Q: Yoga won't charge battery over 59%

Is there any reason my Yoga won't charge the battery over 59%? It says plugged in but not charging? I tried charging it with the laptop off but that didn't seem to help. Please help!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

It's the Lenovo Energy Management settings.Go to Control Panel >> Power Options >> Change plan settings >> Change advanced power settings >> Lenovo Energy Management >> Enable Lenovo Energy Management.Change the battery setting from "Optimized Battery Health" to "Maximum Battery Life." By only partially charging the battery, the software is prolonging the lifespan of the battery itself. This is true of all laptop batteries. If you often leave your computer plugged in, it's best to keep this setting enabled. If you can anticipate your mobile useage in advance, you can just turn off the feature at appropriate times.It would be nice if the setting was easier to change. If somebody knows an easier way, feel free to post it.I suppose you could always put a shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Energy Management\Energy Management.exe" on your start screen, taskbar or desktop. Alternatively, you could put a shortcut on the desktop, assign a hotkey to it, and super-hide the shortcut (a little more advanced).

It looks like we can add the Yoga 15 to the list of badly designed Lenovo models with battery issues.  I just got my Yoga 15 on Monday, and by Thursday the battery was continually saying "plugged in not charging."  It's still running on AC power, but the battery is gradually diminishing.  I'm using Windows 10 64 and haven't installed any other power or fan management software. I haven't seen any other mentions of Yoga 15's with this problem, so if anyone has a solution for this model, I'd be grateful.  There is no OneKey software on this machine, so the solutions offered for the Yoga 3 don't apply here. If you're thinking of buying a Yoga 15, caveat emptor.

And now more fun: when I called tech support, they told me I don't have a warranty, not even the standard warranty that all Lenovo PCs ship with (I bought direct from Lenovo). Like I said, if you're thinking about buying a Yoga 15, there might be better options out there.  Better companies ,too.

Hello, I have an portable battery and I am going to buy the Yoga 900. I know that the USB power adapter that comes with the laptop has 2 extra pins from normal USB input. Thus, we cannot charge using a normal USB. My question is, is there something I can buy that will work?  My portable battery has 3 output 1. Usb output2. 9-12v output3. 16-20v output  now the problem is that I know I need the 20v output, but I do not have any female jack that is the new usb 6pins.. what shall I do? buy?

When I turned my laptop (Yoga 900) on this morning the battery was at about 10% so I plugged it in. When I did, I noticed that the battery wasn't charging and I kept getting a message that the USB drive wasn't recognized. I couldn't trouble shoot fast enough before the battery died. Now the battery is dead and it's not charging. Help!

Would this be for a Yoga 900-13ISK Laptop ?
 
You could follow the Power Checkout guide (page 21-22) from the hardware manual .
Plug in the ac charger on the ac port (item 1 page 8) while it is off and observe the battery indicator .
Have it connected for 1-2 hours and see if there are changes on the battery led status (page 28) . 
It should progress from blinking amber to blinkin white to solid white.
 
If there are no battery indicator (off) , it would be best to call in technical support for needed service.

Hi, I have a new Lenovo Yoga 900S. Everything was working great until Windows automatically installed the anniversary update last night. Now, the battery won't charge. Thankfully, the laptop seems to be running on A/C, since the battery is not draining. But it won't charge. I've checked the energy management settings, and I've tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver. But nothing has fixed the issue. Please let me know if you've encountered this problem. Thanks.

Hello,Has anyone ever had this happen before? As the title of the post suggests, I have a 3rd gen X1 Carbon Yoga (still under warranty) and yesterday the following happened. This is the second time since I have owned it. I had used the battery down to about 20% and turned it off. I then plugged in the charger and the red i dot on the ThinkPad logo blinked a couple times. But! The charge light didn't light up ... right away at least. I waited about 30 sec, and then turned the laptop on to see if it showed as charging. As soon as I pushed the power button, the charge light came on instantly. I saw that it said "plugged in, charging" on the battery icon, so I powered down.The charge light remained on. I left it plugged in all night. And when I looked at it the next morning, the charge light was still on.?? I powered on, and to my dismay, the laptop hadn't charged at all! But it said "plugged in, charging" on the battery icon again.So, I powered down and waited.  Within about 30 minutes, the charge was up to the 80% I have the charge capped at through the Lenovo Power Manager. What could cause that?Has anyone here experienced this sequence of events before?

