Keyboard not functioning properly

Q: Keyboard not functioning properly

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can get some help with this issue.

Recently I installed a new copy of WinXP Pro onto my machine and everything was working correctly except for the Multimedia Buttons on my keyboard. Before, my keyboard ( Dell SK-8135 USB) worked perfectly. I tried everything from updating drivers to downloading repair kits. Finally after a restart, I noticed that the multimedia buttons worked but all my other buttons on the keyboard didn't!

I've tried uninstalling the driver, letting the computer pick up the keyboard but still no luck. Device Manager says everything is working correctly.
The keyboard functions in the BIOS but not in the OS (except for the music keys of course).
Does anyone have suggestions on what it would take for normal keys to work? Maybe something to be changed in the registry? Any help is appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The function to activate the backlights of my keyboard doesn't work as it should.
Sometimes I manage to turn the lights on, but this is only possible in the first 5 seconds after Windows started up (and thus the first seconds I can see my desktop). After around 5 seconds, there is no turning back. If they're on at that moment, they stay on and it's impossible to turn them off again and vice versa. (The lights are activated by pressing FN+W, because it's an azerty computer.)

This problem started to occur when I updated to Windows 10 several years ago. Last week, I did a factory reset and again had some problems with the hotkeys. The backlit problem came back to my memory and therefore I post here, to hopefully get a solution.

I already tried several things:
- changing from 'special functionkey mode' to 'standard F1-F12 mode'
- updating drivers (System drivers, Function key utility...)
- changing in BIOS setup (here I could turn the lights on or off, but this didn't solve the problem when my laptop was turned on and logged in)

Laptop:
- Satellite P50-B-107
- PSPNUE-00300CBT
- Microsoft Windows 10 Home
- Factory reset 03/02/2018

Last week, the keyboard on my toshiba laptop was giving me some problems. Some of the keys don't work and some will do some funny stuff when i clicked on them. For example, when I type the letter d, it will have the function of an alt key... when I try to type the word spread, right when it reaches spr, the whole thing changed to aAa. It was so weird and I thought probably I got a virus. I did a virus scan and restarted the laptop. I set up a password to log into my laptop and as the keyboard is not working, I am not able to log into the system without keying in the correct password. Does anyone know how to disable a login? I was thinking of maybe installing a new regular keyboard but I will not be able to try that without first gettting in. Anyone can help pls??

Hi,
We have Windows 7 64 bit with an Acer older laptop.
We are not sure what we did but our keyboard has changed in that we cannot use Ctrl + Cto copy or Ctrl + V for paste and other functions. Also our mouse pad does not work anymore. We are using an external USB keyboard and it works fine with a USD wireless mouse and sometimes a USB wired mouse which work fine.
My question is what can we do to restore our laptop keyboard?
We do not have or original Windows 7 CD anymore.
We have tried to fix the mouse driver but I think I made it worse.
We have tried to update the HID keyboard device but Windows says it is up-to-date.
Same with PS/2 keyboard device.
Same with the mouse- up-to-date.
Could we hit some key combination that changed the keyboard settings?
We have looked in the Acer PDF but see not solutions.
Thanks,
Chip MX (we are living in Mexico)

I recently noticed that some of my Windows keyboard shortcut keys aren't working...........any ideas????????

example: If I depress the windows button + "m" my open windows do not minimize

note: I checked the other user accounts on my pc and the keyboard shortcut keys seem to be working fine, just mine aren't working properly. The problem seems to only be w/ the Windows Natural keyboard shortcuts.

The problem is no real biggy, but I would like to regain use of this feature.....it makes computing a tad bit easier. Thanks.

Hmmm... What keyboard microsoft are you using? Microsoft Intelli bla bla, if you are using one of those and it came with a cd, check the keys and see if the shortcuts are working! If not... Well... there are other options, but we need to get to the bottom of the problem! Lol! Hope it works!

I've had this strange problem since couple of weeks. Some days certain alphabet keys stop functioning properly, I have to hit it hard to get them to work while after a while of hard hitting keys, it starts functioning properly & I've seen this happening to Space Bar too. Currently, I've issue with Space Bar alone. I've to hard hit space bar or hit it multiple times to get it functioning.

