Windows Crash - Can't Sign In

Q: Windows Crash - Can't Sign In

shortly after turning my Win 10 PC on this morning, I got a blue screen message telling my My PC had encountered a problem and they were collecting data.

Now, when the PC comes back on, I get a pop up saying We Can't Sign In To Your Account. I've tried signing out as suggested by the on screen message but I still get the same message as above.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is brand new, about two months old, and I haven't used it too much yet. Today, while signing in to my Windows account, the computer crashed. It was rather odd too.

I typed in my password and the "loading circle" appeared. The loading circle then froze in place followed by the monitor going blank and then saying it wasn't getting any signal. The computer was still running and the monitor connections were fine, but the screen was still blank. I couldn't even shut the computer off by holding down the power button. I must have held it down for at least 15 seconds, way longer than usual to force a shutdown. The computer reset button was unresponsive as well. I tried both buttons multiple times but they did nothing. I had to resort to manually shutting off the power supply unit (which I really did not want to do).

What happened?

A:Crash During User Sign In (Windows 8)

The problem may be worse than I thought.

It just happened to me again. This time, I had booted up the computer and it was just sitting at the user log in screen and then the screen went black, but the machine stayed on. I tested the monitor by removing the connection from the GPU and plugging it in to the connection that connects to the motherboard. Nothing. Power button ceases to work and I have to shut the computer off by shutting down the power supply. (And I have tested this, I can shut the computer down by holding down the power button, when the computer actually boots correctly).

My problem is very similar to this persons here although I am not overclocking. Also, once my computer gets past the log on screen it seems to be fine.

I'm starting to think this is a hardware issue or maybe I am drawing too much power on the PSU (although I should only be using about 50% at most of the max 520W  rating).

I'm getting very worried.

Hi guys, currently trying to resolve an issue with my girlfriend's PC! Nightmare!

Here's the context:

She's recently upgraded to a GTX 970 and an SSD with Windows 10 (using the free upgrade from a fresh 8.1 install) and on the first boot after the upgrade everything seemed to be working fine. She booted the next day to find that about 20-30 seconds after logging in the monitor would just blank and the only way of progressing would be to restart. Repeat ad infinitum!

She has an 8.1 installation on a separate mechanical drive which works fine (although it did actually suffer from the same issue before I clean installed the nVidia drivers, which seemed to resolve the issue).

I've tried to clean install drivers on the 10 installation, installed chipset drivers, monitor drivers (!?), all to no avail. It just crashes. This is all from safe mode, which works fine as expected. This is what made me think it was a driver issue.

Any ideas? The chipset thing was as far as I think I can take it without asking you guys for help!

I went into my User Accouts in the Control Panel. I deleted a User called Nathon. I created a new user account with Admin authority named Jack.
However, everytime that I start my computer from my morning bootup, the Signon Window has the deleted User, Nathon.
I have to type in Jack, for the new user, and I get into Jacks Account.

Why is Windows not remembering that I have deleted the USER, Nathon?

I have never had such a problem with any of my other windows computers.

I had a narrow sign saying on a website saying, I broke the law and unless I pay a certain amount 500.00 by 40 days my computer will crash? I have windows 7, and Norton, I did not click on anything, but logged off immediately , and ran Norton eraser, with no virus found. However I am still worried that in 40 days my computer will crash. I do not know if the intrusion was blocked for sure. Everything is working now perfectly, and there has been no signs of anything in control of windows 7 of my computer. But now am I still in danger of this as maybe a hacker, that could crash my computer in the future? Or not?

About a week ago, seemingly at random, I started getting lag spikes, where my audio would distort and mouse movement would be slowed, and basically everything would slow down for a few seconds. This has persisted over the last week, not always starting as soon as the PC would be turned on (I was doing troubleshooting of my own last night, which required the PC to be restarted several times, and I could recreate the lag from startup, whereas today it was only hours into use that it began). It seems to be when something is loading, mainly, but can also be while idle. I've been using DPC latency checker to monitor it (DPC claims it's a driver issue, but I've attempted to pinpoint it by disabling one by one with little results).

This eventually culminated in a BSOD, but not like I was used to. It was as if my computer was shutting down. My browser and all my programs shut themselves down, I got a couple of errors about my program's services being stopped while in use, which I clicked through, and only once nothing but my wallpaper was onscreen (no toolbar or anything) did the BSOD pop up. I was obviously worried, but relieved I'd have a crash dump to investigate. At the time I had it set to a kernel memory dump, but nothing has been generated. I have now switched to a Small Memory dump, but am unable to recreate the BSOD. I'm able to recreate the lag once it has started by itself, but before it starts I'm unable to recreate it.

