Toshiba Audio/Burning Issue

Q: Toshiba Audio/Burning Issue

First time poster here. My daughter just got a new Ipod and was burning some cd's to a Toshiba Satellite a105-s4504 and she told me the burning was taking way to long. She turned up the volume and the audio was horrible. It sounded like the cd's were horribly scratched and there was skipping and popping noises during playback while ripping. The audio of files already in Itunes is fine, and the cd's themselves play fine on my surround system which leads me to believe something is wrong with my drive or something else.

Does anyone have any ideas based on the info above. I would really appreciate any ideas you might have.

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Audio/Burning Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've recently bought a new laptop. It's an ASUS x54c. I have a bunch of videos on my external hard drive that I'm trying to burn to DVDs. I've used the Windows DVD Maker and also I've used Nero 7, which I've used both on my old computer and they both have worked fine, but both programs on this computer burn the video with no audio. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried updating the drivers, and I've tried also using an external DVD drive. In fact, the last time I tried it using Nero 7, I clicked on the preview button, before burning the disc, and the preview doesn't even have sound.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum for this since I have no idea if this is a hardware or software related problem but bear with me!

I purchased Toshiba Satellite C50D-A-133 yesterday, and I've spent most of today trying to set it up. First of all, it came with Windows 8.1. which is absolutely awful. It is a nightmare to use and there are several weird bugs such as shortcuts added to the toolbar not working and the system requiring a password even though I specifically changed it in the settings in a way that password should not be required when logging in on the computer.

However the real problem is that, for some reason, all sounds from whatever source (YouTube, Spotify, Ableton) are weirdly "high-passed", in the sense that no low or mid frequencies are audible. I cannot understand what the problem is and I'm starting to lose it since I've tried to fix it all day. I installed the latest Realtek driver which made no difference. I tried to Google the problem but didn't find any similar results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I have the above laptop and just installed a replacement M'board since the original board failed. Loaded vista home premium and now cannot get sound. I've tried every possible audio driver with no luck. I loaded Linux and the sound worked immediately so I know the hardware is OK. The audio hardware is identified as Conexant (Waikiki). No matter which driver I attempt to load I get an error message indicating that the hardware media doesn't recognize the driver. I have no other issues with this Motherboard, just no sound.

Does anyone have an answer to this dilemma? Your help is appreciated.

Ok, i'm new to this CD Burning. I have Nero Express, and i'm having a little problem with it.

I've copied an Audio CD to a CD-R, and it plays fine, but there are still space on it, and i wanted to put a MP3 (it converts to CDA really nice also) together with the already burned tracks, but i can't. Everytime i put the same CD, i get the folloqing message:

"This midia cannot be recorded
Please Insert another midia."

(Sorry if it's not right, cuz i translated from portuguese)

Can i do what i want?? How??

Sorry if it is hard to understand, it is hard to explain.

Thank you

A:Audio CD Burning with Nero Burning Rom

You cannot append any audio files to an disc that has been completed. Once a disc is completed it cannot access the remaining space. Especially with Nero Express. Once a disc is burned it is "closed (finalized)."

This is just a simple explanation.

I believe Roxio's Easy cd creator lets you add files to your disc as long as you don't "finalize" it. Until you finalize it you will not be able to listen to the music.

Notebook information: Toshiba Satellite L505-S5990, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

About a month ago I was on my notebook browsing clipart on Office.Microsoft.com when a window popped up in the lower right corner (taskbar). The only anti-virus I was using was Windows Defender and running IOBit360.

I will tell you what I remember. The window borders in the pop up were red, it presented itself as a Microsoft Windows product and it stated I was infected with a virus. There were 2 or 3 buttons to click and I clicked one of them which prompted me to buy the product, I did not do this. I closed the window, again and again, and downloaded several anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware free programs in addition to system optimization software. Several threats were found and removed (unfortunately I do not have the logs for these events) but the startup was getting slower and slower and I believe my settings were being hijacked. Over the last several weeks, I did a little amateur investigation to see what was running in the task manager. I came across a process that I was not familiar with and that I had not seen previously, taisregistpinger.exe. I performed about a half dozen factory restores which only seemed to make things worse until on 3/12/2011 after the last factory restore on the original factory hard drive, the desktop was now a blue screen with big bold red font that read: WARNING, your computer is now infected with malware/spyware (I can't remember). It had a coupl... Read more

The cute little Toshiba Record Now (DLA program --Drive Letter Access) that came with the laptop was locking the burned disk after any file was burned so I could not add any files.

