Vantage Custom battery charge threshold setting reverse to default

Q: Vantage Custom battery charge threshold setting reverse to default

Hi, I have an X1 yoga gen 2 since a bit more than a year, I like this laptop but to be honest there are a few annoying quirks. Pen not working properly since day one, keys marking the screen, disappointing battery, but that not why I am posting today, since the last 6 months, when then pushed the vantage software the battery threshold setting are not really saved, it works for a day or two and then revert back to off, charging the battery to 100%. I read it happen for other people after reaching 0% battery but that is never my case as I rarely go under 20% Any help would be appreciated. I am now out of warranty, so I would like to keep the battery healthy?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

But I have a question that does anybody have any idea about the recommendation of  Battery Charge Threshold setting values.  Thanks in advance.

Not sure where I'd submit a bug report, has anyone else experienced the following? I have my charging thresholds set to 80% in Lenovo Companion for my T470. However, it seem like half the time it will end up charging one or both batteries to 100%. What seems to happen is it charges to 80%, and it might sit there for a little while, and then a battery creeps to 81%, at which point it then gets charged to 100%. I'm assuming the code behind the threshold portion of the program is saying if charge == threshold rather than if charge >= threshold to determine when to cut the charging off.

I find it very disappointing to see the new version of Vantage lose the one-click battery threshold toggle button from its pop-up menu. At the very least make it an option in the new Quick Settings category. This is a big step backwards in UX for the sake of a "prettier" design.

I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 on my X1 Extreme and everythnig works flawlessly so I'd rather not install additional software like the Lenovo Vantage.Since the laptop is connected to my Lenovo TB3 dock most of the time, is there a way to lower the 95% battery charging threshold without using Vantage? A battery management command line tool perhaps? Also what would the ideal threshold be in my case?

It's great that Lenovo Vantage cares about the lifespan of our batteries and offers us a choice of charge threshold.  But it offers no guidance what maximum level to set, except that it should be less than 100%.  Lenovo must have studied the effect of maximum charge on battery lifespan, and I wish it would share that information with us.  Higher maximum offers a convenience for most users, but they might be willing to trade some of that convenience for some increase in battery lifespan.  We need data in order to decide.  For example, does even setting the maximum at 95% have significant livespan advantage vs. setting maximum at 100%?  Without knowing such things we're just bumbling in setting battery charge threshold.

My P51 battery is set to start charging when below 80% and stop charging at 95%.  (Lenovo Companion> Hardware Settings> Power> Battery Charge Threshold> Start Charging When Below 80%> Stop Charging at 95%).  I have my P51 plugged in all the time.  The battery always stays at 95% charged, it never reduces down to below 80% and then automatically recharges back up to 95%.  Obviously the P51 will run the battery down when unplugged and then when plugged back in it will recharge back up to 95% capacity and stay there. My older T530 had the same settings as my new P51 does but it honors the charging perameters  set by the T530's Lenovo Companion's Charging Threshold....The battery charge gradually reduces to below 80% and then it automatically recharges back up to 95%...Thus "exercising the battery".                       My question is two fold...1.  Why doesn't the P51 perform the same way that the T530 does using the same Charging Thresholds?2.  Isn't it beneficial for a Lithium Battery to vary it's charge vs. staying charged always at the same level? Curious...Altoid666

My guess is that the power management works the same.  Probably, the T530's cells are slowly losing charge over time and when it gets below 80% it charges.  The new battery cells probably lose charge also, but MUCH more slowly.  When it gets below 80%, it will charge.  If you want to vary the charge level, unplug it for a few minutes, occasionally.  I think Lithium cells degrade over time, but I think the degredation speed has more to do with ambient temperature and number of recharge cycles.

Hi! I have X1C 5th 20HR. I was using it with the Windows 10 Pro which came built in. I was using it with the battery charge threshold option (95%).After that, I switched to Ubuntu and clean installed it. I tried to change it (charge threshold) also with Ubuntu, but I failed. The battery was only charging up to 94 % all the time. I was okay with it.Yet, after several months, I had to change back to Windows. Now I have Win10 Pro again, but this time, whenever I try to set up a threshold, it is set for several seconds, and after that, it turns itself off automatically. I tried it like 30 times already with a different threshold, with different levels of battery charge, almost with an empty battery, but no result. Is this behavior expected? How can I fix it? I will attach my attempt as GIF file

Hi there, I just got my new Thinkpad X1 Tablet (gen3) and got some problem when using Battery Charge Threshold in the Lenovo Vantage app. I have set the Threshold to stop charging at 80% and start charging again at 75%. It works at first, for a few days I guess, and suddenly during the lunch time today, I locked the X1 Tablet (battery level 78%), going out for lunch, then I come back and the battery level is 100%. I then opened the Lenovo Vantage app to check, and Battery Charge Threshold is disabled. I have no idea completely, why this settings was messed up, I didn't open the Lenovo Vantage app and the setting was cleared. Can anyone help? Hi,I just activated battery "charge threshold" mode (with the default 80-85%). Let's say I need to charge the battery to 100% once a week, how do I do that without changing the threshold in Vantage? Thank you!

