Preferred Solution: WMP cannot be played in firefox [probably has trojan, moved from Multimedia]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is what happens...

I get "blue screen of death"

when I try to play:

Half Life 2 Episode 1 (when I click "new game" it loads, I hear spawn? sound and my computer turns off)
Need for Speed Carbon (after I choose my career car)
Need for Speed Unferground 2 (when I start any race)
and NFS Most Wanted (when I get arrested)

I've played all these games before with no problems. Half Life 2 and HL2 EP2 run perfectly without any crash.

If you have any idea how to fix this and/or what's the problem, please let me know.

look that over.according to microsoft thats normally caused by hardware failure.which probably isnt your problem being you have other games that play fine.have you updated any drivers lately like right before the problems started?have you added any hardware,or made any other changes?

Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

Hi,

Can you give us the error in full that you are getting. Also, I would check and make sure that ZoneAlarm and Avast are allowing FF to connect to the internet.

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Is this Win 7 or Firefox at fault? Moved from Mozilla/Firefox browsers

Hi,
I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

Hello. I have no idea where these trojans originated from, but they are changing how my PC is working. The speed of the PC hasn't slowed down significantly. However, when I'm browsing the web things load, but it lags a lot and I sometimes hear random talking coming through my headphones (not ads, from computer). Also, when I do searches on Google on Firefox, it redirects me to links with advertisements. I usually have to go back and click the link again. It usually goes to the advertisement, first, however. This isn't happening in IE for some reason.

I have done a quick scan/complete scan on Kaspersky Anti Virus 2010 and disinfected all problems. I have also ran a Malwarebyte's scan and disinfected all threats on that. The symptoms, however, still remain and I have noticed that the speed of my PC is starting to slow down even more.

Dear BleepingComputer folk,

My laptop is running Firefox 40.0.3 under Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

The Problem

Two nights ago my browser (then Firefox 40.0.2) started opening some webpages extremely slowly, simply refusing to open others and producing a "This document has been moved here" message for others (see below screenshot - the link would appear to go to whatever I searched for, but I never clicked it).

These various problems were affecting familiar websites that I have bookmarked and regularly open, such as Facebook.  This seemed to be in some way related to the cache, as it was not affecting new URLs that I had not visited previously during that browsing session.

In addition, when using Google Toolbar (but not https://www.google.co.uk/ , which appeared fully functional) to search for anything I would receive the same: "This document has been moved here", but with an additional "302 Moved" message.

SCREENSHOT #2 - result of attempt to search for http://www.facebook.com/ via Google Toolbar:

Attempting to access attachments in gmail also produced a similar message (I don't have a screenshot of this, but I believe the message there again differed slightly, saying that the document was "temporarily" moved).  This is what I encoun... Read more

I replaced my old antivirus (AVG) with Bitdefender today, and no sooner had I started the program than it threw up a virus alert, saying it had detected and deleted a virus - Trojan.PWS.Agent.SHZ. As soon as it told me that, it did it again - and again, and again, and again. The infected file seems to be "xocgme.sst" in the Windows folder, but it constantly replaces itself as soon as it's deleted, whether by me or Bitdefender, adding an "x" to the end of the file name each time. I can't find much about this trojan on the Internet (unless I'm not looking properly), and Bitdefender's constant alerting and deleting is slowly the computer down dreadfully. What can I do to get rid of this trojan for good?

At first it started as pop-up internet explorer windows while browsing in Firefox and re-directs in Google when I clicked on a link (however I can copy the link from a google search and paste it in a new window). Then whatever I have seemed to disable my internet connection after a couple of minutes (almost like it new I was trying to figure out how to get rid of it!). I have done some work at trying to remove the problem and it seems like everything is better EXCEPT that Google keeps redirecting - so I know not everything has been cleaned! I have a spotty and slow wireless connection for this computer so I would rather not use an online scanner if I don't have to but I will do what it takes if that is the case.

Don't know if anyone can help, but hope someone can offer suggestion.

I have a website and the index page has a 'drop-down' menu (for various pages on the site) where visitors can click and go to other pages on the site.

When I view the INDEX page in IE6, the 'drop-down' menu appears in the center of the page, where we want it to appear.

However, when we view the INDEX page in Firefox, the 'drop-down' menu appears on the left side of the page.

Would anyone know what we might have to do (correct) to make the 'drop-down' menu on the INDEX page appear in the center of page when viewed on Firefox?

Here is the beginning part of the HTML for the 'drop-down' menu:

<P ALIGN=CENTER>
<SCRIPT language=JavaScript>
function formHandler(){
var URL = document.form.mysites.options
[document.form.mysites.selectedIndex].value;
parent.location.href = URL;
}
</SCRIPT>
<P align=center>
<FORM name=form><SELECT onchange=formHandler() size=1 name=mysites> <OPTION value="" selected>My Pages 2-28

<OPTION value=http://www.XXXXX.com/XXXXX/Page3.html>Page 3
etc.......

