FYI: Update KB4340558 (.Net Framework) broken, causes install error 0x80092004

Q: FYI: Update KB4340558 (.Net Framework) broken, causes install error 0x80092004

It seems that the packages of .Net Framework - Update KB4340558 - are damaged (wrong or missing hashes). Install fails with error 0x80092004 on Windows 8.1 clients and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Also KB 4054566 (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2) seems affected.

I've now round about 10-20 confirmations around the world. One user found a log entry:

?Couldn?t find the hash of component: NetFx4-PenIMC?

So I guess, the package is damaged/botched internally. I summed it up with the blog post
.Net Framework: Update KB4340558 drops error 0x80092004?. Guess MS need to
have a look into the package.

Preferred Solution: FYI: Update KB4340558 (.Net Framework) broken, causes install error 0x80092004

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday Windows Update offered me security update for .NET Framework 4 KB2572078 .

# The install failed and the cause might be:
1. i recently deleted C\Windows\Installer (not a smart move but it grew way too big )

2. some months ago had some Visual Studio 2010 uninstall problems as well (removed it with the clean up utility but i'm not sure it was done well)
## I already tried:
1. Uninstalling Framework 4 from Windows Add/Remove Programs (no luck)
2. using Windows Install Clean Up (no luck)
3. using .NET Framework cleanup tool (removed it)
4. cleaning with CCleaner for registry/temp files
5. Reinstalling it from Windows Update (no luck) & Manual Install with both Web and Standalone Installer full and client version. (no luck)
______________

### More Details:

-I still have Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X64 and X32 services even if i get error on trying to start them "the system cannot find the file specified"

-On manual install, it rollbacks the progress during installation of .Net Framework 4 Client profile then i get fatal error and a windows setup error.
I attach the log file along with the setup utility log file, MSI log (.rar archive) and screenshots of the windows setup error and Event Viewer logs.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Run the DotNetFix Cleanup tool and remove all versions of .Net Framework and restart. Now download the Windows Installer. After that go back to Windows Update and download all the .Net Frameworks in the right order leaving 4.0 to be the last.

Tried everything. From adding full user control to trusted installer and creator/owner in Windows/Microsoft. net and Program Data directories to therepair service verifier, making sure virus scanner is off, fixit solutions, sfc /scannow's clean bill of health, uninstalling a few upgrades mentioned with .netframe 4.0 and 3.5 etc etc. I get a fatal error if I try to uncheck .net 3.5 (the only version I can see since all other have been uninstalled) in 'turn windows features on and off), smartmsizap, msiinv, Smart boot(cold boot? with the startup items not checked and initial boot config). I think something is wrong here with either registry or program permissions because the initial 4.5.1/4.5.2 install zips to a random c:/ directory and then it asks me to find netfx_core_x64.msi which I point to in that directory, but says it is not the netfx_core_x64.msi that came with the installation.

As of current, I do not have any working .net framework which is bad because 1) some progrmas, ie video games require it 2) my schoolwork/development environments need it for things like Git

Another weird thing is although I manually installed net framework 1.1, only 3.5 shows up in the 'turn windows features on or off' and I can't 'uncheck' it or add the sub trees underneath it. Almost like it is not there but doesn't want to install additional componenets or be completely uninstalled.

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

My PC keeps trying to install the .Net Framework 1.1 update (KB953297) but it keeps failing. The Update is it says that fails is:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)

I recently cleaned some malware, rootkit and hijacker stuff off my PC, so I'm not sure if that could have caused this update to keep failing.

Note: I know there are newer version of the .Net Framework but my PC doesn't seem to have them installed (my Add/Remove programs only shows the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. However, I do remember it showing the 2.0 and the 3.X (can't remember if it was 3.0 or 3.5) before. I ran a dotnetfx.exe (from microsoft) that removed all the .Net stuff from my PC, so it removed all versions. Since then, automatic updates isn't picking up the other .Net Framework versions (it's only finding the 1.1 version update).

