Q: Question about the T590's 4K Display, ...PWM?

Hi,I am wondering whether the Thinkpad T590's UHD 4K display makes use of PWM, accross all or any levels of brightness.I read that the FHD version had no PWM, so I'm hoping the same goes for the UHD.

Preferred Solution: Question about the T590's 4K Display, ...PWM?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

PSREF (https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T590) says that the T590 can be purchased with a "UHD (3840x2160) HDR" display. I can't find that option when I try to buy a T590. How do I buy a T590 with a UHD panel?

This review in regards to the next Generation T series from Lenovo.

The machine I tested is based on a Intel i7-8565U 8th Generation Whiskey Lake 1.8GHz quad-core CPU.  It came with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a bright 14? QHD(2560 x 1440) with Dolby Vision 500 nit IPS screen.  The screen I got according to HWiNFO64 is Model LEN40AE with a Monitor name of B14QAN02.0. It looks to my naked eye as the same as my X1 Yoga 3 screen with Dolby Vision.  It?s a very nice screen. This screen does not support touch.  The side bezels have shrunk(see pictures below).

As for graphics.  It came with a Intel UHD Graphics 620 and Nvidia GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

For connectivity it came with 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, 1 USB Type-C, 1 HDMI 1.4, 1 Thunderbolt 3, a MicroSD Card reader and 1 Audio Jack.  An interesting feature on this laptop that I personally have not seen before is the left side USB C port can charge other USB C devices.  It can output 5V at 1.5A. I personally have not been able to try this. The Thunderbolt 3 USB C port can also output 5V at 1.5A PLUS it can charge another laptop using P to P 2.0 charging function.  I was not able to test this feature either.

For Networking the T490 came with a Intel AC 9560 and mine came with a Fibocom L850-GL and Bluetooth 5.0.  It also included a Full size ethernet port.

I think the whole keyboard on my T590 is too dim, as is the screen, even with the maximum brightness setting. I don't understand why it's so DIM. What's the point of backlighting a keyboard if you still can't make out what the keyboard keys are?

Hello,I've had this problem for a while now, where apparently randomly the touchpad would start working slow.Movement would overall seem slower, and it would more often than not miss taps, so to click reliably i would have to use the physical buttons.I tried messing with bios power settings but they would bring no change. The problem only happens when plugged in with an AC adapter, one i bought on amazon to bring with me while working, while the original one that came with the laptop i'd leave at home.I haven't noticed any other difference from normal behavior, other than the touchpad lag.The one I bought is *supposedly* original, from Lenovo's amazon page, but has a different model ID from the one in the laptop packaging.  Here are the infos on both adapters:AC Adapter from amazon (CAUSES THE PROBLEM):-------------------------------------------------MODEL:      ADLX65YCC3ALENOVO PN:  SA10M13950      FRU PN: 01FR026INPUT:      100-240V~1.8A 50-60HzOUTPUT:     20V--3.25A/15V--3A/9V--2A/5V--2AMFG DATE:2019/098SSA10M13950C1SG89H1D78REV:500-------------------------------------------------Original one (DOESN'T cause the problem):-------------------------------------------------MODEL:      ADLX65YDC3DLENOVO PN:  SA10R16870      FRU PN: 02DL124INPUT:      100-240V~1.8A 50-60HzOUTPUT:  &n... I received my brand new 4k T590 a week or so ago, it looks nice, it works ok but I'm finding it really uncomfortable to use.  The front edges of the wrist-rest area are sharp - not burred, nor broken but sharp.  The plastic slab into which the trackpad is embedded and upon which you rest your hands actually "overhangs" the plastic base of the laptop by a mm or so, making a small but distinct lip across the front of the machine.  Sadly, the profile of that lip is straight, not sculpted down as in previous models - this makes it noticably sharp and tends to dig into your wrist and palms when typing, especially the left palm when using the mouse.  The front of my old(er) T580 doesn't suffer from this, its front edge is sculpted down and is silky smooth, as if it was designed with the knowlege that palms and wrists would come into contact with it... Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm wondering if this is an ergonomic failure across the model type or do you think it's just specific to my particular machine?

