Best refurbished laptops for wifi

Q: Best refurbished laptops for wifi

Looking for the cheapest, refurbished laptop that works best with free wifi.

I'd prefer HP laptop suggestions, but anything other than Dell will do. Never had any good experiences with Dell.

I just need a good refurbished laptop for getting on public wifi once in a while. Otherwise I really don't need a laptop. So, the cheaper the better.

I'm not really versed on electronics, especially since they change so often. So, looking for some suggestions on refurb laptops that will work for my needs.

Preferred Solution: Best refurbished laptops for wifi

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, I have some questions for you. My current laptop is falling apart, so I'm looking at getting a new one, and since I don't want to spend over $500 on it and I don't need real high performance, I was wondering how good refurbished laptops are.
My brother has a six year old Dell Inspiron 1520 which is still in great condition for it's age, so I was really looking at one of those. I don't need real high graphics capabilities, but I would like to be able to run Crysis, Crysis Warhead, BM:AA, AC, FSX, NFS:HP2, etc. on it on low to medium settings, all of which we've done on the Inspiron. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks, FSG

A:[SOLVED] Refurbished Laptops

Only issue I have with refurbs is usually the warranty.
Remember the 4-5-6 year old units may have the problem 8xxxm series nvidia graphics chips I so I would stay away from them.

Anyone have experience with "refurbished" products from Dell? Particularly laptops? I have a friend that would like to get a laptop but has a pretty limited budget.

It seems like they have some good deals but I wonder about reliability.

A:Dell Refurbished Laptops

I find the refurb Dell to be a far superior buy than new. When you buy new you are often the first person to ever turn on the system, a refurb has been turned on and failed so it is sent back for extensive testing not done to a new system, after testing to make sure it works properly it is now sold at a good discount.

The refurb looks like new and has exactly the same warranty it just cost less. The only area where it is not a better deal is if you need some specific feature, you cannot order them built with extra parts beyond a few.

Dell gets so many refurbs that the best method for buying one is to know what you want ahead of time and what you are willing to pay for it, they have new systems come up for sale several times a day so if you have the time and know what you need it can be a very satisfactory system purchase.

I've never purchased used or refurbished computer gear.

The last couple of days I was looking at some refurbed laptops for
a friend. He wants to install 98SE. 512 MB of memory is about the
limit for 98, so an older model laptop is probably a good idea.

I asked someone who has purchased several dozen refurbed (not used)
laptops for his business. I believe what he told me told me, but it doesn't
make a whole lot of sense!

All these so called "refurbished" laptops still needed new hard drives
and battery packs. Even the CMOS battery, which only costs three
or four bucks had to be replaced.

There is a popular Dell refurb that I've seen listed for $239.00. The specs
would be perfect for running 98SE. If a service contractor found a defective
hard drive or battery pack and replaced it, the retailer could never sell this
laptop for such a low price.

So, what's the final verdict on these laptops. If my friend buys one should
he expect to spend more money replacing some of the major components,
or are there online retailers selling refurbed laptops that have been completely
tested and repaired?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop for the purposes of hires graphics production (PS, Illustrator, Painter etc.) and school. I'm looking at a few and I was hoping for feedback on the system specs for each. Some are refurbished and I'd like to know what experience, if any, anyone here has with Tiger Direct's refurbished laptops.

Here are the ones I'm looking at:
Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 and Dell Studio 17
My questions about these:

Is the Intel Core i7 really worth the extra money, or would a much cheaper Core 2 Duo serve my purposes just fine? I'm not really going to be playing games on this thing.
I've never heard of Lenovo, should I be wary of them?

MSI A6005 and Acer Aspire AS5732Z
The main difference is that the first has dedicated graphics and the second doesn't.

Any advice?

A:Advice on laptops, Refurbished generally okay?

Lenovo bought out the IBM line of PC's, they are pretty good.

Are they okay to buy or is it a hit-and-miss? Or is it just a 'No'?
Also, sites don't say what has been damaged and repaired in them.
And if it's refurbshed, does that mean it could have been used for a few years, sent back and repaired? Or does refurbished mean reasonably new?

