WMP cannot be played in firefox [probably has trojan, moved from Multimedia]

Q: WMP cannot be played in firefox [probably has trojan, moved from Multimedia]

Hello all, im new here. I've been having this problem quite a while now but I've never bothered to fix it at all and now i kinda got irritated by it ;[ everytime i go and try stream a video that uses window media player, my firefox closes and shows an error.. i got no idea whats going on i redownloaded the WMP plugin and i still didnt get a fix. plz help

Preferred Solution: WMP cannot be played in firefox [probably has trojan, moved from Multimedia]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is what happens...

I get "blue screen of death"

*** STOP: 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

when I try to play:

Half Life 2 Episode 1 (when I click "new game" it loads, I hear spawn? sound and my computer turns off)
Need for Speed Carbon (after I choose my career car)
Need for Speed Unferground 2 (when I start any race)
and NFS Most Wanted (when I get arrested)

I've played all these games before with no problems. Half Life 2 and HL2 EP2 run perfectly without any crash.

If you have any idea how to fix this and/or what's the problem, please let me know.

A:0x0000007F on games I've played before[moved]

look that over.according to microsoft thats normally caused by hardware failure.which probably isnt your problem being you have other games that play fine.have you updated any drivers lately like right before the problems started?have you added any hardware,or made any other changes?

Firefox version 57.02 64 bit
The above link is an example of a video that won't play if I click it, I get the media could not be played. If I right click the video and choose "open link in new private window" it plays fine. What gives, I have had this ever since the new version of Firefox came out, Firefox was never installed on my computer until the new version came out. Although I like the new Firefox this alone will cause me to uninstall it for good, any ideas guys? The only addon I have is Ublock Origin and disabling that does not fix it.

Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

Can you give us the error in full that you are getting. Also, I would check and make sure that ZoneAlarm and Avast are allowing FF to connect to the internet.

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Is this Win 7 or Firefox at fault? Moved from Mozilla/Firefox browsers

I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

Hello. I have no idea where these trojans originated from, but they are changing how my PC is working. The speed of the PC hasn't slowed down significantly. However, when I'm browsing the web things load, but it lags a lot and I sometimes hear random talking coming through my headphones (not ads, from computer). Also, when I do searches on Google on Firefox, it redirects me to links with advertisements. I usually have to go back and click the link again. It usually goes to the advertisement, first, however. This isn't happening in IE for some reason.

I have done a quick scan/complete scan on Kaspersky Anti Virus 2010 and disinfected all problems. I have also ran a Malwarebyte's scan and disinfected all threats on that. The symptoms, however, still remain and I have noticed that the speed of my PC is starting to slow down even more.

Dear BleepingComputer folk,
My laptop is running Firefox 40.0.3 under Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
The Problem
Two nights ago my browser (then Firefox 40.0.2) started opening some webpages extremely slowly, simply refusing to open others and producing a "This document has been moved here" message for others (see below screenshot - the link would appear to go to whatever I searched for, but I never clicked it).
These various problems were affecting familiar websites that I have bookmarked and regularly open, such as Facebook.  This seemed to be in some way related to the cache, as it was not affecting new URLs that I had not visited previously during that browsing session.
SCREENSHOT #1 - result of attempt to visit https://mail.riseup.net via browser bookmark:

In addition, when using Google Toolbar (but not https://www.google.co.uk/ , which appeared fully functional) to search for anything I would receive the same: "This document has been moved here", but with an additional "302 Moved" message.
SCREENSHOT #2 - result of attempt to search for http://www.facebook.com/ via Google Toolbar:

Attempting to access attachments in gmail also produced a similar message (I don't have a screenshot of this, but I believe the message there again differed slightly, saying that the document was "temporarily" moved).  This is what I encoun... Read more

I replaced my old antivirus (AVG) with Bitdefender today, and no sooner had I started the program than it threw up a virus alert, saying it had detected and deleted a virus - Trojan.PWS.Agent.SHZ. As soon as it told me that, it did it again - and again, and again, and again. The infected file seems to be "xocgme.sst" in the Windows folder, but it constantly replaces itself as soon as it's deleted, whether by me or Bitdefender, adding an "x" to the end of the file name each time. I can't find much about this trojan on the Internet (unless I'm not looking properly), and Bitdefender's constant alerting and deleting is slowly the computer down dreadfully. What can I do to get rid of this trojan for good?

