I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased a Gateway laptop M-6888U that had no software disc provided. I was told by Bestbuy to simply backup my entire drive. I wish to know is there a way to make a recovery disc that WILL install a fresh copy of vista64 or am I screwed since everyone is trying to cut corners? I know I can make a recovery disc that works IF I have a working installation of my OS. My concern is if the drive gets corrupted and my OS needs to be reinstalled I'm screwed, with my only option being to purchase a new copy of Vista.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Create a Gateway OEM Recovery Disc

Hello Gruvin, and welcome to Vista Forums.

This link at Gateway will help show you how to create a set of OEM recovery discs to use to restore Vista back to factory defaults with if you are unable to from the hard drive's recovery partition. Just repeat again, and select the other option to create the Vista recovery disc and not just one for the applications and drivers disc.

Hi all I'm new here, so I hope this is the right sub-forum for this question. I'm trying to create a Recovery disc for my laptop (Asus Zenbook), and as it doesn't have a CDROM, I'm following the instructions here 95 - Make a bootable Windows Recovery USB Flash drive from a Windows 7 system - RMPrepUSB to create the recovery disc on a USB pen drive. The problem I have is that when I look in the C:\Recovery folder, it looks empty to me. And yes, I have run the command prompt as Administrator. I can't proceed without this step in the process. Can anyone help? thanks

A:Empty C:\Recovery folder when trying to create Recovery Disc

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
startup repair disc-create

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Before you start make your Recovery disk.
Disable Boot Booster in BIOS setup before you perform system recovery from USB flash disk, external optical drive or hidden partition.

1. Press <F9> during bootup.
Ensure to press <F9> only once during bootup.
2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
3. Repeat the step 1—2 in the previous section.
4. Connect a USB storage device to your Eee PC and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup.
The size of the connected USB storage device should be larger than 16GB.
Memory cards are not supported for this function.
A dialog box appears as a reminder if you have not connected the USB storage device for system recovery backup to your Eee PC.
5. Select a desired USB storage device if more than one USB storage device is connected to your Eee PC and click Continue.
6. All the data on the selected USB storage device will be cleared. Click Continue to start the backup or click Back to backup your important data.
You will lose all your data on the selected USB storage device. Ensure to back up your important data beforehand
7. The system backup starts and click OK when done.

I have a question and am in hopes someone has the answer. Ok my Dad has the Vista64 on his Gateway computer. Well he didn't make the disc when he first got his new computer. We are needing those disc due to we had to take it to bestbuy(under warranty), and they are telling us they have to have the disc to repair his system due to it is corrupt and they are going to have to wipe his system clean and take it back to the original factory settings. This OEM Recovery Disc that is showing in this post and link, can I download that onto my system which is XP to put it on the disc for that? OR will it actually download a vista 64 into my system? I don't want to mess up my system so this is why I'm asking. Was going to purchase the disc but have no idea where to buy them at.

Thanks for the help!

A:Create or get OEM Recovery Disc?

First there is no link shown.
Second, what is the name and make of your computer. There is usually an Fkey that can be used to go back to factory settings.
You cannot make an OEM DVD at this point.
You may be able to get one for cost from the manufacturer/seller of the computer.

Hi, recently Vista failed to start on boot-up and I had to do a restore to partition one to get it going. Needless to say this is a lot of work as I lost all of my settings.
Vista (32) came pre-installed on my laptop so I don't have the disc. On windows 7 it seems easy enough to create a recovery disk from "backup and restore" but I don't see the same option in Vista. I have read in forums ways to do it but these were pre SP1 and I have SP2 installed. I want to know if there is a way to do it through Vista. Cheers

A:Need to create a recovery disc

Hello Alamshar,

The recovery disc created through "Backup and Restore" is not the same as your OEM factory recovery disc. The recovery disc through "Backup and Restore" can only be used to repair Vista with, and cannot install/reinstall Vista. The OEM factory recovery disc, can only be used to do a clean install of Vista with.

If you wanted to create the OEM factory recovery disc instead, then please post back with what brand your computer is and if it's a laptop or desktop. I'll be happy to see if I may be able to find and post back the instructions for how.

Are there any legitimate third party sources of recovery discs for older Gateway notebooks?

I am trying to give a second life to a friend's old Gateway W3501 / T6330u notebook. On power-up, SMART is reporting imminent hard drive failure and the notebook will not boot to Windows Vista Home Premium. I have another 2.5" SATA drive that I can swap in. However, my friend does not have any factory recovery discs and Gateway support says they are no longer available from Gateway. They recommend purchasing and installing a retail version of Windows on the the replacement drive.

EDIT: Found a possible source that seems to be in the UK that offers downloads of recovery discs. Anybody hear of them or know if they are legit?