The second I loaded files in the window of the SONIC NOW DLA program, it started automatically so I could not add any more files. Then nothing more could be added.

So I have a lot of discs with just a few files on them !!

Warranty is out--I didn't try to use this normal Windows cd burning feature the first year to see it didn't work. Now I would have to pay for help --unless someone out there can help me.

How do I get my cd options window that usually opens when you put in a disc back? No window pops up to say: play, open a window, do nothing, etc.

How do I get the option to add Send to CD drive D:/ (for burning)back on the menu when you right click a file or folder?

How do I get the option in the left hand bar of a XP window of files (File and Folder Tasks) that offers the file task of sending to a disk to the burner drive?

I disabled DLA on the Tabbed box in properties, thinking this might return normal Windows XP services. No effect.

I went into services, found imapi CD burning Com Service and made it automatic, restarted, but service is still not there.

I hope someone else has dealt with this successfully! Thanks for any help possible.

For some unknown reason, after I burn some CD's, many at first sound great; but, after a while, they mysteriously develop unwanted and annoying crackles and pops in playback, almost as an old vinyl recording. Many are like that immediately, and some never do it at all. To explain further, it's almost like a scratch in a record. Is there a reason for this? And, if so, can it be prevented.

Tech-support of a particular cd player I am using recommends I burn all my cds at 8x. WMP unfortunately does not use numbers in burning speeds but the terms slow-medium-fast-fastest. Can anyone please tell me which one is equivalent to 8x? I cannot use my Power2go because 10x is its minimum so I am stuck with WMP.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

A:burning audio cd

The burner drive's available burn speeds will determine what speeds to burn, not WMP or any other burning program. All that program does is allow you to select an available burn speed.

I have a recording studio and do a lot audio CD burning. I use 8X as my "standard" so the CD's will play in almost all audio CD players. Above 8X and some will not play the CD or will skip.

Almost all SATA CD/DVD burners will only go down to 8X (there is one LG model that will go to 8X but that's all I've found). I have a bank of 5 PATA (IDE) interface drives (USB connected) and they will burn at 8X. I use Nero Burning ROM. The free CDBurnerXP will allow you to select an actual available burning speed if you don't want to buy Nero. Roxio will allow you to select a speed too but I abandoned Roxio due to all the buggy problems they have had over the years.

Is it possible to burn it onto a DVD so that you don't have to waste all those cd's? If it is possible to do this, is a dvd-r ok to use? Also, can I play the dvd in my dvd player?

A:Burning Audio onto DVD

Yes you can burn them in a DVD disc as long as you have a DVD burner drive, appropriate burning software that support DVD burning. If you will use the DVD on your DVD player that will depend on what file type your player supports.

I want to burn music CDs that can play on my CD Player. Just wanted to ask if the player can play the songs if I just put them normally onto the CD, like you do with normal files, so about 300 songs can fit on one CD. Or do I HAVE to use the audio CD option, which counts by the audio length, and can only fit around 16.

Only if the CD player is MP3 compatible like some of the portable ones are now. If it's on your PC you can play it no problem.

A:Cd Burning: Audio

Hi Izzy,

I just had this happen to me a couple weeks ago, I use Nero 6 , and after the big update day, I was going about my business, messing around with my media library, and I kept getting the same error.

It seems to me like that error comes from using the wrong format for the program opperation, or that the output path for the file is in use.

Anyway, after a half of an hour, I got mad, and reinstalled it......problem solved, in my case anyway. I use the K-Lite Codec Pack, and although I love it's universal quallities, for some reason, it's the buggiest program I use, and find myself reinstalling it once a week or so.

Although, it also could just be something as simple as two programs stepping on eachothers toes, maybe you have another media player that shares the target .extension, and there is a conflict, I think that is my problem, the only thing is, I have to many media players with odd settings to mess up.

