Lenovo Y510P (Unsupported for Win 10) Camera Drive...

Q: Lenovo Y510P (Unsupported for Win 10) Camera Drive...

Hi Guys, This is something that has been bugging me for almost a year now and I've just been really lazy to solve the issue. The problem is because for some reason, unknown to all except Lenovo, they decided NOT to support Windows 10 for a couple of the laptop models that they had in their product line when W10 was launched. Just my luck, my Lenovo Y510 (Model No - 20217) is among those unsupported PCs and hence there are certain features that no longer work.(Laptops-and-netbooks :: IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops :: IdeaPad-Y510p-Notebook :: 20217 - Lenovo Support... As you can see, nothing for W10)PC Specs:- Lenovo Y510P (Model No - 20217)- 8GB RAM- NVIDIA GeForce GT755M- Windows 10 Home, Version - 1511- Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @2.4GHzThe issue that I'm facing is that my Webcam just wont work. Issue that I can see:- The light adjacent to the webcam on the laptop keeps coming on and going off and then finally just stay off (each time I try to use the camera)- Skype and other applications that need my camera can no longer detect it. Initially, my video keeps on appearing and disappearing until it finally just goes and stay disconnected, as though I don't even have a camera.- Error message on my Camera app when I try to open it: "We can't find your camera. Error code - 0xA00F4244(0xC00D36d5)- When I go to my Device Manager, there is no list called "Imaging Devices" as a whole. There are number of users who have faced this issue and there seems to be no proper solution for this. For some, taking out the battery and carrying out a defrag worked. There were two other drivers that people said might/could work:- Lenovo Integrated Driver (Integrated Camera Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (32-bit, 6...)- A Realtek Driver that I can no longer find. Either I've not installed them correctly or they both don't work as well because I'm still facing the problem. Could you help me out with third party camera drivers that could/should work for my laptop or anything else that you feel will help? I'm pretty sure my only option is a third party driver but there's a reason I'm here asking for help. Any info on proper installation and un-installation of drivers would also be of help. I really appreciate the help and hope that one of you can sort this out for me.TIA, Uthayya

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Something you can try is to do a clean install of Windows 10, and use the generic built-in drivers that come with the operating system.Create a live USB of Windows 10 using Rufus or burn the *.iso to a DVD after you download if from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

Hi,  This is the same problem that I was facing previously (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Y510P-Unsupported-for-Win-10-Camera-Driv...) and my PC just crashed (BSOD) as a result.  I've finally bought a USB webcam and no longer care about trying to make the integreated cam (built-in camera) work using some driver off the internet. As a result, to ensure that a corrupted webcam driver (rtsuvc.sys) doesn't keep crashing my PC and impacting on any other processes I want to diable the port from the BIOS itself so that even if I uninstall the driver now, it wont get re-installed after the PC scans for hardware changes. Just today my PC crashed again. Post - https://www.tenforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/80910-bsod-immediately-after-booting-system_thread_... and I'm completely fedup with the entire issue. I do not want a driver that works, I simply want to COMPLETELY and PERMANENTLY disable/remove the in-built camera and ALL drivers and software that are related to it while still being able to use a plugged-in USB camera. Please tell me how to do so as my BIOS is different (Image attached) from all of the steps I've received on the interet:"Use the right arrow key to navigate to the Security PageUse the down arrow key to navigate to the I/O Port Access and press enter to access the settingsUse the Down arrow key to move to the Intergrated Camera InterfaceUse the Enter key to access and change from UNLOCKED to LOC... Hello, I have a Lenovo y510p sli laptop for 3 weeks now, and from monitoring my cpu and graphics card temperatures via HWMonitor, Cpu reaches a max of 90 degrees celcius and Graphics card reaches 96 degrees max (Averaging 90 C) IN ONLY A FEW MINUTES when I am playing certain games. Games such as Bioshock Infinite causes laptop to lag from throttling I think. This temperature seems to be too high, is this normal? When I alt tab from game, temperatures drop rapidly.  *Fans work great. Fan speed starts to increase, and can be heard when I start playing games.I know the Lenovo y510p has overheating problems, from other users, but I was wondering what I can do to help reduce temperatures. I am using a laptop cooler underneath as well. Is this caused by a bad heatsink?I bought this laptop 3 weeks agoThings I have tried, but temperatures seems to be still too high.:1. Stop overclocking by changing power management options to max 99%2. Fps cap and vsync during gaming3. Msi Afterburner- reducing Clock speed4. Using Dust Removal Tool5. Updated latest graphics driver5. temperatures for this type of laptop is normal to be from 50 to 90 while in gaming it is normal that it is at 70-90 which is really normal and trottling thing could be due to your laptop has dropped from charger to battery so make sure you got a 170W charger and not a 120W one since if it's a 120W it will kill 2nd gpu once it begins to run on battery so thats why make sure charger is an 170W not 120W  Also overclocking cpu will give it even higher temps since it is at a speed that it's not meant to be, which i mean if you got a 2.4GHz that can do 2.8GHz max and you overclock it ot 3.4Ghz then it will have 0.60GHz speed more which then makes cpu work harder than it should and it also shortens the cpu life as well when using overclocking speed.

