Trackpoint for Thinkpad L380 yoga

Q: Trackpoint for Thinkpad L380 yoga

I am just wondering which model of trackpoint cap the Thinkpad L380 Yoga uses, is it the Trackpoint caps, the super low profile trackpoint cap, or the Ultra low profile trackpoint cap set. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As stated in the title my Trackpoint is causing my cursor to drift to the right side of the screen. It only does this whenever I physically pick up the laptop or bend the right corner of the palmrest. I've tried to rule out any software related issues by updating the OS to the latest Windows Build, updating BIOS to 1.13, drivers for UltraNav. Once I realized none of this worked I rolled the BIOS back to 1.12 and restored the unit but it is still happening. If I turn off the Trackpoint in Control Panel -> Mouse the issue stops. I do not remember this happening when I first opened it. Any idea as to what is causing it? Thanks!

Hi,I have a L380 Yoga 20M7-001BMH with ELAN trackpoint which exhibits the same behavior as described on another forum: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=126939 The trackpad works correctly regardless of scenario, the trackpoint scrolling works correctly regardless of scenario, however, the trackpoint cursor has its axis swapped when I'm using a secondary screen in portrait orientation with "second display only" mode. More specifically, the X and Y axis are interchanged, acting as if the screen orientation was landscape. I'm assuming this behavior is due to the assumption that the primary display of the laptop will always be in landscape mode, and when connecting only an external display, it's percieved as the primary. I have Windows 10 with all updates installed, as well as all updates installed through Lenovo Vantage. The issue is present both with a display connected through a Dell D6000 dock as well as displays connected through HDMI.

Dear community,  I am thinking about getting a Thinkpad L380 Yoga since I need a more portable device than my T570. I did some research and found some issues I would like to ask real users of the notebook about. It would be great if some of you may take some time to answer my questions.  Display:  My T570 got a non-glaring screen, so usually the brightness is set to the lowest (or second lowest) value. Is this also possible with the L380 or is a higher brightness necessary under normal indoor conditions? Durability:  One reviewer stated that the build quality of the L380 is not on par with other Thinkpads. Is that true? Have you experienced damages caused by daily use? Active Pen Most reviews only mentioned very basic information on the Active Pen. As I am going to use it very often, I would like to know if there are some issues with it like jitters? If there is anything else you dislike about the L380 it would be great to know. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hey! Does anyone has any idea where I can buy a new Pen for the ThinkPad L380 Yoga? Most of the Pens available are made for a diffrent model and are therefore too long to fit in the pen silo of my TP L380 Yoga. The Pen that it came with it is ~123mmThe Pens available on the internet are 219mm (so they would stick out the silo and probably break) Also: is there a way to change the mine or do I have to buy a new Pen everytime? Kind regardsQ

Hello, A few weeks ago I had issues with my ThinkPad and, under warranty, was exchanged for a new ThinkPad L380 Yoga (honestly, I miss my last ThinkPad). My main problem with the L380 Yoga is the Pen Pro. I am a student and use Microsoft Word and OneNote daily, I never had any problems with the pen on my last laptop. However, the bottom (eraser) button on the side of the pen does not work consistently. It'll work for a short period of time until it stops randomly; the only way to fix this is to completely restart my computer. This is very inconvenient for me as I am rarely in a position where I can afford to lose a few minutes restarting my computer that often. The top (lasso) button on the side works perfectly fine and never has any issues. I tried switching the functionalities and the eraser worked on the top, but then the lasso stopped working with the bottom button. Has anyone else had a problem with this/know a solution? I want to get this figured out before my warranty expires. Every forum I have looked at online claims that Lenovo knows about this problem but is failing to come up with a solution to help customers. I've invested way too much money in laptops from this company to have such a hard time finding a solution to such a seemingly fixable problem! Thanks,Frustrated Customer

A:DO NOT BUY the Thinkpad L380 yoga (especially if you expect quality)

Yes, it's a terrible buy. There are many other problems with the model besides the flickering of the screen, the pen problem, the battery problem, the trackpoint problem, some have connection issues in certain circumstances, bleeding of white from the edges of the screen, and the list goes on. You can definitely not associate this with quality. The keyboard is nice though. Rest is a pos.

I purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga L380 about a month ago. Within a months time the screen cracked. Please, don't ask how, I have no idea. All I know is that I opened my laptop while waiting for my son and noticed a crack that spread from the bottom out to the upper areas. I would like to purchase a replacement screen, but I am having the hardest time finding the part. Does anyone know where I can find this part and where I could get it. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad L380 Yoga M27.Oh, the machine is usable, a matter of fact I am posting this using the laptop.

