x230T Touchpad Not Registering Clicks for Some Games

Q: x230T Touchpad Not Registering Clicks for Some Games

Hi, I got this Lenovo x230 Tablet about two months I think and so far I love it. There is one issue that I do not understand what the problem is, which means I can not fix it. I did not get the laptop for gaming purposes, however there are some rather old games (by today's standards) that would run with no issue with the specs on the laptop, and I know that some of them work fine. The problem is that the others do not seem to register neither the touchpad taps & clicks, nor the keyboard Left & Right Clicks. And using the touchscreen does not work either (although I was not expecting it to). The cursor moves just fine and it shows options being highlighted in the game's opening menu. Even the game keyboard shortcuts worked fine, just not any clicks or taps. I have gotten it to register a few times, but only when I have the game windowed and click back into the window it will register the click where it was, for that split second. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice for me. Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have the Lenovo C40-05 all in one computer and it has been doing something really annoying. For some reason the mouse moves but doesn't register clicks or 'mouse overs', as in when I'm moving the mouse like down to the taskbar, Internet Explorer and other apps don't highlight when the mouse is over it and won't let me click it. The touch screen does not register touch either when this happens, but it's not frozen, as whatever page I am on still works and I can type and use the current screen functions without the mouse. Also, say when I go to click on another tab to switch tabs on google chrome, it closes out the tab even if I am extremely careful not to hit the X. The only way to get the mouse to work again is to hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE and touble click task manager. Then it works for a couple minutes, and then becomes unresponsive again. This happens about every 5 minutes, all day long. Does anyone have ANY idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to fix this problem that started today. I'm using windows 7 and the problem is that when I use my mouse to move my cursor it works completely fine, but my clicks only register every 10 clicks or so, and it is very inconsistent. For example, if I was using Skype, I would be able to click just about everything in skype just fine besides the min/max/close buttons (or anything besides skype) unless I clicked them around 10 times. Another example would be if I had firefox taking up half of my screen and tried to click on a program on the other side of the screen, firefox would become unhighlighted but the other program would not be highlighted yet, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. It seems like the computer is registering that I am clicking but it is not doing anything with it. I have tried using three other mice to see if it was because of my original mouse but all of the other mice had the exact same problem. I have also used ccleaner in safe mode to help if there was a registry error but that did not help either and I have also done a full scan with malwarebytes and MSE and have found nothing. Another thing that I have noted is that I do not have the problem when I am at the log in screen, as the mouse clicks work just fine then, it only starts to happen after I log in. I'm currently running chkdsk to see if that helps but it is not done yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the past few days, my XPS 13 trackpad has gotten progressively worse at registering clicks when I physically push the trackpad down to click. All other movements and gestures work perfectly fine, and I can still tap to click, but this new development is still very annoying. In order to get left clicks to register, I have to push down very hard on the trackpad or click as many as four to five times to get it to register.

It does not feel or look like anything is lodged beneath the trackpad, but it is still possible I suppose. The trackpad's tactile feedback is no different now than it ever was, and it is still flush to the surface like it always has been. Has anyone else experienced issues like this? It is very frustrating.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

whenever i try to click on the start menu it pops up for a split second and then dissapears again, if i try to press the start menu button on my keyboard it does nothing. if i hit CTRL it does much the same as the mouse just many times. this means i cna't click on anything in the start menu like shut down. i can get the task manager up but as soon as i click on it, it closes. if i try going to a web page it clicks the stop button so nothing loads. just this minute my firewall has shut down for no apparent reason.

this is beginning to seem alot like a virus, although my windows install has been bad for a while (hence i was online today trying to download new drivers for everything so i could reinstall it)! any suggestions on how to get my computer usable again?

I purchased an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-575G-53VG) Laptop on Saturday. The Touchpad clicks on it's own sometimes when I'm browsing a website or hovering over programs, files, etc. and will open them. Is that normal?  It happens several times a day.  I'm trying to figure out if it happens with most Touchpads due to Windows 10 compadibility issues or just my laptop.  I've called Acer tech support several times with no luck. I've changed mouse settings (lowering double click speed), uninstalled the mouse and display drivers (then restarted laptop they installed automatcially), and added the Synaptics then ELANTECH drivers from Acer's website. I couldn't find the Synaptics and ELANTECH drivers in the Device Manager after I installed them though (only the old drivers) so I'm not even sure if they're running?I like the laptop but am afraid when I start using it for video editing, picture editing, Amazon, banking, etc. it may be a bigger issue with the touchpad's sensitivity and the laptop is brand new.  The problem has been the same before and after the Windows Anniversary update. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hello,
We just bought two laptops and both experience the same issue. While using the touchpad, suddenly, they start generating false clicks and that messes around with anything you do using touchpad. My colleague is a windows user while I am an Ubuntu user. While in Windows it seems to appear less often, in Ubuntu is like a click fest. The biggest issue is that after this anomaly starts the clicks are generated even if you don't use the touchpad. Try to watch an youtube while this is happening ....

