Hdd not detected

Q: Hdd not detected

hi, I have a pavilion G6 HP laptop. it works fine . I want to give it to my wife so I bought a new 500 GB SATA HDD. fitted it but for some obscure raison it is not detected. I pressed f10 to get in the CMOS , I cant see where the hard drive is. in the main section of the CMOS the only thing I am able to change is the date and the time
.and diagnose memory and HDD. unfortunately there is no HDD there. I looked for SATA configuration , nothing. so I put the original HDD back in the lap top and it works fine. I then connected my external SATA driver reader, it recognises the new drive. so I reopened the laptop and swapped the old drive for the new one , still not detected. I tried installing window and after loading some of the software it stops and a blue screen comes on saying that there is no HDD in the machine. I'm lost. any idea why this happens ?
thank you

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo T410s - 29123RU BIOS - V1.5 (6UET70WW) 2012-10-11 - (updated from V1.1 this morning hoping it wold solve the problem)ECV - 1.14MTM - 29123RUCPU - Intel Core i5 M520 @ 2.4GHzRAM - DDR3 - 4GBx2 - PC3-10600s This laptop uses a 250GB - 1.8" Micro Sata HDDTOSHIBA MK2529GSG - 250GB - HDD1F07 M BL02 The other day the laptop was running fine then all of a sudden crashed.  I tried to reeboot and i got -  ERROR 2100: HDD0 (HARD DISK DRIVE) INITIALIZATION ERROR (2)PRESS ESC TO CONTINUE I have run scans on the drive itself using: HD Tune ProHDD RgeneratorCrystalDiskInfoTestDiskUBCD- ViVard v4.0- TAFT v1.2Passmark BurIn Test Pro v8.1 All the tests came back excellent which lead me to see if it was a BIOS issue.  I downoaded the updated v1.5 this morning and replaced the original v1.1.  No change in HDD detection. What really puzzles me is that when i use an OS through my USB or USB-SSD, they detect the drive and I am able to read/write to the entire drive without any loss of data or S.M.A.R.T. errors.  I just can't use this as my primary drive anymore because it will not initialize with BIOS.  I am hoping that I do not need to replace the MOBO as they go from $50 - $150 US plus shipping.   OS's used:Win10x64Win7x64WinXPWin98SELinuxMintBT5-R3KaliLinuxUBCD - FreeDOS - LINUXDoss6.22 Any thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like something is timing out.  It is hard to be sure without swapping either the drive or the MB.  You might go into the BIOS and select diagnostic mode for boot.  That would do a memory test and it might slow things down enough to mask the problem

Today Norton Antivirus began to block threats from Trojan.Zeroaccess.B, Trojan.Gen, Trojan.Gen.2, and Trojan.Zeroaccess.C. I have been prompted to do a manual removal of Trojan.Zeroaccess!inf4 from c:\windows\system32\services.exe. Additionally, Bitcoinminer is being repeatedly detected, blocked and quarantined. I'm not sure if Norton is having a problem deleting/quarantining Bitcoinminer, or if it is actually being downloaded over and over. I suspect that these two problems are related, as they started at the same time.

From what I gather, the fix seems to be quite complicated and I would appreciate some help.

My system is running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium w/ SP 1. Looking at similar threads, it looks like I'll need to use a flash drive to run removal tools. I do not currently have a flash drive on hand, but I do have an 4 GB SD card. Will that be a sufficient replacement?

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

A:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

I did a stupid thing yesterday. I downloaded an icon pack APK file on my computer to upload to my mobile. Anyway, the thing is, when I double clicked on it, BlueStacks (Android Emulator) opened up, and Avast started giving me lots of warnings about BlueStacks accessing Trojan URLs (it blocked them of course).
Now, the thing is: I scanned the APK file both in Malware Bytes Anti Malware and Avast (and even Malware Bytes Anti Rootkit), and it showed no virus or malware found. But when I try to attach the the same APK file as a Gmail attachment (which I read on the net detects viruses, which is why I tried it), Gmail gives me a "Virus found" error.
So, my question is how come such reliable antivirus / anti-malware programs like MBAM and Avast didn't detect the virus but Gmail did? And more importantly, (though I have deleted the APK file in question from my computer) is my computer safe? Or has a rootkit / trojan been installed?

A:Virus not detected in Avast & MBAM, but detected when I upload the file to Gmail

Hi guys,

I bought a bluetooth dongle off of amazon so I could use my bluetooth headset with my comp. Once plugged in it installs driver version 6.1.7601.17889 from microsoft and there are no yellow '?'s. When I look for devices it sees my headset no probs but will not connect, which it does instantly with phones / tablets etc.

