Should I install latest NVidia drivers from their website?

Q: Should I install latest NVidia drivers from their website?

Should I download and install the latest NVidia drivers from their website or just use whatever Windows Update installs? Or does Microsoft install the same one?

I use the computer for digital image and video editing I don't do any gaming on this system. So any 'Game Ready' driver sounds like something designed for enhanced features I don't need and, in the case of the latest NVidia driver, caused serious system errors.

I stumbled upon a website that seems to confirm the latest driver is buggy.

Nvidia Users Beware, Latest Driver May Harm Your PC - Allegedly Plagued With Issues

Preferred Solution: Should I install latest NVidia drivers from their website?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Should I install latest NVidia drivers from their website?

Never use the updates from Windows Update. NEVER! Always go to the website and download from there, always. I had to downgrade my driver 364.72 as well, because Farm Sim wasn't running too well. I would keep driver 364.51 (or whatever the previous driver was) just to be on the safe side, until NVidia releases a stable update, then by all means, have at it.

I just found my answer on "tomshardware.com", here it is:

The issue I found with the "%1 is not a valid win32 application" was that the installers were calling on a common installer base to run. As it turned out it was corrupted on my machine. After removing the "Installer2" directory from "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation", I had no more issues.

One of the things I want to pick up with my new X1 Extreme laptop is VR gaming. Although this laptop is equiped with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti graphics card (on top of the standard Intel adapter), this will not suffice for that. Therefore I bought an Aorus GTX1080 Gaming Box which I can connect to one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports. However, I only seem to be able to install the NVIDIA drivers from the Lenovo support site, which are a bit outdated: the latest driver Lenovo offers is version 388.13 while NVIDIA is at 417.35 at this moment. Windows is using the external GPU. The Occulus Rift I got connected to the Gaming Box wants me to install the latest drivers, and I cannot get it to work with the one Lenovo is providing. The NVIDIA installer keeps on telling me that: The standard NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this Windows version. Both the desktop and the notebook version of the NVIDIA driver yield this result.  Things I have tried:Disable the integrated 1050 cardUpdating the BIOS to the latest version (1.15)Updating Windows 10 to the latest version (1809, did not work so I downgraded again to 1803 because there are graphic drivers for that version on the Lenovo site)Upgrade the driver using GeForce Experience (thanks for reminding me @Isafang) Does anyone have any more ideas for me?

Hello community,

I"m having an issue with my display drivers and vista. I have Vista Business x64 with the NVidia FX3800 running dual Acer x223w's. Everything was fine until SP2 was installed a while back. Now, any time the systems starts, is rebooted, goes to sleep, or is locked the secondary monitor is no longer detected by Windows. I've discovered that by trying a combination of turning the monitor on and off, or unplugging and replugging it I can eventually get it to be detected again. But as you can imagine this is very frustrating and annoying to do every time. Additionally, the sequence of what works getting the monitor detected again seems to be different every time. I've tried a few different drivers from NVidia and all seem to have this problem. I'm currently running the latest drivers (191.00). Is this a known bug? Is it being addressed by either nvidia or MS?

any idea on how to solve this?

Thanks for the time.

A:Nvidia's latest drivers (191.00)

I'm kind of guessing on your video card but they just had driver updates. I'm pretty sure for all the cards / OS's version should be 191.07 Release Date: 2009.10.05 hop that works for you that sounds annoying

I first wrote about this issue in another recent thread, when I was trying to deliver HDMI audio+video from my P70 with M3000M NVidia GPU (running Win10) to my LG OLED HDTV connected through either miniDP->HDMI or HDMI->HDMI cables, and failing to get audio. After a fair amount of research I initially came to the eventual conclusion that it was an NVidia problem, somehow related to their latest "retail" 411.95 WHQL driver I was using on my P70 (which was set in the BIOS to run with "discrete graphics").  Reverting back to successively older driver packages also available on the NVidia driver download site, I discovered that version 392.00 was their last WHQL driver package which did successfully install the NVidia HD Audio device which facilitated sending digital audio to an external HDTV via HDMI cable.
So 411.95, 411.81 and 411.63 all failed to install the NVida HD Audio device. But 392.00 (and older versions 391.89, 391.74) all DID install the NVidia HD Audio device. Hmmm.
I opened a ticket with NVidia Tech Support several days ago, and they asked me if I had tried the official Lenovo-provided NVidia Graphics Driver package and if that made nay difference, which to be honest I had not... since I don't run my P70 in Optimus (i.e. "hybrid graphics") mode but rather operate in "discrete graphics" mode and have always used the latest retail NVida drivers. So today I decided to reset my P70 back to "hybrid graphics" mode so that I could install the very... Read more

System Specs: Part1 Part2

Lenovo Ideapad Y500: 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Dual Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB

OK, my problem is: No version newer than the GeForce 307.64 Driver will allow me to utilize SLI.

