Preferred Solution: Finding Date of creation?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Finding Date of creation?

Probably not the RIGHT way to do it, but since you know how to read files, you can output the dir command's results for the file, to a tempfile and then read it.

#include <cstdlib>
system("dir /TC filename.ext > tempfile.ext");

Then the first 10 characters on the 6th line of the temp file will be the created date.

This happens to the Winodws XP Explorer.

Would people out there please explain it to me. And also what I wish to see is the downloaded file creation date which should be identical to the one kept by the hosting web site. Or maybe other ways around

A:Why can Last Modified Date and Creation Date be the same

If I understand what your asking:

Quote:

Why can Last Modified Date and Creation Date be the same

They would be the same, for example. You draw a picture in paint, save it and dont edit it again. When you save it you create the file, and seeing you dont edit it the modfication date and the creation date will be the same.

And also what I wish to see is the downloaded file creation date which should be identical to the one kept by the hosting web site.

I am not sure if that is possible.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 and Word 2010 and had all my documents transferred from my old XP PC. Now in Library/documents the "Arrange by" choice is only "date modified" which for all existing documents was October 5, 2012--i.e., the date of the data transfer. How can I get the documents to be listed by date created ?

A:creation date

Go to My Documents folder, not library. Right click on top bar and checkmark Date Created. Then click on that header to sort by Date Created.

I just reinstalled XP 2 days ago, however tonight I noticed in my system information, almost every of my video and audio codec creation dates are 12/31/79. I've had this happen once before in my codecs but I cannot remember at all why & what I had to do to fix it. Also though, I got to looking and realized not only are my codecs creation dates wrong, but almost EVERY single one of my running tasks, loaded modules, drivers, etc. creation dates that my system information lists are also 12/31/79 too! Any Clue? I dont know what would be the best way for me to correct all of them or how much is it going to affect me. Any Ideas...

My computer crashed, but all of my pictures were backed up. They are in a folder structure based on their creation dates. The problem is that when they were copied to their backup folder, they all got new creation dates and times. How can I set all their creation dates to the date of the folder that each is in?

Also, I want to copy them to an SD card so that I can import them again. How can I do this and still preserve the new dates?

Thanks so much.

Hey guys

I am using Outlook Express 6 and would like to reduce some of the clutter in my contacts list.

I would have thought that there would be a creation date for each contact when they are added to the list.

If there is, I can't seem to find it.

Does anybody know anything about this?

Brian

A:OE6, creation date of a contact?

You are right, it is not there. So just pick some other field and use
it for your purpose. For example "Other."

Or use the birthday field since it already has a possible date entry.
You can also right click on the contact folder columns and include
the birthday field, so it is visible whenever you open that folder.

I use Windows XP Pro. I need to change the date stamp on some image files that recorded the date years early. The digital camera batteries were left out for several days, then when the batteries were installed I did not set the current date, they stayed at the cameras default date.

Windows help file talkes about "file properties" window with tabs, but I only see one tab. Any ieas?

A:changing file creation date

Hi Chas9 !

If you're talking about a date that appears at the bottom of the image then there's nothing you can do, it's part of the image.

If you wish to change the file attribute then there are many freewares on the internet that can do that. A google search found this freeware which should do the trick :
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.html

Else Total Commander (fully fonctionnal 30 days shareware) has many other uses but can do just what you want. Select your files with right-click (or press + then type *.jpg if these are all .jpg files) then go to files => change attributes.

The file system does not maintain any kind of history of date changes. Once the creation date (or any other data) has been changed the original date is lost.

Hi,

I have an issue with the creation/time taken of a particular photo.

On the 13th of October, I took a photo with my mobile at 17:23. When I placed this photo on my computer, the date & time taken, date & time created and date & time modified were all the same and correct, as 13th October 17:23.

Now, on the 1st of November I transferred this photo again from my mobile to my computer and the time created changed to 18:23. (on October 31st we changed to winter hour, and we've set our clock to -1hr).

Can anyone tell me what is going on/wrong and how I can transfer this photo again and get the real values for the date & time taken, date & time created and date & time modified and make sure that they all match the timestamp 13th October 17:23?

