Unable to update deployment share for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010

Q: Unable to update deployment share for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010

I'm attempting to use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to deploy Windows 7.  When I attempt to update the deployment share, I get the following message: "Unable to mount the WIM, so the update process cannot continue."Not surprisingly the boot folders do not have the proper files created for the Win PE (which is the goal of updating the deployment share).

Preferred Solution: Unable to update deployment share for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to update deployment share for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010

Pulled this from the help docsFailure to Update WIM Files
In a ?simple? environment:
·         For Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008, MDT 2010 locates WIMGAPI.DLL in C:\Program Files\Windows Imaging, which should be in the system PATH. The WIMGAPI.DLL should not reside in C:\Windows\system32: It will be present in the C:\Program Files\Windows AIK directory tree, but MDT 2010 rarely uses it from that location.
·         For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, MDT 2010 typically picks up WIMGAPI.DLL from C:\Windows\system32 (always in the path). The version of this WIMGAPI.DLL must match the version (build) of the operating system.
·         On a 64-bit operating system, MDT 2010 always uses the x64 WIMGAPI.DLL file; only that file should be in the system PATH. On a 32-bit operating system, MDT 2010 always uses the x86 WIMGAPI.DLL file; only that file should be in the system PATH. (Other products, such as System Center Configuration Manager, use the 32-bit version of WIMGAPI.DLL, even on a 64-bit operating system, but they manage and install that version.)
Problem: When attempting to update a deployment share, the user will be informed that the mounting of one or more .wim files did not succeed.
Possible Solution: Open a Command Prompt window and run where WIMGAPI.DLL. For the first entry in the list (the first location found by searching the path), ensure that the Version property matches the build of the Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK) that is installed. On Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 machines, ensure that the property also matches the operating system build number.

I have a friend with the following issue (his description):
PXE-E79: nbp is too big to fit in free base memory

Creating a LTI using MDT/WDS. Currently I am trying to deploy Windows 7 onto a referance PC. I cannot avoid getting this error message from every machine I try PXE booting from, "pxe-e79 nbp is too big to fit in free base memory." Has anyone seen this before? I am currently using MDT 2012. The client machine's have 4 - 8 GB's RAM. My LightTouchPE_64.WIM file is about 1001MB. Can someone please shine some light on what could possibly be happening here?? Also, I have rebuilt this 3 times on my Win 7 workstation and once on my VM Server '08 R2 all with same results...Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

It's driving us crazy. Any suggestions or even just ideas of where to look? Thanks in advance!

I have MDT 2010 setup and am in the process of setting up a 2nd share, I created the share with no issues, and created the "link" without issues as weel. I am now trying to get the linked share to replicate, and am getting an error that the "everything" profile is not valid, when it does exist on the new share. I even tried creating a new profile and setting it to that one, still get the exact same error. Has anyone else seen this?

A:MDT 2010 linked deployment share issue

Figured it out, if this ever happens to you, delete and re-create the 2nd share (the one you want to replicate too) then re-create the link and update. Something must have gotten corrupted.

You sure you install the right Java?

Look and there are the "Java SE Development Kit" versions also.

You want "Java Platform, Standard Edition", JDK 6 Update 20, (JRE).

Note: To develop Java applications and applets, you need the JDK (Java Development Kit), which includes the JRE.

So you want Download JRE

Get the JavaRa to help you uninstall the java and clean things up. Then install the Download JRE

Security researcher Tavis Ormandy has uncovered and publicized a serious flaw in the Java Web Start plugin which allows for arbitrary code execution in any browser that has the plugin installed. The vulnerability has been confirmed to affect Windows and may also affect Linux.Oracle, which recently acquired Sun Microsystems, the developer of Java, does not seem to believe the flaw is serious enough to patch it immediately. According to Mr. Ormandy, when he advised Oracle/Sun of the flaw they responded that they "do not consider this vulnerability to be of high enough priority to break their quarterly patch cycle."The vulnerable plugins are identified as the Java Deployment Toolkit ActiveX control in Internet Explorer and NPAPI in Mozilla Firefox.Further reading:The Register articleFull Disclosure advisory

Computerworld - Oracle today patched a critical Java vulnerability that is being exploited by hackers to install malicious software. The security update to Java SE 6 Update 20 patches a bug disclosed last Friday by Google security researcher Tavis Ormandy, who spelled out how attackers could run unauthorized Java programs on a victim's machine by using a feature designed to let developers distribute their software. Hi all,
I have added a new set of drivers (Latitude E5570) to the deployment workbench. After importing the drivers I ran the update deployment share.

However when I try to start the Deployment on a workstation (via USB flash drive) I'm receiving an error that states "A connection to the deployment share could not be made. Connection OK. Possible cause: invalid credentials.

If I image any other workstation that already have drivers (HP/Dell) in the deployment workbench, the image installs with no issues.

If I'm missing any details please let me know, and any help will be appreciated.