A very detailed search has brought me to the conclusion that it's a problem with the bluetooth driver, not the headset. Unfortunately there are no identifiers on the dongle itself but device manager seems to think it's:

Device type: Bluetooth Radios
Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd

Is there anyway I can detect exactly the chipset in the dongle and get the correct drivers installed? Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

I should have came to this conclusion sooner, but my current re-installation of Windows has some problems that I haven't had the time to address until now. What I need, though, is access to the repair function on the disk. However, herein lies my problem...

When I boot up, media in the drive or no media, bios does not show the drive in its list. I can still open and close the drive as if nothing is wrong there, but I cannot "boot from CD". I've reset my bios back to defaults and while the drive appeared on IDE Channel 1 in the settings, it still would not recognize ANY media while booting up.

I have the latest version of my bios. I have also tried changing cables. The drive is on an IDE channel by itself.

Once my system boots into Windows, however, the drive is recognized and acts normally as if nothing happened in bios. Media operates fine. I have checked the event viewer, and there are no entries anywhere that states my optical drive has been experiencing problems, and yes, in fact it operates just like it always does.

Can anyone help me get my bios and cdrom back together again? The problem is I just do not know where to start to solve this. I wish I could say how long this has been happening, but I really don't know as of today. There have been no hardware changes in the past three months, and my current installation and configuration began back in late April.

Thanks for your time...

A:CD/DVDROM drive - not detected by bios, detected by Windows?

What is the boot sequence in the bios? should be CD or optical drive first, then Hard Drive or IDE-0 second if you want to boot from the cd-drive. Many computer manufacturers set the computer to automatically boot off of the hard drive by default so setting the factory defaults might not be what you are looking for. Look for the screen that has the boot order or sequence and just change it, exit and save settings and restart the computer with the boot cd in the drive. I hope that helps.

A scan by TrendMicro picked up several infections, most of which it was able to clean up. But it wasn't able to remove PAR_SE.50425 and PAR_SE.50426. It also says I have a (MS05-004) ASP.NET Path Validation Vulnerability (887219), even though I have automatic Microsoft security updates. The first several minutes of a PandaScan (I didn't have time to finish it) found some SearchMeUp adware.

I'm so sorry, I can't remember how to Hijack This, otherwise I'd post that log, too. Any help you could provide would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

I went to connect today and my dialup connection was gone.  I thought, well, I'll recreate it....but Windows would not let me and said (in the Connect to a Network box):  "Windows could not detect a dialup modem", "Is the modem connected?", "is the modem switched on?"
It is an internal modem.
I went to Device Manager, and there it is as usual, "This device is working properly".

A:Dialup modem detected, but not detected, huh?

Doing some searching gave me this solution:
It is caused by certain services being shut off for unknown reasons.... definitely unknown in my case (??).
Delete or rename the following folder:
(the folder, rtbackup)
However, it has some kind of protection and doesn't allow itself to be so changed.  I did it from a DOS boot disk with NTFS4DOS.
Everything is working.

I've been working on this off and on for a week or 2 - searching the net hi and lo, including this site, and can't come up w/anything, so I'm resorting to posting here...

I've just built this PC (configuration should be in sig), and installed Win98SE on it.

I have a SoundBlaster PCI 128 CT 4700 (w/ES1370 chip) that I bought off a friend. He didn't have the original CD w/drivers.

I've downloaded SEVERAL different "updated" drivers from various sources (including Creative), but nothing seems to work.

Here's what happens:

Windows sees new hardware and starts installing drivers. About the same time another window pops up:

Press OK, this reveals the window in the bg:

Hello, I recently bought a Probook 450 G4, i7 7500U with 1 TO HDD and 8GB RAM. I wanted to upgrade it with an SSD so I bought a ADATA Premier SP550 2280 M.2 SSD. The BIOS detected it normally, but windows installer wouldn't find it. I removed the HDD and tried again, same issue. I then installed windows 10 on the HDD to try and format the SSD in windows and surprise! no sign of the SSD nowhere, not in browser nor in Disk Managment or Diskpart. Apparently HP disabled the M.2 port in BIOS as mentioned here ( https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/M-2-SSD-Upgrade/m-p/5580822#M3... ) I updated the BIOS the the latest version provided by HP for my laptop model and the same issue is still ongoing, this is a 120$ SSD that I can't use nor return as the problem is the HP product not ADATA's SSD! The simplest solution is in the hands of HP, just release a BIOS update with the M.2 port ENABLED ! why brag about having a M.2 port in your products and then DISABLE it ?! Any insights please ? Many Thanks. PS: I started a new thread yesterday and it is no longer available now ! did HP remove it or what ? it was there for a while and I'm sure! what a shame !

