[Competition] Most expensive PC

Q: [Competition] Most expensive PC

This one is just for fun XD

Try to build the most expensive PC using PCPartPicker

Rules: None

Preferred Solution: [Competition] Most expensive PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Macbook Pro is from mid 2015 and it's already struggling with things big time and, as Black Friday is fast approaching, I am thinking to upgrade.A few of my friends asked if I would consider windows, and said how much cheaper they are, and I am having second thoughts. Here are the 3, I am considering:Macbook Pro 15" - i9,32GB RAM, ProVega20, 1TB SSD - 3,834Lenovo ThinkPad Extreme Gen 2 - i9, 32GB RAM, Nvidia 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen + Wifi 6 support - 3,096HP Spectre x360 - i7, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen, Wifi 6 support - 1,799I am going through a lot of courses now, learning video and graphic editing as well as doing a fair bit of LIVE streaming and will be using some device for NOTE TAKING (OneNote). When I had a little play with Lenovo's touch screen on a laptop, I expected it to be poor, but it was actually good!An Ipad Pro 11inch is ANOTHER 1,100 on top of a Macbook. So a top spec Macbook Pro + Ipad Pro would cost me nearly 5,000, what seems absolutely INSANE. No touch screen of WIFI 6 on MACs, that seems just crazy to me in this day and age.The only reason why I am even considering is because I also have an iWatch & iPhone XR. I don't quite know if I could even control devices and do "screen mirroring" and "Clipboard" between an iphone and a windows laptop or TVs.Is there anything "pro macs" that I am missing here? What would you do??

I have no idea who this guy is and quite frankly he doesn't seem all that bright, but he did throw a bunch of malicious links at 3 top free AV products and the results were very interesting.

First thing I notice is that he is using XP, whatever ramifications of that are.

Second, he is using the default settings. Again, that is worth considering

Hi there,

I'm building a new system. Ive found an 8800gtx on scans website, it appears to be branded scanfx. The say "A Big Brand name card we're not allowed to mention. We guarantee 101% Satisfaction."

How good is this 8800gtx in comparison to say, an xfx or gigabyte model for example?

The only noticable differences are that it runs at 575mhz, whereas some of the other (more expensive) cards may run at 600mhz.

This card is under 300, which is amazing. Whereas some are over 400.. what do you reckon?

If you do not yet have a Gmail account, then tomorrow there will be a chance for you to get one.

At 5pm BST, there will be a competition consisting of 10 questions, available from http://gmailcomp.webdesign.purplecloud.net, or http://webdesign.purplecloud.net.

The competition will consist of 10 questions, with the first two people getting 100% correct to get a Gmail invitation each.

You can be reminded when the competition is going to start - simply go to one of the url's and enter your email in the box shown.

Just thought this would be a better way of giving away email accounts rather than selling them or whatever.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? Brand new, less than a month
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Same.

It crashes at random times... Sometimes it goes a whole day without crashing.
Other times it crashes minutes after start up.

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. I have been using 360 Security for over a year now with no problems but I am now having to do lots of online banking and am not sure if I have enough protection with 360.
I have a trial version of ESET Smart Security Premium installed which has dedicated banking and payment protection.
I have noticed that other software such as Kaspersky, BitDefender,Comodo,F-Secure all have similar elements. Do these additional features actually give more protection ? An IT consultant friend says that these features are mainly 'cosmetic' . Is this so ?

Just out of interest I thought I would ask this as my 1.4Ghz Athlon at 1.5Ghz with a Y-Tech 4000 rpm fan is reasonably loud. I wouldn't like to consider the noise necessary to overclock a chip from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz with air cooling (600Mhz!!). I used to have Delta Fan on my SK6 heatsink but it was unbearable and I seem to get loaded temps of about 40 degrees celcius with the lower specification fan so I am ok with my 100Mhz overclock (via 133 fsb -> 143 fsb, A7M266 doesn't have multiplier dip switches or bios settings).

One reason I have always considered Intel CPU as an alternative to my beloved AMD chip is the ability to run cooler and therefore require a less deafening HSF.

So does anyone currently have a P4 overclocked significantly (Particularly the "a" northwoods) and can provide any information about the cooling that they need?

A:3DS Competition prize: P4 1.6a running at 2.2Ghz. With what cooling?