If you wanna see what I mean, here's the before and after.

My problem isn't really the fact that a whole year's worth of bugfixes, security and performance updates have gone away. I can live with that. My problem is, if I use the old driver that allows for me to run in SLI mode, any game that supports SLI causes my laptop to crash (with no BSOD, so I can't get any sort of error code) immediately after it runs. One weird thing is (see Part2): It still shows I have 4GB of vRAM even though only one 2GB graphics card is actually being utilized.

Can someone help me or give me some advice? It's a little frustrating.

It's the difference between holding steady at 60 with vsync in high/ultra on most games or being barely able to run it at all above medium/high.

TL;DR: Updated to Windows 8.1. SLI support went away for the last year of revisions of Nvidia GeForce drivers. Crashes every time I run games in SLI mode on the driver that actually supports it.

A:Updated to Windows 8.1. No SLI Support for latest Nvidia Drivers.

Seems to be common issue with this model: https://www.google.ca/search?q=windows+8.1+sli+site:forums.lenovo.com&espv=210&es_sm=122

Doesn't seem to be a solution yet, you will have to wait for fix from Lenovo or NVidia or go back to Windows 8 or 7.

I've tried using older beta drivers, and the same result. I don't have any problem running with the 181.2 drivers, but I'd like to update them for better gaming performance

specs: Vista Home Basic 32 bit, Intel Core2 Duo e8400 3.0 ghz, ASUS PN5-D motherboard, 4 gb ddr2 RAM, 2 EVGA 9800 GT's in SLI configuration.

I'd appreciate any help anyone could provide

A:the latest nvidia drivers make my monitor go dark

Try the latest drivers 195.00 .. and you're running Windows Vista 32BIT that is part of the problem.. Doesn't have enough address space to utilize the resources.

Vista Basic is NOT made for gaming. I'd recommend getting a 64-bit OS.

32BIT at MAX will only address 3.3GB of Memory.

I can't tell exactly which could be causing these issues as I updated my flash to 10.1 and my NVIDIA drivers to the latest 257.21 (upgrading from 197.45) at the same time, but I am now (coincidentally?) seeing the two following issues:

1) When playing embedded flash videos in web pages, there is sometimes a green/garbled area on parts of the screen that I never noticed before

2) In re-generating thumbnails of flv videos on my computer, various ones' thumbnail previews are a mostly (or totally) grey/garbled/snow-screen picture

Anyone else experiencing this or having similar issues with one or the other or both?

Just curious.

A:Issues with Adobe Flash 10.1 or latest NVIDIA 257.21 drivers or both?

I'd start by rolling back the video driver and simply rerunning what your were when you experienced the issue, if it goes away you have your answer and a simple fix, if not I'd see if there are posts discussing the 10.1 flash and how folks are dealing with it.

Currently experiencing some sporadic problems with this driver. Basically, I get pink/purple artifacts across the screen and then the system locks up. Sometimes it is able to recover, but sometimes it automatically reboots. It's not the card, as it is working perfectly in the other OSes with the latest appropriate drivers.

Been checking the NVidia forums about this, and I'm not the only one with this problem: Windows 8 Graphic Glitch - NVIDIA Forums and Windows 8 Consumer Preview Geforce Desktop/Notebook Driver Information - NVIDIA Forums - Page 6 describes the symptoms I'm getting perfectly.

It should be pointed out though that issues were present with the graphics drivers with the Beta versions of Windows 7 as well (not necessarily the same issues, but issues nonetheless). Hopefully, these will be ironed out over time.

No point in going with the latest unless there is some fix for certain games and your model of card. This is really all they bring new drivers out for fixing game bugs and making newer cards more compatible.