Thanks!

Hi guys, I am new here and I would like to clarify a few things.

As the title suggested, is there a way to find the original creation date on a file which has been copied and pasted. Here were the steps I took.

1. Copied documents from PC to external hard drive
2. Deleted documents on PC.
3. Connected ext hd to my laptop and booted up the files
4. Right clicked properties to view the creation date, which shows the current date instead of the original date.

So from what I know, the "date created" is the date which I copied and pasted into the external hard drive, right?

Is there a way to find out the ORIGINAL date created from my laptop? I have since deleted the orignal document from my PC.

Many thanks in advance.

A:How do I find the original date creation on a file?

Hello, if I understand your question correctly, date created is when the file was moved. Odd, however I just tried it myself on my own two partitions. Date modified is when the file was modified/made(assuming no other modifications to the file were made.)

Hello everyone,

This is my first post to the Bleeping Computer community. I am thankful that such a large volunteer effort exists to help with serious computer problems. You are probably appreciated more than you know.

Over the last few months, I've noticed strange filenames in my recent files with 0 kb filesize and no creation date. They appear to be chinese characters but I'm not 100% sure. I tried Google Translate to no avail.

Pic:
http://imgur.com/EuxFdEh

They would appear to be generated by some (malware?) process and subsequently deleted (they are not on the desktop), and are not in the recycle bin. Would this indicate an infection?

This is some of my info:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
Antivirus: Windows Defender, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (nothing found)

I've noted a similar thread to Bleeping Computer that appears to have been solved, but I wanted to create a new topic since I'm sure the different computer environments dictate different strategies. Similar thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/597789/strange-files-in-recent-files-list-files-have-chinese-names-and-zero-byte-size/

Sorry for the wait. To better help you I will need you to do this:Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Right-click FRST then click "Run as administrator" (XP users: click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.Press the Scan button. When finished, it will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool was run from. Please copy and paste the log in your next reply.Note 2: The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory the tool was run from). Please also paste that, along with the FRST.txt into your next reply.Once you post those logs I will need 24 to 48 hours to process them.

Something I discovered tonight...let me explain by example:

I have two files in folder AAA. One is named BBB, with a creation date of 1-1-14. One is named CCC, with a creation date of 8-1-14.

If I delete BBB, and then rename CCC to BBB, then that file's creation date changes from 8-1-14 to 1-1-14, even though the content stays the same as when it was actually created on 8-1-14.

Is this normal? If so, I’ve never noticed before. Also, if it’s normal, what do you think the rationale is, and does this differ from XP? For my purposes this is a useful -- if unexpected -- behavior (I won’t go into *why* I like it unless someone asks).

Thanks.

Hey, I'm new to the forums and I'm not sure how frequent you've been asked this question...

Is there a way to keep a default setting for your folders, like having things viewed in list, viewed in groups and the preview pane being set at a specific size? Every time I exit a folder it resets. Is there anyway around this?

Also my next question can refer to Windows 7 or a free program for Windows 7. My phone/iPod and other programs of that nature list my images by created date. I tried changing the date of photos with a few programs. One problem I've encountered is that it's not sequential. If I have a lot of images in 1 folder and I want them organized by date created, I want them to be changed by alphabetical order. With the first picture being the earliest and the last one being the latest. But most programs just change the folder's images to the same date. And since there's a lot of photos in one folder, it's still the same problem. They're all scrambled, but just by the same date. Any ideas on how to change the creation date of multiple images in alphabetical order without doing one by one?

A:Two Questions: Windows 7 Preview Pane & Changing Photo's Creation Date

set up the folder they way you want it to look folder icon size, window size etc then click organize /folders and search options . click the view tab and then click apply to folders. there are some extra check box options in the list in view tab.
im not sure about the preview pane resizing, i open the preview pane and its the same size i sized it to earlier, i then click the preview button to hide the pane until i need to look closer at a pic or icon etc re opening the pane has it the same size

After installing the convenience rollup KB3125574, robocopy is copying files considering also the creation date of the file. So, when the file exists in the source and in the destination, it will be copied when the modified date is more recent or when the
creation date is more recent. In windows 7 without KB3125574 and in Windows 10 only the last modified date is considered.

sazzra, welcome to the Forum.
I am afraid you are wrong, it is not simple, which is why you are struggling.
I think it can be done with 2 Queries, one to find the first date and then one to ignore the first date and find the second.
However can you be more precise about the date position, when you say the frist date in a series, do you mean the "Earliest date" or the "Latest date" as being "first"?

