Yoga 370 not charging through USB-C Thunderbolt 3 Dock

Q: Yoga 370 not charging through USB-C Thunderbolt 3 Dock

So I got a brand new Yoga 370 and just got me a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I have connected it to my laptop through a Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s) USB-C cable male-male 5A, which supports power supply up to 100 W. I have plugged in the dock itself with a Lenovo original cable of 90 W. I also plugged in a HDMI cable from the dock to my monitor. After plugging in, my computer automatically installed the Thunderbolt software, package version 17.3.74.400. It also says I have the Thunderbolt controller generation 15BF, firmware version 4.04, installed now. Monitor works fine. But my Yoga is not charging. I tried to restart the computer, unplug the dock, and I even installed the Lenovo Power Management software from the Lenovo website, which I assume is then the latest version. Any ideas of what could possibly be wrong here? It is a bit of a disappointment as I was hoping this would work perfectly fine right away. I spent some 50 dollars on the USB C cable and another 150 on the dock itself. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all, I do tech support at a university that uses various Lenovo notebooks across campus. I have noticed a trend among the users that have a Thinkpad Yoga 370 Notebook and are using a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock, myself included. Occasionally (every few weeks or so), one of the affected systems will show "plugged in, not charging" tooltip when hovering over the battery tray icon. When this happens, the charge indicator light by the charging port and Thunderbolt port does not turn on, the battery continues to drain, and unplugging the Thunderbolt cable and either plugging it (or the regular power cable) back into the notebook has no effect. These systems all use Lenovo System Update to keep their drivers and BIOS up to date, and I have updated the firmware on the Thunderbolt 3 Docks manually. This issue was brought to my attention because it started happening to me and my laptop/dock after the first few weeks of having it, and this behavior continued to happen for months. I would constantly be plugging in and unplugging my laptop, as I do on-site support in several buildings, and my laptop goes everywhere with me. In October I stopped using my dock entirely, and since then have had 0 problems when just using the laptop's regular charging cable. I have 3 or 4 other users whom I support that have this issue though; due to the sheer volume of documents they need open at once, they need a multi-monitor setup and ethernet ports, so not having a dock is not an option. Hi, I have  a Thinkpad X380 Yoga. The Thunderbolt 3 Dock will not charge my Thinkpad X380 YOGA, and a message saying that the dock is not providing enough power shows up on my minitor. I wonder if anyone have a solution to this problem. It does not make  sense to have to connect the Thunderbold AND the AC power to the Thinkpad, it should be just ONE Thunderbold cord. 1. My power brick is 135W, 20V-6.75A2. I am connecting the Thunderbolt to throuogh the port on the back of the dock.3. I have went to BIOS  and under power section, "disable the battary for technical service" and pwered it back on. None of the above solutions worked.

Just bought a Lenovo soga s730 (in other countries it can be called 730s) and Omen accelerator by hp, there are several problems, the first one: the dock connects only from the second time (the first time it detect the thunderbolt connection, but then driver just turns off, the second time everything is ok); Second: the video card appears in the device manager, but the driver does not automatically turn on, the reboot helps, then everything starts working. The last most annoying problem is that there is no charging through the thunderbolt connector, the dock is in SELF POWER status. Screenshots attached.

I've set up my Thunderbolt 3 dock. I notice in the status, it shows "94% available (plugged in, not charging)". It has been like this for the past two days. Does the battery have to reach a certain threshold, before charging? Or is this normal? My last dock, with the 8570W would always charge to 100%.

I have narrowed the issue down to a software issue.  I have tried resetting the dock, the computer, updated to the newest driver as well as even replacing the dock itself.  I had an extra and thought the dock ports might just be dead but the new dock doesnt work either.  I have also tried both ports on the PC in order to rule that out as well.  Does anyone have suggestions?  Thank you in advance!!

P1 Laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 docking station.  Laptop charges just fine, however when disconnecting from the dock the laptop will do one of two things1) Take 10 minutes to switch from plugged in to running on battery2) Take even longer and by then the battery is pretty critical. Powering off completely and turning the machine back on always fixes the issue.  Who wants to do that though? One would think no big deal, I know it's unplugged why does it matter what the computer says.  In BIOS I have set maximum performance on AC so when BIOS thinks there is power it's a power hungry laptop and my battery level drops like a lead rock.  Anyone else have this issue?

I am having an issue with the Thunderbolt 3 dock with my Gen 5 X1 (20HR). Upon purchasing the correct replacement (Lenovo Recommended)  cable for length reasons. I cannot use the dock. The port one the dock heats up and the cable cycles on and off. Thus giving me undesired results. I've tried 3 different cables now and still the same results. The computer acts as if I've disconnected and reconnected the cable over and over. Until it is disconnected. What should we do?