Hi Guys I was about to order a p53s with an UHD screen howevere the UK website does no longer have the UHD display available as an optional extra. I read the T590 has a below average display. How does the display compare on the P53s as i cant find much info on its display. Thanks. I registered on the Lenovo Site. I got a discount code for 10% to my email. I see on the  website it is reducing the price automatically using a'pseriessave' code. Can i use both of my discounts together? nIts a bit of a con hading out discounts codes when they discount it on the website anyway.

I know this is a similar post to this one but that one is marked as resolved and I'm not so sure it is. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/WinPE-driver-pack-for-T590/m-p/4520454#M... I'm having a similar issue. T590 pxe boots just fine, the MDT splash screen comes up but it fails to start loading the boot.ini settings and just sits there for about 20 seconds before rebooting. I am not able to hit F8 and bring up the cmd prompt.  I was getting similar results on the x1 carbon 7th gen until I got the WinPE drivers from here: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/ht074984 However, there are no WinPE drivers listed there for the T590.... I have downloaded the driver pack and added all of them into the winpe boot image just for testing purposes but it doesn't change the behavior. I've also read that this can be fixed by disabling the "Kernel DMA Protection" in the BIOS, however this did not change the behavior for me either. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6930c036-e827-4579-bf38-64d6dd7113e7/mdt-wizard-do... Is there a reason that the T590 winpe drivers aren't available for download? It seems like a winpe driver issue to me but perhaps it isn't. Been struggling with this for the past few days so any help is appreciated. FYI - I am not using a docking station. Pxe booting with the ethernet cable directly plugged into the laptop.

Hi, I'm trying to use my t590 under the new Fedora 31 linux and the experience is rather unplesent as for the fan noise goes. If there is nothing going on in the system then eveything is quiet so at least that's fine, but when the load starts to ramp up (browsing using firefox) the fan goes to maximu gear, spins as long as the the load persists and some time after (several seconds) and goes down to the lowest speed. Under Windows the fan is way more quiet and gradually increases its speed as the system load persists. Is there any way to make it behave like that under linux?

Hello,  I've been experiencing some issues when using my T590 with the ThinkPad Thunderbot 3 Dock Gen 2 (40AN0135US.) I'll list all I've been experiencing and dock setup.  Dock Setup2x Lenovo P24h-10 connected to HDMI Dock outputs Ethernet3.5mm cable to speakers135W power adapter supplied with dockUSB-C cable connected to T5901. When I connect the USB-C cable to the first USB-C port (first from the left with the power cable icon) one monitor displays at 2560x1440 but the other maxes out at 1920x1080 and has some distortion.  2. When I connect the USB-C cable to the Thunderbolt 3 port (second from the left with Thunderbolt icon) both monitors display at 2560x1440. The problem then is that sometimes my machine doesn't want to charge. Additionally, when using this port i have experienced the 1920x1080 max out and distortion once or twice. I was able to get around this by opening my laptop as a third display which then started displaying the correct resolutions on all displays. Eventualy I was able to close my laptop and the two monitors displayed correctly when using this setup.  Lastly, as I was writing this I connected the dock to the T590 in each scenario I wrote up above to ensure I had everything correct. When I connected into scenario 2, my machine recognized the dock but neither of my two monitors displayed anything. I re-connected back to the first USB-C port and my monitors came back (same resolution settings as scenario 1.) ... Read more

I have a Lenovo T590 laptop (20N4004DMX) and want to install WWAN module (Fibocom L830-EB LTE CAT6).But when i open the laptop i don't have the antennas for the WWAN module? I have watched this guide but this is "replacement" of the module and i can see the antennas there.https://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/videos/vid500076 I have addded the same module to many T490s laptops and the antennas are prepared for the module. Is this model not ready for WWAN module or do i need to install the antennas as well? Help please Regards Johan

A:Install WWAN module on T590

The laptop MTM 20N4004DMX isn't wwan upgradable - it doesn't equipped by both wwan modem and wwan antennas kit. Another missing part is a sim card tray, its dummy is there instead. If the sim card reader is soldered on the systemboard (check that out under the dummy) it could be possible to add missing parts if you have enough skills. But don't forget about warranty.