I hope I've provided enough information/poste... Read more

So I just reinstalled Windows 10 on my machine.

Before I had it set up so that I could log in with a password or fingerprint.

Now it seems my only options are (1) password only OR (2) password, PIN or fingerprint.

I don't want PIN as a sign in option. But I have to enable PIN via "Windows Hello" before enabling Fingerprint sign in.

And once I have fingerprint sign in enabled, if I remove the PIN I lose both PIN and fingerprint sign in options.

Any ideas how I can set up password and fingerprint as my only two sign in options?

You have recently removed one or more virusus from this computer, but now a new one has appeared.

First, AOL is extremely slow to start when I click on the icon. Once I've signed on, after a time a new sign-on screen appears on top of what I'm doing. I cancel that one. Soon I see activity at the bottom of the screen (where ordinarily you see "Done" or "//http:/..." etc. The virus is doing its own AOL activity! Soon afterward AOL is canceled, as if I had canceled it.

Also, Microsoft XP suddenly announces they are having to increase my virtual memory. Paging size is currently at 384 Mb, and my RAM is 1.25 GB. This is happening more and more frequently.

I have again changed my AOL sign-on password, and I no longer permit it to use the password automatically (I have to enter it at each sign on).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

After having done the update, I'm having two issues that are bugging me:

1. I cannot change the lock screen from the "cave by the shore" default nor bypass it (Brink is working on the bypass issue I believe)

2. If I go into netplwiz and uncheck the need for a password, the "Welcome" screen has the system default user picture, that drawing of a circle over an arch, not the picture I assigned to the account. With the need for a password, the picture on both the sign-in screen and "Welcome" screen is correct tho.

The lock screen issue I can live with since I normally don't use a password, but the default user picture is bugging me. I went into %ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and replaced all the default pictures with ones the same name and size of the picture that I have for the account, but it still shows the default.

I've searched around for another place where the default picture is, but cannot find any, even with the search including hidden system files.

Anybody know where the system default user pictures are stored, other than in the User Account Pictures?

Hello TheSchaft,

Q1) I've added OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to be able to disable the lock screen again, but it doesn't do so at startup.

Q2) I'm not aware of way to stop this yet when you have netplwiz set to automatically sign in to an account at startup. The blue note box at the top of the tutorial below will show you the default locations for account pictures to help.

Ok, so normally I can fix most any bug on my computer, and it's not a big deal for me.... But this one sucks and it has been a problem for about a month now. I have tried over a dozen different "fixes" from over 8 different blog sites with no real solution to my problem. I am running Win7 home premium w/4Gig ram, Intel i3, on an Asus U50F.
Here is a run down of what happens:

I log on, windows starts normally, windows runs for about 3-5 minutes with nothing wrong and then freezes. The mouse is still movable but cannot open or close anything. If task mgr is up and onscreen, it will also freeze. I have to hard-boot the system every time. I am currently operating in Safe-mode w/networking just to get on the web, or do anything. Safe-mode runs fine I just don't want to use it forever!

Below are the processes running at the time of crash:

Hi Indyspark and welcome to TSF,

None of the processes sticks out, and are perfectly fine where they are.

Could you access the event log and see if there are any faults around the time that this issue appears? If so, what faults do you receive?

You could try running a "sfc /scannow" and a system repair aswell as restoring to a previously known working restore point, just as general "fixes".

Hey everyone

Every now and then my Windows 8.1 x64 shows the first sign-in sequence after a restart. I noticed it most recently happened after a normal Start->Power Options->Restart. I'm quite sure it has also happened after right clicking on start button (Control-X) and restarting from there, as well as from a custom shortcut I have for restart (shutdown.exe /r /t 00).

I had just finished installing IBM SPSS 22 for a class I'm taking, but I think this is unrelated.
It goes through the whole "Setting Up Your PC" and "Installing your apps" screens even though its perfectly fine and and all my data including app data is still there. See the attached file for an example of what was most noticeably shown.

With another incident, something similar to this happened but it actually reset some of my settings for things like MediaMonkey, Connectify Hotspot, GOM Player and VLC player. It was like they had been started for the first time ever with no license information or preferences like Always on Top.

Its not a matter of urgency but I keep worrying that one day it will actually mess with my system in a very annoying way.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Thanks

Hey,

My month and half old Acer V3 started to give BSOD's, did some sort of recovery and started working again for a couple of hours, if not trying to access any Windows files. If tried to look up error logs etc it gave different versions of the BSOF. So I tried to run Recovery, getting it back to factory settings, and that's when Windows crashed completely. I followed Acer customer support advice, ordered recovery discs (couldn't create one because Windows crashed when trying it. I got the recovery discs, ran the recovery which ended up giving me failure because of "missing image-something". Another call to Acer and they told to run different recovery version from the puter.