Recently purchased refurbished Dell610 XPpro OS to connect to the web using

I am able to start wifi by using fn & F2 keys, but it stops there.
My Wireless connection is Dell 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card. and the Device Manager

I am able to connect if I take the ethernet connection from the other Dell and
connect it to the laptop, but thats not what I bought it for. If I uninstall the

So I ordered a Sabrent High Power USB Wireless 802.11n Adapter in hopes that it would give me wifi capabilities

After looking at the reviews I realized that this might not actually make my computer able to get wifi... There's more info on the product here: Newegg.com - Sabrent High-Power 1000mW Long Range WiFi Wireless USB Range Extender With Detachable 6dBi Dipole Antenna!

So I just wanted to ask if this would give my computer wifi or not.

A:My refurbished desktop didn't come with a wifi card...

So I looked up the NT-WGHU specs and I see two possible issues:

1- It is not 802.11n capable, it only support 802.11G (and possibly B)
2- I do not see where Windows 8 is supported (only up to Win 7)

You can download the users guide from this page:

Sabrent USA

Good luck.

Oh, and of course, this is intended to work with your existing wireless router.

Hi there to everyone,

I'm a new member and this is my first post, so I would firstly like to apologise in advance if I appear somewhat slow and clueless, as when it comes to matters of IT, I am not the brightest spark in the box.

The reason for my post relates to the problems I am experiencing in setting up my Wifi for the first time on this newly purchased Dell E6400 laptop (Vista), as for the past few days I have gone around and around in circles with various Virgin Media technicians in getting me set up on Wifi, and after each session of them talking me through varying instructions, I'm asked to call back again, after they have re-set the passwords, however, since the last time they did this, the two original VM options have disappeared entirely, and there is a message stating that I have no Wifi networks and that the radio is switched off (not that I understand what that means). Furthermore, the last technician asked me to connect the ethernet cable to the laptop, which I have done, as if not connected I cannot use the Internet.

Once again, I apologise for my babbling, and hope that it makes sense to someone, and would be grateful for any assistance, however, please bear in mind that I am quite clueless when it comes to IT, and will need step-by-step instructions, and so I would be grateful for your patience if you are able to help with my problem.

The release of new laptops WITHOUT AC wifi should be forbidden!!!!!On an Envy 13 the wifi is really crappy! Every 4GB transferred the connection drops. My old lattitude Dell was able to have AC norm and no connection drop outs. Even my 16 years old crappy Dimension Dell 8100 with 2200 days of continuous running has less dropouts and a better transmission that this device!Sorry but nowadays when a modern device pop out from the assembly line ethernet less it should be MANDATORY to have a descent AC wifi otherwise that said device is considered as a dust trap going to the trash! Is there any way to upgrade the crappy wifi onboard wifi card? Because I had to purchase a Netgear dongle in order to have descent connection. I went from a **bleep**ty 6Mo/s with connection dropouts to a 33Mo/s. For me it's a kind of rip off! And on new devices MIMO should olso MANDATORY!If I were binary this device is a no go device and should be terminated to the trash! An M2 SSD with state of the art video card, great sound, a good battery life with such a crappy wifi card it's like having a Ferrari and mounting Kia Picanto tires!

Am a newbie with wi-fi, routers, and laptops. The cable from the wall that I use now...will....after I purchase a router... go firstly to the Cox Cable modem (provided by my local cable company..Cox)...then from there... a cable will connect to a router.... then from the router a signal (wireless) goes to a laptop (ready to go with wireless). The laptop may now receive the internet.... Now, with my trusty new desktop.... is there still a cable from the same modem to my destop computer that enables me to receiver the internet?.. What I am trying to find out is if two computers in the same house ( one a laptop...Toshiba), ...the other my desktop, can receive the internet at the same time?

The second part of the question....and thanks for bearing with me.... if I make my desktop computer.. wi fi ... with a card (PCI) or USB adapter..... can both in house computers use the internet at the same time? And can both be cabled (non-wireless) at the same time for same time internet?
Thanks, Ron

A:WiFi, Routers, Laptops,

Yes. That's what routers do.
Your router will come with a setup program that should make this easy, but let us know if you have problems.

I have a dell 32-bit running Insider Preview and nothing else.
I have an Acer 64-bit running Win 10 Home RTM and nothing else.