At times I've noted the prob shifts to other some other key the next day or it doesn't have any prob at all. Its been all strange

I would like to know what might be the reason for this odd behavior ? Do u think laptop getting hot might be a reason for that or working for longer hours ? I've Laptop Cooler always on, never turn it off.

I'm using Dell Vostro 1015. Its more than 2yrs old now, never had to take it to any computer shop for repairs or maintenance so far. Never formatted or restored or reloaded OS either.

The only probs I'd so far are with mouse. I've changed 2 mouses already, I prefer using external mouse piece.

Hi goodlad,

You should try an external keyboard with the system. If external keyboard works fine then you should consider replacing the internal keyboard.

As due to usage and time keys stops responding. However if the similar issue occurs with the external keyboard then it might be a software related issue.

I'm not sure if its a Windows XP problem or not. My desktop has been packed away for 9 months. I have recently installed a Linksys USB wireless adapter & was able to do all upgrades to all programs as needed. My pc was working fine for about 3 days then something went wrong. My desktop turns on perfectly fine, no error messages of any kind. Sometimes, when i go to double click or do quick launch of a program, it comes up looking like i did a right click asking for details of the icon. There are also times when in the middle of typing, the keyboard just stops. I can still use the mouse to CLOSE either IE 8 windows or any other program but if I want to open something, I have to right click & manually select Open but, ex: when i try to do a system restore, it will let me open the program but will not let me select anything or another ex is when i try to save something to anywhere, i can't do anything but cancel or close the window. I'm lucky I've been able to type this much. LOL. Sometimes this happens immediately after turning on & sometimes in the middle of doing something. I can never exactly duplicate the problem. I have been able to do a go back to the day before it was packed away & still no good. I have run my AVG virus & spyware scans with no unusual messages, I've also run the Highjack This program & the Belarc Advisor for any info if needed if it'll help any. Please advise.

Could it be possible it's the mouse and/or keyboard actually acting up? How are they connected to the PC? USB or PS/2?

Do you have access to another keyboard and mouse that you could try?

Yesterday, I began noticing that whenever I go onto a website such as Youtube to watch videos, some of the time afterward, it disables the images on the page, and freezes once I try to go back a page; to which I have to close internet explorer and open it up again. Here's what it looks like sometimes:

In the past, using my 1.1, I'd been getting a message letting me know that my high-speed USB device is plugged into a low-speed USB hub. I'm still getting this message, and we're still functioning at 1.1 speeds. Can anyone think why this might be?

I have a desktop running windows xp SP2, with no internet connection. I have a USB wireless desktop plugged into this, when i boot the computer i can use the keyboard to enter bios and change settings and such like so i know the usb ports themselves are working, but when i get into windows the wireless reciever goes dead, i can press the connect button and get the lights flashing to indicate it is in connect mode but when i press the connect button on the keyboard nothing happens and the lights just keep on flashing till it times out. i have dug out an old ps/2 mouse to control windows but have not got a ps/2 keyboard to do the same. i went into device manager with my old mouse and found that there are no usb devices whatsoever installed there. i don't mean that there is an x next to them or anything like that, they are physically not there. any help would be greatly appreciated

I am trying to get my capslock key to work. I am using Windows 8.1. I have tried uninstalling device drivers, performing a hard restart, and checked ease of access. What's strange is it works when I enable the "on screen keyboard". I can turn it on, and it lights up, and works fine. I am unable to manually press the caps lock key though. It began after leaving my computer on for some time, and I went to log in, and there was MAJOR delay in typing my password in. I finally logged in, and again, major delay when typing in a web URL. After that, I noticed my caps lock key was stuck ON, and restarted the computer. Now it's stuck I ran a hardware test by pressing F2 while restarting the computer. It's a built-in function with HP laptops. I was able to test every key, except the Capslock key. What's strange is when I depress the keys H + N, or G + B at the same time, it toggles the capslock on and off. I'm quite sure there is no dirt or debris under the keys. I'm afraid it could be a wiring issue? Could my computer have been affected by something malicious? Could registry entries have been tampered with? I could remap the key perhaps...Very strange to me. I have some computer certifications, and can't figure this out for the life of me. I'd like to manually reinstall my keyboard drivers, but am unsure which driver to replace. I have 2 listed under keyboards, one is PS/2 keyboard, other is HID keyboard device. Also, on HP's website, I find no keyboard drivers listed under m... Read more

Hi guys,

First of all thanks for your help. You have saved a lot of people much time, money & hassle.

