Q: Question about the T590's 4K Display, ...PWM?

Hi,I am wondering whether the Thinkpad T590's UHD 4K display makes use of PWM, accross all or any levels of brightness.I read that the FHD version had no PWM, so I'm hoping the same goes for the UHD.

Preferred Solution: Question about the T590's 4K Display, ...PWM?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This review in regards to the next Generation T series from Lenovo.

The machine I tested is based on a Intel i7-8565U 8th Generation Whiskey Lake 1.8GHz quad-core CPU.  It came with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a bright 14? QHD(2560 x 1440) with Dolby Vision 500 nit IPS screen.  The screen I got according to HWiNFO64 is Model LEN40AE with a Monitor name of B14QAN02.0. It looks to my naked eye as the same as my X1 Yoga 3 screen with Dolby Vision.  It?s a very nice screen. This screen does not support touch.  The side bezels have shrunk(see pictures below).

As for graphics.  It came with a Intel UHD Graphics 620 and Nvidia GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

For connectivity it came with 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, 1 USB Type-C, 1 HDMI 1.4, 1 Thunderbolt 3, a MicroSD Card reader and 1 Audio Jack.  An interesting feature on this laptop that I personally have not seen before is the left side USB C port can charge other USB C devices.  It can output 5V at 1.5A. I personally have not been able to try this. The Thunderbolt 3 USB C port can also output 5V at 1.5A PLUS it can charge another laptop using P to P 2.0 charging function.  I was not able to test this feature either.

For Networking the T490 came with a Intel AC 9560 and mine came with a Fibocom L850-GL and Bluetooth 5.0.  It also included a Full size ethernet port.

I just got a T590 and started using it last week. I have two pairs of speakers, one (Harman Kardon) a little nicer than the other (Alans). When I first started using the laptop, I could play music using the Harman Kardon speakers just fine. A couple days in, I played music from the Alans speakers. After that, I tried to play music again from the HKs, but it won't work. It's almost like the laptop thinks the HK speakers are a microphone. When I connected them, a little microphone icon appeared on the screen. Under the sound settings in the control panel, it showed both external speakers and an external microphone, and when I tried to play music, it would show that the volume of the external microphone was very high, and the volume of the external speakers on but very low. The sound coming though the speakers was soft, garbled, and mixed with a lot of noise. I got the same results with a pair of headphones. The Alans speakers still work. In the Device Manager, my sound controller is "Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)". I have tried both disabling and re-enabling it, and uninstalling it and letting the computer reinstall, and downloading the driver from Lenovo and manually reinstalling. This did not fix the problem. It is the latest version (6.0.1.8673). I saw in this post something about using a driver called "High Definition Audio Device" (the generic one from Windows?), but I didn't see that as an option when I tried to update the driver using available driver... Hello everybody.!I would appreciate any help.Started getting BSOD(Attempted_Switch_From_DPC) almost every other day and I've paid attention that this usually happens when laptop is idle.My laptop is a month and a half old and it shipped with 8GB DDR4 ram soldered in MB(  base ram speed is 2666mhz but the real working speed that shown in Task Manager is 2400 because of CPU).So I decided put extra RAM and it turned out that my laptop supports up 48GB RAM so I bought 32GB DDR4 2666 module from Samsung and got 40GB in total. Hi there guys, Hope this reaches the official team in charge of developing the UEFI for this two laptops. I would like to see an option in the graphic settings to allow me to disable the dedicated GPU (Nvidia MX250 in my case) and run only the laptop with the integrated Intel GPU and another option to run in normal "hybrid" mode. I have observe too, that when I select the option to give the integrated Intel GPU 512MB of video memory it does not retain the option after reboot and sometimes it doesn't even allow me to choose that option.Maybe a bug, I don't know, but I would like to have that fixed too.I'm using the latest UEFI/BIOS (1.52) by the way. Thanks for any feedback in advance. Best Regards,

