Charge Threshold - Registry Ignored

Q: Charge Threshold - Registry Ignored

I am driven crazy by Battery Charge settings on T440 (Windows 10). It charges internal and external battery to 80% whatever I do. I can't change this (for example to increase level so as to maximise battery life when going on a trip). The controls in Lenovo Settings have no effect - ON/OFF, changing thresholds all do nothing. I have looked in the Registry and changed the Start and Stop Values for the specific batteries and also disabled both Start and Stop charge control - this has no effect after a system Reset although the new Registry settings are there. The same 80% battery thresholds are used when the device is switched off which must surely mean that it is not software controlled and some settings must have been passed to to the battery or charging system hardware. As far as I know I have the latest versions of Lenovo Settings, Power Manager etc. The fact that the registry settings are ignored leaves me nothing else to try. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure where I'd submit a bug report, has anyone else experienced the following? I have my charging thresholds set to 80% in Lenovo Companion for my T470. However, it seem like half the time it will end up charging one or both batteries to 100%. What seems to happen is it charges to 80%, and it might sit there for a little while, and then a battery creeps to 81%, at which point it then gets charged to 100%. I'm assuming the code behind the threshold portion of the program is saying if charge == threshold rather than if charge >= threshold to determine when to cut the charging off.

Hi,I just activated battery "charge threshold" mode (with the default 80-85%). Let's say I need to charge the battery to 100% once a week, how do I do that without changing the threshold in Vantage? Thank you!

A:How to do a full charge when "charge threshold" mode is activated

You can turn off chargin threshold.  It should fully charge.  Then turn back on charging threshold afterwards.  I've done that on Thinkpads before.  Turn off charging threshold and once charged to 100% for a out of office business appointment then turn back on charging threshold.  A little error message pops up in vantage that something to the effect charging threshold wont take effect until battery level is below threshold limit.  The thresholds are still stored from when you turn charging threshold off and back on in Vantage.

My machine type: 20BS.  I?ve downloaded and installed the latest Lenovo Power Management Driver, n20ku12w_x64.exe, for my machine, but the "Battery Charge Threshold? function is not there.  What happened to the "Battery Charge Threshold" function that used to be part of the Lenovo Vantage, Power Settings?  The battery icon on the Task Bar shows shows 100% charge along with the power plug symbol, which I assume means that the battery is being charged.

It's great that Lenovo Vantage cares about the lifespan of our batteries and offers us a choice of charge threshold.  But it offers no guidance what maximum level to set, except that it should be less than 100%.  Lenovo must have studied the effect of maximum charge on battery lifespan, and I wish it would share that information with us.  Higher maximum offers a convenience for most users, but they might be willing to trade some of that convenience for some increase in battery lifespan.  We need data in order to decide.  For example, does even setting the maximum at 95% have significant livespan advantage vs. setting maximum at 100%?  Without knowing such things we're just bumbling in setting battery charge threshold.

My P51 battery is set to start charging when below 80% and stop charging at 95%.  (Lenovo Companion> Hardware Settings> Power> Battery Charge Threshold> Start Charging When Below 80%> Stop Charging at 95%).  I have my P51 plugged in all the time.  The battery always stays at 95% charged, it never reduces down to below 80% and then automatically recharges back up to 95%.  Obviously the P51 will run the battery down when unplugged and then when plugged back in it will recharge back up to 95% capacity and stay there. My older T530 had the same settings as my new P51 does but it honors the charging perameters  set by the T530's Lenovo Companion's Charging Threshold....The battery charge gradually reduces to below 80% and then it automatically recharges back up to 95%...Thus "exercising the battery".                       My question is two fold...1.  Why doesn't the P51 perform the same way that the T530 does using the same Charging Thresholds?2.  Isn't it beneficial for a Lithium Battery to vary it's charge vs. staying charged always at the same level? Curious...Altoid666

My guess is that the power management works the same.  Probably, the T530's cells are slowly losing charge over time and when it gets below 80% it charges.  The new battery cells probably lose charge also, but MUCH more slowly.  When it gets below 80%, it will charge.  If you want to vary the charge level, unplug it for a few minutes, occasionally.  I think Lithium cells degrade over time, but I think the degredation speed has more to do with ambient temperature and number of recharge cycles.

Hi! I have X1C 5th 20HR. I was using it with the Windows 10 Pro which came built in. I was using it with the battery charge threshold option (95%).After that, I switched to Ubuntu and clean installed it. I tried to change it (charge threshold) also with Ubuntu, but I failed. The battery was only charging up to 94 % all the time. I was okay with it.Yet, after several months, I had to change back to Windows. Now I have Win10 Pro again, but this time, whenever I try to set up a threshold, it is set for several seconds, and after that, it turns itself off automatically. I tried it like 30 times already with a different threshold, with different levels of battery charge, almost with an empty battery, but no result. Is this behavior expected? How can I fix it? I will attach my attempt as GIF file

