I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

Is there a way to find drives Bitlocked or are my drives being treated as bitlocked because of my antivirus program AVG?

I turned on Bitlocker on three new Windows 8.1 laptops and saved the 48-digit recovery keys and associated identifiers, but I forgot to indicate which laptops they are associated with. Is there any way to find the identifiers/recovery keys on my laptops so I can document this? Or do I have to decrypt the laptop drives, turn off Bitlocker, and start all over again to generate new identifiers/recovery keys? My only options under Manage Bitlocker are Suspend protection, Back up your recovery key, and Turn off BitLocker.

No worries. If you should ever need to unlock to drive, it'll provide you with a recovery key ID number that you can use to ID which recovery key to use. The tutorial below can give you more details about this to help get an idea if ever needed.

Initially I found that BitLocker on the Go supported removable media like flash drives and external drives. Why isn't a CD/DVD supported since it is considered removable media? Will this support be available in future releases?

A:Will BitLocker or BitLocker on the Go ever support CD/DVD encryption?

Hi,

Bitlocker to Go is not supported on CD/DVD. Your suggestion is valuable, I will forward this information to the appropriate department through our internal channel.
Both the Microsoft Product Team and Development Team will take into consideration all suggestions and feedback for future releases.

Currently, you may need third party software to encrypt CD/DVD.

I am trying to enable BitLocker on a Windows 7 Ultimate x32 system with TPM. I follow the Wizard and when asked to encrypt the drive I select 'Run BitLocker system check' and 'Continue' (see attached sreenshot).
The USB is inserted and contains the recovery key (.txt and .tpm). During reboot I get:

Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Information
The system boot information has changed since BitLocker was enabled.
You must supply a BitLocker recovery password to start this system.
Confirm that the boot changes to this system are authorized.
If the changes to the boot system are trusted, then disable and re-enable
BitLocker. This will reset BitLocker to use the new boot information.

Otherwise, restore the system boot information.

ENTER=Continue

Windows then continues to start normally. After login I get an error message: BitLocker could not be enabled (see attached screenshot).
When I check TMP it shows as active, initialized and owned.

I've started out from scratch several times - same results. I can't figure out what the problem is.
This is driving me nuts.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

I bought Windows XP Ultimate and setup my computer with Bitlocker, using a USB key for the encryption key.

After setting everything up and confirming it all works, I thought I would make a copy of this USB key. When I look at the USB stick using Windows Explorer or via a Dir command through a DOS prompt, I don't see any files on the USB stick.

Is this normal? Is there no way to make a copy of the stick, I would have thought I would have seen files on it.

Got one of my drives locked by bitlocker (don't ask me how, I updated to win 10, got problems and reverted back to win 8.1, and then it was locked without me ever activating it). The only option I got in my bitlock manager is to unlock drive, but when clicking
that link I get the message "There are no supported protectors on this drive. The drive can't be unlocked.", and I do not get any option to enter any sort of key or password.
Anyway, found a recovery key on onenote and tried to unlock from command prompt in admin mode with "manage-bde -unlock D: -RecoveryKey <myverylongkey>", and got the result "ERROR: An error occurred while attempting to read the key from
disk.

So I assume the key has to be on a file to be able to use the command prompt to unlock it. How do I get the onenote key to disk? Why did Bitlocker turn on on my computer? Why do I not get the option to enter recoverykey from the Bitlock manager? And will
it work to unlock it if I get the key to a file?

This pertains to a particular HP PC - HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini 35W.
It is running windows 10 Pro. BitLocker is enabled. Sporadically a few of the workstations show the blue screen asking for a BitLocker Key. The key is entered and later it happens again. Numerous support calls to HP have failed and was told they don't support
BitLocker for Windows 10.
One thing I have noticed is that if I hit ESC at the BitLocker screen, It comes back with an option to skip this drive. I select Skip this Drive and then I get the option to Continue to Windows 10, Troubleshoot or Turn off your PC. I select Continue to Windows
10 and it starts the OS and I am able to sign into the network fine. I do a couple of reboots with no problem. Then later it comes back again.
I have updated the software, BIOS and TPM chip. I have also reset Windows 10 and re-configured it for our network which I thought worked for awhile but it did not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

I've been having a bit of trouble trying to get Bitlocker working on my Dad's laptop. He recently bought a new laptop with Win 7 pro and I upgraded it to Win 10. It all went smoothly except now when I'm trying to get Bitlocker to encrypt his drive.

It has an ssd but is partitioned already. As far as I can tell it doesn't have the TPM chip as it was a cheapy laptop but I have managed to enable it through GP but when I try to run it I get the message in the screenshot below and I can't seem to find much info on it. Some suggest it's to do with partitions and I also ran the BdeHdcfg command to no avail.

Any help to get this encrypted for him would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I basically had too many partitions on the one drive which it didn't like but wasn't very informative when telling me so so I had to guess and made a shot in the dark to delete a partition and after that it actually worked.

Thanks anyway,

My limited experience with failed BitLocker operations is that I had to use the DiskPart CLEAN command to get to where I could even access the drive that failed.

When you get ready to use Bitlocker, disconnect from the internet then turn off your anti-virus, anti-anything software. Close all programs. Now use BitLocker.

Navigate to this registry key and see if it looks like mine and that you have permissions to the key. Also see if the following values are the same in the right pane if not modify them to be so...

