Y520 faulty battery

Q: Y520 faulty battery

I bought yoga 520 80x8 laptop. When I plug the charger off it shuts down immediately or 1 or 2 minutes later. Is there a way to check battery or the hardware health?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Thanks,
Marlon

Hello guys.

This is a Acer ASpire V3-571. W10.

For some time now, whilst I working, the screen would go dim, then a second or so later it return to normal brightness, and the battery indicator on the taskbar would show an interruption.

What I noticed next is that a couple of times when I open the laptop and press the 'ON' button it does not power on. So I plug in the power lead, wait a few seconds, press the 'ON' button and it powers on.

Is this an indication that the battery is dead ?

Thanks for any info.

It sounds like a dying/dead battery. Laptop batteries wear out over time. Have you ever replaced the battery? How long have you had this product?

Hello  I have a Lenovo y40-80 laptop, out of warranty since 8 days, and I think the battery is either dead or faulty. I'm still hoping to find a way to fix my problem with your help. Recap of the whole thing:1) Battery is working perfectly, keeping its charge and giving me a couple of hours (4-6h per charge) after 1 year. 2) Warranty ends on october 31st. I thought "no need for an extension, what could happen?" 3) November 4, I take my computer to class and I'm suprise to see it's stuck at 100%. Then my computer shut down after 15 minutes (was still at 100%). 4) Plug my charger and start it right away. The gauge is now showing 0% and charging, but it's not as it stuck again at 0%. 5) Since then, either the battery level shows 100% when charged until I unplug it and it shut down fast OR it stays at 0% when I charge it and sometimes randomly goes back to 100%. I've been searching for a solution for a couple of days, trying to uninstall the Energy manager and the ACPI pilot, but it is still defective. Ironically, my warranty has been expired only for a couple of days and I thought about purchasing an extended warranty. Would it be possible and would it covers for my battery? Thanks a lot!

I have had this laptop for less than 6 months its been slow from the get go due to this I have only used it a handful of times as it is too frustrating to use. It freezes up all the time I cant even check emails. I switched it on this morning and now its saying I have to replace the battery!!!! This is ridiculous I should have spent the extra 200 bucks and got a different brand I am so disappointed with HP I have always wanted one but now I think i will just throw it in the bin and cut my losses. Can anyone recommend what to do with this laptop do I take it back to the store I bought it from or do I contact HP directly its obviously still brand new and under warranty!!  wish I stuck with Toshiba my old laptop never let me down.

How can I get a new battery for my 15-p157 notebook?Hi I bought my laptop in September 2017 from Currys, they have washed their hands of it as it is a battery fault. I'm sure the battery should last longer than 5/6months. Now it just says plugged in not charging/replace battery. I checked my battery against the recall list, it tells me I'm unaffected and to continue using it. However it does not function at all, the battery gets extremely hot (burnt my fingers twice) when plugged in to mains, however I have to use the mains to power my laptop as it switches off. I have so far had no reply from support which is irritating to say the least.I am aware batteries are a consumable, however this laptop is only plugged in when it needed to charge and then ran on battery, I have tried atx reset (disconnect all power, hold button for 45-60 seconds) no joy. This all happened over night, shut down my laptop the night before, next day nothing. I even bought a brand new charger for it. Looking in hp store you don't stock a battery for my laptop. How do I get this replaced? It's a v104 battery. I'd rather not have the whole laptop changed as it's perfect for me, just the battery that needs replacing. If anyone can please just point me in the right direction that would be fantastic.Kind regardsTraceySmitht29

My Satellite R850 shuts down at approximately 70% of the battery capacity. It does not suspend, just power off. Power on is only possible when the AC adapter is plugged in again. My first guess is that (after only one year of daily use) the battery has had it's best time and should be replaced.

But why doesn't the battery indicator show the right capacity, so I could get a warning at low battery power?
Is there a tool or method to recalibrate the battery indicator?

A:Satellite R850 - Battery indicator faulty? How to recalibrate?

Hi

For me it shows like your battery is faulty.
Usually sooner or later every battery needs to be replaced because the battery life time is limited.
I have no idea how old your battery is but in my case the battery is 5 year old and it hold the power for about 2 min only. But the funny thing is that the battery indicator shows battery fully charged (100%).

However, you can extend the battery life time a little bit. You need to calibrate the battery from time to time by charging and discharging the battery. Such procedure should be repeated several times is the row?
But I guess that your battery malfunctions and such calibration does not help a lot.

Hi, I just got out of an online chat with an HP technician who informed me, after helping me through troubleshooting for what was a faulty battery, that the Extended Warranty Care Pack taken out for the laptop did not cover the battery.  Their reasoning was that "The unit is covered under warranty but the warranty for the batteri is expired." If this is true then when I look up the laptop's current warranty status on HP's website, what it tells me is a bit misleading: "Active: Covered under Extended warranty,  42  months remaining" (for reference HP Support Assistant tells me the warranty for the laptop is a HP Care Pack and lasts until 2020). When I hover over the question mark icon on HP's website next to the warranty status, the icon brings up a box which states: "Warranty Status Types ?Manufacturer?s warranty? refers to the warranty included with the product upon first purchase. ?Extended warranty? refers to any extra warranty coverage or product protection plan,  purchased for an additional cost, that extends or supplements the manufacturer?s warranty." So then I'm curious about a few things. 1. How can I see what exactly this Extended Warranty covers?  In HP Support Assistant it justs lists HP Care Pack and the date it is set to expire. 2. What exactly does a HP Care Pack normally cover if it doesn't fully extended the warranty as the website lookup would lead you to believe? 3. If th... Read more

This is what happens: After a few hours of operation, svchost.exe crashes

Doesn't matter what I'm doing; Gaming, surfing, you name it.
Faulting module svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, faulty address 0x00000000.