Hello, i recently purchased a thinkpad t590 CTO, it shipped with:- UEFI BIOS 1.54 (N2IET76W)- ECP 1.15 (N2IHT31W)The newest versions are UEFI 1.55 and ECP 1.16.I dont use windows, I run debian unstable on an encrypted root partition, so when fwupdmgr didn't work (*) I blamed it on it dropping files on a location not reachable by the bios, and moved on to the bootable ISO.I used that to make a bootable USB (dd if=n2iur15w.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=1M), and booted off of it.It showed a grey screen with 3 options, to run the update was "2" > "Y" > enter > enter > "Y".At this point it would work for a few seconds and then it would pop a red window saying: Error
Failed to verify Secure Flash image.
The utility process has not completed. I tried disabling the bios rollback prevention option (someone on another thread mentioned it), but it made no difference.I saw some other recent threads about faulty bios updates on other thinkpad models, could this be a similar situation?Am I doing something wrong / missing something? Thanks for any help.(*) for the sake of competion, fwupdmgr did see there was a new bios version, and it apparently ran correctly, getting to a "reboot required, do you want to reboot now?" line. But then, rebooting just made the system go back to the boot manager, showing no sign of any work being done (or skipped/errors) on bios updates.

I have an extremely bizarre issue with my new ThinkPad T590 laptop and how the system is detecting a lid closure.  After getting my system it started going into a "sleep" loop whenever I was using it as a laptop (not docked).  When docked with external monitors, keyboard, and mouse and with the lid closed the system behaves great.  But if it is undocked and I'm using it like an actual laptop the system would start going to sleep right in the middle of me typing.  The batter was fine and the events would happen even when plugged in.  If left alone & only the mouse used the system worked just fine but then when typing it would go to sleep & need waking up. On a whim I tried changing the power management in Windows to disable sleep when the lid is closed.  After I did this I still would have my screen go black while I was typing, but now it would come back up instantly and I could continues from where I was typing.  So my working theory is that there is something odd with the lid closure detection. Up till now the issue appeared completely random & I could not predict when it would occure.  But today I finally found a way to induce the event reliably.  If I have my hands in proper home-row position over the "asdf-jkl;" keys and then reach for the "5" button on the number row the system will, I'm suspecting, detect a lid closure.  I don't even have to press the key, only reach for it.  The event doesn't ... I just got a T590 and started using it last week. I have two pairs of speakers, one (Harman Kardon) a little nicer than the other (Alans). When I first started using the laptop, I could play music using the Harman Kardon speakers just fine. A couple days in, I played music from the Alans speakers. After that, I tried to play music again from the HKs, but it won't work. It's almost like the laptop thinks the HK speakers are a microphone. When I connected them, a little microphone icon appeared on the screen. Under the sound settings in the control panel, it showed both external speakers and an external microphone, and when I tried to play music, it would show that the volume of the external microphone was very high, and the volume of the external speakers on but very low. The sound coming though the speakers was soft, garbled, and mixed with a lot of noise. I got the same results with a pair of headphones. The Alans speakers still work. In the Device Manager, my sound controller is "Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)". I have tried both disabling and re-enabling it, and uninstalling it and letting the computer reinstall, and downloading the driver from Lenovo and manually reinstalling. This did not fix the problem. It is the latest version (6.0.1.8673). I saw in this post something about using a driver called "High Definition Audio Device" (the generic one from Windows?), but I didn't see that as an option when I tried to update the driver using available driver... Hi there I recently bought a lot of lenovo thinkpad t590's from a company that went bankrupt on an auction. However for whatever reason they put a master password on the bios also disabling any external usb's to load to install an OS on it. I've looked quite a bit on Google already but couldn't find an answer. My main question here would be how to either remove the master bios password or reset it or if Lenovo has a key bios password so I'm actually able to use an usb to install windows on.  All these laptops are in perfect condition but all have the bios password that prevents me to proceed installing a new os on it or even set the bios settings to default. Therefor I would like to know how I would be able to solve this, how would I get rid of this master password as that wasn't provided to me when I bought the lot from the auction. Is there any way to actually do this? Thanks in advance for further information. SincerelyRafaël De Jongh