That recovery end to a failure again. After several restarts and what not, windows started up again, being slower than usual. I'm now having constant problems losing internet connection, I've had couple minidumbs and several issues with windows updater and such and these after machine should be back in the factory settings. Anyhow, here's the last log if anyone could take a look on it before I throw this machine to the wall.

A:BSOD and total windows crash and recovery crash/failure

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

In particular, start with the hard drive diagnostics as I suspect that is the problem.

Although there's only 2 memory dumps (it usually takes 4 or 5 to conclude if it's a hardware error or not) - the repeated failure of factory installs makes a hardware failure the most likely problem here. Please run the diagnostics that I suggested above and let us know the results.

There are a list of drivers that need updating (because the recovery media was made a while ago). Don't worry about them until you've finished the hardware diagnostics. If all the diagnostics pass, then update the drivers.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Windows 7 sp1 RTM: Logon, Desktop Sidebar & Windows Live Sign in Assitant Issues (unknown minnor issues-if you face the same issues, please post it here)

Hi Guys , please read the clarification before going to the issues part.

Clarification :
I faced a few issues after installing the Windows 7 sp1 RTM. I am very sure (100%) that these are the Windows 7 sp1 RTM fault (already gone through a few discussions and tested by myself on various ways).

There is no problem with IE9 RTM as these problems were also existing when I used IE8 (Original file came with my Windows 7 pack).

I am certain that my Windows Live Sign In Assitant has no problem at all (tested with latest Windows Live Essential 2011 pack-the one with minor update).

Everything works properly prior/before of the installation of Windows 7 sp1 RTM (of course by reverting back the Windows 7 sp1 RTM to Windows 7 will solve everything).

The point is I want the solution for Windows 7 sp1 RTM. Hope you can help. Kindly view my issues below.

This problem exists on both my laptops. Searches don't address my particular issue.

HP upgraded from Win7 and Toshiba upgraded from Win8.3 6-10 months ago to Win10.

I've tried to change from Fast Start which fixed only the failure on Toshiba to restart on command which was a good thing. Did nothing for HP.

I've changed the keyboard registry in both computers to the #2 which did nothing. (The HP was already set to 2)

I've gotten the latest patches and upgrades for Win10 on both laptops. Did nothing.

The numlock light comes on and stays on. The on screen icons show either locked or unlocked properly. Only the directional controls continue to work in either locked or unlocked mode.

I've found nothing anywhere that addresses this. Has to be a software issue as computers are different manufacturers and one is 3 years old and other is less than one year old.

It baffles me that it works on startup to put in my PIN and only fails when logged on to Windows 10.

Thanks,

Doug

Did you try this?

I tried most of the suggested tips, but only one worked;

Go to Registry HKUsers/Default/ControlPanel/Keyboard and change the Keyboard Indicator value from 2147483648 to 2147483650, i.e. change the last two numbers from 48 to 50.

Hi,

As of yesterday, when I sign in to Windows Live Messenger, a few seconds later Messenger will stop responding. This sometimes happens before the sign-in process is complete, and sometimes several seconds after. Shortly after this, Windows Explorer stops (the Task Bar, Start Menu and any window involving file browsing/ file tree such as "Open" dialogue boxes), then any other programs which are open also stop. It's not a screen freeze, since the mouse and basic keyboard commands still work to some extent - Alt-Tab brings up the switch program box, repeating left-shift for StickyKeys makes the StickyKeys sound, though Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. I searched for a considerable period of time both on these forums and on others but with no luck. Has anyone seen something similar?

It may be completely unrelated, but today for about 10mins any attempt to access BleepingComputer would replace the "bleepingcomputer" section of the URL with "google" bringing up either Google's homepage or an internal Google error since rest of the URL belonging to a BleepingComputer site made no sense stuck after "google.com/". This seemed to fix itself after I tried to get to BleepingComputer via a proxy (though this may have been coincidence). I would post this separately but I'm not really interested in this oddity if it doesn't relate to my first problem.

I have tried running SpyBot and AdAware but they only turned up tracking cookies. I also had an unin... Read more

I tried most of the suggested tips, but only one worked;

Go to Registry HKUsers/Default/ControlPanel/Keyboard and change the Keyboard Indicator value from 2147483648 to 2147483650, i.e. change the last two numbers from 48 to 50.

A:Windows 7 sign

Welcome!

Are you referring to the watermark? Legitimate versions of Windows shouldn't have that. Be sure you are not using a Torrented copy, and don't use the leaked service pack.

Try this, if it is a local account you can unlock the account and blank the password, but you will have to make a new one.