Most of the posts I've seen, pple are using air cooling with even the stock HSF!!! This isn't really surprising since the Northwood core is capable in running up to speeds of >2.2Ghz

This is something that regularly seems to happen, yesterday for the second time.  The first time it disappeared just by a "SuperAntispyware Free" scan, but this time it didn't go away with this program.  I found Combofix.exe on the internet, but only now read you shouldn't use this without suppervision.  The installation went without problems and it run for about one hour, without change in the popup.  I closed the program without problems again, but as the redirect on my site hasn't disppeared (Combofix wasn't finished yet), I come to this forum for further help.
In case I really need a scan with Combofix, please can somebody tell me what to do further?  The problem is thus that the program doesn't show any progress after the blue popup telling it is scanning the computer system and that it can take 10 minutes or the double in case of heavy infections.  I thought an hour is too much and then, the program seemed never to finish .
Please is Combofix the best program to get the redirect removed or do I need to use something else?
What I further to know is if you can avoid these redirects by protecting your site with Norton or another antivirus?
And at last, doesn't the inbuilt antivirus of a browser (when it is 'on') not protect against redirects?

A:One of my urls is redirected to several games and competition websites

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I've just installed XP on a small form factor Aspire X1200 media desktop system and it has absolutely cleared up all the tics and traits that could have been hardware or software related so I'm jazzed about that (its not a lemon after all!).

The last test was Firewire write speed over a network. I have two X1200s and the other one has 7RC installed and I use TeraCopy to take my speed measures from. The Firewire connection is built in and it's a small 4-pin type to 6-pin at the external drive. Identical Firewire drives on both systems (750 gig LaCie).

The write speed to the drive on the 7RC ranges from 4.5 to 5.7 MB/s. The write speed to the firewire drive on this system, when it was under Vista's control was 4.8 to 5.2 MB/s consistently. Both would always seem to start a little faster, like in the 14-17 MB/s range but by the end, that was the average.

Now, XP write speed to the same firewire drive from a USB drive over the network was 26 MB/s (about 31 gigs in just over 20 minutes if that works out correctly). The write speed from yet another firewire drive over the network was 32 MB/s.

I had thought, well maybe the 4pin to 6pin cable was a bottleneck or something but such does not seem to be the case now. Choice of OS seems to be the bottleneck. It would be interesting if anyone had similar results or differing results, and maybe find out what, if anything can be done to get the speed up on 7RC. Doesn't bo... Read more

Is it becuase of the SLI capability?

They shouldent charge a premium for that since it requires no additional manufacturing or additions to the GPU itself.

So what gives???

A:Why are PCI-E GPU's more expensive than their....

PCI-e is faster then AGP although it is only in theory right now. Some PCI-e cards also do not need a molex connector for the PCI-e port can provide more power then AGP. & of course as in any computer part, the newer technologies are more expensive then old(er) ones.

Hello all,

PCs are getting cheaper by the day. So my question is, how much did you pay for yours?

Mine was pretty cheap, and it's still as top of the line as you'd expect these days.

I have receipts from all this stuff, so these are definitely accurate:

Athlon XP 2100+ - $83
ASUS A7V8x (KT400) - $115
512MB KingMAX 400MHz DDR - $140
Thermaltake Volcano 9 - $28
Gigabyte Maya (ATi Radeon 8500 Pro) - $100
21" NEC MultiSync P1150 - $150 (refurb.)
SB Audigy MP3+ - $54
120GB Western Digital Special Edition (8MB cache) - $154
10GB Western Digital Caviar - free
AOpen 4x DVD-ROM - free
Lite-On 40x/12x/48x CD-RW - $55
Thermaltake XaserII 5000A - $130
350W Enermax Whisper PSU - $47
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro - $39
Optical Logitech Rodent - $20
Joystick - $15
Nostromo n50 - $25
FDD - $9

$1164 total, with peripherals. I've bought all this stuff over time, and it's all added up...:dead: About half that came out of my own pocket. The old HDD and the old DVD drive were really expensive when my dad bought them - I dunno how much he spent though. He gave both to me after he upgraded. This is without speakers.

Speakers were:
500W Kenwood receiver - $150
KLH center speaker - $55
KLH front speakers - $36
Pioneer floorstanders - free

$241 total

System w/ speakers - $1405

Man that's alot.

A:How Expensive Was Your PC?

Athlon XP 2000+ - $165
Epox 8K3A+ - $90
512MB Mushkin PC2100 - $92

2x80GB Seagate ST380021A 7200rpm - $109 each
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM - $51
Lite-On 16x/10x/40x CD-RW - $150
X-PCBOX ver. 1(off ebay) - $27
Netgear FA311 NIC - $15
431W Enermax EG465P-VE PSU - $92
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite - $19
Logitech Dual Optical - $25
Mitsumi FDD - $Free
Blue round hdd cable set - $15

Total = $1369(wanted it to be under $1000 but got carried away)

All these parts have been bought during the past 8 months till up to last week when I bought the audigy card. Most was bought off ebay and the others were from online retailers. All was paid for by me :dead:

I tried for top of the line, it can do 10,500 3dmarks so I'm happy.