I picked up a computer off craiglist was thoroughly enjoying my gtx geforce 680 ( https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/sys/6239989909.html ) when it "crashed" about 6 hours after purchase. When I rebooted I received the "no hard disk detected" message. Upon launching bios setup the hard drive is listed with details as being attached to its corresponding sata port. I am trying to determine if my hard drive is broken or if it needs remounting or some other sort of procedure.

The hard drive is a slightly dated WD Carver 1 TB SATA internal drive interacting with an asus motherboard. I did notice the boot order for drives had been rearranged putting an external and an optical disk drive in position 1 and 2 for boot directories. I disabled both the external and optical disc and selected the WD sata drive as the first preference for booting. Still I am getting the same error. I read somewhere that if the bios is recognized in setup but is still not recognized for booting that I may need to run a 32bit diagnostic. The forum I saw the diagnostic post mentioned on was in reference to a dell machine. I don't really know what this is or if it exists on my ASUS mother board.

In short: how can I tell If my hard drive needs replacement?

If Bios recognizing the drive is sign of life how can I get my computer to recognize this drive again?

are there any programs I could download on my laptop and put on my external that could be used to boot and run diagnostics on t... Read more

My laptop has suddenly started running CHKDSK during startup. After it completes and finishes booting I go to Properties > Tools > Error Checking of my C drive and click ?Check?. It says errors were found on this drive and to repair drive now to prevent data loss. I click to run it, the system reboots, I see the prompt to cancel CHKDSK by pressing any key, let it run, the screen remains blank with just the little spinning dots. It finishes (in less than a minute, which is faster than it usually takes) and loads to desktop. I check the C drive properties again and it still says there are errors and to repair.

Running CHKDSK from CMD prompt I get ?Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.? Running a 3rd-party disk checker (Disk Doctor, Tune-Up Utilities) also reports no errors. Yet the properties dialog continues to warn that there are errors.

I can?t be certain when this started. Just noticed this yesterday when I booted up (I don?t usually stick around and watch the computer boot). Windows has all the latest updates/patches. This is an HP ENVY laptop that came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Anyone have any ideas?

OK - When I look at Device Manager, the modem shows up. When I go to Properties / Diagnostic / Query Modem, it is fine.

When I run Juno, it is able to successfully retrieve e-mail (it just dials and connects).

I CANNOT connect to the web - Juno says that there is no modem installed. Upon further investigation, when I go to Connections and try to add a new connection, I am not allowed a choice of using a modem.

So - Device Manager and Juno E-mail both think that the modem works fine. Connection Wizard and Juno WWW both think that no modem exists.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the modem, to no avail. Oh, and yes, it used to work, and I can't get the user to remember a specific time when it stopped working.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

My Kingston Data
Traveller 8 GB drive (1 yr old) is not getting detected on my new PC (2 weeks old). It was working perfectly on my old pc, and is working fine on my office PC, frnd's PC, Philips DVD player, Sony HiFi audio system.

My mobo is Biostar TA785GE 128M, OS is win xP Pro 32 bit. The drive is detected on all USB ports of mobo, but as soon as I start any data transfer, it crashes and i get error that data cannnot be transfered.

The Disk Management (My Computer - Manage) shows the drive as healthy, but after I start any file transfer, in a few seconds, it reads "Unreadable". Sometimes, the drive letter also goes missing. In brief, the drive is displayed in My Computer till any file transfer is initiated. As soon as any file trnsfr starts, I get error that file transfer is not complete and the drive goes missing.

My frnd's UsB drive (2 GB), and my old 256 mb drive, both work and files are transferred which removes the doubt that there is some prob in USB ports. As the 8gb pen drive works on other PCs and devices, so i guess the drive is okay. I ran HDtune for it, and it has no bad sectors. That leaves my OS as the culprit (I assume). Looks like there is some problem in the way XP maps the USB drive.

I've tried many things, and here is my observation:

* Changed drive letter to other letters, but to no avail. Changed drive letter to a working USB drive letter, but failure again.
* Formatted many times, but data transfe... Read more

I just built my first computer, and I am trying to work out a few kinks here and there. I am running one HDD, a WD Raptor 150 GB, and for some reason, when I boot my computor, the BIOS says that no hard drive is detected, yet somehow it still manages to boot Vista, and the HDD is available once Vista is booted. I don't beleive it is causing any problems after boot, but it just seems odd that it wouldn't be detected by the BIOS. Did I do something wrong?

