issue has been covered, but this is my problem:

I restarted my computer due to running slowly, when it was starting back up, it prompted me to either "Run Startup Repair - recommended" or "Start Windows Normally." When opting the latter, the screen would go black, then go back to the same prompt. When selecting the startup repair, the screen goes to a blue screen with squiggly white lines with a hummingbird and a branch on it (wtf?!) and stays there for a long, long time. Is this repairing? How long do I wait? Is there anything I can do?

I've also tried restarting and trying F8 to get to Last Good Configuration, but that doesn't work either Please help!
TIA!

Blue screen is a screen for when your computer crashes but no hummingbird. You can check by going to c:\windows\minidump and seeing if there are files with the extension *.dmp. If so upload them to us.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

I've recently (13th of April) bought new Yoga 530-14IKB. It has adequate CPU i3-8130U, which is faster than i5-6200U in my sister's Acer laptop, but I anyway don't play any games. Despite that, its battery life isn't good. It works about 3-3,5 hours in Chrome. In task manager I've noticed that Yoga Mode Control is constantly using 15-30% CPU and its battery usage is described as very high. After disabling it, I can't switch to the tablet mode and keyboard and touchpad don't turn off. Is there somebody who has Yoga laptop and experience similar problem?

Hi,      I bought my Lenovo YOGA 530-14IKB 3 months back, it worked fine, but I started to notice that bottom right quarter of the touch screen is not working, It is working when screen is at exact 90 degrees in laptop mode but when I tilt the screen back by some 10-15 degrees the bottom right part of the touch screen is not working. The lenovo pen is working fine on this section of screen. Facing same issue in tablet mode also. I don't think this is software issue, maybe the connection at the  hinge got screwed up. The laptop is still under warranty. All the Drivers are up to date. Can I get a replacement if I go to service center or is this a software issue which can be solved ?

Hey. I bought my Yoga 520-14IKB (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256gb NVMe SSD, GeForce 940MX) 2 month ago, had no problems, till last week. Now sometimes i experience such a strange behaviour. Mainly i work on my laptop in normal mode, and sometimes, during such work, it can false trigger a tablet mode for a few (2-3) seconds (notification appers), which causes the keyboard to switch off for this time, despite the fact, that it still stands as a normal laptop, not even close to position, which triggers the yoga mode. How can i fix this? System is Windows 10 April 2018 Update, have all the latest drivers and latest version of BIOS.

Hello!I am trying to find out if DisplayPort is supported on the following two models: - Yoga 710-14IKB (80V4003LMX)- Yoga 900S-12ISK (80ML000RMX) I need to drive UHD TVs (4K at 60fps) and various high resolution displays using DisplayPort (HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at low refresh rates).  It seems to be difficult find out looking through the documentation provided by Lenovo. Hi MichaelG4,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There is only one port available to accommodate storage on this model.
Storage specification: M.2 slot,  2.5-inch, NGFF, 128 GB / 256 GB, SATA II/SATA III (Lenovo YOGA 710-14ISK/Lenovo YOGA 710-14IKB) (page 6 on the hardware manual)

On this model, an external USB SSD storage drive can be the most practical and useful tool for added files which is would also allow transferability to different work PC.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hello,  I have a lenovo yoga 520 14IKB, 120 GB SSD, 8 GB ram and NO HDD. As I recently had Wifi connection issues, I opened the computer to fix that (the cable popped out after a pretty rough plane ride). While in there, I saw that I had a SSD, as stated before. but I also saw that i have a unused space to put in another HDD/SSD. I believe that the SSD used in my system is a m.2 sata SSD (I am not  really sure as I am not really familiar with computer hardware), and it is located directly behind the connector for the 2.5 inch drive bay thing. The question now is wether or not I can simply install an HDD into that bay, and use it alongside the boot SSD to use it to store photos, documents etc. I should probably also mention that in sopace of a harddrive or 2.5 inch ssd, there was a "ciuya hdd dummy brk" in the drive bay. I hope to get quick answers, Thanks.