I also have two brand new motherboards and a PSU that are just sitting on my desk because of compatibility issues. The company I bought my case from couldn't have made a profit, it even came with a hot swappable HDD drive bay! My monitor died last night and its off waranty so its at a local repair shop now. Might just go to ebay and buy another one for $130 if the repair is more expensive.

But I've seen your posts now on several threads and they seem to have but one purpose - to instigate. We call this "trolling". Do you have anything useful to say, or a legitimate question to ask? I am going to upgrade a HTPC, and I was wondering what the least expensive CPU that can handle HD video playback without GPU acceleration is. Currently the system has a 2.6 Ghz socket 478 celeron CPU and 1 Gb ram.

The computer needs to be able to handle Netflix Instant Watch, Hulu, Youtube, and other streaming at high resolution, as well as play DVD's (no blu-ray). The socket type of the cpu is irrelevant, as the motherboard will be upgraded as well.

As it is now, the computer can handle DVD's okay, netflix with some lag (the sound also is out of sync), YouTube at low resolutions, and Hulu is a slideshow.

The choices really come down to a bottom of the line Sempron, a socket 775 celeron dual core, or an embedded platform, such as a dual core Atom.

Thanks for any help!

A:Least expensive CPU for HD video

I've seen Acer single core Atom's handle HD, so I don't honestly feel the CPU will be much of a problem.

I'd pop for a cheap dual core Celeron CPU. Here is one for under $54. Not bad considering, and I'm sure it will handle HD fine, when combined with the right GPU.

I'd be interested to hear what others have to say as well though, as I'm considering a HTPC build myself.

Hello there!

I have been looking around in shops and online retailers for RAM, to be specific,x4 1 GB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 4-4-4-12. Now I have been on crucial.com and they gave me a estimate of 469.98 [$923.08]!!!! That is ridiculously expensive for RAM . I know I am after 4 GB but surely there must be a cheaper solution.

My question is this, I have been looking at the good brands, Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, etc, and I have also been looking at the shops or etailers value for money RAM, should I go for one of these good brands? Or would a value for money RAM do the trick just as good? Also, if you may have any suggestions for which brand I should go for just let me know! I am looking for the most cheapest, however decent (if not best) performance quality.

Please note I need the 4GB for my new system which I am currently building, I need 2 GB of RAM to run Vista and another 2 GB to run apps/games.

I?m trying to build a relatively inexpensive gaming rig for about $600 or so (I already have a few parts, that?s why that number is so low). I?m not including an OS in that price. I would ideally like to be able to play games along the lines of Half Life 2 and Oblivion - but not necessarily with all the bells and whistles like AA and AF, et cetera. Any suggestions regarding the parts or whether the entire system is compatible would be deeply appreciated!

Here?s what I have for pieces so far:

Case + PSU: Antec Sonata II (with 450 PSU).
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
Monitor: 20? Olevia LCD
Have cheapo speakers. Decent keyboard and mouse. Have a card/floppy drive reader. DVD drive.

This is what I?m thinking of buying, for about $550 (-$40 MIR):

Motherboard: ABIT KN9 ULTRA Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127008, currently for 76.99

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103747, currently for $183

Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145568, currently for $106

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814143070, currently for $184.99 - $40 MIR = $149.99 (eventually)

A:Building a not too expensive computer

You actualy have the perfect budget for a AM2 gaming system

Endprice is about $600-700 depending if you want to add or change the system specs ( I would change the videocard to a 7800-7900 from nVidia and getting a 700w PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341002 )

If you followed the guide and got all the stuff and only changed the PSU & videocard to the ones I listed your end price would be about $800 which isnt too far from your budget and would give you triple the performance of any Dell / Alienware ( if you compare it to those crap systems :haha: )

Hope I helped

Hi I built my desktop about 5 months ago and it is going great, to save a bit of money I bought cheap RAM 2x4GB for about 20 because it had good reviews. It''s DDR3 1333MHz, not sure about the timings was not in description nor on box. I just made a 2GB RAM disk with DataRAM and did a benchmark with Atto. The results were very mixed (see attached).

I was wondering if this was normal or is it because of the cheap RAM and I was wondering if some other people could do the same tests as me. Making a 2GB RAM disk (FAT32) with DataRAM and benchmarking it with a free version of Atto.