As I cant seem to get in direct contact with Dell Support I hope for a response here.

My question is: Should we wait for a BIOS update in the next couple of days or should we return the units back for replacements?
Thank you!
Out configuration is:

My 4 mth old laptop touchpad clicks have suddenly stopped working. I've tried re-installing the relevant software although when opening I get a 'software not found' message. I've reset the Elan options to default too. The touchpad works fine for mouse scrolling but neither the left or right click pads nor the main pad clicks are working. I'm out of ideas now and am hoping it's not a hardware related thing. tbh the touchpad has never been brilliant. It would open a right click menu by itself although that stopped a while back. I'm going to try a system restore next. I'm just thankful I managed to find an old usb mouse  Just wondering if there is anything else I should try before ringing Lenovo technical support. Thanking you all in advance

Whenever I use my touchpad and left click, it sometimes right clicks. To temporarily remedy this, I would just right click to make it stop. I already resetted my laptop to its factory settings because of it. Before I factory resetted it, it would constantly happen all the time and also the scrolling would not work and it would select stuff on the desktop screen by itself. However, it is still happening. I did all the lenovo driver updates that Thinkvantage System update tells me to do. It is happening less frequently after I resetted it to factory settings but it is still annoying. This problem somehow occurs much less frequently if I use an external mouse.

Hello community, I just received one week ago my X1 carbon 5th gen, P7, 16go, product 20HRCTO1WW, bios N1MET37W1.22. I am a Lenovo fan and I had notably the T400 and the T440s. Since the beginning, I have touchpad issues with my X1 carbon 5th gen: - when scrolling with two fingers, the touchpad accidentally clicks (as If I tapped with one finger in order to click) and I don't recall one session without accidentally clicking on diverse websites and browsers (chrome, opera, firefox). Each session, my touchpad clicks accidentally at least 3-5 times. It is tiring. - I just discovered also that I can't drag something from the corner from the bottom right to the top left corner of my touchpad : indeed, while dragging a folder for example, the touchpad clicks during the course of my finger (even though my finger already press the touchpad in order to drag...). It is after discovering the second problem that I understood that my touchpad has a physical problem. For a very expensive business machine, it is rather unacceptable. I am currently on a trip but as soon as I get back to Belgium, I will ask Lenovo to change my touchpad. I am most angry by the fact that I spent hours to check every possibility to change the options in the synaptics software and the windows precision software in order to stop this accidental clicks (problem one) and up to now I couldn't resolve it. For the moment, I have via synaptics to ignore taps in one edge region of the touchpad in order to scroll without ... Read more

I've had to turn off the single finger/ single click feature in Touchpad Settings because it is nearly impossible to use 2-finger scrolling in browsers (Firefox and Chrome) without inadvertently activating a left click on a link. Of course I've set Touchpad sensitivity to the lowest setting but I can't  actually detect much if any difference between the highest and lowest sensitivity settings. Unwanted left clicks are just insanely too easy to make and none of the several official Lenovo Touchpad driver updates I've installed in the months since I bought this laptop have helped this issue. I know what a good Lenovo touchpad feels like - my Yoga 2 Pro touchpad was excellent. But that was before I believe most touchpad control settings became part of Windows 10 rather than left up to individual manufacturers? Now I'm back to the primitive method of pressing hard for a left click(s). It can actually be tiring to constantly to that and brings back unpleasant memories on using a 14 year old Dell laptop. Is this a recognized problem or is my X1 Yoga special?

