Dreaded Expired Self-Signed Cert; ATA is dead; how do i remove and replace?

Q: Dreaded Expired Self-Signed Cert; ATA is dead; how do i remove and replace?

So, like many of us who dont have resources to monitor every little detail of our network/infrastructure, and rely on products being self-sustaining, i did not know i would lose my ATA investment because a cert expired. Where else does that happen?
How can there not be any kind of recovery option for ATA Admins if they didnt catch the cert renewal in time?
That said, since it already happened, it looks like my only option is to start over from scratch. Does anyone have all the steps needed to remove my current ATA infrastructure completely, and then build a new one in its place? I know where the
docs are for deploying a new ATA, but my scenario includes an existing, dead ATA deployment that cant be undone normally because i cant get into the system to "undo it". I would appreciate any guidance on the best approach for removing an ATA
Center and two Lightweight Gateways (and anything else i've forgotten that i would need to know). And then for starting over, is there anything i should know when about deploying a new ATA Center when an existing one was present. Finally, is there
anything i can salvage from my dead ATA?

Preferred Solution: Dreaded Expired Self-Signed Cert; ATA is dead; how do i remove and replace?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Our Nessus vulnerability scanner has been flagging our computers with the following vulnerability: SSL Certificate Signed Using Weak Hashing Algorithm

Basically what it's telling us is that we need to upgrade the local Remote Desktop Certificate from SHA1 to SHA2.

These certificates are self-signed and self-generated by the local machine. If you look at the certificate you'll see that theIssued to: and Issued by: fields show the name of the local machine.

The question is: how do these auto-generated, self-signed certificates, which are currently SHA1, get upgraded to SHA2? Remember, these are not created by the local Enterprise CA, they're auto-generated by the local machine itself for Microsoft-branded software such as AD and RDC.

Looking for ideas/suggestions on how to do this.

Hello All,

I just found out the the self signed cert I was using on the center machine has expired. I figured no big deal I will change out the cert and everything will be fine. I tried to go to the web page to login to ATA and found not page available. I notice the

We've installed ATA in our demo environemnt more than a year ago.
When I verified the config, I noticed that the ATAcenter and ATACOnsole certificate are expired.

Because of this, none of the ATA services can start, and I'm not able to renew the certs from the ATA console.

Is there a way to manually update the certificate, without the need to use the console?

Looking for the ability to block websites with invalid certificates. There is a GPO setting that by default is enabled to not allow the ability to bypass a certificate error for revoked certificates. However, this does not work with Expired Certs, Server

I would like to replace working certificate for the localhost (, with an end date in a few months. (Win10 - Edge - IE11)
I managed to create a certificate (made a copy form the previous one with Powershell), and imported it in the list of Trusted Root Certificates. I removed the previous certificate.

But Edge (and IE11 since I suppose Edge has no support for this yet) is still pointing to the old certificate.
Does anyone know how to make the browsers point to the new certificate?

I am trying to replace the auto generated self-signed (Issued to DM, issued by DM) certificates for the HDPM Server and Master Repository.  I am NOT refereeing to FTPS, the HPDM Embedded HTTPS Server, or the Thin Client Agent certs.   I have already setup certs from our own domain internal CA for FTPS in IIS and the Apache Embedded HTTPS server.  These are working fine and Repository tests pass for both protocols.  I have also issues to the Thin Clients from our internal CA just fine. I'm interested in the actual HPDM Server cert and Master repository cert. These are self-generated when the two services start up.  They use a very weak MD5 hash and RSA 1024 key.  I cannot find any documentation around this except for troubleshooting in which you can delete these certs restart the services and they will be regenerated.   Here are the certs\key paths%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Controller.crt (Repository Cert)%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Controller.key (Repository Key)%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Client.crt (HPDM Server Cert)%HPDM Install Path%\Server\Bin\hpdmskey.keystore (Both HPDM Server and Repository Certs and Keys)(Not sure the format it is in.  It's not PEM and ok P12 as far as I can tell) There is also %HPDM Install Path%\Server\bin\hpdmcert.key.  Not sure what this is.  Think it?s the HPDM Server key but deleting it does nothing and it is ne... I actually like this movement. I want things signed. I barely use any extension in the first place in Firefox. I can even list them as follows:
-Personas Plus

From Apps
-Norton Toolbar
-Skype CLick to Call
-WebSling Player
I don't mind if all of them are signed. I want Microsoft to follow as well with their new browser system.

I've been trying to reach Lenovo customer support through phone number but nothing is working. I keep getting a dial tone and then call is hung up automatically (really frustrated how they don't even have an email address). Since I just dropped my laptop and the parts that was bent are FRUs only, I was wondering if Lenovo will still take mine in out-of-warranty (it expires on 11/28/18). Although only the two corners of the keyboard are bent, they're pretty noticeable and I'm fine with paying for repairs as long as it's reasonable. Thanks guys!