We need to see the site to work out problems such as these.

At a glance of the snippet of code you have provided, I would guess its to do with firefox's defualt values compared to IE. Using <p> tags for a layout element such as a menu isn't a great idea.

If you show us the site I can do some tests and try to find the problem.

I see this on my XP laptop from time to time. The scrollbars jiggle around and won't stay still, making it annoying to try to read a page that is going up and down. It eventually settles down after awhile.

Is this definitely a symptom of infection? I scan the hell out of this thing. I have McAfee anti-virus and anti-spyware on it fully updated and scanning 3 times a week, and also scan using BitDefender and TrendMicro online scans now and again (each once within past 2 wks). And further, I also scan from time to time using updated Ad-Aware, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, SpywareDoctor.

Is the occassional jigglyness normal? Does it happen on clean machines? If so, I won't worry. For the moment, I worry a bit.

Any info very appreciated.

Thanks

A:Jiggly scrollbars in IE and Firefox -- a symptom or not?[Moved from Gen Sec]

Hi

Is it the scrollbars or is it your mouse? I'm not immediately aware of an infection that will cause those symptoms, but it's still a possibility. However, I would check things like your OS - is it patched up to date, are all your hardware drivers up to date, any errors showing up in Event Viewer, that kind of thing.

A:IE7 freezes on loading yahoo.com, but not firefox [Moved from IE]

Well I went into safe mode and loaded the site up just fine, then in IE7-it just finally loaded up.(that was a couple days ago).
But now sometimes I'll find a few random sites where it freezes up in IE7 and when I go into safe mode and load it up, it seems to fix it in Normal mode.

PC World.com, also gave me that. And a link inside PC world, did the same thing. Then I went into Safe mode again, then normal mode again and that loaded, from being froze too.

Thing is I keep finding sites where it will freeze on me, but I've been using my parents IE7 as well on those same site and their browser never froze once, and this computer has been infected before once (their computer), but my computer is CLEAN. I even have uniblue registry booster to scan my computer as well (note that I put this on after having these IE7 problems).

I have also reformatted my hard drive, just 12 hours after my first post, but this problem came back. I'm really clueless as to what's going on, or if I happen to have a very stealthy virus (have 2 anti-viruses, 1 anti-spyware program running on my computer all the time). Help Me!

Hi
In response to Dan's (dtae) posting entitled "sponsored links" on left in Firefox" I too have just got this infuriating problem.
The sponsored links on the left are not solely Google related nor it would seem solely Firefox related!!!
In Firefox the left links are present in a Google or Yahoo search.
They are not present when using IE or Safari.
However, they are also NOT present in Firefox when using the Google related search 'Locate Me'.
I have also run 'CustomizeGoogle' in Firefox and this does not touch these particular links.
I have run various malware scans and nothing has been thrown up. Nor has my constantly running PCGuard found anything!
I will keep an eye on Dan's posting and hope the above info will help.

Last night a balloon popped up stating that the pc was infected (the balloon came from the security sheild in the quick lanch tray). I knew this was fake so I didn't click on. Still a bunch of problems occured. The desk top changed into a warning that I needed to get virus protection. That went away after restarting. However now I cannot get symantec to start. Firefox crashes as soon as I click on it. I am forced to use explorer. Google has been hijacked. The links redirect to nuisance sites. The only thing protecting the pc right now is spybot. I am running windows xp.

I set up Firefox Sync Bookmarks on my PC where and how do I get my Bookmarks which are being synced and saved ?

A:Firefox Sync Bookmarks? (Moved from Windows 10 forum)

The purpose of the Firefox sync feature is to allow another device (PC - Phone - etc) that has Firefox installed the ability to sync the bookmarks, history etc to itself. For example. I have a Desktop PC, A laptop PC and a Android Smart Phone. Each of these devices have FireFox installed. Each of the devices are sync'd together. So if I save a bookmark on my PC, I can then use Firefox on my Smart phone and the bookmark will appear there and can be used by FireFox.

Its not really a backup. It just makes what ever your syncing available on all devices that use FireFox.

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.Please download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.alternate download linkNote: The file will be randomly named (i.e. 5mkuvc4z.exe).Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on the randomly named file to open the program and click Start. Ok bys,

I am writing back to tell you ALL your solutions DID NOT work. I had even switched to firefox. SHould I try F8 and recover what was 'windows at an earlier time'? IN FACT: From our last discussion about the favorite tab in Interent explorer being unreadable and corrupted message popping up.....

