I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

No sound?

Try the simple things first. Speakers on and working? Plug them into a MP3 player, test that they actually amplify. Speaker plug in the correct socket in the PC? ( I mean not the Mic socket?) Have you looked in 'Device Manager' for a yellow warning by the entry for your sound option? Assume you know all the above, it's most likely still to be the wrong drivers. Go into 'Device Manager' and uninstall any sound drivers. Then go to www.drivereasy.com and download their free program, scan your PC and you will get the right driver I would think. You might also find a few other drivers out of date too. And NO it doesn't cost you to use that program. Hope this helps.

I don't know what's wrong with this.I have no sound for anything. and even when I try to stream videos in the internet, the video automatically pauses for about every 12 seconds.

I don't know what to do but I think you guys can help me.
I also have a Realtek AC'97 audio for VIA(R) audio controller. I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3. My motherboard is VIA VT8237R plus.

I'm having the same problem:
Device cannot start( code 10)

I also tried to install that vinyl_v700b
but every time the installation starts, my conputer tends to restart. That's why I can't install that one.
what's wrong? Can you guys please tell me what to do?
thnx. I cant really watch videos nor play music files.

Thanks again.

A:Realtek AC'97 audio controller not working -- error (code 10)

Apart from the audio driver, it is critical to have the right chipset driver installed. The VIA southbridge needs to work properly to interface with the vinyl audio processor.
So try installing the chipset driver first, and then the audio driver. And of course make sure all MS updates are installed, including the MS UAA driver.

I'm running windows 10 on an HP Omen and after most recent windows update, my computers internal speakers are unavailable, as are any wired connected audio devices. Sound icon says no speakers or headphones are plugged in. Device manager, under sound, video, and game controllers does not show realtek HD audio. This only appears when I go to view and select show hidden devices. Then, under properties, I can see Code 45 (hardware device not connected. To fix, reconnect). I have attempted driver fixes including driver version Troubleshooters for audio detected nothing. I have tried rolling back the windows update.

I cannot find any sites that recommend steps beyond checking driver for the device. I've also tried calling HP tech support twice, and both times representatives told me they needed more time to find a solution (which they have failed to do).

Anyone who has dealt with this issue or has thoughts, any advice appreciated.

Hey guys! This is my first post and I hope I can get some help!
A few days ago, I set up my desktop and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro. Of course, I had to get all my drivers manually, and I did. Everything was all fine and dandy until I realised that I had no sound. so searching I went until I found the driver I needed: Realtek AC'97 Audio. So I restarted and figured I would have sound. That was not the case. So I went into Device Manager and found a black exclaimation mark in a yellow bubble on my sound driver. I right-clicked it and went to "Properties". In the text box it said: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"! I cannot seem to fix this issue! I went to RealTek and downloaded them. I went to Asus but could not find the drivers for my model (I am not 100% certain but I think I have a Pundit-S)

Hope someone can help me out with my audio problems...

I have an ASUS A54C laptop less than a month old.
-Windows 7, service pack 1.
64 bit.

About a week ago Asus live update automatically installed some updates (I didn't realise I could disable auto update, still getting used to this laptop)
when it restarted a few errors kept popping up and the webcam was not working. After googling I came across forum posts saying you have to manually download the drivers from the website. After doing that the webcam software showed a message "no audio device found" I thought ok, no problem I'll just re-install the audio driver (I had done this a few weeks previously because the built in mic was acting up).

The first half of installation completed, laptop restarted but then gave me the following error when trying to complete the second half:

Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!
[Error Code: 0x00000002]

Things I've already tried:
-I have tried several times to install the audio driver
-Tried installing different versions
- downloading directly from realtek
-System restore a couple times but it failed.
-Updated the BIOS (although I have no idea what this actually does)

I don't know what else to do.
Please help!

A:Realtek HD Audio (Code 10)

What do you show in the Device Manager, Sound section?
Post a Screenshot of that.

Code 10 can be driver or can be some other hardware issue.
In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek and then LEFT click "Uninstall" ALSO check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC. If there are no hardware problems or conflicts, when Windows starts it will detect and and install the generic, basic function, "High Definition Audio Codec" for the sound driver. If this is installed, check to see if you have sound, and if the Speakers (High Definiton Audio Codec) is set as the default Audio playback device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound, Playback section.