Now to my problem. A few days ago I had downloaded something with the Vundo virus attached. I ran Vundofix and now I am not getting the characteristic popups that come along with Vundo. Unfortunately, I still have this strange problem where every time I turn on the computer and try browsing the web, when I type in an address and click 'go' it will just say "loading" forever without loading. Then, after a couple of tries of opening and closing the explorer, eventually I am able to browse. I didn't have this problem before Vundo. Everything is fine as long as I don't turn off the computer, but if I do, I have to repeat this weird process of opening and closing the explorers over and over again before I can see any websites. This happens with both IE and Firefox.

Also, once in a while, the Windows toolbar and all icons will disappear, and then reappear.

When I ran the Panda scan thing, here are the malicious results I got:

A friend of mine from work said she was having some issues with her computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) so she asked me to take a look at it.  I have referred to this site in the past to get rid of malware and viruses from office and family computers so i figured you guys could help me.

Once I initially turned her computer on, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer would all freeze up or redirect me with pop ups and other sites (conduit being one of them). I realized i wasn't going to go anywhere by trying to browse so i started uninstalling the software that i knew was harmful. Uninstall, restart, uninstall, restart, windows updates, restart, etc...

I was finally able to download and install malwarebytes (which i've used many times in the past).  I installed it and tried running it and it was being blocked so i used the chameleon version. Afer a few trial and errors, I finished the quick scan with a whopping 1038 objects detected (NEW HIGH SCORE). After removing those, the browsers were still having issues and doing a few safe mode malwarebytes scans, Firefox would now freeze up with an "Oops... We must have broken the internet again, Our experts are working to fix the issue..." or something of that nature and i was unable to close or minimize it.  Internet Explorer was giving me an unable to connect message.  After some troubleshooting, I was able to reset my firefox to default settings and reset my IE LAN settings to resolve those issu... Hello,

When I open my internet browser, it works fine.
When I try to go to a different site, it freezes for about 10 seconds, and then it opens a new browser that stays white. The original browser still works but if i try to open links, a new page, refresh, or anything else; it opens a white browser.

For example:

-My homepage is www.msn.com.
-I type www.google.com into the browser and hit enter.
-A new browser pops up and is blanc white and it reads at the top "Not Responding".
-The browser that has www.msn.com is still at msn, and still functions
-i try force closing the blanc browser, and more keep popping up
-I close the msn browser, and everything closes
-I then get an error report (I click "don't send")

My first conclusion was that i got a virus from the recent game that i downloaded.
So i ran a virus scan, and nothing appeared

Then i started to think when did it start to act up

It was when i tried to open and internet browser from inside the game. It was a registry website for the game (if it matters) America's Army.
If anyone knows what is going on, or if anyone has any suggestions how to fix this problem, or if you need more information about the problem please reply.

Hi, I just purchased a new widescreen TFT 24" for my dell optiplex 755 PC. The display is from a graphic card I installed in the PC (Quadro 410) through a VGA cable. The previous display TFT was 20" and it had no problems at all.
The issue it whenever I reboot my PC, it only displays the startup bios menu and the windows logo, then the monitor goes blank indicating that the cable is not connected. I then have to reconnect the VGA cable back to the 20", allow the machine to boot completely then change it back to the 24" and reset it to the recomendend display resolution (1920 x 1080). I reset it on both nVIDIA display resolution and windows display settings.
If I reboot the machine after setting up, it boots perfectly, but after I try to reboot it when it has been off for while (more than an hour) I have to redo all that process again and its really bugging me.
My cmos battery is working perfectly, I have even tried reinstalling the nVIDIA drivers and the VGA cable is also in good shape.
Can anyone help, Please?

Namely when I go to the favourite bar and click to open the hidden icons as in my pic IE stops working.

I have done an sfc and chkdsk / f /r - no change. Done the usual malware sweeps but still no change. Now I am guessing it is a glitch somewhere but would appreciate any thoughts on this issue.