A:No HDD Detected

There may be a setting in your BIOS that a HD is present in addition to the one the OS is on.

Previous to problem, all hardware was operating as it should. NEC P-90, 3-HD's of 1.5gb or less, and SB 8X CD-ROM running on W-98SE. As a backup PC, decided to houseclean, and "Full Formated" the C: and D: drive, leaving some files on E: to be copied later. How life changes! I recall there was a problem back when, you upgraded/installed hard drives greater than 1.5mb with P-90's?
Currently it is DOS 6.1, W-3.1. In the Setup, AutoConfigured is set for all. C: (Western Digital 1223mb),DConner 1219mb). E: (the problem child - Western Digital Caviar 2600). I did not re-format E:!
At power up I get"Secondary IDE Controller Resource Conflict" in DOS window. Setup shows E: Not Installed, F: Not Installed. (F: being the SB 8xCD-Rom)
I would like to resolve this so that I can install W-98SE from CD as before. I have checked all wires for connection, but as I say it worked before! I installed SBIDE20.exe driver.Any thoughts?

Hi. My friend installed windows 10 to my newly replaced seagate 1TB HDD. Then when i used it, it there was an error message that comes up intermittently. So, i used the windows 10 recovery disc to fix it. Later did i know that my friend installed it as 32-bit, not the 64-bit it was supposed to be given my recovery discs. It hang and became unresponsive. I rebooted the laptop. But to my surprise, an error message on blue screen says i need to install an OS and something about 3F0. I used the MS Media Tool, but it wont detect my HDD. I tried the HP diagnostics, but no HDD is being detected. I tried checking the cables, all seem to be fine. I used the SeaTools diagnostics, again, no HDD is being detected. What should i do?

2 Questions: My CPU fan recently stopped working. I had it replaced but the repair shop told me I would not be able to do anything about the error message on startup of, "CPU FAN NOT DETECTED" and that I would have to press F1 each time on startup in order to continue. Is there any way to remove this message?

Also, how do I create a default OS so that I do not have to choose from the list of 2 at each startup? These two issues are quickly becoming an annoying start to booting up my computer.

Thank you.

Aside from the fact that you should have updated to SP3 already, it's likely a hardware fault.

Uninstall the USB controllers in Device Manager and reboot.

I haven't found a really good answer to this, and I have searched to internet until my eyes have bled. I recently had to reinstall Windows XP SP2. I actually have an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro card, which I purchased about a month ago. So, the card is the only new hardware thrown into the mix. I always check certain areas after a reinstall. One of those areas is basic, the hardware devices.

I have an a PCI device detected under unknown devices. I have removed and rebooted numerous times and no device has been the culprit. And there is no dive driver in any searches which I can install. So, I am wondering if it could be that my Graphics card using the PCI bus for slot one, which, according to my MOBO documentation is the slot reserved for the AGP to share. It hasn't caused any problems, and I dont want to disable it, but it just bothers me that it is there. Any thoughts?

Just recently, I have aquired an additional PC. It is a Zenith made in, from what I can tell, 1994. Uses mostly DOS, but when it's scan program, called SASSy, runs through the files, it has quite a few Windows files. So I'm assuming that it is Windows 3.1, which I have never dealt with. It does run with Pentium (tm), and has a floppy disk drive and a CD-ROM drive. I'm having trouble getting the hard drive to recognize the CD-ROM drive.
The CD-ROM is a NEC MultiSpin 6V, Model # CDR-1350a. I have downloaded (on our other computer) the installation disk and the CD-ROM driver, on a floppy disk and tried to install them. No luck! There is power going to the CD-ROM because the light comes on when I insert a disk.
What I am ultimately trying to do is upgrade the PC to Windows 98. I am not very familiar with DOS or Windows 3.1. Can someone, please, help me!

Is your other machine running windows 95/98? If so do you have a start-up disk which you could try booting from? If you do this should pull in the cd-rom drive and you can then install windows 95/98 from there. You do not say whether this is an intermittent fault or you have never been able to use it, perhaps trying a different data cable would be an idea?

Hello, all! I went to Microsoft's site today, to try to run a OneCare Safety Scan, and I received the message, "We're sorry. This version of the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner doesn't work with your Web browser or operating system." I have IE7, on Windows XP Media Center Edition."

It worked last week.

Also, when I go to one particular website, I receive the message, "We're sorry, (this website) does not support the version of the browser you are using. Please upgrade to the latest version of your browser by clicking a link below."

This site was fine right before Christmas.