Hi, I have a problem with 120GB SSD m.2 (This one: LINK) which is from the official Kingspec store on Aliexpress and after i put it in my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad Y510P SLI) and installed "Windows 10 64-Bit" on it to make it my boot drive but the problem is that it only works sometimes, this means when i turn on the laptop it can't recognize the SSD because it doesn't boot it just shows network boot look at this:and when i go to BIOS the SSD is not there in both "UEFI" and "Legacy UEFI First" but it works after like 7 or 8 tries of turning my laptop on and off again and it appears in BIOS, SSD is well settled and well installed and i don't move the laptop from it's place all time so the problem is not in the hardware, when i put my PC to Sleep mode or Hibernate it just shows same problem and i have to turn my laptop on and off like 7 times to make it work, in BOIS "AHCI Mode" is chosen and i checked the SSD health it's OK and there is no bad sectors, look:    i also updated "ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and "Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller", as you see:I'm really tired of this problem and i need help. Thanks!

Hi anamorpho,

Greetings and Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As I understand that you have query regarding Memory upgrade in Y510p
According to this up to 16GB DDR3L- 1600Mhz (Support Dual Channel).
For better performance try to use 2x8GB in each slots. Not necessary to use same brand RAM in each slots  just make sure that  specs are same thats all.
And also voltage and frequency matters it should work with any brands. Still find below some Lenovo tested 8GB RAM's

RAM, DDR3L 1600 8GB, Samsung, M471B1G73BH0-YK0    |  11200504

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

Hello Lenovo users! I own a lenovo y510p for 2 years now and I haven't had any problems since last week. There was a Windows 10 creators update.. After that update my laptop dramatically slowed down. It keeps overheating and overloading . In task manager the ''Disk'' tab is always at 99% and my CPU usage is verry high. When I open Google Chrome for example it just freezes and there is nothing I can do . I can only hold the power on button so it could shut down . Even ctrl + alt + del doesn't work . When I open a game .. let's say Minecraft , It doesn't freeze but it lags soo much. There is a drastical FPS drop , and that is happening  evry 5-7 seconds. As it si on 60fps , it drops to 15 , to 5 , then goes up to 20 .. 30 .. You'll say that minecraft is heavy .. well , I play Live For Speed , which is heavy like super mario .. The same happens there too. I think that my entire system gets jagged...  Is this a virus or the windows 10 creators update is causing this? Is there a way that I can clean my system and get it fixed?P.S.  Everything in my pc lags , all the folders , all the movies etc. --------Lenovo y510p notebookCPU: ntel Core i7-4700MQ   2.40 GHz - 3.40GhzGPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M (2GB GDDR5)Memory:  8 GB

What RAM is it? If I would buy 8GB what RAM do You recommend? Thakns for any help!Konrad

A:Lenovo Y510P Upgrade from 4GB RAM.