I've been running disk and system maintenance on my computer, and sfc found some corruption it couldn't repair. It looks like it's .NET framework 4 that has the errors, so I uninstalled it and its updates, then reinstalled it and updated it, but the problem remains. Since that didn't solve it, I'm not sure if that's where the problem is or what to do about it. Anyone know which files I need to look at before I resort to doing an upgrade/repair installation?

I am a network administrator using MDT 2013 to roll out Windows 8.1 machines to my organization.  The process is working well.  The issue I'm having is that after the machine is imaged, each user that logs into the machine and tries to use a webpage
in IE 11 that utilizes DOM storage doesn't work as expected.  The Developer Tools indicate that there is a "SCRIPT5: Access is Denied" on a line that tries to store something in the 'localStorage' object via JavaScript.  This page
will work on other browsers, and on other Windows 8.1 computers that are running IE11 with the same internet options set.  After googling, I found this page: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/066767a5-f9d5-45f4-95cf-dcd0ff030090/script5-access-is-denied-error-when-accessing-web-sites-using-localstorage

I had to use Process Monitor to determine where the computer was attempting to create the DOMStorage folder, because it wasn't in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore, like the linked articles indicated, but rather in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows\AppCache.

Hello there.I am very new to MDT 2010, so please take it easy.I was running the RC and managed to successfully build a test Win7 image from a Reference machine. I did this by deploying the standard Enterprise image, but rather than 'capture' it straight after, I did some test tweeking to the image, as this is what our company requires. Once happy, from the reference machine, I opened up the "litetouch.vbs" script from the DeploymentShare$\Scripts and invoked a 'sysprep and capture' task I had previous created. This ran perfectly, created my custom OS back to the server and I was then able to deploy it to my test target.OK - so I was quite excited by all this - so far, so good.Yesterday, I installed the new 'final release' of MDT 2010 and I spent some more time on my reference machine, making sure it was 'perfect' as a base release.Once happy, I browsed back the DeploymentShare$ to run "litetouch.vbs" and although the wizard does start, allowing me to choose a Task Sequence and take me through credentials - at the end of the wizard, it just ends - no job is started.Sometimes when I run the .vbs, I get a 'wizard error' popup ...  "A connection to the deployment share () could not be made. The deployment will not proceed".Things I have done: rebooted both client and server. Recreated the 'sysprep and capture' job. Updated the MDT.Can anyone help?

A:a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

I hit this problem yesterday with two Dell PCs. I use MDT 2010.
The error message was totally off...
The problem in BOTH cases was caused by bad local hard drives. Diskpart's "clean" fixed the problem.

Hi All,
We've had a reference build for Windows 7 to capture up and running for years, no problems. We've not changed anything I can think of in this build for a good while. We generate a new baseline image every few months, installing all the latest patches in
it so it's patched before being installed in production. For years all so far so good!
Since the last time we did it, we're now getting it failing to install the apps (all hosted on a share on the same server as the deployment share), it quickly became obvious that the issue is when we're trying to connect to the server that hosts the deployment
and app shares we're now being prompted for credentials which we didn't used to.
To make it more interesting we look after another infrastructure, and the Windows 7 reference build there is still fine...
Any ideas?

Hey all,

I've now got the need to upgrade all workstations from Office 2007 to Office 2010.

I've read through TechNet posts and see that i can edit the config.xml file, but i'm not too good with editing stuff from scratch, i'm easier to make use of a template and change the variables.

Can anybody guide me in the right path?

Ideally, someone could have a HTML page where you enter all the details and it provides a config.xml file at the end - anybody know of something similiar?

We are using a virtually server and cannot add any software at the Exchange server level. We have office in the US and Canada.

Our PC's are running Windows XP with Outlook 2010. We would like Outlook to send / respond to e-mails that are assigned to the Canadian Contacts category, or that have a .ca extension to their e-mail addresses with a separate signature (Canadian Address info) than the standard one.

Templates rules simply send a blank e-mail with the proper signature (Does not allow us to type anything before sending) so that didn't work. The only custom action we could perform would require purchasing 3rd party software to accomplish this. We are considering this.

The other option seems to be writing a script to perform this action but we have no idea how to accomplish this. Should we attempt ourselves or hire a coder?

Any feedback in solving this issue is most appreciated. Thanks.

A:Solved: Creating a Rule in Outlook 2010 for signature deployment

The Outlook object model has an event called ItemSend that is fired when you attempt to send the email. You just need to add some logic to grab the email addresses from the .To field and if it contains the format or string you are looking for you can add the signature programatically.

Google Outlook ItemSend for more info and and also take a look at the link below that explains how to add the signature using VBA.

