I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just installed a new non-genuine battery and I am experiencing problems with it on my laptop. Lenovo battery manager is showing the battery alternating between three different states: (0%, 100%, "error detected"). The blinking lamp battery indicator on the top cover of the laptop is alternating between blinking orange and green as well. I have tried updating the battery firmware, but it says that I already have the newest update: When I disconnect the laptop from AC, the laptop turns off immediately. Did I install a defective battery? I hopy you can help! Regards.

Hello there!I've been having some issues with my screen on 2 gen X1 Carbon - it freezes and sometimes it starts to flash at the edges after I close my notebook and open it again, so I have to try to move it into the right position so it can unfreeze. Sometimes pressing on the certain places helps, at the bottom of the display near these dark lines. First I thought that the problem is in the display cable, so I installed a new one, but it didn't help. I noticed that touchscreen works fine even when display is blacked out. What should I do, maybe someone had some simular issues? Sorry for pics quality, I can attach better ones if needed. Thanks for any help!

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello everybody, is there anybody that has upgraded his 3rd Gen X1 Carbon to a 1TB ssd? I'm running out of place and would like to have a bigger ssd and do not know which one I could use. I tried reading in the forums, but was not able to find out which SSD would work. Somehow NVMe is not supported, it has to be a PCIe SSD (I think), but I'm not too familiar with these things. I looked at the new Samsung SM961 1TB that is just coming out, would that be able to work? The specs are here: https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/c/4/4/9/618ff48c1c0dc799c9442fd598fa06935527.pdf Any help would be deeply appreciated.Regards,Jochen

Hey everyone. I was looking to buy a new laptop this year after using my MBP for like 7 years now. After making a long term decision of not buying the newest 6g X1 Carbon because there are still some things that trouble me a little, i've listed some improvements i think that need to be made before i can consider this the perfect laptop it almost could have been (in order of importance):change aspect ratio (something like 3:2)improve reflection on HDR screenmake machines compatible out of the box with widespread linux distros like ubuntu out of the box (no driver issues, no deep sleep bugs,...)option for no fingerprint reader (it kills the design a little bit and there are some people who still dont use it at all; i know you can deactivate it)updated webcam (could be considered an important thing for some business people if you ask me)updated speakers; the ones being used now are on the low end of "OK" and i think there is def some room to upgrade even if its not designed as a media deviceof course if possible id love to see some graphics and RAM upgrades aswell but for a notebook as thin as this one i think those specs might need to suffice for another 2-3 generations.et another thing about blowing air outside the right side where your mouse potentially is could get a rework aswell.let me know what you think; obviously everyone has different wants and needs for a machine but if the maxed out or even just standard device is that expensive some of those suggestions above could ... Hi, I just got the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon and the Always-on usb does not seem to work. The USB on the right side of the machine works but the left side is unresponsive. I've tried pluging in my phone, a usb reciever for a wireless mouse, and a usb drive. Is there something I need to do to activate the USB port?

Hi rtann27

I had the same problem, i opened the laptop and saw, that the flat cable leading from the small usb board was not properly conected to the mainboard. A little pressing against the cable solved the problem.

When you turn on the laptop all you get is the back-light.  You don't get the splash screen, POST or anything else for that matter. I've tried using the FN+F7 to make sure it wasn't set to projector mode but that didn't do anything.  It's like the power cable to the LCD is connected but the data cable is disconnected.  I suspect this is the case due to the screen going "weird" as the user puts it.  I also suspect that it might have been dropped. What I am wondering is if there's a BIST (Built-in Self Test) for the LCD or anything like that.  I'd love to avoid the support charges. Also, the numbers on the white tags on the back of the laptop have worn off, is there a way to get the serial number without the original paperwork?

Hello, What would one need to play a Dolby Vision UHD Blu-Ray disc on this laptop that has a DV screen? Is it a matter of just waiting for PowerDVD to support DV? What about playing a regular H.265 movie file that has Dolby Vision? Note: for what it's worth, as the laptop has no optical drive it will be a case of playing an .iso of the disc that has been ripped using my desktop PC. The CPU supports SGX. PS: I also read somewhere that Dolby Vision will only be enabled with a future system update, is this still the case? Thanks.

I received my new silver matte Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptop less than 3 weeks ago and it already has a slight skim mark in the lid!  I tried to lightly rub it off with a cotton cloth because I thought is was a scuff mark on the surface.  That didn't work.  After a closer inspection, I realized that the lid paint was skimmed!  Does Lenovo sell touch up paint for the silver matte finish? Does anyone have any suggestions how I can refinish my lid?  It seems that the new silver matte color is not as durable as the traditional black!

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 5 On the bottom right corner of the keyboard, there is a rattling noise when the laptop is shaken or moved. I opened the back cover to try to discover the source of the sound but I can't seem to find it. The laptop was purchased around 5 months ago, and I just discovered this issue. From what I can tell, the issue doesn't seem to affect performance but just poses a simple nuisance. The sound appears to be originating from the vent on the bottom of the laptop. sounds like there is either a small object moving around or perhaps a cable hitting the chassis. any insight on the origin of the issue or possible solutions would be appreciated.