At first it started as pop-up internet explorer windows while browsing in Firefox and re-directs in Google when I clicked on a link (however I can copy the link from a google search and paste it in a new window). Then whatever I have seemed to disable my internet connection after a couple of minutes (almost like it new I was trying to figure out how to get rid of it!). I have done some work at trying to remove the problem and it seems like everything is better EXCEPT that Google keeps redirecting - so I know not everything has been cleaned! I have a spotty and slow wireless connection for this computer so I would rather not use an online scanner if I don't have to but I will do what it takes if that is the case.

Looking forward to some help. Attached is my HiJackThis Log from earlier today. Thanks!

Hello! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. In order to see what's going on with your computer I'll ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:Link 1Link 2Link 3Important!You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Make sure that you save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Don't know if anyone can help, but hope someone can offer suggestion.

I have a website and the index page has a 'drop-down' menu (for various pages on the site) where visitors can click and go to other pages on the site.

When I view the INDEX page in IE6, the 'drop-down' menu appears in the center of the page, where we want it to appear.

However, when we view the INDEX page in Firefox, the 'drop-down' menu appears on the left side of the page.

Would anyone know what we might have to do (correct) to make the 'drop-down' menu on the INDEX page appear in the center of page when viewed on Firefox?

Here is the beginning part of the HTML for the 'drop-down' menu:

<SCRIPT language=JavaScript>
function formHandler(){
var URL = document.form.mysites.options
parent.location.href = URL;

We need to see the site to work out problems such as these.

At a glance of the snippet of code you have provided, I would guess its to do with firefox's defualt values compared to IE. Using <p> tags for a layout element such as a menu isn't a great idea.

If you show us the site I can do some tests and try to find the problem.

I see this on my XP laptop from time to time. The scrollbars jiggle around and won't stay still, making it annoying to try to read a page that is going up and down. It eventually settles down after awhile.

Is this definitely a symptom of infection? I scan the hell out of this thing. I have McAfee anti-virus and anti-spyware on it fully updated and scanning 3 times a week, and also scan using BitDefender and TrendMicro online scans now and again (each once within past 2 wks). And further, I also scan from time to time using updated Ad-Aware, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, SpywareDoctor.

Is the occassional jigglyness normal? Does it happen on clean machines? If so, I won't worry. For the moment, I worry a bit.

Any info very appreciated.

A:Jiggly scrollbars in IE and Firefox -- a symptom or not?[Moved from Gen Sec]

Is it the scrollbars or is it your mouse? I'm not immediately aware of an infection that will cause those symptoms, but it's still a possibility. However, I would check things like your OS - is it patched up to date, are all your hardware drivers up to date, any errors showing up in Event Viewer, that kind of thing.

A:IE7 freezes on loading yahoo.com, but not firefox [Moved from IE]

Well I went into safe mode and loaded the site up just fine, then in IE7-it just finally loaded up.(that was a couple days ago).
But now sometimes I'll find a few random sites where it freezes up in IE7 and when I go into safe mode and load it up, it seems to fix it in Normal mode.

PC World.com, also gave me that. And a link inside PC world, did the same thing. Then I went into Safe mode again, then normal mode again and that loaded, from being froze too.

Thing is I keep finding sites where it will freeze on me, but I've been using my parents IE7 as well on those same site and their browser never froze once, and this computer has been infected before once (their computer), but my computer is CLEAN. I even have uniblue registry booster to scan my computer as well (note that I put this on after having these IE7 problems).

I have also reformatted my hard drive, just 12 hours after my first post, but this problem came back. I'm really clueless as to what's going on, or if I happen to have a very stealthy virus (have 2 anti-viruses, 1 anti-spyware program running on my computer all the time). Help Me!

In response to Dan's (dtae) posting entitled "sponsored links" on left in Firefox" I too have just got this infuriating problem.
The sponsored links on the left are not solely Google related nor it would seem solely Firefox related!!!
In Firefox the left links are present in a Google or Yahoo search.
They are not present when using IE or Safari.
However, they are also NOT present in Firefox when using the Google related search 'Locate Me'.
I have also run 'CustomizeGoogle' in Firefox and this does not touch these particular links.
I have run various malware scans and nothing has been thrown up. Nor has my constantly running PCGuard found anything!
I will keep an eye on Dan's posting and hope the above info will help.

So if I save a bookmark on my PC, I can then use Firefox on my Smart phone and the bookmark will appear there and can be used by FireFox.

Its not really a backup. It just makes what ever your syncing available on all devices that use FireFox.