Hi WielkiOn,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Your laptop model can support up to 16GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz x 2 slots.
Depending on your need (applications and multi process needed to run at the same time) if 8 GB is enough for you.

You can likewise run with 4GB + 8GB for 12 GB to try.
Open task manager while you have all your needed task running and check performance tab for the memory consumed. Imagine if you double the memory (assuming that you would go for a cheaper 4GB + 4GB = 8GB total). By this you can approximate your current need to decide if you go for 4GB or 8GB upgrade.

Listed on the hardware manual are the OEM recommended ram page 87.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hello everyone,  I bought a y510p about two years ago and for the first year it worked flawlessly then one day it wouldnt start up. What would happen is it would try and boot up and show the Lenovo message then go into the novo boot menu and after 1-2 in that menu it would crash no matter what option was chosen and would keep doing it over and over. It also would only do it if the A/C cord was NOT plugged in. If A/C power was plugged in it wouldnt start at all. I gave up on it for about 9 month and it sat in my closet About 3 days ago i tried it again and it booted up fine no problem, did windows updates, restarted multiple times and no problems until today where it shut down and reverted back to what it did before. Any ideas? I am stumped and believe there might still be life in it.  Thanks!

Hi there. I'm just hoping that I can find the solution as soon as possible. So I tried playing some casual games yesterday and all of a sudden the game froze and the image started tearing apart. Next thing you know it, the screen went blank. So I force shut down it and reboot, but after the Lenovo logo, the screen goes blank. There's a faint glow, but there's no image or cursor. Could it possibly be that the GPU crashed and there's no graphic to power the display? Or should I try entering Recovery Mode or Safe Mode to switch the display graphic to Intel HD? Besides, how do I enter Safe/Recovery Mode since I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad y510p for a month ago, and  three weeks after it started acting wierd by having a slow startup and sometimes it just had black screen when it was starting up. Sometimes I have to hold down the  power and try several times to turn on the computer. When it do start up, at the begining (after the lenovo logo) it makes some black screen switching (not sure if it correct way to describe it), and then it take ages for it to get on the login screen, and get on desktop, its like it doesn't have an SDD. Any help?

A:Problems with Lenovo Ideapad y510p

Hi Zenadbeg,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y510p laptop is not working as expected and takes long time to boot into Windows, below are the steps to check and resolve the issue in the computer:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
To access the BIOS menu click the NOVO button which at the left-hand side of the computer next to AC power adapter jack.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now Click on ?F10? Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

HiSo I have a problem with my laptop which is strangely weird. So I was playing Civ V with it and suddenly for no reason the sound dropped and started to produce this click noise in the left speaker.I immediately re-installed the drivers but to no avail. I took it to the shop and funny thing was it worked with that guy's win7 HDD but not with mine. (Though it should be noted it worked for him then it didn't and suddenly when rebooted it worked so fine which made me think the speakers are fine)So now the headphones work but the speakers do not and it's very frustrating. It's a very small sound that it makes like click click click every few seconds. What do you suggest I do to fix it? How come it worked with Win7 but now it doesn't work with mine?

Make: LenovoModel: Y510pOS: Windows 10 (factory = windows 8) 64 bitGraphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT755M 2GB Problem:1 When I was able to access computer HDD disk usage would randomly spike to 100% for a couple of minutes every few minutes.2 Stuck at lenovo loading screen (won't load onekey recovery or log on screen). Early Symptoms:1 Shutdown laptop using start button, after a while of black screen laptop would not shut down so I shut it down with power button. The next day windows would not start last thing I installed was Hamachi and steam game called Life is Strange. What I've tried:I have tried factory reset. For a while it worked but I was having the above problem 1.I tried a clean boot and upon restart I now have problem 2 and can no longer factory reset using onekey recovery. Solution: I'm thinking there is a virus or hardware problem having to do with my HDD and what I have come up with is to a) use something called DBAN to reformat, however I have tried to boot from flashdrive and although in the bios booting from flashdrive is enabled it won't boot ie. I have no clue what i'm doing. b) reinstall windows from a disk after formatting. Again I want to boot through flashdrive but I'm not sure how to get bios to boot it. or c) replacing the hdd with an ssd so I bought an ssd and think I know how to replace it but won't be able to use the migration software. My question is: will I be able to install windows if I just replace the HDD... Read more