Hi everyone

Could any help me I have bought a new netbook which obviously has no CD/DVD Drive. I want to create a backup/recovery disc, when you go into it says it will take 2 blank DVD's. It then says no optical disc found. I connected it via an XSync cable to my laptop hoping I could do it this way but no! I plugged in my 500gb external hard drive hoping this was an option but it wasn't either.

Packard Bell say a 4gb flash drive or the hard drive should work. Any ideas how I can do this? When it say no optical disc found it doesn't give you an option to browse or send it to another drive.

Many thanks Jo

Hi all. All the discussion about a bootable recovery disc, and this article I ran across the other day. The article says you need the original installation disc. I have a machine that the disc didn't come with.

Vista SP1: Create a recovery disc - istartedsomething

If I don't have the original disc, can I still make a Recovery Disc thru SP1?
I know that there are a lot of places to download a ISO image from. In fact I downloaded one yesterday from a source in this thread.

Complete PC Restore- HOW??

But I am under the impression that it would be better to use a disc created after you have loaded SP1 if you have to do a repair?
The question is, will I be able to create a recovery disc after I have downloaded SP1 if I don't have the original install disc?
Or should I just create the one I have the image for and if I need to use it then Reload SP1 after I get running again? I am very new to computers and I will appreciate any and all help I get. Thank you.

A:Vista SP1: Create a recovery disc

Hi Ted,

Since you have a OEM Recovery installation dvd, you will need to create or download this ISO file to create the Recovery Disc instead of what was given by the SP1. You will just burn the ISO file to a DVD or CD to use it as a Recovery Disc.

If you type "System" into the search bar you will get "Create a System Repair Disc". You can make a recovery disc within windows yourself. This would be handy if you can not boot into the self healing Recovery options Menu or instead of using an OEM or Installation disc.. It takes about one minute to make a recovery disc.

A:Create a System Recovery Disc yourself!

Hi Aaron,

I do not think that is working yet in Windows 7. It will create one, but when you go to test it, it is a dud. The problem is that it does not ask for the Windows 7 installation dvd to be inserted, as it did in Vista, to add the boot files needed.

Did yours work?

I want to create a system repair disk from the system backup partition on my Thinkpad T410. I've got a couple of problems. On one hand, Microsoft's Create Windows Recovery Disc utility (I assume) works only from Microsoft's Windows ISO file, not from Lenovo's backup partition. On the other hand, Lenovo's Create Windows Repair Media program appears to write only thumb drives, not DVDs. Without going into details, this is both a concern and a practical problem. I expected to, and want to, create a repair disk (or disc), not a thumb drive.  Is there a way to create a DVD instead of a "media" from the backup partition? If not, I'm considering downloading Microsoft's Windows 7 image and burning a repair disk from that. But I think this is a poor solution because Lenovo has included drivers and utilities into the system backup partition that the Microsoft Windows image will not have. But I can't find information about what I'll miss if I use Microsoft's image instead of Lenovo's, and what (if anything) I could do to obtain the missing material. Can anyone help dispel the confusion?

Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1, IE8

I spent at least 12 hours burning iso, re-installing Vista, updating etc etc etc.
I just finished activating it by phone.
So, I decided to create a recovery disc so I won't be facing the same predicment again, ( I was just a computer beginner back then.)
I follow this tutorial published by Brink :
Create a Recovery Disc

Problem started in
9. Take ownership and Allow your user account Full Control (permissions) of the recdisc.exe file at this location (step 7).

In my C:/Windows/System32, I don't have recdisc.exe. I have recdisc

So, when I right click at recdisc, Take Ownership was not available.
If I skipped that and continued, when it came to Copy and Replace, it asked for confirmation, and when I clicked continue, it wouldn't let me. Said I don't have the permission.
I just re-installed the darn OS and I was the only user, hence the only admin.

So, what should I have done ?

Thank you.

t-4-2

A:unable to create Visa recovery disc

Hello T-4-2,

"Take Ownership" is not in the context menu by default. The link in step 9 shows you how to add it. You will have to take ownership of the recdisc.exe file with your user acccount first, then set permissions of the recdisc.exe file to Allow your user account Full Control.

Confused?
You thread states how can I create a Vista Recovery CD using your Laptop with Vista Basic.
You Can Not as your laptop maybe different than his computer.

Your Post states how can you create an XP recovery CD from Vista.
In the second case you can not. as far as I know.

You will need the original XP recovery CD or a retail XP CD to reinstall the OS on your friends computer

I have a laptop that came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Basic. Within 10 days of purchase, my hard disk crashed and was replaced. At that time the authorized service centre installed OS Windows Vista Business. I have created a set of recovery disc which contains the factory settings of my laptop (I mean which I got after hard disk replacement-Vista Business, and also contained promotional offers of 60 days free Norton Internet security and 60 days free Microsoft office).