Custom build desktop running Windows 10 Home. Ethernet connection.PC 3 ? Samsung laptop running Windows 10 Pro. Ethernet connection.PC 4 ? Samsung laptop running Windows 10 Home. Wireless connection.
All windows installations are TH2 (version 1511 build 10586.36) and up to date.

I have tried to set up a Homegroup across all four machines. Three work, and one partially works. The following describes how I set up the Homegroup. Note that I logged on the all the machines using the same Microsoft account

1 ? Started the server and the desktop. Used RDP on the desktop to access the server- which runs headless. Created the Homegroup on the server and then logged off.

2 ? Started the Homegroup app on the desktop, and noted that the server had established a Homegroup. Joined the Homegroup and waited for the shares to replicate.

At this point I could see both machines in a file explorer 'Network' view, and in the file explorer 'Homegroup' view.

All going to plan so far?

But now for some reason far from me my diskettes do not read. What could be this floppy drives problem? Please Help

A:a: drive not functioning properly

Hi Errol,

The first thing that I would do, is open the case back up and make sure all the connections are tight. You may have knocked the power / or drive wires loose installing the new RAM.

Let me know if it helps. If not we can try something else.

Some reason when I boot the computer up with a DVD in it, it reads it fine without the icon/logo showing in "My Computer"
When I take the DVD out and I try put in a another disc it doesn't load up (cant even use the same disc that i originally put in either no more unless i reboot), the address bar just fills up with green and takes hours searching but nothing ever actually shows up. Then when I close "My Computer" and reopen it the "D:\" (my disc drive) doesn't show.
I'm On Vista Home Premium SP2, I'm not really sure how to check what Disc drive I have. I don't know how long this problem has been lasting for because I haven't used the disc drive in a while.
Thanks

I went out and bought a new hard drive, and re installed Windows XP on it. I added a few necessary programs, like Mozilla, AIM, iTunes, etc and a Anti Virus. I also updated to XP SP2.I installed itunes, and noticed that it took about 10 minutes to open up. Once it did, it didnt detect iPod for another few minutes, and once it did, I would click a song and it would freeze and take about 3 or 4 minutes to start. Even switching songs took forever to work.I noticed that my CPU usage anytime I had iTunes on was 100%! slowing my pc down way too much. a file called services.exe was taking up most of the CPU usage, along with iPodService.exe They were both completely proportional in usage. If services.exe was 60%, ipodservice.exe was 40% equaling 100%. So, I uninstalled iTunes and re installed, and it did nothing. I did different versions as well. If iTunes is off, services.exe's usage goes to 0% and my pc runs fine.if anyone can help me, it would be appreciated.Moderator Edit: Moved topic to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Problem:

So I'm having a serious issue with my 'mouse' which runs on USB. The brand new system worked fine for several months, now this. I don't have any other USB devices but I've tried 2 different mice on 4 different USB plugs and the problem is persisting. So I'm assuming it's a hardware issue, hopefully you wonderful people can help me determine if I'm right.

What happens is that the mouse will stop working and sort of lock up in the top left corner. If I'm playing a game for example, my character will suddenly start spinning around in circles at 100 miles an hour. This is very frustrating. What I have to do to get it functional again is unplug / re-plug the mouse or lift the mouse off the desk 2-3 times (to 'reset the laser' ?) and it starts working again. Occasionally, the right mouse button doesn't work also.

What I've tried so far:

Full virus scan with AVG and MalwareBytes = nothing detected
Reinstalled USB drivers - I reinstalled both the USB controller and the actual USB drivers = not fixed
Tried 3 different mice, on 4 different USB ports = problem persists

System info:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black
MoBo - ASUS M5A97
6 gigs RAM
1TB HD (Western Digital)
ASUS EAH Radeon 6450
The system itself was built by me, and is less than a year old, still under warranty. I really need to make sure that the hardware is faulty before bringing it back because the store is rather far. So, what should I do?... Read more

Try setting the burner as slave and the Cdrom as Master on the appropriate positions on the IDE Cable. Also do you have an audio cable running from both devices to the Motherboard. The Audio Cable is the small usually round cable with a 4 pin plug at each end.