Situation: Currently deployed in Afghanistan with limited resources for my personal laptop. My windows 10 OS (Windows 8 came preinstalled on my laptop) stopped being able to boot up something about a config file missing. So my easiest option I could find was to downlaod UBUNTU onto a bootdrive from a buddys laptop. I installed ubuntu but want to know if theres a way of wiping my old Windows OS and getting it back? I could go back and find the error for the windows boot. But would honestly just like to wipe it and reinstall windows. I do not have a boot disc or product key that i know of for windows since it came preinstallled. Sorry if some of what i said was redundent! Appreciate any help!

BSOD-xperts:
I've suddenly been afflicted with BSOD's on my Lenovo Y510P running Win 8.1. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then I started experiencing multiple BSOD's to the point that I had to boot in SafeMode. After doing some research, it looked like the issues were related to video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) and wireless/bluetooth drivers. I upgraded all of those and everything was fine for a week until this morning when I got another BSOD. After looking for the bug check that it reported, I stumbled on this forum and saw some excellent responses so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I downloaded BlueScreenView and ran that and I've attached the output. I have also attached output from the MiniToolBox tool. I also tried to upload the mini-dump files but I get a message saying I'm "not permitted to upload this kind of file" but I'm happy to do so if I'm allowed to.  Here is a link the output from the Speecy tool as well - http://speccy.piriform.com/results/j7BzfFXyiX3xHgrhWQqHjXV. Would someone be so kind as to give it a look and let me know your thoughts? Thanks!

Can you please upload the whole minidump so I can examine it?

It is located in C:\windows\minidumps. Select the most recently created file.

My laptop(y510p, 2 x gf 755) has strange habit of frequent shutting down itself 28-32 minutes after turning on. It doesnt matter if its in Windows, bios or Ubuntu, on battery or only on AC adapter. It will never shut down faster, and if it pass through 32 minute mark it can run smoothly and nothing will happen. Laptop is also on cooling pad and is not overheating(was cleaned few months ago and its running games without throttling). Its looks like its rather hardware problem, but I think its very strange it will NEVER shut down after lets say only 15 minutes. I tested also plugging off any device connected normally to laptop(mouse, external keyboard, hdmi monitor). Am I missing something?

Hi.I am considering buying Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p,to be more specific I want exactly this model from newegg.com. This model has 5400rpm 1tb HDD which in my personal opinion is not good enough for this laptop so I was planning to upgrade it to SSD but I am not if this is possible to remove the existing HDD and replace is with my SSD as I see no HDD bay on the back of the laptop, the manual also provides no information on how to acess the HDD. There is also no information on the size of the hard disk drive on this model,is it a regular 2.5" HDD or are they using other size drive..? I have chatted with a few representatives online, but they could not provide any specific information, one of them told me that this is possible, the other one said it is not.I hope someone can provide detailed information on this matter.Thank you.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p HDD Question.

hi quick5and,

Welcome to the Forums.

The official Ideapad Y510p specs sheet has not been released yet but the 1TB HDD is a regular 2.5" SATA HDD (same as the Y500, see page 38-40 of the hardware maintenance manual on how to access the HDD)

Other SKU of the Y510p, like this merchant, sells a hybrid 2.5" drhve (sample specs here)

As for upgrading the HDD to SSD, you may want to check Crucial's SSD upgrade for the Y510p or go with an mSATA drive (according to these reviews, the Y510p uses an M.2 (formally NGFF) mSATA drive).

Please check this pdf data sheet in the future as it will enlist the official specs for the Y510p.

Best regards,
neokenchi