Have you tried parts lookup?  Sorry if you did this already.  Don't post you serila number here/online BUT if you input it at the below website it should provide the parts your laptop was built with.

Then you can buy at the Lenovo  Encompass store or other places.

I've owned ThinkPad laptops for the past 20 years.  My most recent purchase was a ThinkPad X1 Yoga running Windows 10.  My prior version was a ThinkPad Edge 520 with Windows 7. What I've noticed is that the "sensitivity" option is no longer available for the TrackPoint mouse.  I've attached a screenshot of the old Ultranav utility which allowed for the sensitivity to be adjusted from Light to Heavy touch.  On the new version, there is only the option to adjust the speed from Slow to Fast (which was also available on the prior version). I have no idea what the sensitivity is set by default, but it's definitely not a Light touch.  This is annoying especially if you have to scroll through log pages (web page or documents).  This is a real annoyance because it is so much more diffcult to use the TrackPoint, so much so, I'm debating whether to buy a mouse, which I haven't used in over 20 years. Anyway we could get UltraNav to add that functionality in soon???

I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga in August 2018. It has been used very carefully without any drops or other accidents. Today, I discovered a hairline crack on the palm rest just next to the bottom-left corner of the touchpad.  I contacted Lenovo support regarding this matter, and after seeing the photos that  I sent them (the same photos are attached here), they have concluded that it is a customer induced damage (CID) and will not be covered under warranty. The only justification for their conclusion was that there is no such issue reported in other laptops. This justification was made over the phone when I requested them an email regarding their justification. It is only the hand that is kept around this region of the palm rest. If it cannot bear the weight of the hand, I suppose the build quality and material is pretty cheap although the price was about 1800 NZD.  Have you also come across similar issues with the same L380 Yoga? What are the situations/scenarios for such a crack to happen when the device has been properly used and maintained in accordance with the product information guide? Cheers!!

First thing you have to do with a new computer is update it. Lots of drivers have come down the pike since your machine came off the line. Drivers are often updated to handle changes in Windows. So, if Windows updates itself and you haven't updated drivers with it, the odds of having a crash go way up. Download and use Lenovo Vantage to make sure all your drivers and especially the BIOS for your machine are up to date.

If that's all good, then it might be worth looking at McAfee's settings. McAfee - as well as other third-party AV software - has a nasty habit of launching system scans and self-updating as soon as you turn on the computer. Especially if it's set for a weekly scan, then misses that because the computer is off. This can consume a lot of resources causing other programs to crash. Next time Outlook crashes, launch Task Manager and see if something else is hogging the system.

I just received my brand new ThinkPad L380 Yoga yesterday and went through all of the regular set up steps.  The touch screen worked when I first opened it, but then after Windows 10 finished installing, the touch screen and pen no longer worked.  I have done all of the troubleshooting I've found listed in the forums and on the website aside from sending it back, but it still doesn't respond to touch.  The change happened right after Windows 10 was finished updating.  Is there something I'm missing?  Do I need to get an external mouse to try to disable the touchpad?  I'd really like to avoid sending it back if possible.  I know it has to be something I did and I just don't realize it.

I have a two year old Thinkpad Yoga 370 running Windows 10  that I just love, but over the last year it's developed incurable trackpoint drift.  I've tried adjusting the sensitivity updating every driver I can think of, but still nothing.  I've just disabled it because its so maddening.  If I turn it on it will work for a few minutes, but then it will drift the cursor to the lower left corner of the screen and wobble back and forth in a small area.  Applying steady pressure 'up' and 'left' for a few seconds appears to re-calibrate it somewhat but within a minute or two it does the same thing.   Some questions: On this machine, what hardware driver controls the trackpoint & who is the manufacturer? Has anyone found a solution to this other than replacing the keyboard? (a frightful job) I've heard of other users who replaced the keyboard and the trackpoint drift came right back again.  Surely Lenovo must have some way for us to solve this issue.

I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Hi, I couldn't find any working solution via Google, so I hope somebody can help with this... I installed a fresh Windows 10 Pro on the Lenovo Yoga S1 and now the three buttons above the touchpad are not working, the TrackPoint is working fine. I tried Installing the Mouse  Touchpad driver from the support website (UltraNav 19.0.17.140) but no change. The update utility does not suggest anything to install. In device manager there are two unknown devices:ACPI\INT33A0\0ACPI\BCM2F10\0 This might have to do something with it... On the support website I cannot see any ACPI driver for this model, is this right?  ThanksGideon