Anyone have any thoughts on how to get this update to install? Or do I even need 1.1? Could I just install the newer versions (and if so, how do I do that)?

Running Win 8.1 on a Lenovo U530 (factory specs).
I can't update the microsoft.net framework to 4.5.2 or 4.6.1.
I've tried a clean boot, the microsoft.net framework repair tool and windows update repair tool. The update repair tool fixed 3 issues and after doing so showed that there was no framework update for my pc. As soon as i began to manually download it however,
i then got a popup saying there were updates (surprise surprise, it was .net framework finally coming to its senses). And of course it didn't mean squat, the update still fails.
On further attempts of various methods I did notice that the .net framework version 4.5.2 fails to install, while the 4.6.1 will "rollback" its installation, although this doesn't seem to have any effects ill or otherwise.

In Optional components you will have the .NET Framework installers listed. Select the one required by the software you are using on your system. If you are unsure, install them all. Then your updates will install properly.

The logs say Ox643 is the error code. Looking this up on the MS site was no help. Any ideas about how to get past this? If Windows XP was reinstalled in that computer, it needs to be upgraded to SP3 first and then have all the post-SP3 high priority updates installed before you start installing any optional updates.

Since it's a Dell computer, there should be a sticker on the case with a 7-character "service tag number". Advise what that number is.

Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. If yes, you may have to contact the program manufacturer for any updates or uninstall and re-install the program.

Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note:

After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above KB article
But none of the non-Microsoft could be disabled ex Symantec, Adobe Reader and flash.
Tried Malwarebytes and it did not find anything.

The error is... unique. I can't seem to find a help page for it on any site, and nobody else seems to have... well... EVER had this error. So I'm just asking random people now, since I can't fix it myself. It will begin installing, and get mostly done, before it freezes up for a few minutes, and eventually backs out into an "Installation failed" page, with this error. I recently reformatted my computer, it's completely possible that I ****ed my drivers somehow when I was going through. I'm on 32 bit Vista. I get the same error trying to install versions 3.5 and 4. I've tried installing from windows update (which doesn't work either, probably related), I've tried the stand alone installer and the downloader/installer together. I've defragged my computer, tried installing service packs, which fail (probably related), I've done lots of random things I found on the Microsoft site to try and fix it.

Windows Update says I need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 . When I try to install it it says:

The following updates were not installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

So, I click on Start, Run, and type in installer. I find Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 RTL x86 enu, right-click and select uninstall. I get a pop-up saying " This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." So I right-click and select install. I agree to the licensing agreement and get the error:

Internal Error 2356. _2564_csc_exe_config_rtl_________.msm

Note: I'm in the process of re-installing windows. After downloading SP2 and then another 51 updates, I was downloading custom updates that included Windows Media Player 10, .NET Framework 1.1, an Nvidia codec, a GeForce 7600 GT driver, and a SATA Raid driver. During the install of these I got a blue screen (which displayed for about 2 seconds. I didn't get a chance to read it, let alone write anything down) and then a reboot. I went back to Windows Update and the above mentioned updates were all listed except the .NET 1.1 Framework.

Any help resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Even a nudge in the right direction.

I know there's a 3.5 if that helps. But, once you install it you can't uninstall it.

I know, makes perfect sense right? What do you expect from Micro$haft?

Hi all
I tried out the RC beta of win7 Ult x64, and the appz i use daily worked on it. So I got myself a real copy of win7 sense I dont need all in Ult I thought save some ? and get Pro x64.

But This gave me a lot of problems with .NET framework 1.1 which I must use for the app "Magic File renamer".

When I try to install framework
Code:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en
I get this error:

Code:
MS .NET Framework Setup cannot write to the setup log.
It closes and I get an option "Install with recommended.." and I choose that.
and get the same error.

Try to install it with using "Run as admin.." and get the same error.