If this works, you can consider reinstalling the RealTek drivers. Where did you get the drivers you have now?

I do not know what happened. It just suddenly stopped working one day and now the sound icon in the toolbar has a red "X" on it. When I click on it it runs a trouble shoot which eventually comes up with "ATI High Definition Audio Device has a driver problem." I have tried to go to Realtek and download the "ATI HDMI Audio Device" and run that but it hasn't worked. I also tried to do the driver only download from the website for Windows 7 but that didn't seem to work either. I eventually received a message that stated "Install Realtek HD Audio Diver Failure !! Hey hello everyone, I am new member here. I already checked couple threads with this same title, but I didn't really find any solution.

Here's a thing. Yesterday I went to clean my computer for dust, so I opened case and unplugged all wires. Now everything is backup except there is no sound. In device manager I got that yellow/black '!' next to Realtek AC3'97 Audio. I reinstalled drivers couple times already, but nothing. I mean, I was just cleaning dust...

So I came up with that idea that it might be the problem with the front panel pins, which I probably connected in wrong ways. I don't even know in which way those pins should be facing when connecting. So the motherboard is Asus A8N5X (from 2005, yea old), computer runs on Windows XP SP3. I tried many combinations with those pins, but nothing. I get that yellow/black '!' next to device or I get nothing at all (it won't show the device at all).

I tried reading the manual, but the wire names are different on the actual wires than shown in the manual:

And the names on wires are:

GND (black wire)
GND (black wire)
Mic Bias (yellow)
Mic In (green)
Spkout L (red)
Spkout L (red)
Spkout R (white)
Spkout R (white)

As you can see names duplicates. So I tried various combinations, but nothing. Once looked like I fixed it, after loading Windows up, there was sound icon in the tray, but PC suddenly restarted and next time there was no audio again.

Like I said I unplugged all wires befo... Read more

Recently, I installed this Windows XP Professional SP2 on my comp. Once done, I am not been able to install my audio drivers for Realtek High Definition Audio. I couldn't understand what the problem is. Before, they were working fine, now since I had re-installed the Windows again, the whole thing came into being. I had done reinstalling the Windows several times now.

The drivers for the device are installed. But it says the device cannot start.[Code 10].

I had done loads of things, such as :

1. Reinstalling the drivers after uninstalling the same.
2. Rebooting as appropriate.
3. Surf through different sites to check, what best I can do, to tackle the whole thing. But nothing so far.

Hopefully someone be able to tell me, what to do.....

I need my sound back, as my work is completely hung up without it.....

The hard drive was replaced and the operating system reinstalled a couple months ago, and ever since then it hasn't been able to play sound. Under the Device Manager, Realtek AC'97 Audio has a yellow exclamation point next to it, and under its Device Status it reads "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, as well as downloading the most recent driver (the most recent I could find was 4.04), but to no avail. I'm not sure what else I can do at this point.

I have a self-assembled desktop PC - full specs in the signature below, but in short, it has an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor on a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P mainboard, which uses a Realtek Azalia ALC887 on-board sound system. I have no loudspeakers and listen to the computer sound exclusively through a Microsoft LX-1000 headset. I also have a Logitech C270 HD webcam that has its own microphone. My PC has 16 GB RAM, a SSD and a large HDD. It runs Windows 8.1 Update 1 with all Windows updates (Patch Tuesday was this week, but my problems had started before that and I'm sure they're unrelated).

Everything is working fine, except the audio, which started behaving strangely a few days ago. The problems started suddenly and I can't think of anything that could have caused them. There were no hardware changes or any intervention in the hardware, nor did I install any new software that could have messed up things.

When playing music, it sounds muffled, with the volume very low and the voice and several instruments muted, while other instruments in the background arrangement sound louder. No graphic equalizer is on, and this happens with any player software (Windows Media Player, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc.), and any source (MP3 music, audio CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.). There appears to be no hardware problem with either my headset or the onboard audio: when I run both Windows' native and Realtek's driver sound output tests, the test tune comes out loud and clear in the tested chann... A:Realtek audio, Gigabyte mobo: strange-sounding audio, mic not working

First thing to do is disable or disconnect the Web Cam. They have been known to cause various sound problems. It may not be the problem, but eliminate it as the problem.

