Internet Explorer cookie problem

Q: Internet Explorer cookie problem

I'm running Win98 with IE 6. For the past week or so, when I log on to emusic.com the next page (after the login page) shows nothing but code. I cut and pasted it and sent it to their help person, and she said it looked like it's posting my cookie information to the page. She gave me a few things to try, such as, deleting my cookies, checking my security settings, etc. I tried everything she suggested, but it didn't fix the problem. The only change I've made that I can think might have started this was downloading the latest security patches from Microsoft's Windows Update page.

Here's part of what appears on the page:

!HTTP/1.0 302 Moved Date: Sun, 13 Oct 2002 19:29:52 GMT Server:

Any input/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Why do I have a cookie problem only when trying to log on to eBay? It keeps telling me that "this computer is not accepting cookies". This is the only site that does this. If I change my password and then try to log on - it accepts it! Are there any settings that I can change to solve this?

The Login screen appears, they login. All is Fine.

Try to Login Again and just get a white screen.
I determined the issue is caused by a cookie the website drops into IE Temporary Folder.
As I delete that cookie and the login screen again appears and they can login, but process repeats when they logout.
I searched the Internet and found the following batch file that will delete all cookies....
@echo off
set Cookies=C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\
del /q /s /f "%Cookies%"

How do I change it to just delete 1 Cookie?
The cookie would be:

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Windows 7 ultima and it has IE8 with it, when i had vista running (IE7) i could save the cookies for sites i visited all the time in the allow part of ccleaner, so every time i clicked hotmail, lets say, i would log straight in.

Now, i have done the same for IE8 except even though ccleaner has saved the cookies i have allowed, IE8 never remembers my log in details so i have to log in to about 8 different sites everytime i shut down/switch on.
Where do i set this option up in IE8 please ?

thanks so much for reading and for anyhelp.

A:Explorer 8 cookie saves?

Under internet options then under privacy then advance. Pretty much the same as prior IE. There are some new security features though. You need to read though what you want to use in IE8. Or just use Firefox or even test that out with what your doing. Make sure you got the latest Ccleaner. You may also want to try instead of Ccleaner is Fcleaner.

Had the AV Security Suite virus and tried to remove it using Malwarebytes, AVG (Free Version) and Ad-Aware. Things seemed good because I was able to connect to the internet again and didn't have the annoying pop-ups associated with this virus but obviously all wasn't that good after all.

Whether I use Internet Explorer (8.0) or Safari to browse.. if I tried to click on recommended links in the search results it would redirect me in both browsers. Very annoying. Also.. if I clicked on a link thru an email in my Outlook Express - it would not open.

Then Internet Explorer wouldn't open anymore either!!! So I'm done trying to fix this. I need the pros at Bleeping Computer now more than ever...

Obviously I've heard about Combofix but have not run because of recommendations not to do so without supervision.

Thanks in advance!

A:Internet redirect problem in Internet Explorer & Safari !

I had a guy come to me with that virus the other day. I wasnt able to even boot up or load/update MBam as it wasnt allowing it to connect to the servers (so it was worthless for now). I eventually had to boot into an UBCD, ran Superantispyware which found about 65 entries. I then rebooted and tried safemode which worked. I was able to scan with Mbam (and update it) which found the files associated with AV security suite and the problem was all gone.

So I guess I would suggest running SAS and see if that finds anything, if anyone else has better advice feel free to correct me, thats just what I used to get rid of it.

Hope you get rid of it, its an annoying one (not as annoying as Virus:Win32/Alureon.H which another guy got..that was nasty)

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Internet Explorer where it cant connect to any webpage at all.
I have tried to troubleshoot the problem but the troubleshooter says that it cannot find the problem. It works when i start it up in no addons mode but even if i disable all the addons that i could find in manage addons it still doesn't work unless i use no addon mode.

No other computer has this problem other than me so it's not a problem with the router, but i can also use other browsers just fine with no problems.

I tried multiple attempts at solution trying to fix this such as:
ipconfig release,renew and flushdns
the two netsh command that, i think, flush the ipv4 and some other connection
disabling all addons in Internet explorer
reseting all internet explorer settings
checking if Proxy settings are accidentally enabled
Using antivirus + antimalware + antispyware to check for viruses(though i do think it is a virus)
Uninstalling and reinstalling Internet Explorer
System restore is out of the question because it doesnt have a restore point before this occured
-------------
If it helps, i had a "strain" of a computer virus named [email protected] + "Mutations" of that virus in the same folder and it seemed to have happened a couple days after i had gotten rid of it using help from my anti-virus's support team, i'm in the 7th step of fully removing it. I also did SFC /Scannow in cmd so i can post it if i need to.

