I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't shut down my pc, it goes in log off mode => shut down and remains like this indefinitely. I can only shut down the pc properly in safe mode. I think the problem is with the windows update installation. I downloaded the update from the microsoft site to try and install it manually but it can't be installed in safe mode, and in normal mode it requests restart to complete and the restart never works, please help me!!!

It seems like you have a software preventing Windows from shutting down properly.
Follow this tutorial and (you can do it in safe-mode as well) in-order to achieve a clean startup,
in-order for the changes to take place you need to restart the PC after completing,
once booted wait a couple of minutes for the OS to boot-up completely and shutdown Windows normally.
If that does it great, if not report back.

At my wit's end. Cannot find the right answer anywhere. I had to use restore points to get Media Center TV Pack installed on SP1. It is working pretty well. Windows update had lots of problems but finally got SP2 reloaded. Now I'm looking to get Windows Live Family Safety installed, but it requires Platform Update. I read about how this fails because of issues in Update, but the "fixes" don't do any good. I've tried using the FixIt. I've tried installing standalone Update packages, related and unrelated. I've tried the manual fix that edits the registry. I haven't seen any other suggestions, besides start all over with a new install of Vista and try to do it all in sequence the right way the first time. I'm not even sure what that would be anyway and I really don't want to start all over just to get a peripheral bit of software to work. Anyone else find the "magic key" to this problem that is not sharing it out on the Internet?

Hi, The update kb3024777 was issued to remove a previous update ( kb3004394 ) which caused issues on certain Windows 7 machines - ironically, one issue was the inability to install further updates. The first thing I'd suggest is to see if you can manually download and install kb3024777 from the following link. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45305 If the update completes successfully, restart the notebook. Regards, DP-K

Compatibility update for keeping Windows up-to-date in Windows 7

Introduction

This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows
Customer Experience Improvement Program. The diagnostics evaluate compatibility
on the Windows ecosystem and help Microsoft to ensure application and device
compatibility for all updates to Windows. There is no GWX or upgrade
functionality contained in this update.

Is this optional update good to install? I hid this update when it had the GWX feature.

This optional update has been lingering for over 3 days. It's as if MS wants you to download even though it is optional. I clicked on 'more info' and (according to the related explanation) it is not even for Windows 7. See link Below.

This update arrived with this morning's boot up. The title of this thread is a copy/paste from the WU screen. This is after I successfully installed the 11/10/15 updates on 11/15/15. When I went to look at the details of this update multiple times, IE11 stops working. If you put the link from the WU screen into FF, it says it can not find it or it doesn't exist. Just a heads up to folks. I'm going to let it sit for a few days before attempting to see what it's about. Not sure why I need an update for Azerbaijani Manat and the Georgian Lari, but I bet I can wait a few.

When I boot the PC and after the BIOS Windows 7 would start to load immediately. After the Tuesday updates, now I get about a 30 second delay (just a blank screen and flashing cursor) before Windows starts to load.

I haven't had much time to troubleshoot this, but after the updates, I tried to fall back with System Restore and it reported a problem and couldn't complete the restore.

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2533552) failed several times and wouldn?t update. (windows 7 home premium 64-bit)

I contacted MS support via email and the following is what they told me to do and it didn?t work and now they want me to pay for it to be fixed.

In: C:\WINDOWS.
In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
Right-click on the folder, select "Rename" and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this folder.

Then they asked for me to:
Click the "Start" Button, click "All Programs", and click "Windows Update".
From the left panel, click "Check for update".
If any update is provided, please click the "Install updates" button to install it.
This didn?t work.

They insisted this would fix it and it didn?t. They continued to ask me to look under updates and all the time I was working with them there were no new updates and nothing was found in the installed updates in the update area where they asked me to look where you do the updates (because the folder was renamed?).

I received this computer last year (before SP1) so the OS CD(or is it a DVD?) disk I have doesn?t have SP1 on it. I have downloaded SP1 on it so I don?t think it will upgrade to repair, and not sure how to do anyway. Not sure if I knew how to upgrade to repair if it would fix it anyway.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you!

The Critical update KB3121212 dated last Tuesday the 12th causes Outlook to no longer connect to my Gmail accounts.
The Outlook Send/Receive Progress window shows "...error (0x800CCC1A): 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified.  Try changing the encryption method.  Contact your mail server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP) for additional assistance'.
But the problem is not with Google (Gmail) - it is with the Windows update.
All of the settings for Outlook are the same as they were before, and as per instructions from Gmail.

I was able to use System Restore to get rid of the Security Update and get Outlook working again.  But on the 12th there were many security updates. I had to back all of them out, then install each one individually until I found the one causing the
problem.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and Outlook from Office 2010.

In our software, there is a control panel(panel 1), in panel 1,there is a button(button1) which is connected to another control panel(panel2).
If we click button1, panel can pop up. Before we install the update, the normal action is panel can pop up on the top layer, which can been seen in the following picture.
But after we install the ipdate, the phenomenon is strange, when clicking button2, panel 2 can pop up, but under panel1, we have to click on the button for another time, then panel 2 can show up in the front, this phenomenon is not expected.
I wonder if there are some changes causing this reaction. For example, modifying register key of fixed value of windows parameters , anyone has any ideas or recommendations?

Where do I need to start looking and what suggestions does anyone have (short of a format & install), to find the reason why I'm suddenly having trouble with some updates? Other than this, my system seems to be running fine and I've had no other problems.

to install. I  have tried the Windows update troubleshooter and that didn't work so I then tried to open CMD and type the command Ren
%systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak (as instructed by https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors) but then was  hit with "Access Denied" in the CMD.

I think it is also having an effect on my internet as it has been terribly slow when trying to use my PC for online gaming.

My specs:
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia Asus Geforce 970 OC
Intel i7 860 2.8 ghz
14gb DDR3 Ram

I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

Tried the following:
1. Update works if I bypass the router, ie. connect the PC directly to modem.
2. It also works from different ISP, through router (at work).
3. Format disk & Reinstall windows 7

Hi,

Try to remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration for Windows 7:

1.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start programs and files box.
2.
Right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
3.
Type the following command and then press Enter:
netsh winhttp show proxy
Note The proxy setting is listed next to Proxy Server. If there is no proxy server, Direct Access <no proxy server> is shown in the Command Prompt window.
4.
To remove the listed proxy setting, type the following command and then press Enter:

netsh winhttp reset proxy
5.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update, and then try to download and install updates again.Alex Zhaozx

Prior to Microsoft Windows 10 being released I had planned on getting it then changed my mind. Asked what needed to be done to stop the new Windows version from downloading. Suggested I should delete certain updates in Windows, which I deleted them. KB2952664 was one of the updates, although at this point I don't recall if it was that update for x64 based systems.

I've been marking that update as "hide". It gets hidden but pops up again when there are Windows 7 updates.

Do I need the update or do I not need the update and is there anything to be done to stop it from showing up in new updates?

Thanks for the help!