In my Dell, I was not able to connect Wifi after installing 14279.
Suggestion was to disable and then re-enable WiFi driver. That did not work. I went back to 14271.

So, I went to my Acer, enabled Get Insider Preview builds.
Today I got the update via Windows Update. After successful install and activated. WiFi was unable to connect.
Used the same suggestion, no avail.

This 14279 is the FIRST time I was unable to connect the WiFi.

It cannot be my computers, because they are of 2 different makes and models.
It cannot be my modem because I never have this problem .......... for 3 years.

The maddening part is............... I don't see any complaints from any forums on the same issue.
So, I can't blame MS either.

I have the linksys WAP11 router and only one computer (laptop(MAC)) works on it at a time. I called Linksys but they say I have to pay $ to get the answer ( I am out of warranty period). Any advice. I am using two MAC's and have my modem connecting to my Wireless Access Point WAP11 wifi router.

A:How do I use 2 laptops on one wifi router?

It looks like the WAP11 is only an Access Point. Do you have a router connected as well? The router allows you to have mulitple computers online at the same time. Right now you are only connected through your modem, which allows 1 computer to connect at a time.

You need to get a router if you do not have one. Once you have a router, you can post back and we will help you set it up.

Hi All,

Apologies for a similar link but none of the other threads seem to work.

We have a cable modem and a Netgear WGR614 Router. The wifi works fine with 2 x Vista laptops, a Blackberry and a HP 5500 Wireless printer.

Our Dell Inspiron 6000 XP Laptop (which existed on this network before all the above devices) was working fine til last week and now won't connect unless on an ethernet into the Netgear router.

I've tried the standard winsock fix but it didn't work.

I can ping the router and ping websites from the cmd prompt but no browsing will take place. I get the usual cannot connect page from explorer. I've tried it on other open wifi networks nearby and it's the same. The wifi icon says Speed 54mbps Connection Excellent. I have DHCP enabled to auto on the router and all the laptops and we're running WEP 64 bit security.

Please help

A:1 out of 3 laptops won't browse through wifi

2 things to try, one, only do it if your experienced with it.

1. Take out the wireless card, and reconnect it, but make sure the laptop is unplugged and battery is out..

2. Reinstall the drivers for it. If you have already done so, my apologies, just wasn't stated.

Right now I have no other options, I'll think it over, if something comes to me I'll reply.

The Packard Bell:

can you explain - is this a company set up?

post an xirrus screen shot for both PCs
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

2 days ago both of my laptops stopped connecting to my wifi. One of them is toshiba satellite A200 and the other one is Lenovo z575. What happened is that after I turned them on, the name of my wifi does not appear in the list of available wireless networks (other networks appear though). Both laptops work when I connect them to the router's LAN. also my iPad and my housemates' laptops do recognize the wifi and work properly. I tried rebooting the modem and the router several times, I tried reinstalling and updating the wifi adapter too. None has worked. I checked the SSID for the router and it is fine. So I guess the modem and router are fine and the problem should be with my laptops. I have installed bitdefender total protection on the lenovo to check for any malware and it says the alptop is clean. Can anyone suggest any solutions for this?

Install SP3 on the way-out-of-date machine.

For the one that already has SP3 ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network and also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

Hey y'all... I'm looking to buy a laptop soon and I am making a chart on Excel to compare the features of some of the computers I've been looking at. This brings me to my question.

What is the difference between Ethernet that is 10/100 and one that is listed at 10/100/1000?

And what is the difference between WiFi that says B/G and one that says B/G/N?

I see a couple laptops that I'm interested in, but they're lacking the 1000 and the N parts. But I really don't have any idea what this means.

I think N is the newer technology (correct me if I'm wrong) but here is my school's WiFi network... I think they are using the older B technology. So would that mean that the N is nice to have but not needed since the computer would run on B speed anyways?

I'm looking to attach this laptop to my wired router at home if I'm using it there, or to connect it to the WiFi network at my school.

Have you tried troubleshooting the wifi card? Could be drivers or software causing a conflict.

Things you could obtain, a USB wifi card, modem to split the network, new wifi card.