Occasionally the pointing device starts to malfunction (especially after high-end playing games)

"When I click anywhere on a window (be it browser or windows explorer etc..), the window gets deselected. I cant browse at all.
Another browser (Chrome) specific click issue (when deselection isn't happening- The tab closes when I click on it.
Right click also does the same.. (deselects the window)
The problem is gone when I shutdown and start again - Restarting usually doesnt helps"

It seemed like a driver issue to me - I have installed the latest version of synaptics driver from dell (i.e. v16.3.15.3) - didnt helped.

Hi all, This is a pretty old and known problem for Lenovo laptops. My old one from 2011 had just the same problem as my new one. The issue is that touchpad behaves badly only from time to time, like for a minute every hour. If I leave it be for this period of time, next time I touch it, all is fine and movement of the cursor is usual.Does anybody know a ready solution for IdeaPad 510? Is it drivers? I have found just some mentioning of motherboard drivers, but updating them made no progress. Maybe there is a known set of drivers that were seen to fix the issue? Thanks for the help!

Hi all

I seem to have a problem with my audio devices during games! I started using the on board soundcard (mini jack to phono) into my mixer but this made clicking noises when too much sound was going on. After upgrading to an M-Audio Audiophile USB soundcard I still get the same problem!!

Can anyone suggest why this might be? Could it be to do with my graphics card or is this a totally separate issue? it is really beginning to bug me now and was considering getting a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 1950 PRO) but i may not bother if I can't sort out these audible clicks

Please help!

Hi all,

I am having problems with games on my Compaq Presario 721. It's an AMD Duron 1.2 with 256 RAM and 16 MB Video RAM (shared), running Direct X 8.1 and Microsoft XP Home edition.. The problem seems to be with the mouse pointer (Synaptics Touchpad) in games - it repeatedly hangs, and can only be freed up by going into hibernation mode and back out again. Often the computer just crashes altogether. The main offender is Fallout Tactics - I can hardly get anywhere at all with this game. I also had problems with Championship Manager. Can anybody suggest whether this is a Windows problem, a software problem, or a Compaq problem, and how I might fix it? Many thanks!

Alright, I'll start off by warning you that this is a real head-scratcher. Right, so the problem is this: In select games, moving the mouse causes an extreme FPS drop. Like, the game will visibly freeze until you stop moving the mouse. It doesn't seem to be a problem with RAM or the Video card, because as long as you're not moving the mouse, the game(s) run(s) perfectly fine with full FPS.

Two games I've noted the problem in are, Minecraft and Insaniquarium Deluxe (Wut? An ancient 2D game causes this? Obviously can't be a problem with RAM, then, right?) I understand Minecraft can be a resource hog at times, but I can run in any direction with no FPS lag at all without moving the mouse. The ... Read more

Hi, on hindsight I should have asked this question at this forum first. But I was tired from doing all the researching and bit on an old x230 convertible laptop off ebay that supposedly has core i7 3520M, 4gb of ram, and 160gb ssd. It has been upgraded to windows 10. It has not arrived yet. At around $200, it seemed to me like a steal for the specs. I do think that these specs were user-upgraded and not factory-made so I cannot speak for the quality.I read rave reviews about this device, however, most were from several years ago. I never owed a device with this specs or a touchscreen laptop for that matter so I do not really know what to expect.I guess I will start out to see if anyone still second this as a solid convertible laptop in today's standard. Does windows 10 run well on it? Seem like a lot of people run into problems when upgrading to windows 10? Is there anything special about the touchscreen or is it just obsolete technology nowadays? I mean the most resource intensive thing I will do on this laptop is just playing some online flash games so I think it is way less than what it is capable of. I was just looking for a laptop that is upgradable and can stay relevant for a long time so did I make the right call? Any feedbacks are appreciated!

Hello and welcome,

I'd be inclined to do a clean install, followed by System Update.  Since Win 10 has already been activated on that machine you likely won't need the key.

You can download Win 10 direct from Microsoft.  I haven't looked at the MS tool lately and don't know if the download varies by version (Home, Pro, ...) but if it does pick the one that matches your key.