A few seconds will pass as I accept, and my theme will change from the start blue one to the old grey one in a few seconds and then reset to the standard XP one.

Here's what I know so far: When this happens crashes, it takes Windows Audio and a few other services with it, which I have to start again using Run/services.msc. I know which instance contains the Windows Audio service, so the problem is most likely with one of the services hosted within that particular instance of svchost.

I'm a bit lost, though. I don't know what to do because it doesn't give me an address, it doesn't tell me which service is messing up, so I need some help. I have the windows error log and a decent recollection of what has happened since that error started: I got a new X-fi sound card, a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion. The errors coincide with me installing that card, but I can't see how that would mess up like this, though.

I don't know if I'm totally off the mark here, but is it fair to assume that it is only ONE instance of svchost crashing? The screenshot above shows the svchost hosting the services that go down after the crash. I have a saved version of th... Read more

I believe the initial crash was caused by overheating. Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time, more on that later. Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine. I can boot into safe mode, and I have already reinstalled windows. My motherboard is Asus B85M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV3A GTX 590.
How I got it to work for a short amount of time : I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver. After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers. I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller. So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk. It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel.
I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card. The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed.

Sorry that this is quite long, but I want to give complete details as to the problem rather than just giving a vague problem...
Nvidia 8500GT card has been overclocked for the last year:

Original: 450, 900, 400
Stable OC: 690, 1380, 547

Before you panic, it's been stable and temps have been fine (<70). My motherboard is a Asus P5N-E SLI board. The computer is dual boot to Vista (for general use) and XP x64 (for games). ONLY XP IS OVERCLOCKED. Vista is not overclocked at all. Only the GPU is overclocked in the computer.

Now, the problems started when I moved the computer. All the games on x64 crashed unless I underclocked the machine, except UT (ancient game) which garbled the graphics (weapon textures on walls etc). I found out it was because somehow the card wasn't plugged in properly - so I pushed it back and I was able to play again.

Since then, sometimes the card is alright and other times it isn't. The other day I was playing fallout (graphics intensive game) for around 3 hours without any problems. But right now, I boot to vista and within a minute it crashes. Other times I was programming (not even using graphics) and the mouse suddenly has a flickering box around it - then the computer crashes.

When it crashes, the screen goes weird colours (like its rendered the screen as 4 bit colours rather than 32 bit) and shortly after I get a blue screen with it complaining about a graphics DLL.

At first, giving the card a wiggle in the PCI-E slot fixed... Read more

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hello everyone! Not sure if this is an issue but it's surely annoying to know, that battery N1 drains at 5% and the other stays at 100%. Is it possible for a mixed discharge between both batteries ?After all the LIFE of the first battery (while using battery only power) is shortened a lot! Is there any option in LENOVO VANTIGE that I am no aware of ?I looked everywhere and i can't find anything.. Bios latest update 1.30 Thank you very much!

Sorry  but see below post.  Basically you cant set discharge order.  The laptop checks battery wear and bases discharge order on that.  Many people including myself have asked for a BIOS switch or at least an option on discharge order but nothing has happened so far and I dont think its going to happen either.  I do not speak for Lenovo..

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Hi. I recently bought the LEGION Y520 and I wanted to put an SSD into it to really get all the juice out of this laptop. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com.mx/Intel-SSD-S3110-256GB-Serial/dp/B074S8X5ZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=15282349... but encountered some issues because my laptop won't recognize it. Windows won't, nor will BIOS. When I try to reinstall Windows 10, as I pick where I want to install it, the SSD is nowhere to be seen.  I wanted to know if this is solvable. If not, I wanna know if returning my SSD and ordering this one instead (https://www.amazon.com.mx/dp/B01MS6BYJD/ref=psdc_12005787011_t2_B01LYFKX41?th=1) would solve anything. May be important: while trying to install Windows, I tried to take the HDD out in order to install it from scratch in the SSD, but I couldn't take it out cause a screw was like, really hard to take out and I was afraid I'd damage the laptop if I was too stubborn.

You need to return the m.2 SATA SSD and replace it with a supported M.2 2280 PCIe-NVMe SSD as mentioned on the gaming laptops discussion here.

Hello, I guess you get this a lot but I just got my new Legion Y520 today, and the disk is running at 100% I had a freeze and when I restarted the computer it took forever. I really hope it's not a faulty HDD but in the case where it is, does it take long for it to be changed ? I will travel in a month and I really hope that in the worse case scenario this will not be a problem. Thanks.

A:100% disk usage of Y520!

If you just got it, it may be downloading/running Windows Updates etc. in the background, so if you just started using it, I would be patient and let it run for a bit.    If you are curious, you can Right click on Start and select Task Manager, select the More Details option in the lower right, and then click on the top of the Disk Usage column etc to sort the columns by usage to see what process clogging up the works.     My guess is that it is Windows Update (wuauclt.exe), but if not from Task Manager you should be able to spot the culprit.