It seems that file backup software resets the file created date to the date of the backup; in this case the critical files are .CAD (AutoCad) files, and I need to know when the project began. It was several years ago, and I do not recall the backup programs that were used, and old HDs were wiped; recovery attempts indicate - no .CAD files or fragments. Is there a way to find or restore the original file created date...?

A:restoring, or finding. the original 'file created' date

Try right clicking on the file, click on properties, and you should see the create date, as well as the last modify and access dates. This works for many types of files, although I don't know about .cad files. I use Ghost for backup, and it shows the last date modified by me, not the software (right click/properties is not available for the backup file).

If you don't have the file on your computer separate from the backup copy, depending on your backup software, you might be able to restore the file to a different location so as not to overwrite you current copy, then look at its properties.

I wanted to know how valid the Date of Creation is under the properties section of an excel file. I have a situation where a file was sent and was missing some information. So the party sent another email with what appears to be a totally new file. I went to properties and the creation date is just a few days old. I wanted to know if referencing that "Date of Creation" is a valid method of requesting the original document and not one that was just created. The original file was sent to use in 04/21/06 and this shows a creation date of 08/11/06.

thanks,

A:How valid is "Date of Creation"

First off, any kind of time and date stamp on any file is only as reliable as the time and date settings in the computer that generated the file. It is fairly easy for a user to change them in Windows to just about any date and time one wishes to use.

If the original file from 04/21/06 was missing some information, someone could have edited the file on 08/11/06 to add the information and then saved it using a different filename or using the same filename but putting it in a different directory on their computer. In either case, the new file would show a creation date of 08/11/06.

The coin cell battery on the motherboard that keeps time while the system is powered off is probably dead.  Not too surprising given that the D600 is about 15 years old at this point.  If you open the system up, it should be easy to find, so just note the type of battery, e.g. CR2032, and then buy that type of battery at any grocery/convenience store.  Should only be about $2-3.

First the background: We are gradually deploying Office 2007, but not everyone in the agency has it. I have both 2003 and 2007 installed on my system, but I do my work in 2003, and none of our databases have actually been converted to 2007 format (at least, none that I work with). There are occasionally people who use 2007 when viewing databases, but I don't know if any of the people who are working in this particular database are using 2007. The problem is reproducible in 2003 and so I've been trying to fix it here. The query behind the problem report used to work. It has been a problem for several months (it is run monthly, and every month for the past five they've had problems with it) and I've finally gotten to the root of the actual issue.

The purpose of the report is to generate invoice for outstanding loans. The DateNextPayment is a calculated field based on the payment plan for the loan. Greetings, and thanks in advance for your help..

Awhile back I formatted my Windows 10 PCs to show ddd dd-mmm-yyyy on my taskbar clock. This worked happily on my desktop and laptop for months, maybe even a year +

Now (probably starting in the past couple days, if not today), on one of those two PC's, this format will no longer display. It is Okay on the other PC.
What has changed that the taskbar clock space used to expand to fit the "short date" format, but now it will no longer expand - and instead just refuses to display the date at all. (NOTE: I've verified the issue by testing shorter formats -- short formats, like "ddd" show up correctly. Only if you request a longer format will the date not display - evidently because it is too long for the clock area. )

Additional Notes that may help:

* "Working" pc is running build 10586 PC with too small a clock space that won't expand -- Build 14393

*Other differences: Notification/Action center Icon is left of clock on the working PC - Right of clock on the non-working
Right- Clicking on task bar gives "properties" option on working PC -- But "Settings" option on the non-working

( I don't want to prejudice responses - but clearly the implication to me is that some recent OS update is most likely the culprit.)