Hey, Guys. I have noticed that whenever you go to a site that sells memory, and they have a 'Memory configurator' that has you enter your MB or system, it ALWAYS comes back recommending their most expensive memory modules. Now, I don't doubt that you need the best memory possible if you are doing extensive graphics or video work. But, for an old (06 or so) HP Compaq Presario V2000 laptop that will mostly be used for surfing the net, viewing some youtube videos and writing some CDs, wouldn't somewhat cheaper memory suffice? It uses DDR PC2700 Non ECC. The poor laptop was given to me recently and it runs like a turtle right now...all it needs is memory. The computer is in excellent condition and looks new. WinXP Pro shows something like 380 megs of memory. (I assume the two memory sticks it now has are 256megs apiece) I'm going to install 2Gs, but the price runs from about $7.00/G to $28.00/G. I would prefer not have to spend $50.00 on this memory if I don't need to. I would like to go with a mid price range.
What do you think?

By the way, I will be staying with WinXP Pro (and/or Linux) on this machine even after support ends next year. I am sure the only thing I could upgrade to on this is Vista, and I don't like it.

Now I know there are folk on the forum that will be shouting "NEVER BUY FROM EBAY".
The problem is I purchased a brand new OEM Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and it did not come with the I/O shield backplate.
I see in the US there are websites that will sell all the motherboard parts seperately but they won't export to the UK.
I have contacted Asus UK and I am still waiting.
Does anyone now of any Uk sites that sell Asus parts, otherwise I might have to resell this to some other unsuspecting person

A:Ebay, maybe an expensive lesson

I've finally decided to go down the road of getting certified, and looking at starting obviously with with A+ certification. So..um.. wow the prices! I can't believe it's that much just to take a damn test! Actually, for the A+ there's two exams, it's close to $400! Naturally, I'm looking for a place or way to get a voucher a cheaper, but I don't want to get scammed. Does anyone have any experience that could help in this matter?

A:Less Expensive A+ Voucher Prices?

Check for free developer seminars by microsoft in your area.
They usually give out free vouchers for stuff like that.
There may be other listing pages.
Might do a web search.

I'm looking for a plain and simple, but powerful and stable router.

This is the situation - I have an old crappy eMachines which I'll let my dad use to read news and stuff (and email and all that stuff that doesn't require power), and I'll use my new powerful (self-built) pc for games.

Now the thing is, I want it to be stable AND powerful. Reading news doesn't really need that, but I want to be able to game (FEAR and other FPS games that require high-speed internet).

What I mean is that I do NOT want ANY disconnections whatsoever. ANY.

See, the reason is that when I am playing some game (or programming, that is my other hobby - plan on being a professional game programmer in a 5-10 years [when I'll be 18-23]) my dad or mom decides that they want to check their email and I have to stop the game for nothing...

Note that I need a very STABLE but feature-less router. I only need to connect 2 computers to it, and DO NOT need ANY other features other than well.... routing. That is, no complex software or ports and anything like that. 4 or less ports is GREAT!

A:A GOOD router, but not TOO EXPENSIVE?

Dear folks of 7forums,

I just bought a very expensive Asus gaming laptop (1400 quids).

What should I install? How should I start?

I still haven't opened it yet and my dorm room is messy/table is unclean and dusty, so I thought I would clean around first.

But software-wise what are the standard things to put in a brand new laptop?

Many thanksgg

A:New Very Expensive Laptop: how to start?

Just don't install the crapwares such as Reg cleaners and tuneup software
I suggest basic programs Ccleaner, Defraggler and 7-Zip
Use MSE as your antivirus

Hey techies i was thinking about buying a Dell Inspiron 530s desktop, changing some of the hardware (graphics card, power supply, possibly sound card) and putting it into a new case with some LEDs and neon strips (hey, if I'm paying that much, at least i want it to look cool!) (Not like it's really that expensive the PC is 349$ but I'm only 13.

But to get the matching screen (17") it's like 549$, so I'm thinking why do i need to pay that much for a screen? I wanted to know if there were any good (not super hi-tech macho but descent) flatscreen or almost-flatescreen (not a whole 12 inches behind it) monitor that i could buy?? I'm thinking anywhere from 80-140$ I don't know if those system specs are that important, but here's the website for the system:

thanks to all who reply PS can anyone recommend a site with some nice speakers that are actually colored/LED or something cool but not too outrageos. I'm just tired of seeing light gray and black speakers on every site i look at!

A:Finding an In-expensive Flatscreen

Hello fellow DCF.
1.you're better getting the monitor in the package offered.
2.you do realize the 530s is a slimline desktop model that upgrading options are very limited if not impossible for what you're thinking of doing to save a few bucks. For example what kind of video card are you going to put in it? A low-profile, half-height card is all you can use. Also with slimline desktops what kind of psu are you thinking of since for the most part you're stuck with what you got. Transferring to a new case is not really a good idea, the regular 530 is more suited. Or go to the outlet and pick-up a 520 (cheaper).