I've never tried this before but you could try sharing your network. This thread may be of some use. Else google 'laptop share network'.

My older brother and I recentely bought the HP Spectre XT ultrabook and I've started noticing that my laptop seems to be alot slower when connected to the WIFI. Using the cable works fine but as soon as I switch back to the wireless, it has this tendency to work for a minute or two at 5-4 bars (signal strength) and then suddenly drop to 2 bars slowing the connection significantly. This happens ALL the time making it extremely frustruating for me to browse the internet. I know it's my laptop that's in fault as I had the same problem when using a different wireless at a friends house. Hi all!

I'm having a bit of a trouble with my eMachines netbook M250. I was going to contact their customer support, but for some reason their services kept telling me that "That serial number is not in our database".
I'm hoping you guys can help me!

I have 3 laptops and a desktop PC. Two of my laptops are connected through wireless and my Desktop PC through a cable. Now this small isnt finding the wireless network my other computer are connected to. It has found all other wireless networks, tons of them (neighbors, city wifi, etc), but just cant find my home wifi.

I have reinstalled windows XP and reinstalled the wireless drivers. Also checked that they're the newest out there.

EDIT: I found a solution to this problem. Once I changed the Channel Selection settings from my router from Auto to 1 (out of 13), My laptop could find the wifi!
After changing it back to "Auto" it loses the connection to the wifi. The "Auto" selection chooses channel 13, which is the channel with the least noise, according to the channel scanner of the router.
Is there any cause to worry that I have chosen Channel 1? Why cant my laptop find the wifi when the router is set to Channel 13?

A:One Laptop can't find home WiFi, All other laptops can

the US are only allowed to use channel 1 to 11 and some machines sold still have that restriction - Europe can use 1-13 - hence the router is switching to 13

there maybe a setting in the wireless adapter properties to allow you to use channels 12 & 13 (Japan are allowed to use 14)

goto device manager and network adapters and right click on the adapter - choose properties and see if anything there helps

Lets see the wireless networks and channels in use - use xirrus and post a screen shot

channels 1, 6 and 11 are the most common used, as they do not overlap - so wee need to look at signals greater than -80 and see what channels are in use around you

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector

Now most of the young guests and staff had an IPhone or similar and a tablet or a laptop so it was always going to be slow.

The general symptoms were that phones could get WiFi connectivity most of the time but laptops and netbooks could not. This applied to me (with a Samsung N130 netbook) and people with much more modern and expensive laptops and sitting in the bar about 10 feet from the router (or even complaining at reception where we could see the router 6 feet away). On the other hand mobile use was patchy but worked most of the time, even for my old Nokia N82 when the netbook next to it could not get in.

The only way to get laptop or netbook connection was for one of us to go to reception and insist they power cycled the router. Then when it came back up we could get in and the connections worked for about an hour before we lost the connection and could not get back in. The link was slow but is probably ADSL and I could at least read my email.

The network was 802.11n and running WPA2-PSK. My netbook is 802.11n and running Windows Vista (but all other laptops seemed to have the same issue). When failing, the laptop was saying "unable to connect" and ipconfig /all had nothing.

I think it was failing at the WPA2 level because a couple of times it got "limited acc... Read more

A:hotel WiFi working for mobiles but not laptops

Based on the limited information presented, it looks like the wireless router is just plain overloaded. Depending on the number of wireless clients we're talking about here will probably dictate a more robust system. For commercial purposes, using a SOHO wireless router is just asking for issues like this.

I really hope someone can help with this strange and annoying problem. We have a fibre optic service which we always use via wifi ? 2 almost new (2 months & 7 months old) HP Pavilion Laptops running Windows 10. The router is in the same room as the laptops, and is in clear sight of them. All drivers are up to date and all Windows and HP updates have been installed. Much of the time we receive our contracted speed of 50+Mbps - which is fine. But sometimes during the day our Download speed drops to about half ? although the Upload speed remains pretty constant at 5Mbps. This does not happen on both the laptops at the same time ? so it doesn't seem as if it is related to wifi interference or overuse or to our ISP limiting the supply in any way. It sometimes seems that on re-checking after 1 hour, the 50Mbps speed remains, but after a longer period of time ? it drops to the lower speed.  It generally happens at least once per day. The drop in speed can ALWAYS (so far at least) be corrected by Re-Starting whichever laptop has slowed.  It then opens with the full 50Mbps speed It has to be an actual Re-Start ? just shutting down and later opening up again, does not correct the problem. If the wifi broadband is running slow on shutdown at the end of a day, then it will open up running slow the following morning. But if it is running to proper speed on shut down, then it opens up running at the correct speed. I ... Read more