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12 2nd gen with these specs: -Processor: Intel core i5-5300U-Ram: 8GB-Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD (installed by myself) and SanDisk 16GB PCIe M.2-Screen: Full HD 10 point multi-touch with Wacom digitizer-BIOS: JEET78WW (1.27) The trackpad and trackpoint on this laptop has stopped working the second time and with that, the CPU fan has halted as well, with the backlit function of the keyboard non-working as well. The fan is really important because my heavy-duty use of this machine makes it really hot real quick. My laptop is pretty much useless without it and want a solution for it. I did try to update my BIOS for this because on some forums, this was an issue fixed by updating their BIOS. The system does not recognize the Synaptics trackpad and trackpoint (yes the TRACKPOINT is not working as well) and I have tried downloading the drivers of the trackpad, but to no luck the system did not recognize the trackpad. It seems as if there is a faulty connection physically, but I could not figure it out. The first time it happened, I sent it back for an in Depot Service, but this time around, I am out of warranty and when I asked a ThinkPad Certified Technician, he recommended me to simply buy a new machine rather than getting it serviced because it would cost me more than half as much of the original price of my laptop. I really like this laptop and don't want to change it, but if I have to, the 8th generation Intel pro... So, I got this computer a few days ago and it works great. Only problem is that every time I switch out of tablet mode or if I open it, my cursor moves up, and I have to tap the trackpoint a lot in order for it to stop. I took it off and I realized that if I hold down the b button hard enough, it actually moves the cursor up. Is there any way to fix this irregular trackpoint behavior? It's probably hardware related, so I might have to send it in for repair (ugh).

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hi all,Recently, one of my friends bought a ThinkPad L380 laptop. I would say the internal speaker has improved. The bass goes deeper and treble is more extended compared to the older model
To tweak the sound:1. Right-click the photo below, save as Desktop. You may try both to see which EQ you prefer.

2. Go to Start > All Apps (All Programs) > Dolby > Dolby Audio.

3. Drag it onto the Dolby Atmos application.Do take note that if you were to connect your external speaker/headphone to the headphone jack, change the EQ to others, or off. As this EQ preset is only optimized for L380, L380 Yoga, S2 and S2 Yoga Speakers, not optimized for your external speaker/headphone.Hope you enjoy this tweaks!

It would take more than a few minutes to simply boot up Windows, I would go to the kitchen to brew a pot of coffee, then come back to the Sony laptop to finally start up Windows. It was practically unusable. My new L380 with its 256GB SSD drive boots up Windows in only 10 to 15 seconds and shuts down even faster. I'm simply blown away! Truly amazed! Plus it's my first laptop with a 2 in 1 design touchscreen with stylus pen writing...so cool! I was also checking out some Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 laptops (930 model?) and was impressed with its thinness and screen brilliance. But I didn't like the minimal connection ports on the sides of the laptops. Nor did I like the very reflective screen. Also didn't care for the keyboard and lack of right/left click buttons on these other Yoga models.  Some questions please: 1) I'm wondering if it's worthwhile for me to upgrade the built-in 8GB of RAM? So far it's been very quick for my basic needs. But I'm considering doing more intensive Photoshop commands such as batch processing hundreds or thousands or Nikon digital RAW files in the future. Will 8 GB of RAM be sufficient for this task? 2) I calle... Read more

Hi there,  Since yesterday I received a brandnew Thinkpad L380 Yoga with a Thinkpad Pen Pro. My problem is very simple: the pen doesn't work. I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue. The touchscreen itself works perfectly when I touched it with my fingers. With the pen, nothing happens.  I searched a lot on the internet for a solution but didn't find anyhting.. Thank you

Whenever I try to boot my laptop the lights on the buttons (escape, f1, f5 and caps lock) turn on like they usually do but then the lights turn off like its flickering. So I put my ear next to the laptop and it sounds like something is turning on whenever the lights turn on. But then the sound stops and it resets.

A:ThinkPad l380 not turning on (SOLVED)

I looked on the bottom and saw that the fan would start spinning and then stop spinning everytime the light flashed

Hi all,I have had my L380 for a few months now, and an issue I've had for a while now is that my trackpad often stops responding and goes all jittery when using it, rendering it unusable. I believe it is down to sweat on my fingers that causes it to be unusable, which, unfortunately, is me most of the time. This forces me to either use the trackpoint or an external mouse, both of which are not particularly convenient. Is this a common problem or should I get this sent in for repair? Many thanks,Ollie.

When I first bought the laptop I disabled camera and microphone access for all programs. Now I can't enable the Camera. I did windows and lenovo updates. Camera driver update, and unistall. Lenovo Vantage unistall and install (now it doesnt show the camera privacy option).  After all of this, the camera is still not working, it is grayed out. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix it. I really like the laptop and dont want to return it for something this dumb.