Heres my situation. Im trying to help my dad out. He has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1, He recently started getting a window during startup that had a random file name and would say (Is not responding). We could not figure out what the problem was. So we decided to try a selective startup. Using MSCONFIG the option was selected to use Diagnostic Startup.

Since doing that we cant load windows. Well, Windows starts, but when it asks for his pin number to enter his desktop we enter it. Once we do that it simply comes up with a screen that shows his user picture large in the middle of the screen with his name (like he needs to select his user) and if you click on it then you are taking back to the screen to enter the pin. If the pin is entered it goes right back to that screen. I decided maybe we should try to start the computer in safe mode. We try to, but it asks for his actual password, which he cant remember. It asks for that same password if we try anything else in the Startup options.

I really need some help on this as soon as possible.

I really hope someone can help me with this. We've tried every combination of password we can think of that my dad might have used and cant seem to remember the right one. I really need to help get windows started again because my dad has work files he needs to access very soon.

Any helps is greatly appreciated.

My Carbon X1 20bt is experiencing major problems with fingerprint reader and Windows 10. Everything was working fine with Windows 8.1 and the Lenovo software. After upgrading to 10, the Lenovo software was automatically deleted I guess because Windows 10 fully supports sign in with fingerprint. When I read my print in to Windows HELLo, it NEVER recognizes it when signing in. I have read it in to the system multiple times, but have never succeeded to log in with it. This problem has been existing for some time, but yesterday I was doing maintenance to my friends x240 and noticed her reader work without enabling Windows Hello. She didn?t have the pin installed for Hello and the reader worked just fine. On my X1, I have to put in the pin number to Hello or the whole reader is disabled. There was fingerprint reader driver update coming to x240 which I didn?t instal naturally. I tried to instal the 8.1 drivers back, but was unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated, this is anoying!

Windows Fixit, num lock fix 50087, kb 154529

Vista Home Premium, Acer Aspire 6930, Centrino 2 duo, 4g memory.

Since installing this fix, which did'nt work, I keep getting the popup error message 'LogonUI.exe (this varies) -Bad Image, then text 'C:\PROGRA-1\google\GOOGLE-2\GOEC62-1.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.' Before installing it said setting a restore point, trying to restore there are no restore points. How is this, thought the system (Vista home premium) automatically set restore points. This popup is messing the system up bigtime, almost impossible to load programs etc. as it constantly pops up and will not cancel.
Any clues on how I might get rid of this problem? Unable to find help on Microsoft sites.

Hi, Here are a couple of things to check. 1.  One possibility is that the keyboard layout has been changed, so try logging on using the on screen keyboard as follows. At the log on screen, click the Ease Of Access icon in the bottom right corner, select On-Screen Keyboard and enter your password using this. 2.  See if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.  https://account.live.com/password/reset Regards, DP-K

Help with my Bungled attempt to establish a Log on user Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup w/o having to enter name andpassword at startup in Widows 8.1. I correctly did this using "Option One" of Brink's Tutorial procedure with two new laptops several months ago, however I now have gone brain dead while attempting the same on my new Desktop, with 8.1 O/S. For some reason the"Automatically Log ON", box did not pop up allowing me to enter my Microsoft User name; Password: or Confirm Password: as he illustrated in his "OPTION ONE, 4.,C,D. Still brain dead, I selected enter anyway, it did not work and now the PC offered me a slightly new picture requesting me to sign in with name and password. How can I return to square one to do this right? (I hate passwords).

If I can NOT get to any screen in windows how can I fix this.

Hello,

I am having trouble when going to the c:\documents and settings\User folder it keeps coming up asking for me to sign into Windows Live ID. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before?

I cannot find any fixes for this problem.

Thanks
Tim

A:Sign in with Windows live ID

Forget it I found the solution

Following recent updates to Windows XP, some users experience popups
asking them to enter their Windows Live ID whenever they browse to
their Documents and Settings/username/ folder, whether or not they have
such an ID or use those services. This can be prevented by deleting the
item "My web sites on MSN" from the NetHood subfolder in this folder,
which apparently causes this by trying to access the network.

This worked for me !

I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. After a mandatory update from Microsoft, I've downloaded, installed and tried to use Windows Live Messenger 9.0. But it won't let me sign in. I type my username and the correct password, the icon spins, then - nothing. No error messages, just nothing, the same screen.

I've tried un-installing it, re-installing it at least 5 times. I've tried re-installing and using my old version (Windows Live Messenger 8.1), but it won't let me use that, because it forces me to update to 9.0.

I've already checked a thousand times and it's NOT a problem with a firewall or internet connections or anything of that sort. I've already searched the internet for hours for a solution, but couldn't find anything. I'm using XP and Service Pack 2.

Any help would be much appreciated.