On Dec. 24, I downloaded a trial version of Zone Alarm Security Suite. It ran out a couple of days ago, and I clicked on not purchasing it, but to just put in the old Zone Alarm Firewall (free).

I have already reinstalled IE7, and I uninstalled and reinstalled the free Zone Alarm firewall. I am still getting the same results.

I called Microsoft today, and they could not figure it out.

Help, please!

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I was trying to fix my Ext HD as it detected as RAW. After struggling with any kind of methods I know, I give up, and I decide to format it. But, oh God, why is the formatting always failed. Is it the impact that I once marked my ext HD as ACTIVE when I was ostentatiously trying to fix my ext HDD?
Anyway I followed the instructions as Brink mentioned but still no luck for me.

Here is the error shown from diskpart

Can somebody please help this poor soul and tells me what's going on?
it's WD My Passport 1 TB

A:Ext HDD detected as RAW

The disk and its active/inactive partitions status should not have any impact when formatting a hard drive. The problem may lie within the external hard drives controller (the box its enclosed in) or the usb wire used to connect it. I would suggest pulling the hdd out of the enclosure and attaching it directly to a desktop (if available) and formatting it while its directly connected to a computer via its sata/ide port. Instead of trying to format it using the ext drive box and a usb wire. If the drive fails when in that configuration then the drive is more than likely a door stop.

For some unknown reason to me, when the computer is turned on it is displays that IDE is not detectd and then goes to a black page with white writing, asking if i want to put the computer into safe mode, last configuration or start windows normally. I have tried putting starting with safe mode and normally, but after selcting these it starts to load, then reboots itself, and the computer will not start up at all. What is Wrong With it and How can i fix this?

A:Help, IDE Not Detected?

It could be a bad sector which houses a vital part of the Laster Boot Record or maybe the disk has become unmountable. Either way, an answer lies within your XP CD, assuming you have one.

Pop it in and if it doesn't run first time, restart and tap Delete to Function 2 on startup to access the BIOS menu, then seek out the Boot Order or Boot Sequence and change it to CD first. Save the changes and exit (usually Function 10) and you should see a message to "Hit and key to boot from CD". Do that and the file copy process runs through. Press Function 8 when prompted to accept the terms of the EULA. At the enxt stall of the screen, select R for Repair and you will be offered the choice of which system to repair. Usually it's Number 1 so type 1 and press Enter. When the Command Prompt appears, type chkdsk /r, hit Enter and wait while a five stage process runs.

Then at the next prompt, type fixmbr and hit Enter. Accept the warning and when that completes, type fixboot and hit Enter again. One more warning and you can type exit to leave the system and restart.

Hopefully, it will work - if not post back for details of curing the unmountable disk.

Hi sir, gud day.. I have a problem about my pc.. I have my pentium 4, with 1gb of Ram running with WIndows XP Professional. my problem is, if i attached my usb flash drive 4 gigabytes or above, it cannot be detected. But when i attached only 2gb usb flash drive, the computer recognized it.. what's is the problem of this sir..thank you..god bless..

A:Can't be detected.

There is no technical reason why Windows XP will not recognise pen drives with a capacity higher than 2GB, as my son uses a 4GB pen drive on Windows XP SP3 with no such problems.

The drivers for USB pen drives (regardless of make or capacity) are built in to Windows XP so it's not a driver problem if other pen drives work okay.

This leads to me to the conclusion that your 4GB pen drive may be faulty, but try using it on a different PC if possible to confirm this. If it doesn't work on any PC then it's definitely a faulty pen drive. They aren't repairable so just replace it.

Although I can find no documentation to support this, it's just possible that you may need to install SP3 (if you haven't done so already).

A:HDD not detected

Greetings, I am a little fuzzy on what's happening here. Is the HDD detected in BIOS? Win 8 supports UEFI. So disable legacy boot, enable secure boot, enable fast boot. Load or insert DVD or USB stick. Reboot and tap "ESC". Select "Boot Menu". Select UEFI boot device, either DVD or USB.  You should be able to run UEFI-GPT setup now. Cheers!

Hi, For the first question: amount of memory can vary depending on available system RAM on your computer therefore you can see more (up to max allowed) or less, not a fix number. For the second question: Can you see NVidia Control Panel (right click a blank space on desktop). Open it, you can change from there. Regards.

Please help! Let me know if you need any other information.

Did you disconnect the external drive and power down the PC?
Do that, then let the compuiter boot without the drive once.

Then while up and running, reconnect the drive. Vista is better than absolutely any other OS, as regards properly detecting new devices.