Hi,  I have an X1 yoga gen 2 since a bit more than a year, I like this laptop but to be honest there are a few annoying quirks. Pen not working properly since day one, keys marking the screen, disappointing battery, but that not why I am posting today, since the last 6 months, when then pushed the vantage software the battery threshold setting are not really saved, it works for a day or two and then revert back to off, charging the battery to 100%. I read it happen for other people after reaching 0% battery but that is never my case as I rarely go under 20%  Any help would be appreciated. I have a Lenovo T460s that will only charge when the computer is either turned off or in hibernation. When turned on, I get the dialog box stating that "Incorrect AC adapter is attached." , along with the boilerplate text that details the problem, and gives some helpful advice.  I have searched the forums for a solution, and have tried a few things (like disabling airplane charging mode) but to no avail. We had replaced the power cord and charger, but the problem persists. I suspect that the charging port itself was damaged, and not the charger. Is it possible to determine if the problem is truly due to a lack of amperage (or wattage)?  I suspect that the rectangular charge adapter has a simple detection mechanism to determine the wattage of the power supply, and that this mechanism is causing the laptop to incorrectly detect the wrong type of power supply. If this is the case, is there a setting, either in BIOS or in Windows itself, that can disable this detection and enable the laptop to charge, despite the damaged port? (I realize this is not ideal or recommended.) Thanks in advance.

A:T460s won't charge properly-"Incorrect AC adapter is attached."-work around damaged charge port

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

Linda

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

Hi Tech Support Guys,

Call me stupid if you want but I don't know how to solve this.
I have a small home network, which consists of 2 machines. The first one is running w2k server and is acting as a DC. The second one has 3 partitions on the HD. C: has Windows 98 installed, D: is NTFS with win2k Server and is a Member Server in the Network, and F: FAT 32-is running WXP Professional.
I'm trying to set up Account Lockout Policies using MMC(The Group Policy Standalone Snap-in). When I specify that an account will lock after 3(for example) invalid logon attempts in the Account Lockout Threshold policy, it just don't work. When try to log on as any local User Name and type incorrect password three times the account does not lock out.
Or... if I open any local user properties the "Account is locked out" checkbox is shadowed.
Help! Please!

Thanks in advance.

I am doing some work on a friends computer and I need some help diagnosing what the problem is.

It is a SystemMax computer with a Biostar P4M800-M7A mobo and a pentium d processor.

The power supply unit is ruined and I test it with another from mine. The hard drive is good, RAM is ok, I tested both of them in my computer and they run great.

The computer powers up and gets through the grub loader, I select to start Linux Mint and it either freezes, gives me a "cpu temp threshold" error msg or it gives me a "cannot sync" error.

How can I tell if it is the mobo or cpu? I feel like I have done enough trouble shooting to isolate it to either of those but if anyone has any other ideas they are welcome.

A:CPU temp threshold error

try installing windows or Linux on a spare hdd and see if you still get any errors.

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I did a bunch of searching but didn't find an direct answer. I thought I was following all the Windows 10 news. But I am confused. I know Microsoft pulled the 1511 release but then put it back.

After being in the insider program on my Windows 10 test system, I saw that after 10586 (threshold 2) there were no new updates and it seemed ready for prime time. So about a week ago I upgraded my Windows 7 SP1 desktop system. The Microsoft app had been prompting me to update for months. The upgrade went smoothly and my desktop system is running almost perfectly.

My strategy was to wait until threshold 2 (SP1 sort of) was ready before commiting my desktop system to Windows 10. But recently, I noticed that WinVer was showing me on version 10240. What happened to 1511 or Threshold 2. I thought 1511 was what I was supposed to be downloading during the update. Windows update says I am up-to-date and won't update to 1511. After all of searches for an answer, I found lots of discussion about problems in 1511. Maybe I should count my blessings being on 10240.

Please explain what's going on here. Thanks for the help

A:Where is Version 1511 (Threshold 2)

I'm sorry... I think I stumbled on the answer in an older thread. The situation seems to be well documented here in a SoftPedia article:

http://news.softpedia.com/news/how-t...ampaign=buffer
My problem seems to be that it as been only about 7 days since upgrading my desktop system. Microsoft wants me to wait 31 days before it will allow an upgrade to 1511 (threshold 2). I wrongly assumed that 1511 was now the default download for a Windows 10 upgrade. Windows Update seems to be treating1511 like a Windows 7 SP1 upgrade... like a major version update.

I have downloaded the 1511 ISO in case I have to force it come January

At what size CPU would the absolute threshold level be with regards to air cool and water cool in reference to an Intel CPU? I am contemplating on building my computer, but leery of using water cool and was wondering how high I can go with the CPU speed before switching to water cooling.

A:CPU threshold cooling level

I thought it was in relation to temperature level, not so much CPU level

Actually if anyone has a good chart on Temperature (normal) levels, (on different CPUs) please post.

all while missing from my computer , in task manager saw something about some .Net framework doing stuff, some language don't know what optimization, then triggers also the antimalware service, windows update, something called tiworker (windows modules installer) that survived 3 restarts already and also disabling windows update

I do no t want any of that.

What can I do, there are tens , maybe one hundred as far as I know, services. A mire.

Will I be able to still run a windows machine in 2013 with a really bare minimum services?

Does switching to bblean as shell will get rid of many of them? But most surely don't because shell and services two different meals. At least that I will try it to see for myself.

Heres a link with possible solutions, please read it completely as there are several possible fixes, one of which is to install an update and if the update fails to install then CHKDSK may be required to fix a bad sector which is hanging Tiworker.
