Q: Duplicate names and Email addy's: OE6

When i partially type in the name of the person i want to send an email to, it either auto completes it, or shows me a bunch of names i can send it to. This is all fine and normal, but All of a sudden today, when it gives me the names i can send it to, there are 2 copies of each name. when i open the "addresses" tab, there's only one entry. so why, when autocomplete shows me names are there 2 of each?
i use OE6.0

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a friend with Adelphia as her ISP, and her daughter had set up a Yahoo addy but has since moved away. She has called Yahoo and deactivated the addy, but apparently it is still on her computer.I think she is using Outlook, but not sure. Often when she will send me an email and I reply,it will be returned to me because it will be the Yahoo one. How does she rid herself of the addy? Thanks Keith

A:Can't get rid of email addy

Is the e-mail that she sends to you show that it was sent from the Yahoo account? It is usually possible in e-mail client software to give a "reply to" address that is different than the senders address. This may be the case for your friend.

The incoming e-mail message header will usually show what e-mail software was used to compose and send the message. You should be able to examine the header to determine if your friend is using Outlook.

In Outlook Tools menu -> E-mail Accounts ... there is an option to View or Change Existing Accounts. You can then Remove any old accounts from the list.

have a look here

http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/

basically you need to know
the mail pop server and the smtp pop sever
it may simply be
mail.comcast.com
smtp.comcast.com
should be on the website somewhere

A:Is there a way to forward a msg w/o forwarding everyone's email addy

Hi,

Copy the e-mail into a new e-mail.

Address it to yourself at another e-mail address or possibly your Hotmail address and then put all the e-mail addresses of all the other people you want to send it to the BCC field.

Now send the e-mail.

None of the people you send it to ( in the BCC field) will see the other peoples e-mail addresses.

You could also look at groups in Outlook Express.

One problem you may have is that your ISP may see an e-mail you are sending to numerous people as attempts to send spam e-mails and block it / them.

When I try to send them (CW) a message from their site, as is recommended, I write the message, put in my email addy in the required spot, hit submit............and instantly get a pop-up message from MSN Explorer "Please enter a valid email address".
I've erased and written it in again and again, just as it should be but this disgusting pop-up won't let me send my message for help!! I have IE........is that the same thing as MSN Explorer? If so, I've never had this problem before.

I just loaded Office 2003 for the first time and use outlook. I like outlook. I don't want to change software... just fix this. When I receive emails if I leave them in the inbox for more than a week or so, if I 'reply to', just the name as it was received goes into the 'To' box and not the entire address. Then I get a Check Names pop up that says outlook does not recognize that name - even if that is how I received the message.

I am sure there is a box to check off that I just can't find. Can anyone help me please?

I'm hoping someone could help me out. I've been told that people from my hotmail account is getting spam emails from me but I'm not sending them. The only time I ever use my email account through hotmail is when I know I have someone sending me something.

I went ahead and did the scans from the DDS by following another posts suggestion on doing the five steps found here. I hope you don't mind me doing this ahead of time.

So now I'm just hoping to find out how to fix the problem. I have already changed the password on my account to try and stop them from being able to continue (whoever it is) sending more spam emails to my friends.

Also, I didn't run the GMER because I have a 64 bit system.

I went to my neigbors and downloaded the fix, did the fix, reformated my hard drive and loaded XP home, (needed to do this and thought might as well now) got everything reloaded, installed, no problem, except the Norton, still can't live update or even get on their site

This morning I woke up to find my Norton open, saying I had the same virus again, I again, did the fix, says it is fixed but still cannot get on Nortons site?

I don't know if settings are wrong, I messed with everything under the internet security, added norton/symantec as trusted sites. I would like to just email symantec tech support, but I can't find their email address anywhere, I have even tried to guess at what it is but they came back

Hi,
When you start typing an email address in Outlook 2007 it shows options to autocomplete the address from all the thousands of previous email addresses you've used in the past, not only those ones you've saved in your contacts list.

I need a solution to save all those 'extra' email addresses that show up.
I deal with sales and in one day I can send up to 1200 emails and saving each one would just weigh me down time wise.

If there's a program that will save these addresses please let me know, thanks.

I have a program which creates files with .DRA extension.

Also ALL file names are the same example.DRA

They are created within the program, which somehow allows file names to be the same, with a different date stamp of course

I accidently deleted these files but have managed to recover them but now can`t put them back in the original folder as windows overwrites the previous ones.