This happens with any of these programs that I have tried, including Roxio. The PC is not detecting the video and audio from the camera. I am using a video capture stick, which is functioning, as it registers that it is on with a green light. I've tried uninstalling the programs and reinstalling them. There are times when it will detect the video, but there is no audio at all, and it doesn't play back through the speakers. The help manual for the programs online are of no help at all. I jus took out my E8200 2.6 and dropped in a E8600 3.33 This is what it`s showing in CPU-z. Whay isn`t the core spedd at 3333 ? The fsb is at the stock 1333, is something wrong , here ?

Thanks

A:E8600 not functioning properly, I think.

That CPU has Intel Speedstep and EIST that controls the voltages and other things which could be lowering that value when it's not under stress. Does the core speed increase while under stress? You should be able to configure this within the BIOS.

Another thing to check is whether or not your motherboard supports those speeds.

I am running an old PC my parents built back in 2001. She has an AMD Athlon 1.9 Ghz processor, 1 gb of ram, and Win xp v. 2002, service pack 3.

So first off I just got this thing back up and running about 3 months ago, the bad memory was actually causing some serious booting issues. Since then, the biggest problem I've had is my wallpaper (admittedly an aesthetic problem) but annoying nonetheless, I'm one of those people who likes something to work at maximum potential.

Now about the issue...

1) I am unable to affect the wallpaper, aside from changing the background color, with any pictures saved to my pc

2) When I set a wallpaper off the internet it stays...until the next time I turn the computer on at which point it dissapears around the time the computer finishes loading everything

3) I've tried changing it by going to 'personalize' and browsing...doesn't do anything

4) I have tried using the gpedit.msc command, enabling the active desktop wallpaper, but it didn't help

Some programs in Win 8.1 are not working on my daughters computer, is it infected?

For instance:
-Can't connect to my network, can't even open Network Connections, it opens up a blank window and just stays there, won't let me close it either.
-I CAN connect to the internet with Chrome and IE.
-Can't open Control Panel, it opens up a blank window and just stays there, won't let me close it either.
-Office 2013 is very slow, by that I mean, I create a new document, click File, wait 10-15 seconds before menu pops up.  Any menu takes time to open.
-I'm sure there are more things that are wrong If I keep poking around, not my NB, but my daughters, said things were very slow before I started cleaning it up.

When I boot to safe mode with network, Network Connections won't open, but Control Panel will.  It will not let me connect to my network in safemode or allow me to connect to the internet via wired or wireless

I've cleaned up best that I can, even uninstalled AVG free at this point.

I've tried to download and run dds, but it says, not meant to run in compatibility mode?
MSconfig settings are: Selective Startup with 3 ticks in Load system services, Load startup items and greyed out but ticked Use original boot configuration.  If I change that to Normal Startup, it re-boots but goes back to Selective startup with same 3 ticks in same boxes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Laptop 1.86Ghz with Windows 7, 32-bit with 2 GB ram.

I recently had a new CPU installed in my computer. When I got my PC back, my 2 USB ports don?t function properly anymore.

The main problem seems to be with my USB Internet modem. (HUWAEI Mobile Connect)

Firstly I checked that the Modem works fine on other computers. I have all the latest drivers installed on my laptop for this modem.

What happens is the following: I put my modem into USB slot 1, and it works for 5 minutes, then disconnects on its own. Then it would work for 30 minutes, and then disconnect on its own, etc.

Worst happens when I put it in USB slot 2, it only connects for a few seconds, then disconnects.

I also cannot put any other items such as a USB memory stick or USB cable into one USB port while the Modem is in another slot. It simply doesn't function.

IN SHORT, I can only use one USB port at a time if I use my Internet Modem, and then my Internet Modem doesn?t even function properly. I can however, use both USB ports if I use other items such as a memory stick or USB cable for printer, other devices. Then the USB porst work fine.

Any help is appreciated. THank You!

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

I have a Hewlett Packard computer and it came with a HP CD-Writer+ 8000 model CD-RW drive. It USED to work perfectly, now apparently it isn't spinning fast enough to keep up with the data being sent. I get an error saying something like "Data transfer too fast" or something and it closes, ruining the CD and leaving me frustrated. PLEASE help me out here. Music is my life.

A:HP CD-Writer+ 8000 not functioning properly

The writer has to spin at a designated speed or the CD will be screwed up. You would get a different message if the recorder wasnít spinning fast enough.

You arenít giving much in the way of details of how you are recording or what. Or with what software.