When I click on the destop or in the start menu on icon of fire fox, I NOW get the same message except different location in the files...now its not only my favorites for internet explorer but App data location and I cant download Adobe 10 which is at the end of the file path indicated or for that matter download any other new program that may help my computer. After this message pops up about not Adope 10 in the App data being dorrupted and unreadable- firefox WILL open but why are these corrupted unreadable messages poppoing up in links connected my net? HELP, could this be a virus? and why wont my scan suggested by TROLL complete to 100%?PLEASE ANS. ALL ABOVE QUESTIONS AND HOPEFULLY FIND ME A SOLUTION-GETTING WORRIED:(

Hello i am new here and i figured i might as well get your guys help Ive been coming here for quite some time just never had a serious enough problem to post.

Here's what i'm finding.

\\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\MSIV(random letters).dll

c:\windows\system32\SvChost.exe(832)

Now i have searched and i noticed others with this Trojan, i couldn't however see the replies from anyone and i did try and read through all of then thoroughly before posting. I have Malewarebytes, and i have hijackthis. Neither of them are allowed to run whenever i try. Whatever this nasty little bug is doing it disabled my resident shield through avg as well. I am using AVG Free version 8.5.339 with definition update 270.12.76/2183. It will not heal/remove the infections of course. I tried rebooting into an older HD i have that i know works fine and it wouldn't do that either it states that the windows\system32\system file was corrupt or missing, i tried repairing through the repair console but i'm not very learned on that stuff. i do have a some what good back ground in tech and can normally fix my own stuff this one is hurting my head though and any help would be greatly appreciated. as i stated before avg will not remove it and malewarebyte/hijack will not actually run. I will gladly provide any additional info you would need.

Thank you. i hope i can get this stupid crap gone.

Norton Antivirus 2006 (fully up to date) has blocked it a bunch of times, and I have already tried to use Symantecs Vundofix removal tool which tells me to enter the paths recommended in the forum (hence here I am!) I have restarted in safe mode (XP restore off) and done spy sweeps, virus scans and adware scans using adaware, norton antivirus and spybot search and destroy.

I am running win XP pro ver.2002, SP2.

I am running Windows XP - sp3 with Norton 2009.

I had Packed.Generic.233, Downloader, Trojan Backdoor viruses. Currently, Google or Yahoo will rediect links. After a few passes my Norton Antivirus, it seemed to clean some viruses...now full scan shows no threats. However, I still have viruses and after reading posts here, I tried to solve this myself. When I try to run scanners, including Hijackthis, it appears to run for a second, and then disappears. If I try to run the program again...it says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." message. This happened with internet explorer as well. I had to install firefox to access the web. Finally, although Norton does not find any threats during a scan, once in a while it detects and blocks backdooor.trojan.

Please help. Since I can't run the scanners...I need expert guidance...

Thanks in advance.

After reading a similar thread with the same problem, I think I may have to format and start from scratch. I have a secondary hard drive where I backup datafiles. I fear that I've been compromised beyone repair.

If I redo my C drive, is it safe to assume my secondary drive is clean, since it only contains data?

Symantec Auto-Protect is reporting a trojan has been detected but the system scan turns up nothing. The files it is finding are created in the \\windows\temp directory. But when you go to find the files, the files have already been removed. The files appear with a random name with .qef extension. The files started out being named 4A3xxxxx.qef but are now 4Axxxxxx.qef. So although the 4A portion is consistant, I think that's only by luck. It appears the Trojan needs the presence of an internet. When the network cable is disconnected, the Trojan does not appear.

I have tried Symantec, AVG, super anti-spyware, ad-aware, spybot, windows defender. I have updated definitions and gotten the latest and greatest and none of them have found this Trojan.

After further investigation, I started disabling services since I've read that some Trojans can attach themself to a service. I have discovered the Trojan only appears when the Symantec auto-protect service (rtvscan.exe) is running.

I would attach a DDS report, but I've already tried posting 4 times with it and it does not let me.

I have searched the registry for anything that might be attached to the rtvscan.exe and foudn nothing out of the ordinary.

Any thoughts? Has anyone seen this before? Any recommendations?

Hello, recently I had downloaded a 'fake' unlocker tool (the thing that can delete locked files, etc), which had a virus in it. I had taken several measures to rmeove it (malwarebytes antimalware, avg 8.5, avira antivirus, zonealarm firewall, spybot search & destroy, etc). Antimalware picked up 3 of them, 2 of them in my system restore, and another in my recycling bin (I had trashed the installer, so it was still there), after quarantining and deleting them all, and turning off my system restore everything was regular, until it acted laggy ONCE AGAIN.
I rescanned using every program I had before, I looked at every single file on my PC, everywhere I can, but the slow internet continues.

Can anyone help? I have hijack logs if you need them, and logs from when I deleted the virus on malware bytes antimalware if you need those