Hello =)
First of all, thank you so much in advance for reading and any possible help or suggestions to my problem.
My PC has been running fine until last night. After a crash, I tried a normal restart. But as soon as the *loading windows* sign appears, everything turns and remains black.
I can since, only run my PC in safety mode. I have figured out that when I remove the graphic card from the Devise Manager, I am able to boot up my PC normal again and run windows 7 again smoothly.
The issue is, whenever I try to install NVIDIA drivers again, the PC wont boot up, the same issue will occur again with a  black screen&only safety mode. If I use an older driver, windows will boot up, but then my Graphic-software (I need for work) wont run and tells me to *update my NVIDIA* drivers.
I am a bit at the end with ideas of what it could be or how to bypass those issues. I find it odd that until last night, the latest NVIDIA drivers did run on my machine, till the crash happened. So perhaps it is something else?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Okay. This combination of drivers works fine in windows vista 32 bit.. boots up fine and everything. Today I finally got my SSDD for my OS and a copy of Windows 7 64 bit. I installed it fine without error. Then installed my chipset drivers that I downloaded off of Nvidia's website (64 bit, worked fine, rebooted), installed my nvidia display drivers, rebooted.. now whenever I start windows up. I get the flowery blue background windows logo. It just hangs there and never boots. However it will boot fine into safe mode and AFTER I uninstall the display drivers... though my gaming computer is going to be pretty useless if I can't game with it!

Relevant Info

Asus Striker II Formula (with 15.58 64 bit drivers installed)
2x SLI EVGA Geforce 560 TI 448 Special Edition (with64 bit 310.90 Drivers Installed)

I am going to try installing the motherboard chipset drivers from Asus's website to see if that helps any.. i believe the version number is 15.43, then try reinstalling the video drivers.. however I dont think this is going to make much a difference.

If anyone out there can help. Please. I need it.

Hi all....

I'm posting this in 2 places hoping to get a solution....

I cannot install any of the newer NVIDIA updates; WHQL or Beta. None of the 275's will install, no matter what i try to do or how i try to do it. I am currently running on the 259.87 package that came with my graphics card. It's not bad, but i would really like to have the extra functionality that comes with the newest updates.

I have done both an Express and Custom w/clean install and it always fails right at the point that the install gets to the Control Panel part of the installation. I've tried every trick i can find on the web to no avail. I AM the administrator, and I have also tried using the Admin account - with zero luck. I've tried stepping thru the installation with the 260.99 & 270.61 updates and have the same problem over and over.

So, is there a reasonable and logical explanation for all this - along with, one hopes - a reasonable and logical solution? Or is there a ghost in the machine with a bad attitude? NVIDIA swears the newest updates work, and I see folks in this forum saying they do, but I can't figure out why.

Any help out there?

My microphone volume is really low and has been for a long time, I figured I could install the latest drivers to see if it made a difference since I am just using whatever Windows 8 decided to install automatically. Sound is fine other than the microphone volume.

However when I downloaded the Realtek drivers via Gigabyte or the Realtek site itself, it extracts the installer and all just says "Setup.exe has stopped working".

I've tried just seeing if it'll start with compatibility mode but it's still the same, I do not already have any Realtek software installed other than the Ethernet drivers. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64, I've certainly downloaded the 64-bit drivers.

I`ve tried using the device and printers with the disbling the windows update of devices to no avail.
Any ideas or can i jts put my new nvidia drivers over the top of the wddm 1.1 drivers.
Ver yconfused have tried many times now.
Thanks for any help

A:Trying to install new nvidia drivers

The driver installs usually tell you to uninstall the old driver first, but I've never done that. I just install the new driver over top of the old driver and haven't had any problems - either with ATI or NVIDIA drivers.

Hey Folks,
I have a HP G70-120 laptop and I am running Windows 7 32 Bit.

Recently I uninstalled the previous default driver (258.96) and tried installing the new driver (306.23) . Everytime I try the new driver installation fails.

I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned in Ultimate Nvidia Driver Guide at : http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1174372&mpage=1

I have:
1. Uninstalled Nvidia Drivers from the Programs and Features. It said it uninstalled but the icon was not removing.
2. Manually cleaned all the driver leftover files.
3. Cleaned all driver files that were leftover even after step 2, using Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode.