I have two computers that came with McAfee Antivirus software, and now that the subscription period is over, they no longer have any obvious function, and I would like to remove the program to free up some resources. I've yet to do so, because I'm not sure if the program still provides any protection or not, since it throws false positives for trojans when I run HouseCall. I'd like some insight from you knowledgeable folks over here.
The machine I'm currently using is an Iconia W500 tablet running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with McAfee Antivirus Plus which includes Security Center (version 11.6), Virus Scan (v. 15.6), Personal Firewall (v. 12.6), Site Advisor (v. 3.6), and Quick Clean & Shredder (v. 11.6). My other computer (which I am unable to access right now) runs 64-bit Windows 7, and has a similar McAfee suite. I use Ad-Aware and HouseCall on both machines, and the more powerful one has MalwareBytes, and I am not opposed to installing antivirus software to replace McAfee, but I'm not sure what to use.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for reading.

A:Should I remove McAfee once it's expired?

It is always recommended to keep any ONE antivirus on your computer. If you have more than one keep only one which you like and remove the others. If you have multiple antivirus it will create issues to each others and will make trouble to both. If you want McAfee, go ahead and purchase the license so that you will get protection from McAfee in future too. If you like Malwarebytes go with them. But never go for 2 antivirus in one PC.
You can remove McAfee if you do not wish to purchase McAfee for future use since it is not going to help you without a license.

ginejil Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about replacing your hard drive and restoring your Desktop to working condition and wanted to help. In terms of replacing the hard drive, this links to the Upgrading and Servicing Guide for your PC: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02067973 Instructions for replacing the hard drive begin on page 9. In terms of restoring your PC, ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If HP no longer carries your recovery media, here are some other sites you can try: http://www.computersurgeons.com/  and http... Trying to work through this cleanup on my brothers laptop. It`s a Dell Inspiron 5000 running 98se. I believe the Norton to be just 2003 antivirus that has been expired, and not updated since April 2004. Any odds takers out there(LOL) as to if I will be successfull at trying to remove it through add/remove programs, and not have any problems? I have done some research, and it looks to me like Norton can sometimes be a little glitchy when it comes to removal. I have never had to remove an anti-virus program before, so any tips like what it will ask me I want to do, such as keeping, or removing items would be appreciated. I mean this is my brothers, so the last thing I need to do is foul it up. I want to hook him up with AVG 7, but am pretty sure he needs to remove Norton first(have heard you shouldn`t run 2 anti-virus software on the same comp). Any tips/suggestions/odds(LOL) will be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

My Acer 7750G all the sudden showed a black screen, shut off and won't boot. I've had it for two years. The battery had been lasting less and less in the past year. That day I had been using the laptop unplugged for an hour or so, but when it went dead I'm pretty sure it was plugged in.

When I try to turn it on, the power button and the "light bulb" light blink five times and that's it.

When I take out the battery and try to boot, the blinking stops but it's still dead. Taking out the power cord makes no difference.

I also tried taking out the battery and the power cord and then pressing the on button for 60 seconds, but there was no response and no blinking.

Can this be fixed by replacing the battery?

Continued from: This troubleshooting thread
I recently posted a thread asking which video card brands were better than others (support, warrenties, etc...)
Now I need some advice I buying a video card, because my computer's previous Radeon X300 died.
I have a 305 watt, generic Dell PSU.
+5V = 22A
+12VA = 18A
+12VB = 18A
-12V = 1A ?
+3.3V = 17A
+5VSB = 2A ?
combined max 12VA and 12VB = 22A...
Check my sig for the rest of my computer hardware.

I should probably get a new power supply, but my budget can't really support the extra ~$60 for a good Antec, Corsair, or Thermaltake, because I am saving up for a new computer.
My computer has a x16 slot, so I am not looking to upgrade, just a repacement of some type, same power requirements.
After checking around I think my PSU could support a 7200 GS, 8400 GS, Radeon 3450, Radeon 4350, or Radeon 5450.

$30 - GIGABYTE HD 4350 512MB 64-bit
$33 - MSI 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit
$41 - SAPPHIRE HD 5450 512MB 64-bit
$42 - XFX HD 4350 512MB 64-bit
$47 - ASUS HD 5450 512MB 64-bit

These are the cards I have my eye on, any thoughts, opinions?
Please don't laugh at me and tell my to upgrade my computer, I just want to be able to use the computer again with out spending $150+

A:Trying to decide between a few budget GPUs to replace my dead Radeon X300

An Radeon HD 5450 is the best for the money you want to spend. The ASUS HD 5450 is out of stock so get the SAPPHIRE HD 5450

Will some tell exactly what I need to remove Windows NTR from a machine and replace it with Windows 95 or 98.

I tried the method in "How to Manually Remove Windows NT or Windows 2000 (Q103049)". By following the procedure in this article, I landed into more trouble.