Stereo Mix needs to be set as the Default Recording Device.

Refresh the RealTek by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. This usually fixes any Windows/Sound corruptions. If this does not fix it, download and reinstall the RealTek sound drivers.

Hi. I run XP and I'm having really frustrating problems with code 12. I've only just found out that it was my system and not the actual drive, I even bought a brand new DVD drive before I checked this out just to make sure.

I go into device manager and next to primary and secondary IDE drives and it shows an exclamation mark. I double click and it says...

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

How do I fix this? Is it just a case of disabling something? I'm really confused as to what caused this because I've not made any changes recently.

I have a newer Gigabyte board w/ Realtek HD Audio. I just plugged my subwoofer into the center/sub output jack but it isn't working.

When I try this on my laptop (plugging the 3.5 to rca cable into the headphone jack) the sub works as it should.

Realtek HD Audio Manager "sees" that the sub is plugged in, and that port had been checked off (within the manager) for center/subwoofer.

I also tried 5.1 mode because it allows the sub to be selected as an optional speaker. When I did that and then played the Realtek test tune the sub did work. However, if I go use youtube or play an audio track with Media Player Classic - no sub.

Ok, so I got a bunch of viruses the other day and had to go through a bunch of nonsense to get rid of them. I eventually fixed it and got back onto my desktop. Now my audio is not working.

When I check whats going on in the Device Manager it shows two things. First, it has "RealTek High Definition Audio" with a yellow ballon with an exclamation point in it, and "ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATA AA01" also with a yellow balloon and exclamation point.

I have tried uninstalling the RealTek Audio and re-installing with no change. There also dont seem to be any newer drivers for either of these things. I go into the RealTek folder in program files and it has an audio folder and then just an installshield folder. There are actual icons to start the RealTek Audio control panel but they will not start.

When I check these devices out in properties it says

A:Realtek audio not working after win 8.1 pro

Some sound drivers need to be updated to Win 8.1 specific drivers. The Win 7 drivers work OK with Win 8, but not Win 8.1. I even had that problem with one of my recording studio interfaces and Roland had to issue a special Win 8.1 driver for it to work.

According to what I see on the MSI site, this has RealTek integrated audio. If this is the case, RealTek has an 8.1 driver.
Download the High Definition Audio Codecs, 64 bit version. Realtek

You may or may not have to reinstall the SoundBlaster MB software enhancement software after the driver update.

Hi. I'm using 64 bit Windows, and I'm having an issue.

Applications that are 64 bit seem to play sounds fine. Browsers, some games, etc. 32 bit applications, on the other hand, don't detect a sound device. Winamp, for example, gives a "bad directsound driver" error.

DxDiag continues the problem. The 32 bit version doesn't detect a sound card, but the 64 bit version shows no problems.

I've tried updating the realtek drivers a few times. Tried cleaning beforehand or letting the installer do it. No dice.

Any bright ideas? I've attached both dxdiag outputs. Thanks.

Motherboard is a GA-P67A-UD4-B3.

A:Realtek audio working for 64 bit, but not 32?

Hi! however, welcome to 7F

Check in your C: drive and both Program Files folders; Program Files, Program Files(x86).

Do you see a realtek folder in Program Files(x86)? If not, your problem is there are no 32bit files to run the 32bit side of your OS.

If you would have had your system specs listed I could have help you find them. But since not, you will have to find the ones appropriate for your system, and install them.

I have installed the graphics drivers and they seem to be working, but I can't get the sound to work. My motherboard is an ASUS M2V-MX ad has a Realtek HD audio device. I don't have the installation disk, but I've downloaded driver after driver from the sites that have the Realtek HD audio drivers, but none of them work. I could buy a soundcard, but what's the point when my computer already has on board sound. What do I need to do to get it to work?

A:Realtek HD audio is not working.