I checked my OS for its genuineness status on microsoft's website. It reports my OS to be GENUINE.
Now my problem is "Is my OS really genuine?" I don't have the product key as the sticker which I got on the laptop contains Vista Home Basics's Product Key. I found the product key using a 3rd party utility that tells me keys of all installed softwares.

My next problem is I don't have a Vista disc. What I have is the recovery disc, which is very different from OS disc and is not useful in many situations. How can I get Vista ISO from recovery disc?

I believe if what I am trying to do is not possible, in that case can I get such an ISO from microsoft?
And if even that is not possible, if I somehow get a disc from my friend and then install Vista from it by entering my own product key(which I have discovered using 3rd party tool), will my installation still be genuine? Can I copy my friend's DVD for future use?

If your programs are designed for Vista, they will work in Win7.

EasyBCD claims it can handle dual boots Windows and Linux. But, being that Fedora is a cutting edge distro, it may have something new that EasyBCD can't recognize. I would call up EasyBCD to ensure that it works with Fedora 13.

There is another option for running Linux instead of dual booting. I use SUN's Virtual Box. It is a free virtual machine, similar to VMWare ( ~$160 ). So I can run Linux while I am inside Windows. Works great for me.

Since you're planning to install Win 7, I would save the money and not order a Vista disc.

I currently want to wipe out my computer and start from scratch as there is a lot of junk on it and too much of it to delete it manually.
I tried using the 'repair computer' option when windows starts by pressing F8 but I get the error message '0xc000000f' and something about how the boot failed because the device is inaccessible. My computer can start up normally, I only get this when I try to use the repair option.
I thought I would fix this by making a repair CD but when
I try I get the error message saying 'system repair disc could not be created, the parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)'
I thought I could get around this by downloading and burning a repair disc manually and it appeared to work until I chose the option to restore my computer to its original state, then it says something along the lines of 'windows could not find system image'.

My laptop is a hp touchsmart tmt-2050ea and runs windows 7 home premium

p.s. Im not sure if it helps but i think the recovery partition of my laptop was deleted , maybe reinstalling it would fix it... but alas I don't know how

if the recovery partition was deleted and unless you created the proper recovery disks when you first got the computer, then you are basically out of luck. You will need to get with hp and purchase a set.

you can go into disk management and see if the recovery partition is still there. just right click computer, click on manage, then click on disk management.

First off backup any data that you can't live without off of the computer and save it to a USB Flash Drive and by using an Ubuntu Live CD.
You can try your recovery CD and see if you get the option to Repair My Computer or to get to the Command Prompt. Here type chkdsk C: /R the Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.

I want to have a Factory Reset of my computer. In order to launch a System Recovery, I need to create Restore Discs. When I launch the Recovery Disc Creation, it says:

"This computer does not have a burning drive, which is required to make DVDs. Please contact HP Support for asistance."

My computer did not come with a build in CD Drive. Even plugging in a USB CD Drive will not make creating the discs possible. So. I ask you. How can I reset my computer to Factory Condition?

---

Computer Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)

Model: HP Pavillion dm3 Notebook PC

edit: This notebook came with a Recovery Partition built in. Maybe it can help?

A:Cannot Create A System Restore Disc(s) (Cannot do a System Recovery)

At HP logo press F11.
It should give you an access to recovery partition.

I'd also call HP to obtain recovery DVDs.

Dear Dell,
I am trying to create recovery discs from "Dell backup and Recovery application" however when i was asked to insert the second DVD,the optical drive keeps rejecting the DVD. The application will not continue to burn the second DVD and appears to be frozen. I tyied with different brands/makers of DVD and also -/+ R. Unfortunately .Issue remains. I was able to find this article   593906  Published on 2013-01-21  ( relative link http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=593906&doclang=en&l=en&s=dhs   ). Although i have done the updates ,i am still not able to create recovery discs !!   Current Issue:  after inserting the  3rd Disc application gives the following message "Dbr.exe -No disc found" and stays there and rejects the DVD.  I spoke with Dell's Greek Support team. I was told that warranty does not cover sw support even if my unit is less than a week old. Furthermore i was informed that although "Dell backup and recovery" application says DELL is not actually a Dell product thus they can't support it. They suggested my to use windows 7 file recovery instead (which needs at least 8 DVDs !). As you can understand this is a workaround and not a Solution.
I hope that someone from Dell is going to look into it and revert with a specific answer and permanent solution.   (Model  : inspiron 15  3521)&... Read more

A:Dell Backup and Recovery is Unable to Create a Recovery DVD on Windows 8

Hi ylikonomos,
You can try to uninstall and re-install Dell Backup and Recovery Manager and Dell Support Center. Follow these steps:

Press Windows+ 'X' key on the keyboard.
Select 'Programs and Features' from the context menu that appears on the left bottom corner.

Uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery Manager and Dell Support Center from the application list.

Hereafter, check the BIOS version installed on the laptop. Press Windows + 'R' key, type msinfo32 and press Enter.   Locate the BIOS version. If it is A04, the BIOS update is not required. If not, update BIOS. Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:* No external devices (printer, USB drive, SD card, DVD) should be connected.* All other programs should be closed and documents saved.* The AC adapter and battery should be connected during this process. The battery should be 10% or more than 10% charged.
Here is the link for BIOS update: http://dell.to/VBwSAh. The laptop will reboot after this update. Visit this link: http://dell.to/VBz1fr and click Dell Support Center. Download and install the application. Once done, visit this link: http://bit.ly/UUjIs0 and install Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. Reboot the computer and check if you are able to create the recovery media.
Please try these steps and share the status.

Hello,
I have a HP Envy DV6-7250CA laptop.
It comes with Windows 8 Home Ed. It also comes with preinstalled apps, etc. I create the HP Recovery discs.
But when I reinstall, it still has all the preloaded apps.

I was wondering, if is it possible to extract Windows 8 onto an ISO, and then with that disc, and my laptop windows 8 serial number, am i able to delete all the partitions, including hp recovery, etc, the uefi, etc. and start a complete clean and fresh install of windows 8 with no preloaded apps.

Thanks.

A:Is it Possible to create a Windows 8 Disc?....

Not really. It may be possible - but would be complicated, and I would have to have the machine in front of me to work it out.

It is best for you to get a clean installation iso.

Okay so I have searched online for how to create a Windows 7 Boot Disc, but to no avail. I have blank dvds, I have a legit operating system, and I have an activation code. I have no idea where to go from here and find boot files or installation files or create ISOs etc. Can anyone help me? I was hoping to clean install Windows 7 to regain some long lost speed.

I've had some instability problems with my Windows 7 system so was recommended by my computer manufacturer - HP - to do a repair installation using a repair disc.

Trouble is, when I go to Backup and Restore and click "Create a system repair disc", a window briefly flicks open then vanishes again, nothing more. There's no error message that I can see, it just opens and closes.

The computer otherwise works fine but I get BSODs occasionally, and worryingly I don't seem to be able to boot into Safe mode. I've done a virus sweep with Malwarebytes but it doesn't find anything.

Any suggestions? I don't have any other kind of Windows 7 installation disc, can I just download one? I do have the product key. Can I do a a repair installation with a Windows 7 installation disc? Will that keep my system intact?

A:Can't create Windows 7 repair disc

Hi first off Malwarebytes is not an antivirus scanner, it's a malware scanner 2 very different things. Please follow the instructions here NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help - Tech Support Forum If you cannot complete a step move on to the next, but make note of what you could not do,When finished make a new thread in the virus, trojan and spyware section and post the info there not here. Be aware they can be very busy and will get to you as soon as they can, if however you have no response within 72 hours use a Bump post in your thread to move it back to the top of the list.

I just became part of the Microsoft Refurbisher program, I purchased from a Microsoft Distributor a 3 pack set of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit dvd discs and with that I received a OEM pre installation training kit dvd disc and 3 OEM refurbisher disc and 3 OEM license stickers.

Question: I am trying to create a windows 7 home premium automated dvd disc to install windows 7 without having to watch the install process all the way through.

Is anyone familiar with creating an answer file with Windows System Image Manager?

I think I did create the answer file and tried to validate and save when I think I was done entering all the information. But I received an Internet Explorer error message....I added IE to the answer file even though it was optional...but when I tried to validate and save, windows system image said IE settings were not changed and in that case IE would not be saved as part of the answer file.

So because it was an optional IE program extras or thing, I wont really need it, and the automated windows 7 install will work fine when I try to install 7?

I saved the Autounattend.XML file to a USB jump drive.....And hopefully I can edit it later.

I updated a Lenovo Laptop from it's original Windows 8 (not 8.1) to Windows 10. The Laptop is working fine with all the updates and added apps install. Now, how do I create a reinstall, recovery or image disc in order to restore the OS prior to the time just before creating this backup disc? Again, this was an update to Windows 10, not a clean install. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I have found a plethora of advice on how to do it. They all say to insert a blank DVD, but nowhere can I find anything about size of disc or how to determine size in individual cases. Also, specific recommendations for disc (I have never burned a disc)?
