I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

[Update] I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled. But unfortunatelly, the same mistakes happen.I think it should be the issue of the sensor itself. Anyone knows how to replace the sensor? can anyone provide the instructions document? [Original Post]Can?t set up fingerprint login on my ThinkPad P70. Not sure what caused the issues. Windows 10? A:[Update]Can’t set up fingerprint login on my ThinkPad P70

Did you just recently install Windows Spring Creators Update (Version 1803)? It is known to mess with the fingerprint system. The solution is to reinstall the driver. You say your driver is up to date. But did you install it just now, or did you check the version number only? If you just checked the version number, I would recommend as a first step to reinstall the fingerprint driver.

Upgraded from Windows7 professional fairly smoothly. During upgrade Windows 10 required an un-install of the HP Protect tools and all of the associated files; I assume this was the program using the finger print reader when I first purchased the lap top The BIOS is set to allow the biometric device. Device Manager shows the ?Validity Sensor? and it is the latest driver 4.5.133.0. Did the setting change from gpedit.msc and went to Admin tab to allow use of biometric device and log in using biometric device. I even went to power settings and unchecked the attribute shutting off biometric as a power savingsUnder the windows 10 settings for Accounts under sign on options, there is no attribute for biometrics and/or face recognition. Hi,
I have HP EliteBook 2570p laptop with built-in fingerprint scanner.
I'm running windows 8.1 64bit Pro,
I have installed the validity biometric sensor (fingerprint) driver by HP, and managed to use the HP app for login (HP Client Security),
I tried using this guide:
Fingerprint - Add or Remove Fingers in Windows 8.1
to get the fingerprint login access, but I don't have that option, see the pic:

I contacted HP for helping me with that but all they could do is reinstalling the drivers..

I also tried using this guide:
Biometrics Sign-in for Users - Disable in Windows 8.1
to enable that although it suppose to be enabled by default, but still no goal..
I tried using the first automatic method, and also the manual, setting it like this:
but both failed..

Any idea how to make it work?

I have been using the fingerprint sensor to login for the past 6 months.  However, all of a sudden, today I am unable to login with my fingerprint or pin.  But was able to login with my microsoft password.  The error kept stating that they cannot recognise my fingerprint.  After i tried to key in my PIN, the error instead said I had to setup the fingerprint login before I can use that function, which of course I have done so, thats why i could login using fingerprints for 6 months up until yesterday.   I did not download anything significant yesterday, only downloaded various files uploaded by my school.  My McAfee antivirus  seems to be fully functioning.  I've restarted the laptop, and there was no change. Therefore I logged in, removed fingerprint access, added fingerprint access, which they also asked me to 'make a PIN' which i obviously have had a PIN beforehand.  Completed the PIN making and fingerprint access, shut down the computer, restart it, and i cant login again with fingerprint or PIN.  However, i login with password and go to settings and realise the fingerprint access is still activated. Hope you will be able to assist me in this issue.  Thank you

I wasn't sure if this was the place for this but here goes.

when using the fingerprint scanner on a network with pasword changes every 90days, does the fingerprint scanner on a lenovo laptop synch properly with a newly updated password? I have a user here who changed the password but the fingerprint scanner did not seem to recognize the change since when you first set it up it asks for your current password. Once setup correctly all you have to do is scan your fingerprint and it logs you in.

Just keeping a thread alive. I've found no solution. The inbuilt windows fingerprint reader software seems as if it could be a lot more graceful than the old IBM add on, except that I have to make all these extra clicks at login, instead of just swiping my finger. Hey guys! I got my T420s today and its a great laptop so far. none of these fan issues that alot of people seem to be having and everything is running great. I set up the fingerprint reader for when i login to replace my password login. The only problem now is that when i lock the computer to login again it says "other credentials" and then when i click on it, it says "Fingerprint Logon" and "Tommy Locked" and when you click on "Tommy Locked" it just logs you straight in and bypasses the fingerprint reader. I need to know how to remove the "Tommy Locked" option so i can only get in using the fingerprint reader. Can somebody let me know how to do this? I have had a look in control panel but i cant see anything.  Thanks,Tommy.

A:T420s fingerprint login issues.

When you say "logs you straight in and bypasses the fingerprint reader", you mean you have to enter your Windows password, correct?

Are you looking for a way to make Windows require you to log in with your fingerprint reader and not allow you to log in with only your windows password?  If so, what will you do if you injure your finger, or in case your fingerprint hardware stops working unexpectedly?

I can't find a way to use my fingerprint to login to the domain in Windows 8.1
It seems that Win8 is different that Win7 in terms of allowing for fingerprint domain login.  Based on what I found on another Win7 thread I did some modifications
and got this far in terms of fixing the problem:
In Administration Tools go to:
Local Group Policy Editor / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Biometrics

 Allow  the use of biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  domain users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured')
After this the PC will ask you to ?Lock? the PC and follow instructions.  I keep restarting the PC but can't get it to work yet; I'm probably misunderstanding
something or missed a step.

I just upgraded my lenovo T61p to Windows 7 Enterprise. It was using Vista business before. When i was on vista and i started or locked the laptop i was able to just swipe my finger on the fingerprint and it would log me on or unlock the laptop. I have set up the biometrics on in windows 7 but when i start or lock the computer it defaults to push Alt+Ctrl+Delete. If i push Alt+Ctrl+Delete it then give me the option of how to login (type in password, fingerprint, or guest).

How can i make it skip the Alt+Ctrl+Delete part and default to just give me option to scan my fingerprint or enter username like it worked in Vista?

