i want to change my processor. can you help me what are the compatible processor for this laptop Satellite L355-S7905
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I think you'll find it very hard to change to processor in most laptops, unless it is a high end gaming laptop.
OK I am not completely computer illiterate, and generally I would just make the assumption that they are the same thing but Intel makes stuff that says both.
thanks a bunch

I'd like to upgrade my processor and my motherboard if needed. Can somebody tell me what processors my machine can handle?
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP d530 CMT(dg062a)
BIOS: 786B2 v2.44
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Radeon X1600/X1650 Series
I'm not sure if that is enough info.
Pentium 4: 800 FSB, 512 Mb L2 Cache, Hyper threading ( 8 different CPU's)
2.60GHz sSpec SL6WH, SL6WS
2.80GHz sSpec SL6WJ, SL6WT, SL6Z5
3.00GHz sSpec SL6WU, SL6WK, SL7BK
Pentium 4: 533 FSB, 512 Mb L2 Cache, Hyper threading ( 6 different CPU's)
3.06GHz sSpec SL6JJ, SL6SM, SL6K7, SL6QC, SL6S5, SL6PG
Here for your spec sheet
To match the Processor to the sSpec code go here (I've already done it for you -see above-but if you want addition details this is the URL
And narrow your search to: 512Mb L2 Cache, 478 socket, 0.13 micron manufacturing technology, Hyper-threading technology (under Supported Features), and the GHz processor speed stated in the HP spec sheet posted immediately above.

Basically, I want to get a faster processor for xmas, so my big question is.. how do I know what processor is compatible with my motherboard (I really don't want to buy a new one if possible)
I know my motherboard has to be able to support a faster processor but how do I find this out?
All I really Know is that I have an AMD Athlon XP (I think) 1.2GHz processor. I dont have a clue what motherboard I have, which leads to another question.. how do I find that out?
I believe SiSoft Sandra will tell you what motherboard you have. You can download the free 'lite' version here: http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=&location=downandbuy&langx=en&a=

Hi, It is an AMD motherboard, you can't put Intel CPU on it, pins won't match. Your can ONLY use AMD CPU on the following list: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03360575 RegardsRead other 1 answers
So i'm planning on upgrading my processor and the manual gives the following compatible processors:
Intel® Core™ i7 - 3610QM Processor
Intel® Core™ i5 - 3210M Processor
Intel® Core™ i3 - 3110M Processor
Does this mean that every i7 processor is compatible or just that specific 1? because i've tried finding it but that has proven to be really difficult.
Most likely, it means exactly what it says; you need the specific cpu. Just because a mb supports a given socket does NOT mean it supports all cpus based on said socket. A mb bios must have the correct microcode to run the cpu at the correct multi AND it must set the correct vcore or cpu voltage. In addition, different cpus require different amounts of wattage ie pw consumption. The mb VRs must be capable of reliably supplying the required pw.
Since this is a laptop, you are going to be very restricted on what cpu you can install.
The HP site is outdated in the sense that E8000 series is also supported in the ms-7525 motherboard which is not listed in the compatible list.. does it support also core 2 quads? since they have g31 chipset?

The pentinum d 805 I have is too loud.
Can I get a better processor than the ones from the pentinum d series with this motherboard such as a pentinum dual core or intel core 2 duo?
***I saw this article: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/945g/945g-overview.htm
Does this mean that I can use an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with the 0HJ054 Dell motherboard I have....??***
NO, the article you linked to at the Intel site doesn't mean you can use a Core 2 Duo processor in your board.
Dell boards are manufacturer proprietary with a proprietary BIOS. Only Dell can tell you positively what processors are supported by your board.
I have a rather old but new-in-box board that must go into a specific computer. Parameters dictate this board and only this board be used. It currently has an also new 2.8GHz Pentium processor on board and is running fine; but, I would like to swap this processor for a faster one. Not much gain, I know; but, that's what the owner wants.
This is the board:
Gigabyte no longer has data on this board and I cannot find a compatible processor list and the manual says nothing I can find about compatible processors.

I have searched through the HP site and this forum for information on compatible processors for the Z400 workstation. I have found lists and posts of compatible Xeon processors for the 6 DIMM motherboard: W3520, W3550, W3565, W3580, W3670, W3680 and W3690. But the W3530 is not mentioned. I am confused why the W3530 is not listed as a compatible processor when a search of the Z400 results in hundreds of results of Z400 workstation configured with this processor. it's even listed on this link:http://h71016.www7.hp.com/html/psg_111510ws1/index.asp?psn=desktops_workstations/workstation. Well an Intel is out of the question, your motherboard has a different kind of socket only compatible with AMD processors. In this case you are lucky because most of these low-end processors are soldered on. Yours is socketed and that same socket can take up to an AMD Phenom II P950 Processor (2.6 GHZ 2 MB L2 cache 1333MHz)-Quad core 25 W http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-II-Quad-Core-Mobile-P950-2-1-GHz-Laptop-Processor-CPU-HMN950DCR42... Your Service Manual This processor or any of the listed Athlon, Phenom or Turion processors listed on pages 1 and 2 of the Manual would be a night and day upgrade. Your assessment of the V120 is correct. A cell phone has as much processing power. The Manual shows step by step how to replace the processor. Be careful in there is all I can say. I am attaching some system specs from ASTRA32, but the demo version report is truncated. Let me know if any other information would be useful.