Hi, this is my first post here. We got a new computer a few months ago, one with Windows XP. My son, who has his own laptop, set me up as the Administrator. My husband, who thinks he knows a lot about computers, but DOES NOT, has been entering the Temporary Internet file, and Cookie file, and deleting things without I imagine, even completely understanding what he is doing. The other night, he deleted some things while my 16 year old daughter was in the room, and she tried to get him to stop because she said , although she couldn't see the whole thing, a box popped up that said removing this might be harmful to the computer. My husband still removed it, telling her he "Knew what he was doing." The next day, I had numerous problems with the computer, including an inability to get a dial up connection, once I did get one, I could not get a lot of our pages to open, and several other things. My son ran Ad Aware, Spybot, and Clean Up, in case we had gotten something on the computer, but it didn't help, and he had to do a Systems Restore. My daughter then told us that my husband had been removing things from the computer. My son said to check here, and see if there was anyway I could add those files to the ones that only the Administrator could tinker with. A friend of his online last night said for me to just drag those items into my Administrator files, but my son was not sure if this would work, and doesn't want us to screw around with the files if it wasn't ... A:Can I password protect the Temporary Internet files and the Cookie file?

My, you do seem to be having problems. The answer to your question is that you can only protect folders that are in your user profile. Folders such as Internet Temporary Files and Cookies are common folders and therefore accessible to anyone. However, deleting files from these folders is unlikely to cause the problems you describe. I routinely clear out my temp files and cookies. It just means that for those websites where, for example, passwords are needed, you will have to re-enter them rather than it being done automatically, but it wouldn't stop access to sites. It's more likely that system or program files are being altered or deleted. If your husband is a restricted user, he shouldn't be able to alter these. If you've got problems with your computer you can try doing a system restore. Do you know how to do this?

3 computers in the house, 2 desktops and one laptop. All of them primarily use IE8. Both desktops have no problems. Sites that require a login stay logged in. The laptop however will at times keep all sites logged in for a week (though infrequent) but most often it is only a few days and sometimes will drop all logins multiple times a day often while surfing. The laptop has not programs that are not shared with at least one if not both of the other computers. All the settings I can think of in the browser, antivirus, firewall are the same across the computers.
Can anybody think why I should frequently be losing cookies and be getting logged out of all my sites on the laptop? I'm stumped now.

I've seen similar posts and tried the usual fixes (delete individual cookies, delete cookies and cache through "Clear all private data") and the problem persists: some sites just won't stay logged in, others won't even log me in to start with. The prescribed "fix" works for a while, but then breaks again.

The latter manifested itself with Gmail today, where I would use my proper login but it would go right back to the login prompt. I used "Clear all private data" per Gmail support and that fixed that, but now I have the same thing going on with another site.

I'm sure deleting the cookie for that site will fix it again (it has before) but there's got to be a more permanent fix, as this is happening regularly since upgrading to FF3.

Edit: d-oh! And it just happened with TSG!!

A:Is it a cookie problem?

Have you unchecked always allow per session cookies? If this is set, then it will keep the cookie and then discard it after the session closes.

Some Browsers use your email address for anonymous ftp logons. IE 6 doesn't but some earlier versions did. I set my IE to always prompt me if the site asks for a password for ftp.

It could also just be a coincidence that you got an email hawking that product.

Hi guys, have had this problem for 3 or 4 weeks now and it's driving me nuts, any help would be much appreciated

XP Home, SP3

My PC no longer remembers my website logins (despite ticking the 'remember me' boxes), google no longer remembers my preferences and when I start a browsing session (after a reboot), I get a 'your last browsing session finished unexpecedly would you like to go back to the page you were using or go to your homepage' message desdpite shutting down my PC in a normal manner

I use IE8 mainly and occasionaly Firefox, but the problem occurs with both. On the tools>internet> privacy (and security) tab - i don't have any cookie management options (where is says things like 'allow per-session cookies' or 'allow cookies to be stored on this PC') - I don't know if they have simply disappeared or whether they are no longer there anyway on recent microsift updates

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the following but with no luck: IE8 (went back to IE7 for a while), Firefox, Java (removed all old java files with JavaRa) and have run a few reg cleaners, trojan removers and usual spyware progs (Adaware, Spybot)

I've also gone into the advanced tab in internet options and tried to overide automatic cookie handling, but those options aren't saved either

The following was originally posted in "business applications" and with help it has been determined not to be an Office XP problem;

Hi,
Here is an interesting problem. Last weekend, I installed Office XP. I then received two updates from MS; one for IE security and one for Office XP.
I then went to my fav. site and an interesting issue has come up. I should mention that in between, I also updated "the Cleaner" from Moosoft. At my favourite site, where it usually says," you are not logged in, please log in or register", it then said, "hello undefined (log out)" as if I had never logged out.
Also my user name there is NOT "undefined". After a lot of tinkering with my privacy settings and much scanning, I have determined that the problem lies in the site cookies that I must accept. If I don't accept the cookies I can't access the site. I discovered that if I click on a feature, I will be asked to log in then but when I log out, mr. "undefined" returns. This only happens on this web site. All other functions seem to be normal and I've scanned both online and off with about five different products all separately. All updated and all came out clean. If I clear all cookies before leaving the site then everything is normal but of course , when I return, I'm starting fresh each time and lose all the previous visit info.