Is there a way round this perhaps disabling the overwrite feature within windows ( registry perhaps)

This is very urgent and help would be really appreciated

Many thanks

This is pertaining to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have found that in a directory I can have multiple folders with the exact same name. I noticed this today when I reinstalled "WhereIsIt 2010", it automatically creates a directory in the documents folder called "WhereIsIt Catalogs" with just a dummy "sample" file in the folder. As, usual I took my copy of the backup of the "WhereIsIt Catalogs" file and copied it to the document directory and then I ended up with 2 of the same file folders. To prove to myself I wasn't losing it I created another folder of the same name and YES I ended up with three copies of the same folder in one directory...Is this a new "feature" or do I have a problem? I have scanned for viruses and found nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this can cause quite a problem down the road.

A:Duplicate Folder names, same directory

Duplicate file/ sub-directory names cannot exist within the same directory.

Bring up a cmd/DOS prompt -
START | type cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe above under "Programs" | select "Run as Administrator" | Paste --

Code:

dir "%userprofile%\documents" /a /o:n > 0 & start notepad 0

A Notepad will open with the results.

Look at filenames/ directory names. Are any the same?

I have a strange problem with my taskbar.

I would like to have my taskbar set up as two rows with the top row being Quick Launch and the bottom row showing the open windows, however, when I arrange the toolbars like this, I appear to have two Quick Launch toolbars.

If I swap the toolbars' positions, there is no problem.

And if I lock the toolbar like this, it behaves normally, but if I lock the toolbar when it is arranged like the first picture, I get this:

A toolbar handle remains even though the taskbar is locked.
If I unlock the taskbar again, the toolbar containing the open windows behaves as if it were the Quick Launch toobar, and I can drag it up to the desktop like this:

I have to use a taskbar repair tool to get rid of the empty toolbar and to get the window buttons back, but the problem still remains.

I noticed the problem after turning on the language toolbar messed up my taskbar setup, but it may have existed before.
Turning off the language toolbar did not solve the problem and I have tried using "TaskbarRepairToolPlus!" and the "xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs" script.

Google has failed me. Does anyone know how to fix this?

A:[SOLVED] Duplicate toolbar names in taskbar

Greetings spadija, Welcome to TSF!

You might like to try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD).

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2, you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Please post back with the result, or if there are any further queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

Hi all.

I have imaged 4 Dell Dimension 6100's with an image I created from a Dell 6000. Image was the 6000's HD.
I connected one to a network. Worked well.
However, when I tried to connect the other Dells to the network, I got an error message stating that there were duplicate computer names - even though I changed the names of all the Dells.
In fact, all the Dells see only the original name of the computer name of the original imaged computer.
No mater how many times I attempt to change names, all the Dells see is the imaged computer name.

I've imaged before and have never had this problem happen.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails

I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

Suggestions?

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

Hello,

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

Hello

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

June

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

Hi

I've got a spreadsheet with lots of names and email addresses in grids. These are spread across several workbooks, each being a different department. What I want to be able to do is, if a name or email address occurs in the worksheets more than a set amout of times for this to be either flagged up or highlighted. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

I receive a lot of email that's already been sent to 500 or so other people. The names and addresses of those people is at the top of the email message. When I want to forward a particular piece of email that contains all that info, how do I get rid of the names and addresses so that the email message appears to come from me and not everybody else on the planet? Hope someone can help with this - I've put up with it for several years - and enough is enough!!! Thanks.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

For some reason I'm not able to use my email when responding to email address links. Until this morning this wasn't a problem. I get an error message: "Can't write the item."
I have not intentionally made any changes to my settings.

I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

(I cross-posted on the Business Application forum as well because I'm not sure if this is an email problem or a Word/Excel problem.)

I maintain a basic database in Excel 2000 and use Word 2000 to do an email merge. There are about 130 records on the list and the emails go to my outbox in my earthlink account. The first time I did it, I merged all records at one time and everyone received the same email twice. The second time I did it, I merged about 20-30 at a time, in different batches, but it still duplicated everyone. Any suggestions on what's going on and then how I can fix it/create a work-around. (One I've half considered is importing the Excel file to Access and trying it from there...but I'm not an Access expert and I'm hoping someone has an 'easier' solution.)