Hey guys. I have a Dell Vostro 410. Please see the specs below:-
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Chip type: GeForce 8800 GT
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0611&SUBSYS_053C10DE&REV_A2
Display Memory: 1778 MB
Dedicated Memory: 499 MB
Shared Memory: 1279 MB
Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Dell E228WFP
I want to buy a new graphics card as I feel the 8800GT is 'weak' now. I want to play games on much higher settings and higher resolutions. This involves buying a more powerful graphics card.
Now my question is how do I know / what graphics cards are compatible with my system. Is compatibility motherboard dependent? I know that the Dell PC I have does not have an SLI motherboard, so can it run any GPU?
Also I don't know what power supply the PC has. But if it can power an 8800GT it should be okay in powering other cards right?
Also do you have any recommendations as to what I should get. Price should be below ?160 / 181 EUROS / $261
I'd really appreciate your help and look forward to receiving and reading your replies.
The members of this forum have extensive knowledge and I would like to learn from that.

Which of the following are the best for getting a new laptop that I'll be using for media graphics. I want to balance speed with battery life. I need at least 2 hrs on my laptop and I'm going to be using applications such as photoshop and all applications included in macromedia studio 2004 mx, and adobe cs 9
Pentium M 410 (1.46GHz)
Core Solo (1.86GHz)
Core Duo (1.66,1.83,2.0GHz)
Core Duo 2?
Core 2 Duo, best performance out of any CPU(its so nice to say that without having someone else correct me) with no more battery consumption than its younger brother, Core Duo.
We are just starting shopping for a new laptop and I find myself really confused about processors. Needs are for general home use, watching utube vids, word processor and spread sheets, picture editing, no gaming. Looking through the local weekend adds a 17" Toshiba has this: Intel Pentium B940 processor
2.0GHz, 2MB Cache.
Other than intel and 2.o GHZ the model # doesn't ring a bell.
the other is an Acer with this processor:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core N970 processor
2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache
Any processor or brand insights would be appreciated. Is there a site that breaks down the processors?
Intel is the best. Dual core cpu's are standard. Quad core means 4 cores in one cpu which is better than dual core. 2MB L2 Cache is the internal memory speed of the cpu 2MB is standard also 800FBS.
Pentium B940 <specs
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core N970 processor <specs
If you only do picture editing, spread sheets, word processors, and youtube the Intel would be fine the rig will also be cheaper.
You should look up a review on both rigs.
I would get the acer because the AMD support Hyper transport link with 1800Mhz bus speed.

Hey all, I would like to make my laptop a bit more powerful by adding a new processor (I've already upgraded my RAM). It's a Compaq Presario CQ62. Would anyone know whether an i5 or i7 would fit it?
Thanks in advance.
You cannot change a CPU in a laptop. You have to buy a completely new laptop.
I was aghast for reinstallations of Windows 8 because of reasons unknown which ran operating system into trouble.
Now I know why this happened, because I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig', which really doesn't exists ('Msconfig' showed 4 processors for Intel Core i3210).
From next start Windows 8 ran into trouble and within a day or two of using this desktop stopped responding, happened for all operating systems where I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig'.
Therefore do not select maximum number of processors from 'Msconfig'.
Why the strangeqe question?
you see I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop with a core i7 processor, 8 Giga RAM running Windows 7 Premium and I also have an HP desktop with a core two duo processor, 3 Gigs of ram running Windows 7 Professional but surprizingly the desktop runs faster than the laptop when I give them both tthe same task on Photoshop CS6 ( a processor heavy application). I feel that I have been cheated into buying the Dell laptop which at the time of purchase was expensive in the is country.
Does it use 100% cpu for a long time? (so cpu is the bottleneck)
Is it a multithreaded application, so are tasks split in many subtasks and use different cores?

About a few weeks ago I couldnt log into windows live messenger to check my mail so I decided to try going to hotmail.com to do it. When I did there was certificate problems and I saw that my clock time was set to like 12:30 am or something and the date was switched to january 1st 2005. Also it said I had alot of new programs installed when I went to start and All Programs. There was no new programs, just my older ones I had that were highlighted like they were all new. There was nothing different.
To fix it, mainly because I didnt want to restore the computer, I used the XP system restore feature and set it back to a checkpoint from earlier in the month and it worked. Everything was back to normal and working fine.

What has happened is that where the actual charger wire goes at the back of the laptop has gone loose and broken. Also someone told me i may need to replace the motherboard, is this true?
Also will i be able to fix it?? will it be eady to fix or do you recommend i pay someone to do it?

You would actually have to open up the laptop and look inside to see the extent of the damage.

I have a pretty decent spec laptop with a 750GB hard drive, at the moment there is just big "C" drive within both the OS, installed applications and my library files on it. Is there a better way of using the space with multiple partition etc and if so what are the idea ways that some of the more "PC Friendly" people currently use?
You can always keep another partition for storage. A purpose to keep another one for data is to move the User folders to it so it keeps the C partition smaller for imaging purposed. Then if C ever becomes irreparable you can reimage the OS and Programs to C in 20 minutes while your data is waiting and current in D partition.
To do this shrink C to create a new partition, copy your active User folders (Docs, Pics, Music, etc) there, rightclick each to add to related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.
Once everything is there you can delete the content of the User folder on C. But keep C in the Library so you can see if anything gets written there.
If you use another imaging apps besides Win7 you can actually move the User folders themselves to the data partition as shown here: User Folders - Change Default Location. However with Win7 backup imaging it would deem the new data partition a System partition and force inclusion of it in the image, which defeats the purpose of keeping C smaller for imaging purposes.
Once you're working with your user folder data like this you can also consider a modern backup and syncing method like shown here in Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums
I am thinking on getting this for my wife -
Acer Aspire 3003WLCi

I know usually you find them in the $499 market with only a 90 day warranty.
Anyone have any experience with Acer laptops to know if this is worth contemplating.
