SMB 1.x MiniRedirector won't stop running

Q: SMB 1.x MiniRedirector won't stop running

I'm attempting to completely disable SMB v1 in my environment with Group Policy. I've followed what I've found online and have policy configuring 3 registry keys on workstations. This policy is set to "replace" whatever key is currently there.
Name: SMB1 Type: REG_DWORD Data: 0

Name: DependOnService Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: Bowser MRxSmb20 NSI

Name: Start Type: REG_DWORD Data: 4

These 3 keys are in place and the systems have been rebooted. However, some machines still show the "SMB 1.x MiniRedirector" service as running. I've checked the registry on these machines and the appropriate settings are there, and yet
Get-Service mrxsmb10 still shows as running. In fact, if i pipe that to
| select * it even says the startup type for this service is disabled and yet it continues running after a reboot. I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on with this. This is happening sporadically on both Win7 and Win10 machines.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed Vista RTM (business edition) not too long ago. Things have been great so far, with one exception - as of a few days ago, I've been unable to see other computers on my home network. Poking around the system, I realized that this was because my "Computer Browser" service is stopped. Trying to manually start the service threw a dependency error, so I turned to the event log for help:

The Computer Browser service depends on the Workstation service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

The Workstation service depends on the SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

The SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector service depends on the SMB MiniRedirector Wrapper and Engine service which failed to start because of the following error:
Incorrect function.

The SMB MiniRedirector Wrapper and Engine service failed to start due to the following error:
Incorrect function. Click to expand...

So, it looks like the SMB MiniRedirector Wrapper is what's causing everything to fail. At this point, though, I'm really out of my league.. and Googling hasn't been ANY help.. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions.. I would really, really appreciate it!

Thank you so much, and happy new years

I was referred to this forum because apparently I posted this in the wrong place. I apolgize for that. However regardless , I am so annoyed at this situation you have no idea. I ran adwcleaner, and all the tools I ran in the past from another problem I had with booting up. Still the pesky problem persists, once in a while I get someone talking on my computer with ads, once in a while... IE wants to know if you want to leave this page or stay on it,, Update Flash player.. and more. I run the cleaning tools and within a couple weeks there it is again.
I cannot find IE anywhere on my system so where in the world is it coming from.. When I upgraded from windows ?  Did it get burried someplace?
Anyhow I want it off my computer..
This is an Azus Laptop Model U52f
I am running windows 10 for a few months now
I use Chrome or Firefox as my browser
I have a pentium 4
and my info is on my profile as to what motherboard etc.
Thank you

A:Running windows and cannot stop IE from running in background

Have you set a browser as the default browser? That's my first thought as to why you keep seeing IE mentioned. The
talking ads are a different issue and will likely require use of tools not allowed in this forum to find and remove.
Here is a link for info on setting Firefox as the default browser in Windows 10. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see this:
Make Firefox your default browser | Firefox Help

Use the Settings app in Windows 10 to change your default browser
Alternatively, you can open the Settings App from the Windows 10 Start menu to set Firefox as the default browser:
Go to the Windows Start menu and click the Settings icon.
Click System, then choose Default Apps on the left pane.
Scroll down and click the entry under Web browser.

Click on Firefox in the dialog that opens with a list of available browsers.

Firefox is now listed as your default browser. Close the Settings window to save your changes.
Note: To change your default to another browser, see the support documentation for that other browser.

My CPU had been continuously running at 100% for several days now on my XP SP3 system. It began with the Windows Update bug where svchost was causing heavy CPU use. I ended up installing the updates manually, but the CPU is still running at 100%. It doesn't appear to be any one consistent thing causing it when checking the task manager. Just several different processes going back and forth with high numbers. It even seems to run normally when left idle. However when I try to perform a simple task, like checking email, it starts going haywire again with everything slowing down as well as a laggy choppy mouse cursor.
I can't seem to figure out what the issue is. I ran Malwarebytes and everything was clean. Any assistance in fixing this issue would be appreciated. Thanks

I am new here and this is my first question. This issue seemed to have started when using the "Morningstar" financial web site. It still does it all the time there, but now seems to be doing it on other sites as well. I've run Malwarebytes Anti Malware, Used the PC Tools Mechanic. and finally reinstalled IE8. The problem still exists. The PC will freeze and become unresponsive to any action and I will get this message?