Hi team.
Just had a workstation made for me by a tech company
i7 3630K
quadro 4000
32 GB ram
x79 gigabyte MOBO
seasonic +80 platinum power supply
lanboy air case

The guys claim they had done research and built a top spec machine for my work needs (3ds max)

this machine is meant to be built specifically for 3ds max, for comparison I was running max on a macbook pro 2.7 ghtz quad core 8GB ram(bootcamp win 7). I am having this machine freeze up on me regularly (I have only had it for 2 days) and need to be hard restarted.

It is now giving me error messages when restarting and trying and failing to repair itself.

Also I cannot seem to get any good performance out of it for 3ds max. i get CUDA errors when trying to use iray and the graphics card does not seem to be getting used for rendering. ( I am using 3ds max performance driver)

on conparison with the laptop for scanline rendering 100 frames the difference is 645 seconds (workstation) vs 720 seconds (laptop) which does not seem to make much of a strong case for the expensive outlay.
Mental ray and quicksilver are painfully slow and as i said iray wont work I get CUDA errors.

Anytime I try to push the machine (in photoshop or 3ds max or whatever) it locks up and needs a hard restart. how much damage am I doing to it by doing this?
Thanks for any help,
i am feeling very stupid, angry and suicidal over this situation
thanks for any help

A:please help new workstation is an expensive disaster!

You could be causing errors on the hard drive (bad Sectors) by hard restarting.

Go into bios and look at the temps, and voltage readings. I see you also have 32GB of RAM why so much? 8GB should service.

I would like to know why the SEAGATE ST39173N is soo expensive?
i know scsi's are fast but 9 gb ? I've seen 40gb for way less then this 1
I see them go on ebay for $300.00

just a question for you scsi ppl out there.

A:SEAGATE ST39173N 9.1GB BARRACUDA expensive?

I can't imagine why anyone would pay even $100 for the SEAGATE ST39173N, it's an ancient drive that isn't up to modern standards or speed. It's an 8 bit single-ended SCSI interface that's loads slower than current IDE drives. From the prices I see on the web, I can only guess that some old servers, perhaps Sun machines, use them and they need them for compatibility. Unless you have a SPECIFIC reason for wanting that exact drive, it's nothing you should be interested in.

As the title says, why the heck are DDR2 sticks for Intel motherboards so expensive? I mean, you could find a 2GB stick for about $8 but if you search for a 4GB stick the price spikes up to $50 or more. I'm asking this question because I'm looking to revive this old HP a6000 to use as my daily driver because my main computer is broken but if I want to revive it I would need 8GB or at least 6GB of RAM to do work on, because I'm a very heavy multitasker, but I can't due to the price.

Also one other thing I've noticed is that there are "AMD" sticks and "Intel" sticks and the price difference is huge between those two. I always thought RAM would compatible with any motherboard as long as it is the right DDR and the right form factor. Why is that?

I've been using network cards for years now. My take on them is that they are in the same classification as modems. Both are networking devices of a sort. There are network cards one can get for less than $5 each when purchased in quantities of ten; and then there are the ones (like 3com, for instance) that cost ten times that much or even more.

My questions are:
Is there a difference in reliability?
Is there a difference in the accuracy of transferred data?
Is there a difference in durability?
Some cheaper NICs have given me a bump or two in the setup process; but, I have no specific experience that I can point to that indicates any real difference after that.

A:Network Cards--Cheap vs. Expensive

From my experience, there really isn't much diferrence in performance. Haven't had one go bad on me yet after putting them in several machines over the years.

I generally tend to stick with Intel or 3Com cards, not because I think them more reliable. It's mainly because I know I'll never have to worry about finding drivers as most of the newer versions of Windows come with the drivers for these brands.

TB15 is a very expensive power supply
Just the configuration once more.
One Precision 5510, Two TB15 and two Screens U2713HM
I’m trying to get this working.
First of all my complains is, that the site is a mess
It is very difficult to find something back! (Perhaps I’m the only one or my IQ is to low)
Two places a=office, b=home
Place a) Drop out of internet, but no problem with the screen (most of the time)
Place b) Not drop of internet but I connect my screen directly on the 5510 (sometimes I can work with the screen but 90% not)
I install, I reboot, I install reboot etc. but still the same!!
The last is the update of the bios and the latest drive of the tb15 (8/07/16)
So what next?
A disappointed Dell User