My current Lenovo is a refurbished one and has a storage drive of 117GB. I desperately need more and have already gone through external storage drive, and also USB.  Is it possible to add more storage drive space or SSD to this Thinkpad? What is most compatible with it?  Thank you for your time

A:Adding more storage space on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen

2nd gen means the model number starts with 20A7 or 20A8.  Those drives were all SATA based, so most retail 2280-format SSDs will work (not NVMe).  The biggest drives that were sold with the machine were 512GB, although 1TB and 2TB drives can be found.  The safest thing is to buy one with a Lenovo FRU on it.  Here is the parts list"  (SSDs are at the bottom)

Hello, We have an Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (20A7, 20A8) Windows 10 x64 and the computer performance slowed down since we updated the system with Lenovo utility, the most relevant update is BIOS update us 1.31.1.19. The CPU usage increases from 5% to 9x% with no reason and its continiously increasing and decreasing without opened applications, we also installed Intel IO updates. Somebody have the same situation or knows how to fix it? Thanks,Regards

A:Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen slow performance after installing Lenovo updates

That is the reason why I always going to see forums of new updates, those updates are like beta, with bugs and other things that cost us to waiste our time fixing it and getting stressed.I got critical update about bios, but as my performance is great I don't updating anything. My answer would be, to backup your bios version, it will get things back to work properly. And for future just don't install anything, after installing it cost problems.Yesterday I wanted to download program, yeah downloaded virus too, rofl, internet is full of virus, so technical supports could make more money ( if you can't fix yourself)

I'm trying to connect my X1 Carbon (4th Gen) to a monitor using HDMI. I have a Lenovo OnePlus dock, which has DisplayPort and VGA outputs but no HDMI. My monitor has VGA, HDMI, and DVI inputs but no DP. I've tried two DP to HDMI adapters (one passive, one active) but neither will work -- I get neither video nor audio. I've already tried updating the BIOS and the graphics driver. I tested this setup on an X230, which also has a DP output. That didn't work, either. I assumed the monitor's DVI input or the cable were bad -- until I tried setting the X230's BIOS display config to use DP during startup. Suddenly, the output worked -- until the boot sequence ended. Then it stopped. This indicates that the DP output on the X230 works, the HDMI input on the monitor works, and the cable and adapter work. So why can't I see video after the machine boots? I can't try this test on the X1. I was only able to get back into the X230's BIOS by connecting the monitor to an HDMI cable (my Pro Dock has an HDMI output). But the X1 and dock lack HDMI connections, so if I think I'll be unable to get back into the BIOS if I set the boot display to digital. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd generation. Two days ago, I have updated the BIOS to the latest version 1.12. The installation went well and I successfully booted into Windows 10 with no issues. However, the fan was not working anymore. I did not notice this until the laptop was extremely hot (which is very unusual for this laptop under low/medium load). In particular, I was just running a "disk cleanup" using the native Windows tool and after 5 minutes I decided to kill the process (this operation usually takes 1-2 minutes). My feeling was that due to the temperature the cpu was in throttling. At that moment, I noticed that the fan was not active. After a shutdown, the fan was again working. However, I noticed that the fan kicks in much more often than it was used to. For this reason, I did two things:- I have downgraded the BIOS to 1.11: BIOS 1.12 updated the CPU microcode, I am not sure that the microcode was downgraded as well when I downgraded the BIOS. - I have run the "Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool": I was afraid that the high temperatures may have damaged the cpu. The tool reported that the maximum temperature of the cpu during the benchmark was always safely within the expected threshold and all the tests were passed. Now, I still can see that the fan kicks in much more often than usual. I have noticed, using sensors under Ubuntu 15.10, that every time there is a very short burst/peak of... Read more

My Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th 20FB with Win10 was working fine with Photoshop when it had Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550 Using the Lenovo Companion, I let it upgrade the graphics driver to V21.20.16.4718 back in late July.  Immediately after this upgrade, Photoshop no longer rendered images properly, making it useless.  Images that are opened do not appear on the screen and the UI is jumbled.  I reverted to driver v21.20.16.4550 through Companion as that version was still listed, and everything was fine again.  I noticed the other day upon opening Photoshop that I had the rendering problem again.  I checked my graphics driver version in Device Manager, and somehow it updated to v22.20.16.4785 (although I cannot figure out how, as Lenovo Companion does not show an update to this version in its history, and neither does Windows Update). All I want to do is rollback my graphics driver to v21.20.16.4550, which I know works.  But this is not an option any longer in Companion, and this version is not present on the Lenovo website either.  Obtaining this version through 3rd party websites is not Lenovo specific and refuses to install. Please provide me a link or a place to go where I can get Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550

Hi, I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen which came with the USB-C docking station. I have a USB headset (Logitech), plugged into the docking station, which I use for Skype calls. The laptop runs Win 10 Pro. The problem is this: I'll start a Skype call with the audio routed to the headset, both speaker and microphone. The headset is also configured in Windows Control Panel as the default speaker. A minute or so into the call, the speaker audio will drop out and revert to the laptop's built-in sound card. Even though Skype is set to route the audio to the headset, the audio doesn't make it to the headset, it just goes out the laptop analog audio. I get the idea that this is a problem with the DisplayLink driver for the docking station. I tried updating the driver but it says that I have the latest version (even though it's dated 2006?!?).  Any ideas?  Thanks! - bill.

Windows 10 Windows Update state is about 2-3 weeks old. The problem did not exist from the beginning, it only began some time in the fall, if I am not mistaken, so I am suspecting the last Windows 10 Upgrade (Fall Creators Update). Any ideas, anything known? Thank you

We recently upgraded 5 users from X1C5thgens to 6thgens but the  ThinkPad USB-C Dock Model 40A9 keeps disconnecting the mice and keyboards intermintebtly  and sometimes there is a clicking sound coming from in the docks themselves. The only way to resolve the issue is to power cycle the dock  an the issue goes away until it happens again. I called Lenovo but they dont have any information me so i was wondering if anyone is experiencing these issues with the docks and the 6thgens  Thank you