No such thing as "Windows XP Gamer Edition", as far as Microsoft is concerned .

ok, here it is. Two days ago, I stated up my laptop from sleep mode and the sound was not working. The drivers say they are functioning, but seem to be in use and unavailable. I have had the laptop for five months and it has been working fine. I tried to check what might have taken place in the mean time between closing it and booting the system again. What I found was that there had been a restore point made shortly after I booted the system for an automatic update that didn't actually get installed. So I restored the system back before that, and tried several different points up to a month ago with no luck. I've downloaded newer drivers. Tried different driver versions, the official developer downloads and the Realtek downloads. I just installed SP1 as well, and then re-tried it again. I've tried to check for every mal-ware, virus, trojan, and anything else I could think of. I am at a complete loss for what to try.
Thanks in advance for any help I can get.
Adrian Hartery.

So I just did a clean install of windows 7 64bit onto my new motherboard, its a asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and ive installed all of windows updates, and drivers, ive installed all the drivers that came with my mobos disc, and the realtek hd audio driver isnt showing up as an audio device, its neither in my device manager or control panel, ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times and tried updating the driver and it still isnt working, I made sure the on board audio is enabled through my bios to, but nothing ive tried has worked, I went into dev manager and viewed through "connections" and I think its showing up as HD audio controller but thats it, I tried updating, uninstalling it but its not working, even updating my bios to the latest version, im running sli gtx 460's if that helps, please get back to me its very frustrating, both the front and rear jacks arent working.

Not in devmgr but its installed?

Or in control panel

A:Realtek HD Audio not working at all

There could be many issues here. First of all, you have way too many audio drivers installed. This could be causing conflicts. If I were you, I would uninstall Razer Surround especially. Personally, I didnt really like the experience I got after installing it, and frankly, a lot of Razer software is pretty bad. So that would be my first guess as to why the driver isnt showing. Secondly, why do you have so many nVidia HD Audio drivers installed?

Ok, so here are some possible fixes:
1) Create a system restore (if you need help, refer to this)
2) Uninstall Razer Surround.
3) Uninstall nVidia Virtual Audio.
4) Go back to Device Manager and uninstall any remaining nVidia HD Audio or Razer Surround drivers by right clicking and pressing uninstall.
5) Restart your PC.
6) Download and install the latest Realtek HD audio driver from here.

Tell me if this solves the issue. If it does not, report back.

Hi, I have a box that was installed with WinXP in Korean. I formatted it... I thought I reinstalled all the needed drivers, but I guess not. Anyway, like the title says, I'm getting a very basic "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error message. Opening up the case didn't help much either, nothing is labeled.

Anyway, here's the Everest log, maybe someone can make sense of it.

Hi there

I've got Windows 7 running on a new system I've built and I'm currently undergoing strange problems.

The current Microsoft High Definiton Audio drivers make the sound work fine, but it doesn't seem to think there's a microphone jack on the system.

I've tried updating drivers to the latest Realtek HD Audio ones - but the installer simply deletes the files it has copied straight after install! Really odd.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Hi guys!

I've just had a mini-heart attack! I was watching some youtube videos on my Windows Vista when my screensaver turned on. I touched my touch-pad quickly so I can continue watching my videos and there it was - my sound was gone. I looked at my volume mixer in the right bottom corner and it looked as it did before - it showed that I had 50% volume and all that normal stuff. But I couldn't hear a thing!
When I use the headphones, however, everything works fine.

So I googled it, and found this post on the forum:

Did exactly the same things: the system restore - but it did not fix the problem, installation of the pack - but it also popped that it doesn't apply.

I'm getting really nervous because I don't know what is wrong. My Windows Vista is telling me that it is working normally, but I cannot hear a thing!

Please help

PS. Im not a computer person - so if you can, explain how to do stuff in a dumb-proof way

I just installed a new GPU Radeon HD2600PRO, and now I have no audio.

Windows XP pops up with the New Hardware Found Wizard and fails to install drivers for it using both options to install automatically and manually. Tried installing the drivers from the Realtek site and also tried the drivers on the HP website. Uninstalled the Unknown PCI device in device Manager and scanned for new hardware, still shows unknown PCI device.