The system admin I asked is giving me a run around as in try this try that....

So what do I need and what do I do with it.

So far what I know is that I need a beet disk. What do I need on that boot disk (the name of the files an where do I get those files) ????

When I boot my machine using that boot disk, what do I type aat the prompt, in order to wipe out Windows NT4.0 from my machine.

I have just lent what I thought was good boot disk to a friend of mine. When she tried to use it, she got the following error:

"Couldn't Find NTLDR"

6.0 Error Messages

6.1 Couldn't Find NTLDR
This message is displayed if the file NTLDR is missing from the root of the C: drive. You can copy the file to C:\ from either the CD ROM or floppy disks.

To copy NTLDR from the CD ROM, make the CD ROM your current drive and enter the command:

copy \i386\ntldr C:\
To copy NTLDR from floppy disk, insert Disk 2 in your disk drive and make that drive the current drive. Then enter the command:

expand ntldr.$ c:\ntldr

A:How do I Remove Win NT and replace with Win 95.

Don't use the NT setup disks to boot the PC. Go to a Win98 PC and create a boot disk and also put format.com and fdisk.exe on it. Boot to that disk, change to the A: prompt and type fdisk and enter. Select delete partition....option 4 I believe, then select delete Non-DOS partition if it is an NTFS partition...confirm the deletion and esc to the A: prompt again. Reboot to the disk and change o the A: prompt and type in FDISK....select option one to create a partition....confirm the creation and reboot. Now you should be able to boot to the disk and either run format C: /s from the boot disk or use a Win98 setup disk to begin the installation. I don't have the link for a good boot disk with CD-ROM support, but there is plenty of info out there to tell you how....google will give you all the links you could want

How can I remove Vista from my Acer laptop and install WindowsXP/SP2

A:Remove vista & replace with XP

I presume that your laptop came with Vista (I know it sucks). However, you should find out if there are drivers available for XP from Acer for your specific notebook's model. If not, then you needing a license for XP, and an installation disc is irrelevant. Because, no drivers = no good.

Everything seems to be working well, eccept that this computer has only four USB ports, two in the back and two in the front (actually five - there's a Ethernet cable connection, too). Both the keyboard and the mouse are connected by USB connections as well as the speakers. When I add my wireless adapter card, I've occupied all four USB connections. But, the HP All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier also requires a USB connection!
I tried removing the USB Mouse and driver and replacing it with a Non-USB mouse (plugs into the green jack in the back), but I've had no success.
Is there a way to do this? Or, is there some other way to get around my
shortage of USB connections?

I'm in need of a bit of help. How do I remove vista and replace it with XP?

I don't have a floppy drive, so I don't have a boot disk option.

Advice greatly appreciated.

If you have a legit XP disk it is bootable. Just set the bios to have the CD/DVD drive at a higher boot priority.

I have a dell inspiron 15 7537. A couple of times recently it would not boot and no light came on when the power was plugged in. The first time I took it apart and then it worked and so I started adding things back in and it kept working. When it happened again I only removed and replaced the battery and then it worked. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks in advance.

I have an Aspire E 15 E5-575-52JF that I purchased earlier this week from Best Buy.  Wanting to upgrade the RAM and HD, I flipped the laptop over to remove the battery.  Guess what....  no removable battery that I can see.  And while I'm at it, does anyone know where I can find a service manual for this beast?

I'm selling my Windows 8 laptop and need to find out how I remove the current account and replace it with the prospective buyer? The laptop came with Windows 8, there were no recovery disc with the purchase so I used Reflect to create an image after the laptop was setup.

The laptop still has our account we used at set it up on the first boot up of the machine.

I went through the Tutorials but I couldn't find my situation.

I suspect it can be very easy to change so I'm looking to see if anyone here has gone through this before and can help me with my situation.

A:How do I remove & replace the current acccount

Hello Greg,

One way would be to create a dummy administrator local account without a password for the buyer, sign in to it, then delete your account. This way the buyer can create their own account.

Since you are selling the computer, I would recommend to reset Windows to start fresh, and just setup a local account without password during the reset. This way there will be no trace of your files left on the computer.

I would like to replace the MS account login ( a Hotmail account ) with an other account ( Outlook ). The problem that I am having is updating from Win 8.0 to 8.1. I've lost control of the Hotmail account and when I try to reclaim the account, the HAL 9000 at MS HQ can't do that. I can log onto Win 8.0 with the Hotmail account and password, download 8.1, and go thru the various EULA and preference screens. I then come to the log on to your MS account at which point the update chokes.
Any and all help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

If you decided to uninstall Office 2007 and then install Office 2003 would there be any hesitation on your part? I only ask this because uninstalling a program like Office 2007 can leave large amounts of registry information which may or may not impede a new computer?s performance. I was told to just uninstall like normal and run CCleaner to remove the registry entries that it finds. I haven?t decided to do this yet but if I do, any thoughts?