Note: I rebooted PC everytime, and I checked manually and with Auto-Detect on Nvidia Driver Download Page to check the compatibility of the driver with my graphics card and it is compatible. I read the complete release notes with 306.23. I also tried installing the default/old driver. It says its installed, but checking Device Manager and Programs and Features, it isnt installed. And currently I am with Standard VGA Adapter. Also note that, I believe its a pesky software problem, and would like to try everything I can before taking it to the shop, because shops here in Bangladesh make things worse (they damaged my microphone and webcam once while trying to fix display panel )

I have been trying to solve this problem for TWO WEEKS and I am frustrated to infinity!!

For goodness sake, does anybody know how to solve this problem??

I tried to upgrade my Nvidia drivers from 178.13 to the latest version (180.48). Although I never had problems with upgrading my drivers before, this time it seems impossible! I uninstall the old ones, use driver cleaner.net on safe mode, install the new ones, but every time I get the message that there are no changes on the system and have to repeat the installation process. It also seems impossible to rollback by installing the old drivers again! The only way to return to the old settings is to use Windows update (system restore doesn?t work). I tried all possible driver packages from Nvidia but nothing works! Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot..

A:Can't install Nvidia drivers

Ok, stupid question but:

1.- How are you uninstalling the drivers

2.- Are you restarting before using the Registry cleaner?

3.- Are you installing the new ones as an Administrator (right click on file and run as admin)?

I got this computer not a week ago with Vista 64-bit and a GeForce GTX 295 and when I tried to update the drivers the installer seemed to be working until I was told to restart the system and then when the computer booted up again I had no drivers for the card at all. I have had the problem of installers that required a restart not finishing the install previously but have never solved it. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Only got my new Dell Inspiron this week.

Looked forward to playing among other games Battlefield 1. Unfortunately it does a driver check and the latest drivers on the Dell website are too old to run the game. Tried updating via the Geforce experience and by downloading manual drivers, but even though it identifies the card and current version in the experience when it tries and installs it says no compatible hardware found.
I love the laptop otherwise, but when you spend that much you expect to play the latest games.
There looks to be some complex fixes but would rather hope there is a simpler solution.

I was trying to get Aero to run on my Vista X64 so I followed the steps in the Windows help files. Wen I ran the performance tools and did the ''update my score'' I found out that my gaming graphic score was only 1.

I have an Intel Duo 6600 2.40GHz.
4GB Ram
MoBo ASUS SKT.775 INTL P35 3PCI/ *
Vista x64 Home premium
NVDIA 880GT 512MB... so I should get a better score and be able to run Aero.

I decided to check my drivers and see if they were new ones available thinking that might fix my problem. I'm running so I download the new drivers and try to install them... I'm told I'm running the 32 bit version so I can't uninstall and then it tries to install and I'm told again I'm running the 32 bit version.

Anybody knows what's going on? Is there something I can do? And why is my performance score so low with what is supposed to be a good card?

A:Can't install new drivers for NVIDIA 8800GT

OK, it sounds like you have the default Windows Update drivers (I beleive that those correspond to the 169.14 drivers), and that is not a good thing - but even with those drivers you should be getting a much better score than 1.0.

nVidia just released new 177.35 drivers - did you get those? If you did, and it is not working, you can use Driver Sweeper to remove our current nVidia drivers and then try installing the latest 177.35 Vista x64 drivers.

I decided to install the BETA version however when I uninstalled the current drivers I have (using uninstall or change a programs/safe mode DDU) I encounter an issue and the install fails.
I've used CCleaner to make sure there's no traces left. I've located the Folders and removed them. Went into Regedit and deleted anything Nvidia.
What can I do. I'm trying to avoid a Restore... My Internets slow so I'm trying to avoid downloading everything again.

I'm currently using 337.88 (fresh from the Nvidia website)
I've tried Custom Installation (Perform a clean install)
And the recommended settings

You should never install BETA drivers on your system, if that is the main computer you use.
They are issued for testing purposes and feedback to the issuer
We remind everyone that the drivers that NVIDIA and ATI have just released are beta graphics drivers and may cause more problems than fixes. Beta drivers should be considered “buggy” and if you aren’t having any current issues with your stable driver release – just wait for the official release of the Beta.
AND THE OFFICIAL Nvidia statement
Beta drivers are provided by NVIDIA as preview releases for quick bug fixes and access to new features. Beta drivers are under qualification testing, and may include significant issues. It is the end user's responsibility to protect system and data when using Beta drivers with NVIDIA products. It is strongly recommended that end users back up all the data prior to using Beta drivers from this site. Please ensure that newer Recommended/Certified drivers are not already posted on NVIDIA.com prior to installation and usage of Beta drivers. Beta drivers posted do not carry any warranties nor support servicesClick to expand...