Hello -

I hate to give you a runaround, but I have my doubts about a cookie issue like that being malware related. I would ask back in Windows section, or in Internet Explorer subforum.

That said, you would need to post logs as indicated in the link provided by Speedster if you want help in this section of the forum. We work from logs as well as issue description.

HijackThis is woefully inadequate for many of today's infections. We don't use it as our initial analysis tool.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

Hi, I had a hotmail question. Recently, I have been having trouble getting hotmail to remember my password (I like to have hotmail "remember" me and automatically log me in). At first I thought it was a hotmail problem, but my mother mentioned it's happening to her too, and now I'm thinking it might have something to do with the SpywareBlaster I installed on both computers. Is it a hotmail problem, or is SpywareBlaster blocking it from making a cookie? If it's SpywareBlaster, what can I disable to get hotmail to keep me logged in?

Thanks in advance for any help

I am using NAV and I'm not able to remove some tracking cookies. When I select "fix", it shows me that the problems were fixed, but if I re-run NAV, they're still present. I have tried turning off system restore and running NAV, but the results are the same. The cookies are: atmdt, realmedia, questionmarket, doubleclick, and one un-named cookie. I realize that these probably aren't too much of a risk, but they're a nuisance and I would like to get them removed

Some of those can be associated by sideline ads on some sites. Let's do this...Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. alternate download link DO NOT use yet. any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from

unzip into the program's folder.)Under the "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under

I'm not sure what's going on with my computer, but my cookies will not save to my computer anymore. Everytime I shut off my computer, the disappear and that didn't usually happen until recently when I ran my Norton Antivirus, but it may be some other problem that I'm not sure of. I checked my internet options, but I'm just not sure what's the problem or what's wrong.

Can someone help me?

hi
Several websites I visit daily are not saving my information.
I use Firefox 3 and Vista Premiun with SP1
This problem just recently, and I have uninstalled all recent downloaded programs, and cleaned the registry.
In the browser, it states that I will accept all cookies, and there are no exceptions checked
One of my regular sites emailed me that perhaps my cookies are being washed by some program that has a cookie washer in it
May I kindly ask how can I find this 'cookie washer'?
and, do you think that that may be the problem
thanks
peter

I've been having this time for quite some time with both of the browers. I mainly use Firefox though. It's just this little but absolutely annoying problem that occur on many sites, like here for example. On many sites where I've got an account to a forum, when I log in, everything's ok. But when I click for example a thread link or something, I'm suddenly logged out. This usually occurs after one or two clicks. So I have to keep logging in again and again on some forums to get even to post any reply, or to access some restricted forum areas that would be only available to registered members or so. It has helped on some sites accepting the option "Remember Me", but still that hasn't been totally able to make the problem go away. It helps though not to need login all over again, just go "back" and click it again. Then again other sites it hasn't helped. This mostly for different kind of PHP forums. Then for my Yahoo!Mail account, I occasionally get a "Cookie expired" error, again even if I had just logged in. It helps though just to click "Back" again. But then when I try to login to my hotmail account.. I dunno what's up with it, but I've got more chance to win in the lottery, than to get to see the mail there on this PC. I write my login & pass, click OK, but what, I'm most of the time back in the login page. It still sometimes takes me to the mail, but when I try to open my inbox, I get the same all over again , back in the lo... Read more

Hi,

For the last few days my PC has been loosing the cookie for my ISPs homepage when re-starting or coming out of hibernation. This happens with both IE8 and Firefox. I have contacted Trend Micro support but so far none of their solutions have been effective. They have also analysed a Hijackthis log and concluded there was nothing sinister going on.

This only happens to the Optus (my ISP) cookie, but Optus are denying any problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

Rob.

I'm using Internet Explorer 6 on WindowsXP and my cookies won't keep me logged into anything.

I've deleted all my cookies and internet files, reset my internet settings and turned my secruity all the way down to low and privacy settings down to low as well. Is there anything else I can reset? I disabled Norton AntiVirus 2002 and I don't have any software firewalls running.

I'm on a network and I have a linksys router. I don't think that has anything to do with it though. Is there a way to uninstall IE6 or reinstall it on Windows XP? Maybe if I could reinstall it, it would reset everything and work.

I finally just reformated my computer last night and now when I have the date set to the 18th all my cookies work except for perl based things like UBB and YaBB forums, but when I have the date set to the 19th none of my cookies work. I tried to set the date to the 19th, delete all my cookies, restart and they still didn't work.
I have all my internet security and privacy settings to low. I haven't even installed my Anti-Virus yet, so it's not that and I don't think it's my firewall either. This is so weird..

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

Does it work with all your settings set to default?
You may have to turn the cookies security to OFF, Ive noticed trouble similar to what you've explained, and I just turned it off, (set to accept all cookies) then I just empty the temp folder after each session.