Not really sure where to post this question so if there's a better forum just let me know.
We bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dn printer and I set it up today.  Installed it on my printer server and set it to deploy using group policy.  Seems to be working fine on our Windows 7 desktops but I have a Windows 8.1 workstation and
it isn't deploying.
Since it is the day after patch Tuesday I decided to run Windows Updates and interestingly enough the printer shows up as an Important Update.  Ok, so I tell it to install but it fails with an error code of 80070490.
Searched for help with that error found a few suggestions, running sfc and dism, but so far none of that has helped.  I also tried deleting the port thinking since I had used it in the past it may need to recreate it, didn't help.
So I'm stumped, I've rebooted the computer dozens of times, even turned it off for a while, no help.  I even manually installed the printer to see if having the drivers pre-loaded would help but it didn't.
Any suggestions?  Anyone run into this issue before?
Thanks in advance,

task sequence as the current one has several customizations that I would have to redo. When I try to change the OS in the "Install Operating System" step in the sequence to point to the updated image, the deployment will fail with a message such
as: Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]
I don't know how to tell if this is a problem with the unattend file itself or having something to do with changing the deploying operating system in the task sequence.

The resolution for the tablet after the OS is installed is fine and set to the correct resolution automatically.
However, the initial setup screens in the MDT Wizard pages are not.  I have to manually resize all the dialog boxes on each screen and even after manually sizing using the trackpad, only the edges of the buttons are accessible and the text and radio
buttons are almost unreadable.  So, I can barely select options or  click next to move to the next screen,
Is there a fix for the wizard screens?

I'm looking for some kind of "official" Microsoft documentation or TechNet article explaining the proper process for injecting Windows Updates / Hotfixes into a Windows WIM image to allow me to deploy a version of windows that already has all (or at least
most) of the current windows updates.
Does anyone know if such a document exists? Or perhaps someone from Microsoft can respond to this post with some well documented steps on how I would accomplish this?

A:Windows Update / Hotfix Injection into Windows 7 WIM image for Deployment

WSUS Offline Tool

Download the WSUS Offline Tool and extract to another working directory, e.g. "C:\wsusoffline"
Run the "UpdateGenerator.exe" tool.
Select the version of Windows you wish to update, e.g. "x64 Global" under the Windows 7 category.
Optionally select to use a WSUS server on your local network with the "WSUS..." button.

Press the "Start" button. A command window will appear displaying the progress of the utility. The updates are downloaded to the "./client/w61-x64/glb" directory within the "wsusoffline"
The Windows 7 Media

Download the Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7 and
install. This will allow you to obtain the "DISM.exe" command line utility that is needed.
Extract all files from the Windows 7 media. Store these files in a working directory, e.g. "C:\Win7_x64_Ent_Source"
Create a temp directory that will be used to mount the WIM image to in order to manipulate the files, e.g. "C:\Win7_x64_Ent_WIM"
Open an elevated command prompt.
Run the follow command to mount the WIM file:

dism /mount-wim /wimfile:C:\Win7_x64_Ent_Source\sources\install.wim /mountdir:C:\Win7_x64_Ent_WIM /index:1

You can determine the index number of the image you need to mount by running the "dism /get-wiminfo" command.

Change your current working directory to the directory you downloa... Read more

VB6 - Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deploy a vb6 application to a computer using Windows 7 or 8. I have vb6 running on my win7 computer but I would like to be able to deploy my application on a client's win 7 machine. This application has been running successfully on the client's Win XP machine for years. The client wants to buy a new computer which will probably have Win 8. Can the Package and Deployment Wizard that comes with VB6 be used? I do have a copy of VB10. Can this help me deploy a vb6 program?

I downloaded PowerPivot for Office 2010 and installed it manually to one computer with no problems. Now I try to deploy this MSI package to few similar workstations with GP but this fails. I can see from logs that installation has started but failed. I suspect
that this has something to do with UAC on Windows7 clients.
I can start the MSI manually with command prompt from same network location that my GPO starts it but the UAC prompts me to accept changes rightaway. So is the a option to disable or say yes to user prompt automatically?? Thanks!

A:UAC and MSI deployment?

You can try to disable UAC on Windows 7:
1. Access User Control Panel from Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Account
2. Click on

User Account Control settings link.

3. Move the Slider to Never Notify
4. Click OK to make the change effective
5. Reboot.
Hope that helps.

Just want to know what solution do you guys use to install Win XP pro corp over 90 computers. All computers are identical and I can network them using a switch or router with a centralized server. I was thinking doing a LAN boot and then from there each PC would install XP from the server. What do you have to say?

(do any of you have any experience using group policy to deploy service packs? i would like to automatically push out sp 4. i am currently using the microsoft software update services to automatically push out the critical updates. i actually ran into a problem with that as well. if i edit the default domain policy, my updates are pushed out. if i try to only apply it to a given ou, the updates are not pushed out. has anyone had this problem?

i ran across this link:

Windows 2000/XP SP Deployment

i don't have a test environment as such to test this first so i would like some feedback before i go forward with this.

thank you kindly in advance!)