Additionally the use of CCleaner and particularly your use of regedit is unnecessary and extremely risky
The fact that there may remain minute traces of a driver after uninstalling in programs and features is of no consequence, whereas the deletion of registry keys and values MAY be of great consequence

Hello all,

I'm trying to deal with my BSOD during all the day without any success, the first BSOD appeared this morning, after this one I wasn't able to start up my computer so I decided to format directly.

All was fine after the format till I installed the latest Nvidia Drivers for my gpu (MSI gtx 580), after install the drivers and the recommended system restart, the BSOE appeared again all time (just after the windows loading, never reach the desktop).

I tried uninstall the the latests Nvidia drivers and I tested also with other 3-6 old official drivers but the result was the same.

The strange thing is that the system works fine without any GPU drivers but ofc my GPU is not working as it should.

Another strange thing is the motherboard image display, it have some artifacts that appeared together with the problem.

I'm totally desperate and this forum is my last option.

Thank you all.

A:BSOD Only after install (any) NVIDIA Drivers

I am having the exact same problem, with the same card. I was pretty sure the card was dead, but it seems very odd that you are experiencing the same problem and symptoms as I am on the same day. I really hope there is a solution and that the card isn't dead.

EDIT: I tried re-seating the card. Still having the same problem. I am going to try it in a mates computer and see what happens.

hi xtream,
If you have installed this NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ 310M  driver:
NVIDIA Display Driver (v8.16.11.8969)
Windows 7 32bitIN3VDO35WW5.exe74.0MB
Have you tried to::
1. Install the  Intel Onboard Graphics Driver without any problems? (this unit comes with dual video card - Intel + NVIDIA)2. Install the latest NVIDIA drivers via NVIDIA website ?
Please check the source of the error inside of Windows (click start > type eventvwr.msc > click Custom Views > Administrative Tools) if the NVIDIA graphics driver installation still fails.

i just recently downloaded a graphics driver. But when i tried to execute the installer, while the package is checking for compatibility of my hardware then eventually it shows "No internet connection". Well, my internet is down right now. Is there any possibility to cracked it down and install it offline? Nice to be back here, after a while. Thanks!

A:How to install New NVIDIA drivers offline.

Found a thread in their forums that could help you. How to install Drivers without internet connection?

For the sake of posterity (in case link dies) I'm copying the relevant parts and mirroring the image.

Go to your C:\NVIDIA folder and drill down through the display driver's subfolders to delete that for the GeForce Experience, then come back up to your language folder and start the Setup again...

and you can delete the MS.NET folder as well.

As to which driver to look into - well, which one will you try to install?

Your language, if not the International version, will be where you see the International folder - such as English. The driver setup.exe is located there...

If you want so badly their Experience software (which is to most accounts bloatware) you need to install/update .net framework 4 from here (yeah it's a web installer ). As it seems it wants to connect to the Internet to install/update it because it's needed by the Experience, if you have it already, it will go on with the installation without asking for internet connection.

I have already a ready usb disk on key with the windows ready for installing.

I have nvidia gtx 770 video card.
Now i have the latest drivers 350.12 but i want to make a new clean install of my windows 8 and the problem is that windows will install the latest drivers but i want it to install drivers version 347.88.

Can i force the windows in the installation options while installing to install the version 347.88 ? If not can i force windows not to install the video card drivers at all so i can install it later ?

And after installing 347.88 can i set somewhere in the windows that it will not try to install in the future the latest video drivers version and only will alert if there is a new version ?

A:How can i install windows 8 without the nvidia drivers ?

windows 8.1 setup media will not install the newest drivers - windows update will - once you get online..

during installation - do not connect to your router (internet) - thus preventing the driver download..

install your 347 driver - connect to the internet and install the updates (this will update all your drivers)
after all the updates are completed. going through device manager Roll back the video driver to 347

if that does not work un-install the 350 driver through device manager and it should roll back to 347

Actually you will have both driver versions on your PC but you will have to tell device manager to roll back to the older version..

you could also block automatic driver updates > control panel > system > advanced system properties > Hardware > device installation settings