Yes No

After hitting the YES tab, it will than resume running for a period of time, than start all over again. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try ?

Thanks, Bill

A:Stop running this script ?

Update Java. If you go the other way and don't accept script pages will load faster, but you'll be missing material and features. Some pages requiring script wouldn't load at all.

My laptop fan is running non stop, even when I use 10% or less CPU and even when I leave it alone for hours at a time. I come back, and it's still running. But the computer isn't even hot. Almost as soon as I turn my laptop on, the fan starts up and never stops. It's overheated a few times recently, resulting in spontaneous shut down of the machine all together. I had to wait a few minutes before I started it back up, and when I did, the fan started up almost immediately. Also, I set it to go into stand by mode on its own after an hour of non-use, and then into hibernation mode after 2 hours of non-use. But a few months ago, it stopped doing it on its own, and now I have to get up in the middle of the night and turn it off myself, for fear that the fan will run itself out. Keep in mind that this is an 8 month old laptop from Gateway.

Hi. I really need some help.
Yesterday I found I could transfer files from my dvd to my hard disc. They would start then the time listed for it to take just kept getting longer and nothing else happened. I then (maybe stupidly) decided it must be some type of bug so I reinstalled Vista. Since then when I have the PC going the fan is running at full speed and will not stop. I open it up and gave it a good clean but it just keeps running. Went into the bios and put settings back to original but that didn't work.
In the bios it says the fan will be fully on if the cpu temp is >50 degrees and off if <25 degrees.. Under it it said though that the cpu core was 45 degrees, chipset 45 degrees etc. Thus it doesn't seem to be a temperature thing.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Michael (from Australia).

A:Solved: PC fan will not stop running

Is the smart fan or temp feature actually enabled in the BIOS? If not it won't pay attention to the thermal settings and just run full speed. Otherwise 45 might be just enough into the buffer zone not to kick it down a notch, might try new thermal paste on the CPU if its been a couple years, see if you can drop it down below 40 or 35 even at idle.

I have a problem with an .exe file (PPScheduler.exe---for a Nuance program I use, PaperPort) that causes an error message (PPScheduler has stopped working), and it is not a necessary file as far as I can tell. I found an entry in the registry under HKEY-USERS, S-1-5-21-xxxxxx, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Run,PPSCHEDULER.

I could delete the registry key or change its name, I suppose, but I am wondering where the listing of the files under RUN are housed in the Windows directory. It is not a service. I can't find it in Task Scheduler. How is it launched? Other services or files that are housed in the registry Run entry above are things like DroboAssist, GoogleChromeAutoLaunch, ICloudDrive, iCloudservices, Akamai Netsession Interface, Dropbox Update)

Hi All

How in heaven's name do I stop this darned process from continually running and cloggin up the CPU on my PC?

When I hear the disk chattering I do a ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager and see NOPDB.EXE as the culprit. I stop the process, but within 3 mins it's off again. How do I stop it? How can I reschedule it to run at a more convenient time? Is this in fact possible?

A:How do I stop NOPDB.EXE from running...

Quoted from Answers That Work:

"NOPDB.EXE: This task can be extremely disruptive when left in its default Automatic mode. It intrudes at the most inopportune moments, thrashing the hard disk and floppy drive, and utilising upward of 80% of CPU. If you do not want such unwelcome interruptions, optimize your disk by always starting Speed Disk manually. If you go for that policy, then set NOPDB to "Manual" in "Control Panel \ Services" (NT4) or "Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services" in Windows 2000/XP."