A:How to do a full charge when "charge threshold" mode is activated

You can turn off chargin threshold.  It should fully charge.  Then turn back on charging threshold afterwards.  I've done that on Thinkpads before.  Turn off charging threshold and once charged to 100% for a out of office business appointment then turn back on charging threshold.  A little error message pops up in vantage that something to the effect charging threshold wont take effect until battery level is below threshold limit.  The thresholds are still stored from when you turn charging threshold off and back on in Vantage.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 13 (9350-4891) with BIOS version 1.2.3 installed.
Here's what I'd like to achieve: The battery should only start charging at 60% charge or lower. In case that it's charging, the maximum charge should be 90%. So for example if the current charge is 74% and I plug the AC in, the battery should NOT start charging (because it's over 60%).
Here's what I already tried:
1) BIOS menu: Settings -> Power Management -> Primary Battery Charge Configuration. Then I selected "Custom" and entered the values from above. Result: No matter what the current charge is, the battery starts charging anyways when I plug the AC in. So for example if the current charge is 74% and I plug the AC in, the battery starts charging.
2) Dell Command Power Manager: I installed the software and set the settings like in the BIOS menu in 1). Same result as in 1). Charging starts, whatever the current charging level is.
3) Dell Command Power Manager: I also tried to use this software. Same result as in 1) and 2).

Thanks a lot for any helpful reply!

I'm having an issue where custom battery charge thresholds aren't being respected on my E5550 when I plug my laptop into AC power.
Steps to replicate:
Using Dell Command | Power Manager, set custom battery settings such that the battery will start charging at 80% and stop charging at 90%.
Unplug from AC power.
Discharge the battery to anywhere below 90% but not below 80%.
Plug-in to AC power.
Result:
The battery will charge when the laptop is connected to AC power despite the battery charge state being above the custom 'start charge' point of 80%.
Desired outcome:
The battery should not charge unless it is is below the custom 'start charge' point.

Using V 2.1.1 of Power Manager and the A13 (latest) BIOS.
This looks like a bug in the battery charger firmware to me. Anyone else?

In the previous Outlook Version, a user had created custom voting buttons, and she was able to reuse them each time she created a new email and new poll. She would then link this email to CRM as a stored email under a Customer in order for sales reps to view them in the field.

We now run Office '07, and the new version of Outlook appears to only save the custom voting button for the specific message- not as a default option to choose any time in a new message.

Does anyone know if there is a way in '07 to save the custom voting button as a permanent default??

Thanks in advance!!

1. Remove and export the class module
2. Change it to a txt file.
3. Add the following line to the Item property using Notepad:
'Attribute Item.VB_UserMemId = 0' giving:

Public Property Get Item(strKey As String) As clsStudent

4. Import the txt file back into the project.

The trouble is the addition is highlighted as a syntax error!

I am driven crazy by Battery Charge settings on T440 (Windows 10). It charges internal and external battery to 80% whatever I do. I can't change this (for example to increase level so as to maximise battery life when going on a trip). The controls in Lenovo Settings have no effect - ON/OFF, changing thresholds all do nothing. I have looked in the Registry and changed the Start and Stop Values for the specific batteries and also disabled both Start and Stop charge control - this has no effect after a system Reset although the new Registry settings are there. The same 80% battery thresholds are used when the device is switched off which must surely mean that it is not software controlled and some settings must have been passed to to the battery or charging system hardware. As far as I know I have the latest versions of Lenovo Settings, Power Manager etc. The fact that the registry settings are ignored leaves me nothing else to try. Any ideas?

I know that this came up before, at least with Acrobat (I run Acrobat 11 Pro). However, Win 10 also reverts other chosen default app choices to the MS app that handles the file type. JPG graphics are an example. My custom settings stick, even with Acrobat, until I reboot or perhaps a while thereafter. I've correctly edited the default apps through the Default apps system settings. Does anyone know something else that I can try? Thanks.

A:Win 10, Threshold 2 won't keep default applications choices

Hi, if you've also tried using Control Panel, Default apps to set your options, usually this problem turns out to be a permissions issue.
(Access the 'old' control panel e.g. via Windows key + X, click Control Panel.

You can try Tweaking.com's cautious repair tool to reset registry permissions, observing each step as it recommends, and you can inspect permissions on your C: drive or wherever Windows is installed.

(Rt click C:, Properties, Security tab)

Another possibility is this:
Do you have Sync your settings ON for your PC and do you have another windows 10 system running under your Microsoft account?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hey guys, my IdeaPad U41 shipped with Windows 8.1. My work, however, requires me to use linux as my operating system. I got to choose which distro I wanted to use though, so I went with openSUSE. The problem is, that I can't figure out how to set or unset the battery charging threshold. It is currently set to stop charging at around 60% to preserve battery life. Since I'm going on a trip tomorrow, I need this limit out of the way as fast as possible. Does anyone know of an easy way to achieve this in openSUSE (tumbleweed)? I know that some Lenovo machines ship with linux by default, so I figured there ought to be a way of doing this... EDIT:So, I spent some more time, googling the issue, and foud this tpacpi-bat-tool. It is targeted at ThinkPads and I wondered if it would work on an IdeaPad as well. I hesitated trying it out yet since I don't want to mess anything up.Any help is greatly appreciated. (I couldn't find a BIOS option or anything.)

Hi,  As it is not good for the durability of a lithium battery to be charged above 80% , and unplugging the power once the laptop reaches 80% charge is not really an option: I am wondering if it is at all possible to set the battery charging threshold/limit/maximum to 80% for an HP Laptop ? (For example by using any software or sepcial setting) So basically a tool that stops the laptop from charging the moment in reaches 80%, in order to increase the battery's durability. Other manufacturers (Samsung/Sony/Lenovo...) offer certain battery control tools in order to maximize the lifespan of the laptops battery. Is there a tool by HP/for HP laptops?  I am sorry if this is a repost or if this question was already answered elsewhere. I use a HP Spectre x360 and Windows 10. Thanks in advance!