Hi, I have problem with my notebook Lenovo Yoga 260. Suddenly this notebook won't to charge battery on docking station and on adapter. I must go to bios and in power set: Cut of build in battery for mainterance. Than Laptop will turn off and plug of and plug in the adapter than battery start charging. But after some time (few days( problem is back adn over and over. Before first time I get this problem laptop working fine. What is the solution? Because batter is in good condition.

Hello all, Please forgive if this has been posted. I couldn't find an answer: I purchased a replacement for my battery, but on installation it wouldn't charge. I tried disabling AC and battery in device manager. I tried complete shut down and reboot. Couldn't get the new battery to be recognized. The old battery still works a bit, so I'm not in serious trouble. but with the battery going on a few years old, I wanted to replace before it left me stranded. Is there something that must be done to tell the system (Win 8.1 x 64 pro) to recognize that the battery is new, and to reflash the battery firmware and reset the driver? Simply replacing the battery didn't quite get the job done. Thank you for any response.

I just bought my Yoga 910 two weeks ago and within the first week it would sometimes not turn on unless I plugged it in briefly. Now, it will only turn on when plugged in and can't detect the battery saying that it is at 100% but will power off when unplugged. I still have my year long warranty and would just like to return the product altogether as there are no Lenovo service stations in my area but I'm not even sure how to do this so any help would be welcome! (My fingerprint scanner also stopped working and my start screen has been glitching as well. Not sure if the problems related but I've never dropped or hit the laptop on anything so I'm hoping the product is just defective and can be replaced)

I have a Yoga 11s with an issue. It works only when connected to the charger. Although the battery icon says %100 charger plug in but not charging. I thought that it was just a simple battery error so i purchased a new battery. After replacing the battery i have the same issue.  I have updated the laptop to windows 10, however this problem has been pressent for a while. Do i have some firmware issue or have i maybe got a dammaged motherboard?

Hello.I seeking for help on this issue. I bought my Lenovo Yoga 510 about seven months ago, and today when I opened Lenovo Settings to check for updates, I saw the disclaimer that my battery can only charge 34% of its original capacity.Is it possible that a battery in its proper condition can detereorate like this in such a short period of time, or should I claim for a warranty solution? https://imgur.com/a/sZckaDg

I would call support.  They will most likely ask you to run a battery guage reset.  If after reset its still like that and laptop is under 1 year old and under warranty in my opinion they will replace battery.

Hi I bought Lenovo yoga book in June in Hongkong. And start to have some problems to charge it since September. Now it worst than before. When on charge, the light turns on, the icon  battery says it charge but the computer doesn?t charge at all.. still 10% battery, going less or more.. but switch off as not enough battery. I purchased my Yoga 900 in June, 2016.  I recently experienced my battery not holding a charge for more than 3 hours.  I used the free version of Driver Talent to scan for updates to my drivers.  Two needed to be updated. I updated both, rebooted and my battery showed a charge period for 6 hours and 23 minutes.  I believe this occurred after the recent windows 10 update.   I had a difficult time trying to discern the exact solution by searching through this forum.  Hopefully, this post will help others to find a quick solution.

Do you have conservation mode turn on in Lenovo Vantage?  If yes it keeps the charge between 50-55% so until it falls below 50% it wont charge.

Please tell me this is not waht i should have expected!   My Brand new (like i bought it last night) Yoga 720 on a full charge only lasts 2 hours.  Is it defective?   I tested it by playing a movie on Netflix without the charger plugged in and half way through the movie, i'm at 50%, so the meter seems to be correct.   Help?