Thanks for the help

I have an HP dv4-1430us laptop which does NOT have a fingerprint scanner. It came with Vista. With Vista, whenever the computer was started up it immediately went to my login screen and was prompting me for my password. All I had to do to login was start typing. Since upgrading to Win 7 (home premium 64 bit), whenever I start the computer I have a choice of login options. Instead of just typing my password, I must first click on either my login name or on the 'DigitalPersona' fingerprint logo. It's not like this is a major issue, clicking only takes a few seconds, but since I don't even have a fingerprint scanner....

Can anyone tell me how to disable the fingerpring login option? I tried searching, but could only find threads offering help to get it working, not removed. DigitalPersona does show up on my 'remove program' list, but I wasn't sure if that would just confuse Win 7 upon startup and lock up the computer.

TIA

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.

Maybe you can also give it a try.

You're not alone, and unfortunately it's been identified as a hardware issue. The BIOS message that you got is actually being used as a confirmation that the problem is hardware, not software. See this thread.

Hi! I have recently purchased a Thinkpad L480 and the fingerprint reader only worked very breefly after setup. Now, whenever I try to setup my fingerprint in windows hello the device seems as it would recognize a fingerprint without a finger on the reader (reader is clean). The fingerprint setup assistant shows a short flashing of the fingerprint icon as it would recognize a finger and then continues with only painting the innermost line of the fingerprint red and stops to detect any input. As mentioned breefly after windows setup the fingerpringt scanner worked. After a relog the scanner stopped working. I tried deleting and setting up a new fingerprint, when the problem first occured. All drivers are up to date. Good day and welcome to the community. If you're unable to change anything in the BIOS, then there is a supervisor/admin password set. The only way to remove it is to know it. There are no workarounds, backdoors, or master passwords. If the password is not available the only option is to contact Service to discuss a system board replacement.Regards.

Hi,The fingerprint scanner LED on my W530 died. Here are the symptoms: - Fingerprint reader is not recognized in BIOS -I deleted the driver and its files from device manager but the TouchChip finger print processor reinstall itself.  The properties for the device is:Device Type: biometric devicesManufacturer: AuthenTec (I think the company has since been acquired by Apple)Location:  Port_#0003.Hub_#0004 - The following message shows up in the event viewer:  "Driver Management concluded the process to install driver tcwbfadv.inf_amd64_5a48bf8b68a239ce\tcwbfadv.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_147E&PID_2020\6&387E66F3&0&3 with the following status: 0x0." - ThinkVantage fingerprint software doesn't find the fingerprint reader I concluded that this is a HW issue with the scanner.  I ordered a new fingerprint scanner for someone in China which looked just like the original (one never knows).  I installed the new scanner to no avail - no LED.  The cable connected to the fingerprint scanner is shared with the mouse. Since the mouse is working OK, there is a good chance that the cable is OK but I cannot be sure. Anyone has any ideas on where I should go next?  It appears that the TouchChip fingerprint processor is working but something else is failing.

Hi!
I`ve just bought new Latitude 5480 and i doesn`t seems to be working fine.
For the record, today Dell technician did replace my motherboard and palmrest. Fingerprint reader was reading my fingerprints with 1 to 15 success rate :) NFC once was working, other time was not, and the space between fingerprint and NFC reader was getting very hot. After replacing fingerprint is working much better, NFC stops working, and getting hot issue still occurs.
I don`t have a smartcard to check is it working or not.

Anyway...
I am trying to configure Windows logon by fingerprint and/or NFC feature. Because Dell didn`t provide me any software (only drivers) I am trying to achieve that with windows Hello. After I configure it, it saves my fingerprint and asks me for PIN (it says that is "just in case of fingerprint problems"). When I try to logon only two methods that appears to me is standard password and PIN. It doesn`t respond to my finger at all, without any error message or nothing else- just like the fingerprint didn`t exist.

I still don`t know how to configure to logon to my computer with my smartfone. To older models Dell provides Dell Data Protection software that includes all of that features. In my laptop I don`t have any of it and I pay a lot of money for that business device.
Do You have any ideas?

Good day,

Is there a log file or syslog, that contains detailed information about login steps? I have a problem with login. This morning I had to log in 3x. 2x the log in just failed silently(the screen blanks 1x, then the moving dots appear and the login times out silently). It is getting frustrated that my login takes 3-6 minutes :D
Also, the fingerprint reader is pos, if you pardon my french. Half of the time it is not initialized, when laptop wakes from sleep and if it works, I have to try really hard to get my fingerprint recognized. Is this the part, that did not pass Q/A, but was thrown in anyway?
Somebody could make a fortune selling fingerprint covers, that blend seamlessly with hand rest, so that I could forget, that the fp reader exists at all :D

I finally got Windows 10 installed via the update method from Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  But now I am unable to get the fingerprint scanner to work. It shows up in Device Manager as working okay and drivers installed. However in Win10 Settings, Logins, the option to enable the fingerprint scanner does not appear.  Now what? One of the prerequisites to enable the fingerprint scanner in Win10 is to first set up a PIN login, which I did. After that and rebooted  I was offered the PIN signin, which worked.  But STILL, nothing I could do would let me setup the fingerprint scanner in Windows login settings. After much trial and error, I have finally found a way to get the fingerprint scanner on select HP laptops to work with Windows 10 ?HELLO?. First, one needs to verify that the machine has the required scanner. The scanner is usually already installed in Device Manager, but not recognized anywhere else. RELEVANCY SCORE 51.2

Hello everyone, today I received my X1 carbon 6th gen. Upon setup, I couldn't complete the fingerprint scan and received the message that the device has disconnected. After the initial setup, I tried to complete the fingerprint scan again, but I only got the same message that the scanner was disconnected. I looked around online and found some forum posts about the uninstalling drivers and installing new ones. I followed all the information I found but to no luck. Maybe I was looking at the wrong drivers online or something. Any help is greatly appreciated!