Hi guys please help me urgently.
I have been facing a very weired problem with my laptops.
I got a office brand new laptop recently which i brought home directly.the weired problem is that whenever i use to connect this laptop with my home wifi, the home wifi service gets shut down and all other friends mobile phones and laptops does not get wifi signals until i restart the modem/ router.so there is definitely something in this laptop which is causing model or router to disable service.
I thought it an mysterious issue in my dell laptop and asked office to give me a new laptop which i got today and to my unfortunate luck i am facing the same issue again.
So both are new laptops without any virus or hardware software issue.

But infact there are other 2 laptops which my friend use and we never face any problem like this but the soon i open my laptop internet goes down for all.

A:Help!! Connect 2 laptops directly w/ethernet w/1 laptop wifi

After connecting them together by ethernet enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the wireless connection that has internet access. You can probably also bridge the wireless and ethernet connections, but to say that I'm making the assumption that you are not restricted to only one IP address on your free Wi-Fi. I haven't given any more details, since I assume this will jog your memory of which you did yesterday.

My suggestion is to confirm that you have the latest drivers installed for the wifi adapters. Upgrading the drivers can help with some problems.

I have an HP Desktop PC running Windows 7 home premium. It has an ethernet connection to my Huawei router. I have 2 other devices that connect wirelessly to the internet. The problem is that the desktop keeps losing the internet connection after running ok for a while. I run networking diagnostics but no problem is found - the network and sharing dialogue says I'm connected to the internet. The wifi devices are ok. I have to reboot to regain the internet connection. This has been happening for about a month, but was working fine until then. I even tried doing a system restore to an earlier date but it made no difference.

Please Santa help this damsel in distress.

Hi, this is my first post here. It’s a last resort to solve this huge problem!
The problem I have is very complex, but here is the situation at the moment. My router has a suspicious DNS loaded onto it, 1 laptop and 1 PC and 2 phones get pornographic popups on all browsers, and 3 other laptops cannot even connect to the router network!
I’ll go step by step
stage 1 : Began noticing pornographic popups on 1 laptop (DELL, Win7) and 1 mobile (Android) on chrome, firefox and torch. These popups were mostly adfoc.us and adultcameras.info. They appeared whenever any new site webpage was loaded and was clicked on for the first time.
stage 2 : Same problem began to appear on all devices connected to the WiFi network. 3 laptops, 2 phones and 1 desktop PC (that had Ethernet connected to the router).
stage 3 : After some googling I saw that the DNS changing Trojan could be the problem. And true enough the DNS on the router was a suspicious one. which a google search said was a malicious address.
stage 4 : I tried everything. Reset router, configured DNS. Run various malware scans including MalwareBytes, did an Avast boot time scan. After some time, the problem just sort of stopped. By itself.
stage 5 : 2 MONTHS PASSED. Without any problems. Now there is a new laptop also connected to the network. And everything was working fine. No popups, no suspicious DNS etc.
stage 6 : Last Friday, suddenly the new lapt... Read more

My network is like this. 3G router connected on LAN of TP-Link Wireless router.
3G router | TP-Link Wifi
Wifi Disabled | Wifi Enabled

I am using TP-Link because i needed more LAN ports as 3G router is having only one.
Now I have 2 laptops, connected to TP-Link wireless router. I am getting same bandwidth of around 1Mbps from my 3G internet connection that is download+upload speed of around 130KBps, wether the USB is connected directly to laptop or to the 3G router. But if I transfer between shared folders on my 2 laptops, speed that i get is never more than 56KBps that is around 450Kbps.