Hope this helps,

Please help me as I cannot burn any audio. My OS is XP. The programme used for the burn is "Record Now" but thats irrelevant because I now cannot use any other burn programme ie. Nero or Windows Media Player. What happens is that it starts converting and when the time comes for the burn it proceeds to 5% and then closes the disk. I replaced the drive (thinking it was a drive problem) still the problem persisted. I then did a full scrub of master and slave HDD thinking it was a virus. This fixed the problem short term. Three months later the problem arises again. Before I do a full scrub again, I wanted to know whether anybody else has run accross this problem. For extra information I can still burn DVD with full audio, pictures any other documentation just not audio. and for those who think its a licencing problem, there are no licenses on the music I am burning, just band stuff.

Hey,all. This is my first thread after joining this forum. Just to let u all know that this forum has been such a great help to me. Thank you tech maestros out there who shared your knowledge.

However, i have this problem that I don't think anyone has ever posted. I am using Nero burning ROM version Nero Start Smart i am using a Samsung combo Drive CDRW/DVD SM-352N 52x24x52x16x. I used a blank Imation CD-R to burn about 20 songs using Nero. The songs are in mp3 format and I believe Nero converts them to audio files because i chose the option >> make audio cd.

After burning the CD, I played it on my PC.It works fine with winamp and Windows Media Player. But when i play it on my discman, it skips. I could only listen to the first 4 songs and the rest was screwed up. Anyone who has a solution or who wants to share their same problem, just reply. Thanks in advance for the help.

I want to create compilation Audio CD's to play on a regular stereo system & on an in-car CD player.

I use NTI 2000 Professional.

I do not want to burn a whole CD at once; I want to be able to add more tracks at a later date.

However, I still want to be able to play the unfinished CD on the regular CD players, that is, to listen to all the tracks already created.

Can this be done with NTI 2000 Professional & if so, what software settings do I use when burning tracks?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Best wishes.

A:Audio cd burning

Are you sure that you are burning audio CDs from the MP3 files and not creating Data CDs with MP3 files on them? Most older home and car CD players will only play Audio CDs and not recognize any kind of Data CDs. Some newer players may be able to play MP3 files from Data CDs.

Real old players may have problems with burned Audio CDs.

Was trying to make an Audio CD of MP3's,
15 tracks totalled 180mb;However, the running
time was 78mins, and thus no more tracks fit.
So there is a 80min not 700mb limit on Audio CDs.

I converted from WAV to MP3 for the purpose of fitting
50 songs on a CD. Apparently, in audio burn mode, it is
not the file sizes but the running time that matters.
Thus, I could've set to 8kb/s low quality, but the running
time remains, and so I cant fit 3 studio CDs unto 1 CD.

Ifcourse, I could play my MP3&WAV CDs in the PC, or in the DVD player,
but the CD player doesnt play WAVs. Then whats the point of
burning MP3's on Audio CD's?

I've been burning audio cds for quite some time without ever having a problem. the various programs that I have used are record now, windows media player and winamp.

in the past few days, whenever I insert a blank cd my disc drive the automatic windows prompt asking me what I'd like to do with the disc (the bulk of the questions asking what program I would like to burn a cd with) does not appear.

whenever I try to burn a cd in any of the above programs it asks me to insert a blank cd into the drive. it will never recognize one of the blank discs.

when accessing the properties of the blank cd through my computer it says that it has 0 bytes free, 0 bytes used. these are from a new pack of memorex cdr's.

if it's of any relevance, the cd-burner drive is from a third party company and installed after the original cd burner crapped out. I installed it almost a year ago.

any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Probably because you dont have the correct codecs to read the audio. Download GSpot to see what type of codec the audio is using (probably AC3) and download the corresponding codec from www.freecodecs.com

I have read all the current burning cd problems hoping my problem would surface, but it did not show. I installed a Data Becker audio disk and have been burning mp3 audio disks successfully. But have hit a problem; when I load the burn catalog and click the burn key the screen says preparing to burn but nothing happens. The screen freezes and I cant get out of the program: have to turn off the power. Anybody familiar with Data Becker? Please help

Hey Techies,

I've been having trouble burning audio CDs for a lil while now and have no idea what to do or how to fix it. I run off Windows ME, Intel Celeron, 128MB RAM & I use Nero v7.0 to burn. I like Nero because it does the best job getting rid of the 2 second pause inbetween tracks.