Hello, I came here to ask Lenovo Staff for any feedback. Week ago I've bought Yoga 710. After few days of use its front left corner went up, it became unstable on flat surface. Pads aren't the problem and everything is fine if notebook is closed. I left it open with some book to keep it flat over night to see if it helps, it did but only for a while. I've search through this forum if anyone had such issue and Lenovo Support members claimed several times that it should be returned as this is covered by warranty. Sides are stiff and solid but the whole front is pretty much flexible. I could flex it myself but this can damage internal parts which I'd like to avoid. So I took pictures, contacted local Lenovo Support (Poland) about it. Surprisingly they've refused to help by claiming that this is "cosmetic defect". I've asked twice, told them about statements here and I don't blame them, but there's clearly some misunderstanding. Here's the picture of how it looks like. It would be great if someone could clarify why I can't receive warranty service while I read here others did.  I still have week to return it to store but this model (with Kaby Lake) isn't available anymore so they can't replace it for me and yet it's not their fault. I'd like to keep it, stay fair and have my issue resolved. Best Regards, Simon. o/

Hello!I have Lenovo Yoga 520 14IKB (Model name 81C8). I can not say when and how, but my fan stopped working. When the laptop is turned on, the fan does not work. With a high load, it also does not work. Tell me, the value of the fan connection pins (GND / +VDC / Sence / Control)? Thanks!

Hello, Lenovo.  I've got problem with unworking fan. For this moment I tried next things: Physical accurate cleaning of fan and surroundings from dust and suchlike things. Nothing prevents fan to move it's blades (huh, blades? I don't know how it's calling)Checking connection and reconnecting fan from\to motherboard.Reinstalling Windows back to the clear version.Installing all "recommended" drivers from your support part of website.Updating BIOS to the newest version that you've offered for this laptop model.Second reinstalling of Windows but now not from Windows Settings, but from special .iso file from Microsoft's support website.Always doing checking by Lenovo Diagnostic Tool. Also, I've tried to get something from sidepart apps like SpeedFan.Stresstest with expectation of reacting temperature sensors on overheating and turning on fan.Laptop was bought from LenovoIsrael ~1 year and 2 months ago. One day (the last sunday, I think) fan just stop working and laptop, obviously, become overheating every time I'm doing some work on it. Now is the last night before really important exam for me and I can't prepare doing tests online for three days because of lags caused by overheating. There is screenshot from Lenovo Diagnostic Tool. Also, I've added dxdiag (i dunno if you need this) and msinfo32. There was no alert messages like "I cannot run Win10 because of missing fan" or something like that. Laptop is just continue working as everything is ok.  &n... Read more

Hello,  I am on the verge of upgrading my HDD and RAM.  My question lies with the RAM. My original setup had a single 4GB DDR4-2400 module installed.  Since then I could only locally source a 8GB DDR4-2133 module, which i installed and it has worked, although my laptop seems to be running hotter than usual and has on occassional overheated and rebooted. (i am suspecting it has to do with the quality of the RAM module installed.  (i have repeatedly double checked the ventilation slots etc are dust free etc.)Based on the suspision of bad RAM and me wanting to get max productivity out of my yoga520 I have decided to buy quality RAM online and have it shipped, rather than use the locally found product. My question lies with the Data Rate & Bus speeds.  Will the motherboard downspeed the faster spec'd ram modules?  What is the cap speed for this motherboard anyway? is it worth paying extra for a 16Gb DDR4-3200 or 2666?I am aware that the motherboard can only support a max of 1x 16Gb RAM. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hey everyone! Recently I'm thinking about how to use two operating systems on my Yoga without the need of dualboot. After some research I found out that many mainboards aren't able to boot from USB 3.0 or upwards. Since USB2 is way too slow for a decent performance, I'd like to refrain from that as an option. Been checking the UEFI and have only seen the option boot from USB, which does not specify if it's able to boot from USB3.0 (that has often to be differentiated). Now, I don't own a external ssd with USB 3, so I cannot test that myself. So, does the Yoga 510-14IKB support booting from USB 3.0 devices? Kind regards,kazumo P.S.: Does anyone know the technical aspect to why booting from USB 3.0 is not available everywhere? Been trying to figure it out and so far I don't see a reason why, since USB 3.0 has two lanes, one of which is equal to a USB 2.0

Hi there, I have read the psref specs for the model and it says the maximum RAM is 16GB however the processor spec (i5-8250U) says that it supports up to 32GB of memory. My question is if there is a chance to get 32GB working or this is some chipset limitation on this model? Regards