Hello all. My X230T screen had dead pixels, and laptop was under warranty, lenovo came and changed it.but only a few months after my screen started doing that depending of the inclination. if I move it, it change the "band" color, and on some position, it works OK.  I found on aliexpress replacement panels for 50$. Before buying it, I have few questions. 1) My screen has scratches. Is the panel I will buy will directly replace the one that is there, or is there a "glass" in front that I should replace at the same time, or is it the touchscreen ?I imagine there is a protective glass in front because there is the "lenovo" sign showed for instance and it's not present on the panel, and it seems to be same part. To said it other way (sorry for my english), when I put my finger on the screen, do I touch directly the panel (that will be replaced) or is there any sort of covering glass in front? 2) I think some screen problem like this can be due to a faulty cable, but from what I read the problem would be on whole screen, not only on a line like it is now. Can anyone confirm this ? 3) If indeed it's the panel that is defective, in this kind of situation is it possible to "fix" the panel, like I don't know, putting something to "push" on the false contact so the contact stays ?  4) My panel is LP125WH2-SLB3. Those three are turned on constantly (no blinking) It does NOT help:- Change CMOS battery- Plug-in AC-supply without CMOS battery attached After all resetting measures, there are no lights turned on. After pressing the power button, the mentioned three LEDs will turn on. There is no fan, no noise from the computer. Do you have any idea? Thanks,Matthias

The Lenovo System Update utility wants me to apply two updates which it flags as critical.  One of these is a BIOS update to version 2.65.  Oddly, the Drivers & Software page here lists different updates as "Critical".  For example, it only offers me BIOS version 2.64.  Since no one ever responded to my earlier question about a BIOS update, I am still using (legacy) BIOS version 2.52 and running Windows 8.1. The information I have found about the offered BIOS update to version 2.6x refers only to UEFI BIOS.  Since I am using legacy BIOS, can I safely ignore it? System Update also offers me a "critical" Power Management driver (which is also not listed as critical for my X230T on the support page), but in the details it says that it may not be needed.  How critical is that?Is the general philosophy of "never touch a running system" espoused by Lenovo telephone support justified, or should I be more aggressive in applying updates?

Hello all thinkpaders! I'm thinking of purchasing a X230 tablet but the only thing that's stopping me is that I'm not sure if one can swap the keyboard of it with the one from its older brother the X220 tablet.Thank you all in advance.

So, I recently bought this X230 tablet/computer from a friend, but unfortunately, I cannot get pressure sensitivity to work, and it is rather frustrating.  I have Windows 10, and Photoshop CS6.  Any ideas?(Additionally, I apologize in advance-- I know pretty much nothing about Windows or lenovo in general.  I have used a Mac for my whole life, and honestly, I am still getting used to the different key commands).

A:X230T BIOS Update Critical?

What is the model type of your X230t?, ie 20F6?I find a typo error on the support page for a X230T bios...The ISO is gcuj25us.iso.The update utility is gcuj25us.exe [support page states this is 2.64, which is wrong].-> Both are version 2.65The update is marked critical due to a security exposure in 2.64.The readme, which you should read, states:Security fix addresses LEN-8324 System Management Mode (SMM) BIOS Vulnerabilityand some security fixes.==Lenovo Power Management Driver 09/07/2016 readme states:Problems fixed]Fixed Lenovo Platform Service high CPU usage issue. It shows on the support page as "normal", but flagged "critical" in system update. When a update is released to the support page, someone states normal/critical.Then the update is sent over to SU quality folks to test further, and develop "SU install wrappers" for SU to use  for the update.  For this update, SU folks set the wrapper as critical.=============Update your machine:(1)If it aint broke, dont fixit. [all readme.txt state this](2)If a BIOS update readme states security fix, you should update it.The update may fail; you could leave well enough alone, with the security exposure.(3)Power management driver.  Readme states high cpu.You could leave well enough alone, if you do not experience high cpu.Support page states normal; SU states critical.=The bottom line, read the readme.txt and decide what you decide to do with the update.  As always, take a restore poi... I have been trying to upgrade WIndows 10 Pro on my x230T to the Fall Creators update (1703 or 1709).  But each time it gets to 27%, it does its first reboot and then crashes and rolls back the installation. Microsoft support spent a bunch of time on it, and they couldn't get it to work.  They pointed me to the Lenovo Support page where it wasn't mentioned in the list of tested machines.Has anyone with an X230T get this update installed?

A:x230t, upgraded to msata, trying to get second hdd to work

Hello and welcome,

1st: your subject and content don't seem to match.  Do you in fact have multiple drives installed? Which one holds the OS you're trying to update?

2nd: are you trying to do the update via Windows Update?  Sometimes downloading the full installer and running setup from that - or even creating bootable media and running that - can get around WU failures.

Sorry I can't address x230t specifics.

Z.