I have cjhecked with Inssider there is no signal interference by any other wifi nearby. Also i have tested using open security of wifi, tried changing between 128bit & 40-56bit encryption sharing setting on both systems & disabled all antivirus & firewall on both. There is no change in speed. Wifi is in the same room no more the 5 meters away, mode is N and 40MHz bandwidth setting.

I can't understand how the speed i get from my internet connection is faster than my local laptops. Also the specified bandwidth is 300Mbs that is 37.MBps, and i don't even get 1MBps.

A:File transfer over Wifi between laptops slower than internet speed

Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'd try fiddling with the router's wireless mode setting - usually on Mixed mode. Experiment - Set it to N (if available) or G/N or G. You may also fiddle with your Wi-Fi adapter's setting if available.

I am a new member and I have a weird problem with Talk Talk. Moved into new flat and while we are waiting for our internet to be connected(?) our neighbour has told us we can use his Tallk Talk wifi which is unlimited and gave us the necessary code to connect. My wife's Xperia phone connected immediately and works fine on this connection. Her laptop (on Vista) however connected immediately but keeps coming up as Local Access only and won't open any web pages at all. My netbook (which is on XP) also connected immediately and show full connection at 54Mbps but also will not connect to any websites.
To further compound my frustration, both laptops will connect using my t MOBILE dongle and they work fine on that 7.2 Mbps connection. Also another neighbour has BT and both laptops will connect to the openzone from that (using my son'e log in as he is with BT) and open websites through that.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am not really confident enough to start deleting things and down loading new unless I know exactly what to do.

In June 2016 our company bought Inspiron 5759. I used it at office, we have air conditioning, nothing that could cause overheating or other problems. In the end of July 17 laptop just turned off and didnt react on any actions. I brought to service center and they told it's the hub located on the same board with CPU. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole board which costs around 600 USD because there's CPU Core i7 in it. I was given another laptop Inspiron 5558 which was not used since winter of 2017 because it had problems with WiFi. I tried to connect it with LAN cable and discovered that LAN is not working, in fact there's no LAN adapter in device manager. Service center said today that's the same problem - but this time hub is not completely broken, it's just doesnt see LAN adapter and periodically shuts down WiFi. The technician told that this is a frequent problem with Inspirons and Dell knows about it but doesnt recall laptops or extend warranty on this spare part. I asked when second laptop got the wifi issues - it started at the beginning of 2017 and warranty ended in December 2016. Again just 1-2 months.

So, it looks very strange that Dell laptops break right after ending of warranty with same problem, and we can't just change the hub, we need to buy a new board which includes CPU for 600 USD.

I don't know if its the laptop or if it has to do with the router but it seems that Apple laptops always interfere with my wifi connection.

My brothers Mac does it when we both visit home and my girlfriends roommates mac always kicks both of our laptops off the wifi. After a few minutes it will let us connect back up but then dies out again after a few minutes.

I assume it has to do with the laptops because neither my brother or the roommate seem to have the problem and it only happens when they are online.

Anyone Know whats up?

Thanks All!

Here's a thought. I've been searching high and low for an affordable laptop which has

Awesome Graphics card (not sure what - but something that could handle Crysis at high)
15-16" screen with 1920 x 1080 res
4gb or more ddr3 1333mhz ram
core i7-720qm or higher processor
backlit keyboard
HDMI, long battery life, etc etc

So basically everything but at under $2500. I even bought a dell studio xps 1645 with the above specs and the price was real good ($1730 with student discount) but it had lots of problems so i had to return it.

Now that the problem is solved (? maybe?).. dell dont offer that laptop in that configuration, making the laptop around $2400 just due to an increase in RAM (6gb instead of 4gb).

And since I am unsure of the quality with dell or any other brand for that matter, I was wondering if there is any laptop out there that gives alienware m15x performance for a smaller pricetag? (a discount coupon for the above would do! hehe)

If not, what about "overhauling" or "Pimp My Laptop" sorta stuff if you catch my drift... You know customizing the laptop or even building it up from scratch.

I've done some basic upgrades in the past (RAM HDD, bluetooth card etc.) but does anyone have any experience in upgrading graphics cards, screens and CPU's?

Any experience or information about this is very welcome, as finding the right laptop in the right price is sorta like the Holy Grail of laptops, especially in NZ s... Read more