Ctrl+Alt+Del and remove everything except Explore, Systray and the burning software.

If your major use for the burner is music, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall DirectCD. If you have the original version that came with the burner it can cause problems.

If you donít already have it, get the latest version of the freeware version of AdAware and run it. Spyware can take enough CPU cycles to cause burning problems: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Also run an online virus check if you donít have up to date anti-virus software: There are several available, this is one: http://housecall.antivirus.com/

The problem I am having is that when Windows is loaded, and I do a couple of benchmarks, it shows that my PC is running slower than what it is supposed to perform at. Example:

My Setup: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333, Kingston 1gig PC2700 RAM
Benchmark Results: Performs as AMD Athlon XP 2000+, PC2100 RAM.

Also, When the PC is on, theres a faint screeching noise coming from the CPU. Now, i know the CPU and RAM are fine because they worked like a charm on a previous setup. Also, I know that the jumpers are set correctly for 166. What could be making my PC run so slowely??

A:ECS KM400-M2 Mobo Not Functioning Properly!

To start with, your motherboard is a PoS, but you probably know that already.
Then, the real spead of an XP3000 is only 2100/2167 MHz!
You also need to replace the fan on your CPU-cooler, or at least clean all the dust out of it.

There are 2 versions of XP3000 (see below). You probably run the wrong version for that mobo.

If you're using a board only capable of a 166MHz frontside bus speed and lower, make sure you're not getting the FSB400/200MHz model.

Barton 166MHz FSB: AXDA3000DKV4D. 2167MHz (166x13.0). 1.65v.
Barton 200MHz FSB: AXDA3000DKV4E. 2100MHz (200x10.5). 1.65v.

Have the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth (5 button). I believe it is Bluetooth 2.0. The computer has built-in Bluetooth (3.0?). It is a new HP Envy DV7 (latest model as of 11/14/12).

Computer sees and connected to mouse. Mouse cursor moves and such. I downloaded the Microsoft software for this mouse. I've attempted to assign special key commands for the buttons (such as Ctrl + Z for edit undo).

I put the mouse on our Windows 7 laptop w/ the Bluetooth module that comes with the mouse, everything works. I tried connecting the module (looks like thumb drive) to the Windows 8 laptop w/ built-in Bluetooth, and when viewing "Devices", it shows the module, but says "driver error" below it. Figure it is due to it being the previous Bluetooth 2.0. So I uninstall both the mouse and module, reinstall just the mouse, no luck.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :).

Hello there.

So I have been having problems with my desktop for around 3 months now. Initially it began as restarting and screen flickering. Now it'll often begin flickering, then turn purpleish-with-flickering and eventually crash and show the nv4_mini.sys error.

The weird thing is that I can seem to boot my desktop without my graphics card. Right now I'm on it, but my graphics card is not functioning and cannot be detected. Yet I can use the computer and watch videos. However, I can't load any games (much to my frustration). I can't exactly remember my graphics card model, I think it's a nvidia8400, but I'm far from certain.

My computer is Medion PC MT 7 which I purchased back in 2007. I have never had problems like this before. Also I have tried solving the problem myself by using another power supply cable, cleaning the interior, removing old drivers and installing new ones. (Installing new drivers seems like a temporary solution, it can keep it running for 20 minutes but then it usually crashes)

Any suggestions on what I should do? I have consider buying a new graphics card or a new PSU. But it'd be a big annoyance if I purchased a PSU to find out it's the graphics card. Also I've considered buying a new computer if it wouldn't be affordable to just exchange the card or PSU.

Best regards,
IndieDane

A:Graphics card not functioning properly

Does the motherboard have on board graphics? Have you tried using that and see if the problem persists?

If you could open your computer and get the exact model # of the Nvidia card, it would be really helpful.

Hey guys, somewhat of a weird problem here. I have my screen saver set to start every 3 minutes if the computer is idle. It goes into the screen saver after the 3 minutes. I have my monitor set to turn off at 10. So my screen saver is going at 3 minutes, and after 10 minutes the screen saver turns off and it returns to my desktop.

So what I mean is, after 10 minutes my screen saver just turns off (like I moved the mouse - and no I'm not moving the mouse).

Could a virus be causing this? Thanks for your support!