My needs can be satisfied with T590/P53s and they have num keypad. P1/X1 Extreme on the other hand have powerful CPU (45W, 6 cores) and powerful GPU (good for 3D rendering, GIS explorations). Gaming is not a big consideration. Rational for GPU is really from a GIS perspective (in case there is some 3D modeling). T590/P53s - adequate, does not get hot, relatively quiet. Soldered RAM -- if a problem then that is not easily rectified. Is this ever an issue? I mean, RAM going bad (I have had this once only in business laptops). If soldered RAM goes bad, can the add-on still work? Or have to replace MoBo. P1/X1 Extreme -- more future proof, Carbon bodies, two DIMM slots. Powerful GPU - great for gaming and 4K displays. No soldered RAM issue. But seems that we are still discovering issues with cooling, fan noise, and battery life is limiting (hard to get advertised battery life without much tweaking).  Price diff b/w two, on sale, is about $250. Very tempting to go with P1/Xtreme but battery life/cooling issues are becoming a drag.  Appreciate any guidance.

I am wondering, are all the errors associated with display/screen problems sourced in the video card? Or is it more of a driver problem? I have updated drivers excessively. There seems to be no improvement. Any direction would be appreciated.

A:A question about display.

That is kind of like asking if a weird noise coming from the front of your car is usually the engine or is it more likely to be the transmission.

No way for us to tell without more information. You didn't tell us what card it is, what OS you are using, what errors you are getting.... And, actually, even WITH more information, we may not be able to tell.

It could be either one. It could also be a compatibility issue with your particular card and your motherboard, or some other card you have, like sound.

The easiest way to find out is to get a totally different video card (different brand and chipset if possible) and see if the trouble goes away.

I currently have a United States slideshow theme for my desktop background, but would really like to have pictures of family members in a slide show. I was able to do this on my old Win XP pc but have had no success in doing it on the new Win 7 pro.
When I do succeed in displaying a single photo it is much too large for the screen and is not only distorted but displays on a portion of the photo. I have tried reducing the size of the photo with a photo editor but to no avail - the size is not reduced on the monitor?

What am I doing wrong - can someone suggest a remedy?

However, when I download them on to my computer -- a Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP Home Edition on it - and run a slideshow or look at individual pictures through the "My Pictures" program, the pictures seem too wide. The people I photograph seem much wider than they actually are.

This does not happen when I download pictures from the camera on to another computer I own.

I just purchased a Dell U3415W monitor (love it!) but have a question about Display Managers for the XPS15.
At one point, my laptop had a really cool display manager that would attempt to snap a window into a location on the screen.  It seemed to sense what I was doing depending on where I was dragging the window and would automatically snap to 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16 of the screen.  The display manager showed gray "segment" previews based on how it would snap the window.
I had to reformat my computer (hardware issues, multiple techs, etc.) and that  display manager was never re-installed.
I tried downloading the Dell Display Manager, but it doesn't behave the same way (I preferred the old way).
Does anyone know what the factory installed display manager might have been?  I apologize for not having more specific information.

HI, I've red a good review about the Tecra W50-A-104 on notebookcheck and they say it mounts this panel and that is a really good display:

*15.6 pollici 16:9, 1920x1080 pixel, TOS508F, IPS LED, 92% sRGB, glossy: no*

But if I go on the Toshiba.de I see that the specs are:

*type: anti-reflective Toshiba Full HD TFT High Brightness eDP ? display with LED backlighting, 16: 9 aspect ratio*

A TFT instead of IPS

They are the same specs as the W50-A-116 that is available in my country, Italy. I'm interested in the W50-A-116 obviously and I wanna know if the 116 and 104 both mount the same IPS panel as the review says.

In general, the secondary display on a laptop is controlled on the laptop, either via a button or in the bios. Usually a button that toggles 3 ways: the laptop LCD, the external video out, or both. Without knowing your laptop specs I couldn't say for sure.

Also, you're not really using any more system ram to run on multiple displays *unless* your laptop video card uses shared ram, sometimes called 'turbocache' , etc.