It's possible you got a bad one. It's also possible the computer, being brand new, is doing a lot of things that eat battery. FWIW, I've noticed the battery gauges are rarely accurate out of the box. They give a best-guess depending on what the computer's doing over a particular slice of time. If your machine is downloading and installing windows updates, doing a virus scan, updating other programs and what-have-you - like all new computers do - then that coupled with a gauge that hasn't learned the computer, yet, could lead to the indications you're getting.
 
Give it a couple of full charge-discharge cycles. Let everything update. Update your BIOS and drivers, as well. If your machine came with McAfee, temporarily disable it.  THEN see what kind of life you get. If it's still short, use Task Manager to see if anything else is running in the background. If not, then it's possible you got a bad battery.
 
My first day with my 920 showed 4 1/2 hours. Now, it routinely shows anywhere from 6-9 hours. In practice, it runs about 5 or more when I'm using it on the road (word processing and light web browsing). My 910 did 4 hours running movies on a flight. It showed 30 minutes left when I plugged it in during the layover. It ran another 90 minutes and probably would have gone longer but the flight was over.

Intially my battery was dying at 10-30% without any notification of a low battery, which is frustrating when im in the middle of work. Now its escalated to I cannot use it without a charger plugged in. Have to send it in now for repairs and will be without a computer for my summer classes. Still have not received any help as to what to do.

The charging indicator is blinking amber quickly which is a sign the battery has less than 5%, but my battery level is at a static 87% no matter how long its plugged in for. The second i remove the cord it turns off.

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Hello, just recently I'm a very happy owner of the yoga.I'm fine tuning the setup and tweaking all kind of things.With a different Lenovo I used in the past, I could use the power manager or the registry to specify a charge starting and ending point in percentages when hooking up the laptop to the main power. This was totally awesome to keep the battery healthy and keeping the Lenovo alive to the fullest.With the 720, I don't see the battery option anywhere. Things I tried are: -Registry edit-Installing system interface foundation-Installing power management from windows 7 or 8.1-Installing/reinstalling lenovo settings from windows store-Battery gauge tool install-Bios updates Unfortunately, they didn't work So my question is, has anyone set up the battery treshold on the Yoga 720. A couple of weeks ago, Lenovo Vantage offered a bios update to version D3CN38WW. However, after I installed it, it seems that my battery cannot be charged any further than 15%. Also, charging from, say, 10% to 15% takes ages. Prior to this bios update, I never had any issues with this. I do not use the laptop a whole lot and when I do it is always connected to AC power. At first I already noticed that the battery level was lower than I expected (~40% while I use the battery preservation mode, so I had expected something around 60%), but this week I saw that it had dropped really low and that it won't charge past 15% anymore. What I tried to resolve it: - Charge the laptop while it is turned off. Doesn't do anything, the power brick hardly generates any heat. This would rule out any OS/software issues.- Try different settings (i.e.: turning on/off) for battery preservation and quick charging in Lenovo Vantage. None of these helped. What is peculiar is that Lenovo Vantage says that the battery's condition is good, but that the charger has limited support. The last thing is particularly odd, as it is the charger that came with the laptop when I bought it. Sometimes my battery will not charge, and i'm not able to force it by moving around with the computer or the charger. Other times it's charging and i can not make it not charge. It's charging 80% of the time. Maybe it's a loose end or has anyone tried anything similar?Best regards Soren

I have a yoga 260 that would not charge the battery when plugged in. I tried a different charger which didn't work and then replaced the battery but also no luck. I sent it to Lenovo and was told I need a new system board which was going to cost around that of a newer laptop. I decided to replace it myself with a refurbished board as I've done this on an old computer in the past. With the install complete it can get some charge to the board because it tries to start up but I am getting 2 short beeps with nothing on the screen. I realize this usually means there is a system board issue. I've rechecked all the connections and everything 4x so I don't think it was an install problem. Is there something else I need to do or did I just buy a bad refurbished board?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."
 
Shockingly none worked that I found.
 
Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.
 
A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.
 
To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)
 
Worked with an off brand battery also.
 
Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.
 
Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

Just received a new Dell battery for my laptop.  The battery icon starts out at 100% and time remaining at about 3. 5 hours left, then within 1 minute the time remaining levels off to about 2 hours left.  The battery showing time remaining is jumping up and down.  I am only using the computer for the internet.  No CD or DVD or gaming.  At best I get 1.5 hours out of a charge.  Is this normal?  Or did Dell send me a bad battery?

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?

Hello, Lenovo Community, I recently tried updating my battery's firmware. It was going smoothly for about one minute until my charger disconnected and my laptop's battery died and will not charge. My charger has a long history of automatically disconnecting (two blinking lights, one white and one orange) so I cannot power my laptop through the charger itself. I really don't want to get the port checked, so I am looking to see if there are any other ideas from the community.  Here is what's happening:-My charger disconnects everytime I try to boot now (used to disconnect before loading Windows 10)-My battery is disconnected from the system (electronically, not physically probably)-I really cannot power on the system.  Thank you, Lenovo Community!

 My G700 has had this issue recognizing its own OEM battery since I got it, and there is a long drawn out way of trying to resolve this, but the core problem I believe is that when the battery is Fully Drained it can't Self Identify as an OEM battery, so the laptop won't charge it.  Without charge, it will never get out of this state. Problem:  Battery not recognized correctly as OEM, so won't chargeFix:  Charge battery at least a little bit Yes, I know it won't charge, so how do you perform fix? Plug into power and take battery in and out 5-10 times, leave battery in and remove and replug power cord in side of laptop 5-10 times.  Then leave for 15 minutes, then boot normally. Battery will now be recognized!  Why because you managed to get just enough juice in there while trying to identify the battery 10x or so, for the battery to be able to successfully identify itself when you did start it up. This is a HACK fix, but way better than uninstalling, reinstalling power software, BIOS software and device drivers a number of times (which does not work all that well, I have found). Hope this helps you, let me know! OHHH, and keep your battery charged at least a little to prevent this from happening, and turn power off when not using.  I am not sure if this is just some faulty batteries or all batteries, let me know if other batteries behave better than mine. Best,Mark Eckdahl

I am dual booting Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 17.10). I was on Windows 10 when I was updating my battery firmware using the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Tool. It prompted me to update my battery and I confirmed and clicked next. Immediately, my screen turned black. I waited 10 minutes and then did a force shutdown on the computer by holding the power button. Now my battery won't charge. It is an official 55+ Lenovo battery and last week Ubuntu's acpi said that the battery was at 67% capacity and could run on battery for an hour and a half at full charge. Now all of a sudden, after the failed firmware update, my battery will not charge: whether the laptop is on in Windows 10, on in Ubuntu, or while the computer is turned off and plugged. When I do connect the AC cord the battery indicator blinks with a steady green, to a stready orange, to a rapid orange, and then off within a span of ~10 seconds. I have tried deleting the battery drivers on Windows and restarting and it does not work. I have also tried to update the battery firmware again using the Lenovo Update Firmware Tool but it repeatedly gives me the same error "The tool was unable to update the battery firmware due to an internal error." I have also updated to the latest BIOS to no avail.

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
                   --> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

Hi Guys,

I have replaced the battery of my laptop after using it on AC supply for about year after my old battery died.

I get this error message.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined
Battery may not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher."

But I am using a 65W Dell Adapter that I got with my laptop.
BTW, I tried the steps for disc AC >> Start>>Uninstall MS ACPI >> Insert battery>> Restart. This process did not yield any favorable results.

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed.What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

User comes in my office and lost the battery clip. The clip you use to release the battery. When i use a pen to open the clip i can eject the battery and reseat it, but the laptop will not boot from the battery and will not charge the battery. Is there a way to make the laptop know the battery is present without the lock clip? and how does this clip work? I think this notebook can work fine the next couple of years. Or is anybody has a battery clip for the hp probook 6550b, i will be pleased if you can send it to me, i will pay for the stamps ofcourse.
