Preferred Solution: Audio goes mute, IE popups w/ sounds every few sec

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Good evening. Please don't post logs using the Quote tags, or any others for that matter - it doesn't make the information any easier to read.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Please download MBRCheck.exe by a_d_13 from here and save it to your Desktop. Double click the file to begin the scan. A Command Window will open and after the scan has completed you will be prompted to select further action - please exit in the stated manner. A text file called MBRCheck_date/time.txt can be found on the Desktop. I'd like you to post the contents in your next reply.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Download Preformat.zip from here and save it to your Desktop. You will need to extract the file.Right click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...In the 'Extraction Wizard' window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again. In the final window, click on FinishYou should now see a folder with a .vbs file in it. Double click Preformat.vbs to run it and a text file called Preformat.txt should be created in the same folder - either that or you'll get an error message. Please copy and paste the contents of the text file into your next reply and then you can delete both of the folders and their contents.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Can you tell me the make and model of the computer and also whether or not you have the Windows installation disc that some PCs come with.

Hi.

I've been hearing Internet Explorer Navigation clicks and streaming audio. The audio is "Congratulations, You/You've Won" or audio from a commercial maybe.

I don't use IE except for Microsoft Update or once in a blue moon when something doesn't work in Firefox.

Also seen a couple IE popups, but iexplore.exe doesn't show up in Processes.

I use dialup, and browsing slows up sometimes.

Couple scans found the following (besides a lot of cookies):

I find System Sounds does not stay at 0 volume or muted, with one exception: when volume mixer is open.

When I close the volume mixer and open a program that requires UAC, the chime is at "full" volume of selected device's volume setting.

As examples, Piriform's CCleaner and Revo's Uninstaller chime and reset the volume to "full" while Auslogics' Disk Defrag does not reset the volume but nevertheless chimes.

Is this a lost cause?

A:How to keep System Sounds at 0 volume or mute?

If you don't want any sounds, pick the "No Sounds" Sound Scheme.

Hi,This is my first post, which is of course about some suspected malware. I'm not so sure how it started but I'm having the same problem as a few people on this forum. Probably some sketchy website I visited, they say curiosity killed the cat but it also messed up the computer. The sound just randomly shut off. When I started looking at what was the problem I noticed that on the volume control panel the wave volume was muted. I fixed the volume but after a few minutes it will mute itself again. Another odd thing was that although I usually use Firefox, I keep getting IE pop-ups showing an HTTP 404 page. When I looked at Task Manager it shows iexplorer.exe running. If I try to end the process, it will restart in about 10-30 seconds. Oh, and it's being run by SYSTEM instead of Owner like normal IE. Thanks,PeachyMei

As in another fellow member, i have the same problem. This is my first post, which is of course about some suspected malware. Oh, and it's being run by SYSTEM instead of Owner like normal IE.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Administrator at 3:03:53.31 on Sun 07/11/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1006.262 [GMT -7:00]AV: avast! Hi,
i have some problems since maybe 4 days now with my computer.

Some sounds are randomly heard now and then, some kind of clicking sounds.
Now and then (I'd say every hour) a full screen pop-up of a random advertisement appear
In Task Manager I have severals (4) Iexplore.exe process running, when stopped they restart and they are eating some of my computer speed.
I can't search from my toolbar in Google chrome...
REALLY ANNOYING. In Volume Control, WAVE is going down by itself every 20 minutes or so. Muting sounds from my computer
Spybot Seach and Destroy says nothing bad is there. but for some reason it was writen down next to :1200 000 000 /125 000 000 000 (when it was searching) : virtumonde.sdn
Avast said a virus was found, he called it .WIN32:Unruy-J [Drp] (I don't know if it was good or not but I deleted it. which didn't change anything in those problems above
There are a lot of process in taskmanager that I have no idea what they are for.

I am afraid for the followings

Worry to lose info on my PC.
Worry to send virus to friends.
Worry that this thing is going on paying sites while i don't want to pay for that thing...
Worry for my privacy.(bank accounts, emails etc)

System: Windows XP Professional, Audigy 2 ZS

My system audio mute is turning on and off over and over at random intervals as short as a second or two, long as 5 or 10 minutes. Things I have tried:

1) Updated sound device driver
2) Replaced keyboard
3) Uninstalled program that was added around the time this began
4) Bought and ran registry cleaner
5) System Restore
6) Ruled out applications as the cause (happens in all apps)

This system has run fine for several months, almost every component is brand new, and there have been no system or hardware changes in the timeframe where this has been happening.

Thanks for your help

I am using my computers recorder to record audio that comes out of the speakers. It is a rather long recording. In order to be sure the volume of the recording is loud enough, the speakers need to be turned way up.

Is there a way to not hear it on the outside? Because there are other people around and they don't want to hear it.

Thanks for any help.

Just a thought: If I plug headphones into my computer would that do the trick?

I've looked at other questions on this but can't seem to figure out how to get rid of this *@#$ virus/vulnerability. I would really appreciate some help.

I am on a Dell Latitude D620, running XP and generally use Firefox for browsing. I have MacAfee installed and running but it finds no problems. I have installed and run Spybot, Adware, and Safe Returner, removing some bugs but the problem persists.

This is a home computer I sometimes use to log into work so am stuck using MacAfee and MS 2007 for compatibility. The unit runs VERY slow and I would love to know what I can delete and increase speed.

I am not a real techie but an engineer and can generally follow directions pretty well.

IT appears from the forum most efforts at debugging start with HJT so I downloaded and ran it. Below is the log. Please advise next steps. Thanks.