Hello all,I bought a Yoga X1 2018 and during the shop they suggest the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Since I thought that having to disconnect only one cable when bringin the laptop from the desk to the meeting room would have been useful, I bought it.With my disappointment I setup everything and I did some tests on the laptop just to discover that the performance of the laptop when powered through the docking station are 1/3 with respect to when it's powered by the 65W power supply and 1/2 of when the laptop is on battery... (234pt vs 640pt vs 563pt | dock/65W/battery)Now since the docking station has a 135W power supply, I really can't think that this is an issue with the supply from the docking. Also since the laptop is even faster on battery I really don't understand how it could be related to the power supply... anyway I've connected both the 65W power supply and the docking and the performance are back to normal. Is there anyone who can suggest me what's going on or how to report this to Lenovo?

In short: can you recommend a graphics dock suitable for the Yoga X1 2nd gen? I just got this decked out ThinkPad Yoga X1 (second generation) and all it really needs to crush graphics-demanding games is an external graphics card. I've read articles about using Thunderbolt 3 graphics docks for just this use case, and I've read about a specific Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 graphics doc which appears to be only compatible with one model (not mine). What I can't find is anything about plugging one of these into my computer, or if it supports such a thing at all... Can any computer with Thunderbolt 3 use generic Thunderbolt 3 external, self-powered graphics cards?

I have recently purchased both of the subject items.  I was informed via chat channels with Lenovo that the graphics dock would work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen.  However, upon connection, my Yoga recognizes that a Thunderbolt device has been connected but it does not recognize that a graphics card or USB ports exist.  Thus, my mouse, keyboard, and monitor do not work while connected to graphics dock.  I have downloaded and installed the drivers for the graphics dock but the result is still the same.  Does the graphics dock really work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen?  If so, is there a BIOS setting I must address to make this configuration work?

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Also wanted to mention something I noticed while working on this: I saved a log from the Intel Utility. There is a section in there about "Maximum Image Size". This seemed to be correct for the laptop display (12.2"x6.69") but the Samsung was listed at 6.3" x 3.54"    It is a 24" diagonal display, so that is obviously wrong, but I don't know that it is important. Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 Report Date: Monday, February 5, 2018Report Time [hh:mm:ss]: 1:21:19 PMDriver Version: 23.20.16.4849Operating System: Windows* 10 Education (10.0.16299)Physical Memory: 16225 MBVendor ID: 8086Device ID: 5917Device Revision: 07Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) Version: 9.0.1066Current Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Display Type: DigitalDDC2 Protocol: SupportedGamma: 2.2Connector Type: DisplayPortDevice Type: DisplayPortMaximum Image SizeHorizontal Size: 6.3 inchesVertical Size: 3.54 inches

We have standardized our deployments to ThinkPad X1 Yogas, and in many case including this one, they are the second generation model. Because of the performance, we use the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, purchased directly through Lenovo. This setup is not unfamilar to use as we have deployed over 40 workstations in the same configuration. This morning, our team received a call stating that an end-users monitors weren't working. Upon reviewing, we found that the dock wasn't being recognized by the laptop, although the connection was there because it was charging the laptop. We went through the normal "rinse and repeat" steps of ensuring that the thunderbolt cable was connected to the correct ports on both the dock and the laptop, removing the connection, removing the power, rebooting the computer, reintroducing the dock, etc., but to no avail. We remove the dock from known devices hoping that it would spark it to recognize a new device, but it didn't. We removed the Thunderbolt Software completely, reinstalling it, and then reconnecting the device, and still, nothing. Our devices are set to automatically install critical and security updates both through Lenovo Vantage and Windows Updates, but, the only change made between the time it was working and the time it stopped working wasn't relative to the dock. To be sure, we rolled back the updates, then rolled back farther, but it still didn't resolve the issue. We then followed through with installing all Windows and Lenovo updates: ... Read more

I purchased the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with my Yoga 920 as it was listed as an accessory during my Yoga 920 purchase back in November.  I finally got around to setting it up and I can't seem to get the power button the dock to turn on my laptop.  The button glows white when my laptop is plugged in but the button will not turn the laptop on.  I have my power button option in Windows set to "when i press power button while plugged in, the laptop will go to sleep."  So even while the laptop is connected to the dock via USB-C/thunderbolt and the laptop is on, when I push the power button the dock, it doesn't put the laptop to sleep either--it does nothing. Googling around, I see there is a newer dock called USB-C dock and it's listed as compatible with the 920 whereas as the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is not listed as compatible.  Could this be the issue?   I also have thunderbolt software installed and it detects the dock in the software. I need some help please!