When I'm at a search engine and am looking for images, Firefox automatically resizes large images which I don't want it to do. When I changed the setting at about:config to set this to "false," it made no difference. Now I'm at a loss.

If you are looking at a page of search results, it may be that the search engine is sending scaled down versions of the found images. What search engine are you using?

Regedit will not open and the AVG updater says that access if forbidden. Saw an earlier post on this from April 22nd 2009 by ruold2 who was helped by farbar. Seems like I am having the same issue. I followed the steps in that post but one of the files I am supposed to delete is not there. I assume maybe that is case sensitive so I have no idea where to go from there. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.alternate download linkNote: The file will be randomly named (i.e. 5mkuvc4z.exe).Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on the randomly named file to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current versionRead the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders). If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window. If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. IN FACT: From our last discussion about the favorite tab in Interent explorer being unreadable and corrupted message popping up.....

When I click on the destop or in the start menu on icon of fire fox, I NOW get the same message except different location in the files...now its not only my favorites for internet explorer but App data location and I cant download Adobe 10 which is at the end of the file path indicated or for that matter download any other new program that may help my computer. After this message pops up about not Adope 10 in the App data being dorrupted and unreadable- firefox WILL open but why are these corrupted unreadable messages poppoing up in links connected my net? HELP, could this be a virus? and why wont my scan suggested by TROLL complete to 100%?PLEASE ANS. ALL ABOVE QUESTIONS AND HOPEFULLY FIND ME A SOLUTION-GETTING WORRIED:(

Hello, this is my first post on these forums.

I started getting blue screens randomly and kept having to reboot my PC. The only spyware/virus program I use is stopzilla because I have the whole version if it. I did a scan today and it deteced a bunch of search engine hijackers and also a trojan that was called "skynet".

Even when stopzilla detected the trojan and removes it, it comes back always when I reboot. Same with the search hijakers. . I really don't know what to do and would appreciate it very much any help anyone can give me.

Also, when it does cause me to get a blue screen. It's a message that starts with Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Im afraid a rootkit is causing this but i I dont know enough about them to be sure.

Norton Antivirus 2006 (fully up to date) has blocked it a bunch of times, and I have already tried to use Symantecs Vundofix removal tool which tells me to enter the paths recommended in the forum (hence here I am!) I have restarted in safe mode (XP restore off) and done spy sweeps, virus scans and adware scans using adaware, norton antivirus and spybot search and destroy.

I am running win XP pro ver.2002, SP2.

Hello, I started getting popups telling me i need to install winifighter a few months ago, and have been trying to remove the cause (unsuccessfully). The malware seemed pretty harmless (redirecting google searches done in IE [which I hardly ever use] and fake alert popups telling me to install winifighter [in ALL browsers]). I followed directions on a thread here created by someone with similar symptoms and it appeared to be gone... but RootRepeal found C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ESQULntyxtuwuybwwakiwqtoqxwbapqmbgcij.sys in hidden services which was part of the rootkit and I thought was gone. Then the popup reappeared while I was using firefox (screencap attached) and I've kind-of given up hope correcting this myself... help, please?
I'll post screenshots, logs, etc. when asked

Symptoms: numerous anti-malware programs fail to run, avg crashes, fake windows security alerts in all browsers, a large number of junk files in system32 named things like 5tealdatadkhjdfbkh.bin (bin, cpl, and exe files)

EDIT:spelling, added more symptoms and screencap

Symantec Auto-Protect is reporting a trojan has been detected but the system scan turns up nothing. The files it is finding are created in the \\windows\temp directory. But when you go to find the files, the files have already been removed. The files appear with a random name with .qef extension. The files started out being named 4A3xxxxx.qef but are now 4Axxxxxx.qef. So although the 4A portion is consistant, I think that's only by luck. It appears the Trojan needs the presence of an internet. When the network cable is disconnected, the Trojan does not appear.

I have tried Symantec, AVG, super anti-spyware, ad-aware, spybot, windows defender. I have updated definitions and gotten the latest and greatest and none of them have found this Trojan.

After further investigation, I started disabling services since I've read that some Trojans can attach themself to a service. I have discovered the Trojan only appears when the Symantec auto-protect service (rtvscan.exe) is running.

I would attach a DDS report, but I've already tried posting 4 times with it and it does not let me.

I have searched the registry for anything that might be attached to the rtvscan.exe and foudn nothing out of the ordinary.

Any thoughts? Has anyone seen this before? Any recommendations?