I installed a program on her computer a few days ago and saw that she can't Browse to install programs anywhere except in C:\Program Files. She's given no way to Browse, and seems to have no choice, no way to get to her desktop or any anyplace else. A box comes up, I think called "Install Programs", and there's a drop down-type thing that just lists the folders already in Program Files. You can't Browse to install in the location of your choice. You can type it in, but who does that? There is no selection for desktop at all. Is this really how it is in XP-style display?

Hello,

I'm running IE, version 7.0.5730.11, on XP SP2. Have encountered an issue that I cannot replicate using IE 6.x.

The problem is the correct display of embedded photos (usually jpeg images) that launch via the "onclick" command.

Ebay is a good example.

An ebay seller will offer multiple pictures of their product for sale.

In IE 6, clicking on any of the pictures brings the pic to the center of the page without refreshing the entire page.

In IE 7, clicking on any of the pictures causes IE to redraw the entire page.

If you click on several pictures, you'll have to use the 'back' button several times (depends on how many different photos you had clicked) to return to the original listing.

In IE 6 you can "browse" multiple photos within a single page, then click 'back' to return to the original list of products.

Ebay is just an example.

Problem will also manifest on web sites that show a photo of a product with a 'zoom' button. Usually the zoom button causes a second, smaller window to open, displaying a larger image of the product.

In IE7, the zoom button now works as expected, BUT, the original page will also 'jump' to a zoomed image of the photo. You have to close the small, zoomed window, PLUS, you'll need to hit the 'back' button on the original window to return to the product description.

Make sense? Hope so.

This problem did not show up in the original IE 7.0 distribution. It happened shortly aft... Read more

Pentium II 350
6.4 GB HD
128 RAM
S3 Trio 3D on board video
WME

I am having problems with the display adapter. The system kept freezing on her and at various times when she'd boot it would be in B/W. So I assumed the drivers needed updated on the video. I hit the www.s3graphics.com site and downloaded the drivers. When I got to update them - the system automatically detects a standard graphics VGA card. ?? I've gone into Safe Mode to try to change to the S3 and it keeps telling me the drivers were not meant for this device.

My question is - if I were to purchase a PCI video card (new inexpensive) do I first need to REMOVE from the Device Manager all other Display Adapters, power off, then insert new card and reboot and let Windows find it? I don't want to mess up the system any more than it is!

Thanks!

A:Display adapter question

Disabling the onboard video can sometimes be problematic. If there is a choice in the BIOS it is the best bet. The choice is usually AGP to PCI, but your board might not be new enough to have AGP. Grub around the BIOS.

Some MBs have jumpers to disable the onboard video. If you can find out what the MB is you might find some reference to the jumpers on the maker’s site.

Some people have success just disabling the video in device manager by selecting “disable in this hardware profile”, shutting down and installing the new card.

Make sure you can return the card if you can’t get it installed.

Look for something in the driver you downloaded to expand it – like an .exe file. Sometimes pointing the driver install to the folder doesn’t work – you have to get it to the right file. Is there more than one file in the download?

I'm willing to bet the answer to my question is no, but I'm curious enough to ask anyway.

I work for a school district. We have a series of brand new computers that are a month old. They came with Vista, but we pushed them to XP for obvious reasons. With the release of 7 upon is, and it's testing in our environment been positive, we're eager to consider upgrading.

We use default local profiles on the machines, with re-directed my documents folders. But I was curious - is there a setting somewhere on Windows 7 that will automatically generate a different background photo each time you log in? I thought it'd be cool if all of the systems were identical except the background image.

Just a small idea. Thanks for any help!

A:Question about display backgrounds.

Roasted..

If you install 7, you can right-click on the screen, select Personalize, select Desktop Background, Picture location(your own folder if desired) and set it up to do a slide-show, set the interval from very short to very long, and/or Shuffle and you'll have a new background every "x" seconds, minutes, hours, days.. I havent seen a selection for "different every boot-up" tho..

I see a lot of inverters advertised on e-bay for a Dell Latitude D520. Problem is the D520 came with two sizes of screens, a 14.1" and a 15".

I wonder if the inverters for Latitude D520 work in all D520 regardless of whether the screen is 14.1" or 15"