Hello, Excuse my low level of knowledge when it comes to PCs, but since the last Windows 10 update I made yesterday, the cooling fan runs non stop, at moderate and max speed. It has never stopped today; only when I closed the laptop's lid it stopped (sleep mode).I made a BIOS update when I purchased the laptop (last month) - it had an update for the fan noise, but I think somehow the Window's update has deactivated it, or I don't know why else it will spin all the time, even with no opened programs.I also want to add that the temperature seems quite high (it's very hot above the keyboard). I have not made any other changes to my applications nor the daily activity (I use the laptop for work apps and the browser mostly). Please help me find a solution to this, I'm very worried.

I have an antivirus program (AVG) running all the time.I also have Malwarebytes free edition which I run only occasionally if my computer shows problems.  I like it, it usually manages to catch what slips past AVG. For the last 3 days, it keeps starting itself. It runs scans that I didn't ask for. I close the program, but 30-60 minutes later it pops right back up. The options in Advanced Settings are all greyed out. I can't change them. It has the "Start Malwarebytes with Windows" option ticked, and I can't untick it. The task scheduler is likewise greyed out. It has a task set to check for updates once per hour, and I can't remove it. I don't really want to uninstall it, it's useful, but this is getting annoying. What can I do?Edit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Please download mbam-clean.exe from here to your desktop and save it.
Please close all open applications and temporarily shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts when running the tool.

About twenty minutes ago I decided to restart my computer because it had been on for awhile. After it booted back up, when it reached the login screen the computer fans turned on. Since then they have been running constantly. My CPU usage is at 1% maximum. Also, the computer temperature is normal. Any ideas what could cause the fan to start running loudly?

Also, the fan area is clean, already tried that, and it is well ventilated, as I use a cooling board underneath it, both to get it higher off the surface so the vents aren't blocked, and for extra cooling.

EDIT: I did a quick search on the HP Forums and found out that this is due to a recent BIOS update. I also found a temporary fix that merely slows the fan down, but it still runs continiously. Guess I'll have to wait for HP to put out a fix for it.

A:Harddrive Is Running Non Stop

I recommend scanning the hard drive with a diagnostics utility and see if the hard drive is failing. Go to the manufacturer's website of your hard drive and download the diagnostics utility. Put the program onto a CD and boot the computer to the diagnostics CD.

Afterwards, follow the on-screen instructions and let the program scan the hard drive for any errors. If the diagnostics utility gives you an error, the hard drive is failing and this would be a good time to backup all of your files ASAP.

I'm running a Dell 4600 with Windows XP. Until recently, the PC was relatively quick but now it's virtually crawling. The hard drive seems to be working almost nonstop. I'm unsure what's happened but I'd give anything to know how to speed it back up again. I've tried running a registry repair as well as defrag but that doesn't seem to make any difference at all. Any help will be extremely appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8. The other day my power cord unplugged without my knowing. When I reconnected it to turn on my laptop the diagnosis tool began running, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to reboot normally. I've tried almost all the troubleshooting methods and I even have tried rebooting with a copy of Windows 8 on USB and dvd, but have been running into problems as well. I don't want to erase my harddrive, what can I do?

I want to stop Windows defender from running on Vista Ultimate.

I have removed all the ticks in Windows Defender=>Tools=>Options, removed the tick in "System Config" and have disabled it in "Services".

However it continues to start in the System Tray and block programs when Vista boots.

If I go to Start=>All Programs=>Windows Defender I get a message that Windows Defender is turned off and gives me the option of turning it on.
Thanks in advance

The Task Manager always show "my emusic" as running (even though I uninstalled all emusic programs). When I check the process associated with it, it says Internet Explorer.

When I try to shut down the program, it will not let me do so.

When I shut down the Internet Explorer Process, My Emusic keep coming back.

I suspect something is wrong here.