About 3 months ago I noticed the problem first. When I burn tracks there are little glitches found in playback [basically when it plays thru a CD player there a little glitches where no audio is played and the music that should be played is skipped, almost like someone hit the mute button]. When I watch the burn process thru Nero I notice that the write buffer, which normally burns at a constant 98%, will sometimes drop to 96% which doesn't seem substancial but could be causing the problem. Also sometimes it seems that the tracks after track 1 start a hair later than usual.

I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the software a couple times & even tried a different company's burning software, but still no luck. I asked a friend of mine who is a degree in MIS and he suggested opening up more free space on my hard drive & fully shutting down instead of just restarting to get rid of all my PCs virtual memory. Tried both but still no luck.

So does anyone have any ideas, cause I'm stumped. Like I said before if there is a way to continue to use Nero that would be awesome cause I don't like that 2 sec delay. If anyone has any ideas I'd great... Read more

Hey, I am running windows xp on an athlon 2500 system with 480mb ram...for a few months now I have been running into problems every time I try to burn an audio cd. It used to work fine, but now it gives me an error, no explanation or anything, it just says burning failed (happens at around 5% or so). I have tried with Nero, Windows Media Player and MusicMatch but none of them work anymore. The really confusing part (for me at least) is I can still burn cd's in other formats without any problem at all. For the audio cd's, I've tried burning at every speed possible...I have freed up lots of disk space, defragmented all my drives, run scandisk, uninstalled and reinstalled all of my burner related software, checked for viruses, etc...everything I can think of but still no luck. Oh yeah, and my burner is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D...my whole computer is only a year old and I have had no previous problems until a few months ago when this one started.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is driving me insane, abd I have wasted countless cd's testing to see if it works again (which reminds me, I also run simulation mode every time I try it, and it always works fine with no error, but the actual burn messes up).

Have a file that's 1hr 20min 07 sec. When I try to burn with Nero I'll get the "Overburn" option where it will state possible damage to my computer if selected. Will it really screw things up if I try it?

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on this on, I'm don't burn audio CD's that much.

I converted my computer into a makeshift recording studio and decided to burn a few mini-cd's I had laying around. When I play a track I recorded into my computer back it sounds perfectly fine. But, after I burn it to a mini-cd and played it on a cd player is sounds bit distorted, especally when the volume is turned up.

Can anybody know of any good books or websites that cover CD recording or have any ideas as what's going on?

I have some avi video files and they play on my computer, video & audio are good. A few files that I have burnt come out having no audio when I play them back on my DVD player. I am thinking this is a codec problem, but I have downloaded a good codec pack and most of my video/avi files burn ok. Any suggestions?

You need to provide more details.

Run the problematic AVIs through GSpot and see what it says.

Can someone please confirm (or otherwise) that if I just want to copy some mp3's and wma's that are on my hard-drive onto a cd for back-up purposes (and not to play on another cd player) I can just do it via a data cd and don't have to do an audio cd. I have done this and can play it back via Winamp or WMP from the D drive so I think this is OK.

Also have done the same with my image files (photographs) which seem to be accessible via the D drive and then got a bit confused reading Nero's help file about creating image files etc.

Why would one need to create an image file via Nero just to copy some graphic files onto a cd for backup purposes?

A:cd burning - data v audio

Graphics files and mp3 files are just data files.

Audio relates to .wav or .cda files when you intend playing them on a normal stereo. In that case tell Nero to make an Audio CD and it will convert the files anyway.

I'm not an audio expert but I've heard a lot of people say that the free program called Audacity offers a wide range of features. Perhaps it can help you achieve your desired results. If not, I apologize for wasting your time and hopefully others will jump in with other suggestions.

Are you selecting the 'Audio CD' option in Nero ? If so does Nero go through the transcoding process ("Preparing Files, IIRC) or straight to burning the disc ?