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D9EF8727-CAC2-4e60-809E-86F80A666C91}

Go also into your services and see if Bitlocker is set to manual. I know your frustration acronis isn't very soft on the system sort of speak.

hello.

We very large office with 300 users, recently

When
working with a TPM + Pin code, if you're wrong 33 times in the pin code of the TPM is locked and I have to do recovery with key password long, errors are cumulative, which is problematic for us , because most of the users on the ground and we can not give

1. Do you know of locking the TPM 33 times, and whether it can be released or otherwise reset it without
user intervention. (Is it related to the manufacturer?)

2. The second solution came in organizing this work only in a pin code, the question is how it is secure, and where the keys are kept?

I can't see how, in the case of having a laptop stolen, bitlocker would protect my data.

If the laptop has a TPM chip, the encryption is tied to the TPM chip.. If the laptop is stolen, then the thief has access to the data on it because it would enable windows to load..

So, what is the point? I want to use drive encryption that relies on user input to put the key in. Not a usb/SD card, because they can be lost, but a password or a fingerprint. Is there any way to do this with bitlocker?

If not, what could I use to encrypt the drive, and require a password or fingerprint on startup? I have a thinkpad T530, and it has the ability to use a finger print to boot the machine, use it as a bios/power on/disk password, and a windows password.

What I would want to do, ideally, is one finger for boot/power on/disk password, and another for encryption.

Thanks

A:What does bitlocker do for me?

1 you can add a pin or a password with the tmp chip.

2 if they can't log on to your account they can't see the data.

Bitlockers main use is to protect the drive if its removed from the computer to access the data.

You can also look into truecrypt full disk encryption

I was going to use BitLocker on my Surface Pro and tried to save it to the first option on the list - "Save to your Cloud Domain account". Now here's where the fun starts. The Surface is my own and I'm logged into it with a Microsoft account. I
also have a business Office 365 account. Naturally that's accessed via this machine as well. I also have a work account from my current client (I'm a contractor). So now I go looking for the BitLocker Key. I'm not stupid and have saved a copy to a USB stick
and haven't yet encrypted the drive (I'm about to), but on my Mictosoft account it tells me there are no BitLocker keys saved there. I logged in to my clients Azure account and checked for BitLocker keys but the only one there is for their laptop (needed to
access some of the corporate network and submit invoices/timesheets). Going in to my own Office365 account (and logging into the Azure stuff) there's nothing there either.

So just where is this key stored?

Where I work, we have 4 Lenovo X100e Mini laptops and we installed our copy of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. To my knowledge there has to be a TPM to use BitLocker with certain versions of Windows 7 in order for the key to be stored in Active Directory, like the rest of our regular laptops are.
My question is, can I enable and use Bitlocker in any way and still have the key stored in AD without a TPM? The laptops did not come with a TPM so is there an add-on?(I know it is a long shot for this question)
Also, what other good encryption software is out there that does not require a USB Flash Drive or security password to gain access to the hard drive?

Hi
I am considering using BitLocker and have a few questions:-

- when I create a backup image of my hard drive, will that be an image of the locked files i.e. will it also be safe or do I need to turn BitLocker on for that drive too?
- I have quite a large file size (175Gb on the hard drive), will that BitLocker take ages to run and will it slow down the computer once enabled?
- presumably BitLocker just requires me to enter a password each time I use the computer to access the locked files?

Many thanks.

A:BitLocker

Any backups you make of a Bitlocker-encrypted drive will not be encrypted. This includes using the Windows system image method or any third-party backup utility.

If you move data from a Bitlocker-encrypted drive it will lose its encryption.

When you reboot after setting up Bitlocker, the system drive will begin a lengthy encryption process, which will increase in time for larger drive volumes.

Bitlocker encrypts every single bit on a drive, so today's large hard drives will take a long time to complete the process.

As far as I'm aware, your system will take a performance hit after encryption so you need to weigh up which is more important to you: performance or security.

When you create your encrypted volume, you will be prompted to create a recovery key password, which you will need to access the drive.

If you intend encrypting more than one drive, make sure you encrypt your system volume first. When you restart your computer after you have done this, you will then be able to encrypt other volumes on your hard drive(s).

to completely locked up.  I have tried the reset procedure and that jut brings me back to the BitLocker screen.  What do I do netxt?

A:BitLocker

As you have found out bitlocker can make your computer inaccessible.  The only way you can access the computer is if you get a win 7 dvd from HP and format and install it all over again.  If you do not have a key you cannot access it/Wanikiya and Dyami--Team Zigzag

Hello, i have just finished building a TaskSequence in SCCM 2012 for de HP Elite X2 1012 G1 notebook. All is working except Bitlocker. All other laptops (HP 650 G1, G2 and Elite X2 1011 G1, etc) bitlocker does work.I receive an error with Active Directory not being setup correcty. Access Denied. This is normally due to de SELF object not able to write the TPM ownerinformation. But our AD has been setup for this a long time ago. And all other laptops etc bitlocker works fine. When i check the bios. all other laptops have an option for OS managament of bitlocker. The new HP Elite X2 1012 G1 however does not.How can i enable bitlocker and write the key to the Active Directory for this laptop?

A:bitlocker

It looks like that setting can be found on page 20 of the manual under the Secourity -> TPM Embedded Security -> TPM State menu. Here's the link to the manual with detailed settings for the BIOS: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04947557