My computer is a couple years old, but everything was working just fine, audio included. I was watching a video and talking on AIM and everything just randomly went mute. Device manager shows no issues, speaker volume is still at 100, green volume indicator shows activity. I thought it was an issue with the AIM program, but since a reboot fixed nothing, I'm not so sure.

Here's what I have tried so far:
Rebooting
Uninstalling and reinstalling:
- latest drivers from Realtek site
- drivers for my motherbord from Asus site
Unplugging and replugging every audio related plug on the computer (orange/green/black on the back, and all cables from the sub)
Setting either Speakers or Digital Output to default. Neither made a difference.

No luck.

So, here's my system specs:
Asus P6T MB with ALC1200 Realtek HD Audio
Creative 5.1 speakers, really old and I forget if they had a name or model number.
I do not have a keyboard with volume control buttons or any of that.

ok, I just found out why it's sounding thin is because it was recording through the mic head set. Now I disabled the headset but still on the recorder the source device on the drop down option for recording device it is not listed.

A:Audio Mid Recorder audio sounds thin and fraily

I thought that this was disable to plug the analog hole, so that people could not record what they are hearing from their sound card...basically going around copy protection.

I think they started it with Vista, I could be wrong.

Dear Support! I upgraded my probook from win 8.1 to win 10 home and i have a few problems in relation with the audio. 1. In win 8.1 the audio driver has a dts+ software (if i remember good for the name) which can optimize the sound with effects and eq etc. The notebook sounds good with this but in windows 10 i can get this and the quality of the sound is much worse. In addition in the device manager on win 8.1 the audio card names as IDT High Definiton audio but in win 10 it is "High Definition Audio Device". I don't know whethet that matters. (also has an amd high definition audio device, but if i know good its the hdmi audio) So I want to ask how can i get this to win10. 2. The audio mute button in win 10 doesnt change color -the wifi button does it- from white to orange if there is a change. The funcionality is working so it mutes the sound. So i would like to get some solutions about that, i tried to download drivers from hp support but i didnt see anything for this. Thank you for your answers, Akos ConfigHP Probook 455 G1 with AMD A10-5750M APU

Hey,

For quite a while now i've been using a pair of USB Speakers.
I had it set so my games came out my speakers and my Team speak Voice chat came through my headset.
I recently decided to swap back to my Creative speakers, but now i have an issue.

When i plug my speakers and headphones in the Realtek HD Audio Manager is only detecting one device. (Muting my speakers when my headphones are plugged in) I've managed to get them both working at the same time but due to the fact it's only detecting one of them i can't organize / change which programs use which.

I remember at one point in the past when using these that i selected ''Mute rear speakers when front pannel is in use'' but now i can't seem to find this option?

I've looked at a few forums that say ''Go into Device advanced settings'' and even seen a screen shot of someone pointing out that it's at the top right on the Realtek HD Audio Manager, but on mine that option is not there and nor can i find it!

Any and all help would be lovely! Thanks <3

Attached is a screen shot of what my Realtek HD Audio Manager looks like with BOTH Headphones and Speakers connected.

A:Realtek HD Audio Manager ''Mute Rear Speakers'' HELP

My RealTek HD manager has a "Device Advanced Settings" option which allows how the headphone/speakers act. Yours does not appear to have this option. Some Vendors include this and others do not, and using the generic RealTek sound drivers instead of the PC Vendor (or motherboard on a custom built system) drivers does not always work or work correctly.

Using USB audio devices is a separate function and the reason it worked with the USB device.

My RealTek Manager:

Hello @peace4q1, Welcome back to the Support Forum Community! I read all of your posts on the HP Support Forums and wanted to reach out to help you! I understand you are having issues with the audio software/settings being lost on your Pavilion dv7 notebook When was the software last working correctly for you? What led you to reinstall it? When you reinstalled the software did you use the recovery manager? To begin with you will want to make sure all of your drivers for your notebook are up to date. I have found this document has quite detailed troubleshooting for various audio driver or software issues. Please get back to me how this goes. Hi, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed,... I think I may have found the source of the strange "Congratulations you've won X" sounds that just come out of my computer without a pop-up There are also phantom clicking sounds which I believe come from a process calles, "l78Yv26a.exe" When I close this process the phantom sounds stop for about 2-3 hours and then the process will run again and the sounds will start all over again.

I have no clue as to where the pop ups are coming fro but they are very rare and hardly ever occur.

I run a Dell Inspiron E1505 and of late I have been experiencing some very strange problems. I hear in the background a *click* much like the sound internet explorer makes when a new link is clicked, I am also experiencing strange audio advertisements as well as popups when I am not logged into internet explorer OR firefox. I assume this is some sort of adware or spyware but I have run spybot, malware AND Ad-Aware and deleted any problematic files to no avail. This issue is not fatal (so far as I can tell) but very irritating and makes me nervous - My antivirus (Symantec) has been finding many trojan files and deleting them but again, this happens and nothing changes - I still get popups and a voice telling me I've been selected to win a free bla-bla-bla-bla. Please help me if you can!

A:Strange Sounds/Popups

G'Day RSJ0316, Welcome to TSF!

By the sound of your description, you have a serious malware/spyware infection that has 'hijacked' your computer.
The solution to this will require alot of patience and perseverance by you.

Please read this article… "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.
(Please change the new Thread Subscription to “Instant Email Notification” so that you receive an email as soon as a reply is posted,)

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Kind Regards,