The PC is an HP model a1118x (Athlon XP 3300) running XP Home. Any thoughts on why a new AGP card would kill onboard audio?

Hi, I am new to these forums and I've tried every possible way to fixing this problem, but I still cant fix it. My problem is that my sound icon says "No audio output device is installed". Ive tried installing Realtek through Device Manager and legacy installs. Even through Windows Troubleshooter and it still doesnt work. This has been going on for 2 days and it wasnt like this before. My model is CQ5621F from HP and I hope someone is able to help me.

A:Realtek Audio HD Driver is not working

If it worked OK previously, use the System Restore function and restore the PC to an available restore date this BEFORE you had the problem. System Restore will fix many problems (and does not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

A comment on your 64bit OS installation. 3GB of RAM is woefully inadequate and you are not getting any benefits from the 64 bit OS as the main reason to have 64 bit OS is having more than 4GB of RAM. In fact you have less useable RAM as a 64 bit OS requires more memory than a 32 bit.

Previously my sound had been working perfectly fine but I have done something today which has caused my sound to stop working. There is a red and white x icon over the volume icon in the system tray and the error I get is when I right click the sound icon on the system tray and go to Open Volume Mixer it opens and says that "No audio device is installed."

But when I mouse over that same volume icon in the system tray I get a pop-up box with
Volume: 0
Realtek High Definition Audio

What I have done so far is gone to the device manager and uninstalled the drivers from there and downloaded the new ones (at least I think they were the correct ones) from the realtek website but the problem is still there.

Hi there,

I have recently built my own computer for the first time, and it seems to have gone pretty well. The only problem is that I can't seem to use a microphone, and it's really frustrating. First of all, when I plug the microphone into the front panel, the computer thinks i've Unplugged it. Similarly, when I take the plug out, it thinks I've put it in. I have checked the connection between the front panel sockets and the motherboard and all seems to be correct. I've also changed to AC97 and changed the BIOS settings to AC97 and that hasn't worked. The annoying thing is that when I plug the mic into the rear pink jack, it STILL doesn't work (it detects that there's a mic plugged in, but the mic just doesn't work). I've just reinstalled the realtek driver, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much for any responses.

By the way my specs are ASUS P8H77-M motherboard, coolermaster elite case, intel i5 core, realtek HD audio. I also have a Geforce GTX660 graphics card connected via HDMI to a monitor, and the sound comes out of the monitor. Could this be anything to do with the problem?

A:Realtek HD Audio microphone not working

The HDMI may be the culprit. When you use HDMI, the HDMI audio is generated on board the video card and becomes the default playback device and your RealTek (listed as "Speakers" in the Sound Playback panel) is not used.

The HD Audio connector should be used as it has more automatic detection.

If you have a DVI or VGA connection to the Monitor (or another monitor you can use) try that and disconnect the HDMI cable. If you don't have regular PC speakers, you can use a headset to listen for testing.

Two other things, (1) Make sure you are using the RealTek sound driver supplied by ASUS and not the generic Windows installed HD Audio Codec. (2) in the Sound Panel, Recording section, make the "System Mixer" the default recording device (if its not set).

So this has been an issue for a while now,
Every time I try and install 'Realtek HD Audio Drivers', My PC doesn't install them, and says it's the drivers aren't compatible. In the sound tab in the taskbar, the 'speakers' don't show up anywhere because Realtek isn't installed. Whenever I go to device manager, under Sound, video, game controllers, It says 'NVIDIA High Definition Audio'. This is a PROBLEM as when I am making music, the volume is pretty LOW and slightly distorted, even when everything is at 100%. My laptop which also runs Windows 10, and Realtek is installed and working on that. When I used Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit for my PC, Realtek was installed and also worked fine on that. [could it be a sound card issue?]

I am currently running a HDMI cable from the screen into my graphics card, and the AUX cord from the Sub [and speakers] into the back of my screen. The sound works at the moment but the problem is that the volume is very LOW. I have tried enabling Loudness Equalization in the enhancement tab in the sound options [in the taskbar] and nothing made a difference, I have also tried running the AUX cable into the motherboard and sound card from the Sub, but no sound comes through.

Here are also pictures that show what the problems are.