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

I've had my x1 yoga 3rd gen for about a year now, and love it. I've been using a thunderbolt 3 eGPU dock (aorus 1070 gaming box) as a dock for about the same amount of time now, since it gives me the convenience power and portability. Other than the occasional visual glitches and restarts, I haven't had any issues when I unplug my laptop from the eGPU dock, or plugging it in. However, yesterday after I unplugged my laptop from the eGPU dock, my laptop kept making a "connected USB" and "disconnected USB" sound. It looked like my Thunderbolt 3 software app kept crashing and rebooting. I also noticed that none of my usb c/thunderbolt 3 ports were working; the laptop says it's charging with nothing plugged in, and when I tried plugging in a charger, it wouldn't charge. The only solution I found was to disable Thunderbolt 3 in the BIOS, but I'm not sure if this is a software issue, or if there's a part of my motherboard that's fried. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for troubleshooting?

Hi, I  got Yoga 920 with Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock that is connected to two 4k Samsung monitors. Just recently when I put Yoga 920 to sleep the monitors will switch off, but in 10-15 sec start looking for a signal.Basicaly screen goes to black (looks like monitor is off) and then in 10 sec it switches on a show blank screen with input name on (DisplayPort) and than it goes off and in 10 sec on with input name ..... this keeps cycling on and off. This is happening on both monitors. It's strange as it used to work fine untill recently (apropox 1 week ago). Im on latest bios with Yoga 920 and latest firmware for Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Lenovo Vantage says my system is up to date. The windows recently updated to Windows 10 (1709), not sure if that is related. Any help how to fix this issue?

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. I had this one all of a week. Did I miss any other steps while I wait for it to be repl... Read more

I have a Thunderbolt 3 Dock connected to an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen laptop and daily the dock will briefly disconnect from the laptop. When this happens the two external monitors (DP connected) go blank and I can see that the LAN connection on the Dock drops off and onto Wifi.  This is happening to two different laptops and docks of the same model.  All the latest patchs, software, firmware and bios are installed.  Details:Win 10 (1607)X1 Yoga 3rd Gen (20LE) Bios: 1.12Thunderbolt Controller: 17.3.73.6Thunderbolt firmware: 407.06.12ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock Driver: 10011 Nothing seems to resolve it.  I have the laptop and dock on a UPS and the dock is using the correct power supply, plus I'm using the supplied USB 3 cable (0.5m) which is in the back slot on the dock and correct power slot on the laptop.  Any ideas to resolve.  (We will be deploying 100 of these in our office and need a resolution before we can proceed).

I'm using the thunderbolt port for a single connection to a Dell usb-c dock (power in, KVM out, speakers, network, etc.).  The 720 charges real slow and the battery status message (in Lenovo Settings app) states that the "AC adapter cannot provide enough power for normal operation of your computer".  The Dell usb-c docks are powered with a 180w power supply that provides 60w of power to the computer, which is more than the 45w power supply that comes with the 720.  I have tried 3 different Dell docks, including a Dell thunderbolt 3 dock with a 240w power supply. I have to believe this is an issue with the Thunderbolt 3 driver on the 720 or something BIOS related.  BTW, the 720 has Windows 10 pro loaded (updated from the home version loaded by default) and Bitlocker enabled.  Don't think these changes have anything to do with the issue. I purchased Lenovo's thinkpad usb-c dock (which states that it's universal) and hope it charges the 720.

Not able to get two monitors (Samsung S27E450) plugged into a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 docking unit to work with my X1 Yoga (Gen 2).   Montiors connected to docking via DisplayPort cables.   Windows 10 shows the monitors showing up as "Generic PnP" so something is being recognized.  Tried deleting the device in Device Manager, reboot.  Not finding the drivers on the Samsung site.   Any help appreciated.

(Don't know what happened to the first one I posted... Posting it again.) Hey group, While testing the performance of the SSD in my X1Y3 with CrystalDiskMark, I noticed a drastic performance drop in 4KiB Q(ueue)8T(hread)8 when connected to the Thunderbolt 3 Dock as compared to connected to AC power:  Dock: Random Read 4KiB (Q=  8,T= 8) :   318.764 MB/s [  77823.2 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q=  8,T= 8) :   256.349 MB/s [  62585.2 IOPS] AC Power:Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 943.671 MB/s [ 230388.4 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 1024.264 MB/s [ 250064.5 IOPS] I noticed that with the Dock, the CPU usage during the test was only about 50%, whereas on AC power it was about 100%. (See the attached pictures). With the performance drop, I also heard very audible "coil whine". I can't quite tell if it was only coming from the dock or both the dock and the laptop. All connected devices were unplugged from the dock. The only two cables connected to the dock were the AC cord and the Thunderbolt 3 cable. The noise is NOT heard while using AC power. I thought the noise was just annoying before, but now with this performance drop, I'm a bit more concerned... Based on my experience with Lenovo Tech Support, I don't think I'd get any real advice from them. I was wondering if anyone else noticed the same issue and what do you think is causing it?  Thank so much for your help! ... Read more