I am new to working with Lenovo hardware and will be working on a new T590 (Windows 10). I like to repartition the drive by shrinking the C:\ OS partion and creating a new D:\ partion for data. This simplifies making WindowsSytemImages and backing up data. I expect that in addition to the normal Windows partions there are 1 or more Lenovo partions which include a factory restore image. I have learned that on some systems changing partions will break the restore functions. Can anyone tell me what I can and can not do with these partions? The manual on page 48 covers creating a restore USB device. Will this tool create the EXACT factory delivered image, including all partions, back onto this or a new hard drive (as opposed to some other configuration => less drivers and other tools)? I routinly make WindowsImageBackups and know how to use these. Are there any other Lenovo Image or restore realted tools I should know about?

Hi there, Another BIOS/UEFI request, is there a chance to unlock/create the option to enable/disable Intel SpeedShift option with the corresponding levels for AC and Battery scheme (0-254) to give the user the option to choose either SpeedStep or SpeedShift? With an 8th generation CPU I would expect to see this new technology enabled on this laptops instead of the software controlled SpeedStep that is currently enabled and avaiable. Measuring the dpc latency and forcing the SpeedShift setting via third-party software I'm able to see a lot lower and stable dpc latency that translates into a smoother experience and a better workflow in this machines. Will wait for some feedback, thanks in advance for the attention. Best Regards,

My needs can be satisfied with T590/P53s and they have num keypad. P1/X1 Extreme on the other hand have powerful CPU (45W, 6 cores) and powerful GPU (good for 3D rendering, GIS explorations). Gaming is not a big consideration. Rational for GPU is really from a GIS perspective (in case there is some 3D modeling). T590/P53s - adequate, does not get hot, relatively quiet. Soldered RAM -- if a problem then that is not easily rectified. Is this ever an issue? I mean, RAM going bad (I have had this once only in business laptops). If soldered RAM goes bad, can the add-on still work? Or have to replace MoBo. P1/X1 Extreme -- more future proof, Carbon bodies, two DIMM slots. Powerful GPU - great for gaming and 4K displays. No soldered RAM issue. But seems that we are still discovering issues with cooling, fan noise, and battery life is limiting (hard to get advertised battery life without much tweaking).  Price diff b/w two, on sale, is about $250. Very tempting to go with P1/Xtreme but battery life/cooling issues are becoming a drag.  Appreciate any guidance.

I have a Toshiba satellite (1 1/2 years old) running Windows 10. Is there a way to customize it so the computer will stay running when lid is closed but display will cut off? Thank you for any help.

A:Display question

Do you want the laptop to actually do something when the lid is closed ? If not you can set it to Sleep when you close the lid or to 'do nothing' but I don't think you can just turn off the laptop's screen.

I am wondering, are all the errors associated with display/screen problems sourced in the video card? Or is it more of a driver problem? I have updated drivers excessively. There seems to be no improvement. Any direction would be appreciated.

A:A question about display.

That is kind of like asking if a weird noise coming from the front of your car is usually the engine or is it more likely to be the transmission.

No way for us to tell without more information. You didn't tell us what card it is, what OS you are using, what errors you are getting.... And, actually, even WITH more information, we may not be able to tell.

It could be either one. It could also be a compatibility issue with your particular card and your motherboard, or some other card you have, like sound.

The easiest way to find out is to get a totally different video card (different brand and chipset if possible) and see if the trouble goes away.