Sidenote:
I installed Pro in same way as Ult. using no specific accounts, just the default created by win. Looking in control panel it says "administrator" on me.

Cheers
Nico

Before i explain in detail and post all the things you ask in the instructions i need to know what do you need from the CBS folder?.
At the moment the CBS log is 125MB which is too much to upload accordingly with sevenforums uploading rules. Also I had some CAB files which were pretty heavy.

shall i delete everything in the folder and start sfc /scannow again??

thanks

A:Cannot update framework nor MSE due to error 0x80070643 or 643

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

I tried to install the standalone version, but I get the same error.

The problem is a few months old. I messed up smth. trying to install a program sent by one client. I couldn't solve it using the restore option at that time either.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Try running the Net framework cleanup tool.

http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

Download it, run the tool, remove .net Framework 4.0 and then attempt to reinstall. If not successful you can always remove ALL .net framework and reinstall them.

Hi, everyone. I'm new here but really hoping that someone can help me because I'm at my wit's end with this. My problem is that I cannot get the .NET framework 4 to install for anything.

On Friday night I began installing Sharepoint Server 2010. Below are the following related products I had installed at the time:

- SQL Server 2008 Express
- SQL Server 2012 Developer
- Visual Studio 2011 beta
- Visual Studio 2012 RC
- .NET Framework (All installed through 4.5)

I had a lot of problems getting Sharepoint to install since I'm on Windows 7. I ended up having to download the EasyScript on MSDN which appeared to finally work by installing all the prerequisite files that were needed. However, it installed Visual Studio 2010 Trial on my machine which then prompted SQL Server 2012 to ask for the Visual Studio SP1 before it would run. Thus begins all the frustrations that have haunted me this entire weekend.

I cannot get VS 2010 or SP1 to install for anything. It is giving me an error every time (error code 643 - .NET 4.0). I have tried everything I can think of at this point. This is what I have tried:

- All Windows Updates (Visual Studio 2010 SP1 keeps failing)
- Uninstalled all .NET Framework files, ran .NET Framework Cleanup tool
- Ran Microsoft 'FixIt' tool for MSI files
- Uninstalled all Visual Studio versions
- Tried installing standalone .NET files
- Tried reinstalling Visual Studio 2010

Here's a screenshot of the failed install on VS 2010:

This has been an issue that's been ongoing for months. Here are the two updates that never seem to want to work:

MS11-039: Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 14, 2011

I've restarted on several occasions. It used to be one update, then it became two. The updates would sit there and act like they had been installed. My computer would tell me to restart. When I restarted, the same two updates would still be there. So the other day, I went and uninstalled all my .NET Framework updates and decided just to let Windows Update reinstall them. Bam, 30 new updates. So I let it run for a few days and I come in this morning. There are 3 new updates. One manages to install and the two same blasted ones are still there.

Here's a little bit what my update history looks like: wuapp FAIL

Now I want to mention though, that I'm on a shared network and typically, our server handles all of the updates. I've heard that alone could be an issue, but I have yet to see a solution based on that. I would be fine living without two updates if they weren't "Important" updates and were blocking me from installing any updates after 6/15/11... Read more

Hello ConureDelSol and welcome to Seven Forums.

Try re-setting and re-registering the Windows Update components. (See Option Two in this tutorial.)

Windows Update - Reset

After doing that try installing the updates from the hidden administrator account. (See Option Two in this tutorial.) I'd also temporarily disable your real-time AV in case it's causing a conflict. And, if you get more than, let's say, 5 updates to install, I'd do just 2 or 3 at a time.

Good morning:
I cannot update .Net Framework to 4.5.2 from 4.5.1.  I receive repeated failures with the following errors:
.Net Framework log file shows:

I verified the permissions on the above Registry key and ensured Administrators, SYSTEM, and TrustedInstaller all have Full Control.  I did note that the subkey "4.0.30319" does not exist, however.  The only subkey present is "2.0.50727."(Cause?)