Thank You

That is very strange. Bump for a possible solution, since I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Hello.
I'd like to see Long Date and Long Time in my System Tray instead of Short Date and Short Time.
But due to some restrictions connected with my work I can not modify Short Date & Short Time to look how I want them to look in System Tray.
So basically I need Windows to show what is set as Long Date & Long Time in System Tray instead of showing Short ones.

Is it possible? Maybe some registry tweaks?

A:How to display Long Date in System Tray (without modifying Short Date)?

Hey guys,
I have a question about coding and setting an excel file to send emails. I am using an excel file to track maintenance work orders and I would like to get an email each day for each work order that is requested to be finished on that days date. I have attached the excel file I am using, and the column that is important is C, "Date Needed" - If that date is today's date, the cell turns red and I would also like to get email notification about it. A separate email for each cell that matches today's date.

Also, if possible, I would like for it to look at all the sheets, not just the current month's sheet. For example, if a work order was filed in July but wasn't needed until September, I would still like to get the email reminding me that it needs to be finished on xx date in September.

I have attached the excel file I want to use.

I have searched all over this forum and others and have found many posts similar to this, but I am not a great manipulator of code, so I cannot get any of the other solutions to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi all,

I'm new to Windows 7 (Home Premium 32-bit) and I just can't figure out what's going on here! Basically I want my short date format to be dd/mm/yyyy (UK format) e.g. 05/11/2010, but when I key a date into Excel 2002 it is appearing as 05 11 2010. In Control Panel I have the short date format set to ddd dd/MM/yyyy and the example is shown as Fri 05/11/2010, but in Excel all the date formats are shown with space separators, e.g. 14 03 2001! I don't think it's an Excel problem though as in Windows Task Scheduler the dates are shown with spaces there e.g. '19:25 on Mon 01 11 2010'. The date by the clock though is shown correctly with slash separators!

I know in Windows XP you can select the date separator from a drop-down list, but this option seems to be absent in Windows 7. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International in the registry, sDate was set to a space, but changing that to a slash (and rebooting) didn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas please what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks
Steven

A:Date format using space as date separator rather than forward slash!

Hi,

The option you're after is controlled from within Excel. If you right-click the cell(s) in question you can select 'format cells' and under 'Date' you can select the desired format.

A:Date format using space as date separator rather than forward slash!

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the post!

When you set the Short date to ddd dd/MM/yyyy, the date by the clock is shown with slash, however, the date in Task Scheduler doesn’t show the slash. This behavior
is by design. When you double click the time and the trigger tab (for example) in task scheduler, the details are shown with slash.

When you change the Short date to dd/MM/yy, the date in the Task Scheduler and the clock become the same.

For the Excel date problems, I recommend you ask this question in

I'm working on a spreadsheet that lists monthly recurring expenses. I have one cell on the sheet listing the current date (using the "=Now()" formula), but I'd like to have the other cells change at certain times throughout the month.

For example, if one cell currently says "April-15", when the actual date reads "April-16", the respective cell would change to "June-15". This way, whenever the spreadsheet is viewed the next recurring payment date will be seen.

I know this is the wrong tool for something like this - I'm using SharePoint at the office with a calendar list with workflows that shoot off emails in a much better put together format - but this is just for home use and I'd like to keep it all in one document if possible.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Excel 2010: Cell Date Change with Current Date

The way I read it was that you have fixed recurring payment dates, so you just want to know the next date based on the day today. Hope the attached might assist.
You need to list the payment dates somewhere and then the formula looks up the next date. You might want to look up today plus 1 (or something) to reflect the fact that if the next payment date is today, there's a good chance you'll not get any unplanned payments on that run.

Ted, what software are you talking about?
Are there always 8 values in the date part?

I'm using internet explorer 11 with windows 10.

As a way to expire cookies, I have set the 'expires=<DATE>' to a point in the past.

When I tested

The following formats are not supported. (Cookie was not removed.)

Set-Cookie: expires=Wed, 01-Jan-70 00:00:00 GMT
However, the following formats are supported. (Cookie was removed.)

Set-Cookie: expires=Wed, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT
I confirmed that the former was rfc850 and the latter was rfc1123.

I wonder if there is an official document or reference for this result.
