M91p SFF GPU Upgrade Failure

Q: M91p SFF GPU Upgrade Failure

I recently bought a Thinkcentre SFF M91p and tried to install an AMD Radeon HD7570 with NO success. The machine will not boot. The CPU and GPU fans spin, but it never boots. I thought first it might be a power issue, and tried unplugging the CD-ROM drive, which didn't work either. I then moved to upgrading the BIOS and that also had no effect. I did find this morning the PCI-e slot in this machine is listed as a 2.0 slot and the HD7570 is spec'd at PCI-e 2.1, so is this card completely incompatible with the M91p I have? What GPU should I be using that will work straight away, and give me the max performance in this system without having to upgrade the PSU? The system specs are as follows System type: M91p, SFFSystem model number: 4518Y4DOperating system installed: Win10 Home 64-BitBIOS version: LENOVO 9HKT58AUS, 6/10/2014Thank you for your help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a M91p SFF with:i5-24008gb RamAsus eah5450 low profile passOptical drive500gb hdd @7200rpmand 240w PSU So I have been researching a lot about what GPUs will work in my systemI decided to buy the GT730 (to upgrade my old gpu).It has a power consumption of 25w (TDP of 38w) according to the geforce website.I just want to make sure that it will work.Although I am confident it will work because the asus eah5450 has a power consumption of up to 75 watts.I MAY have to update my bios but my concern is that there's no bios update for Windows 10.I am also planning to transfer it to another case and buy a new psu but I am not sure what size the motherboard is (most likely micro-atx) and also the connectors to a new psu would be similar to the stock psu that I currently have The GT730 is on it's way and i'm planning to install it and removing the power to the optical drive (dvd) since I don't use it that often. This is just to make sure that my psu would hold the entire setup. Any suggestions guys? Thanks!

Hiya, In my current PC I have an i5 3470, and In the Thinkcentre M91p i have recently purchased, it has an i7 2600, which is a little overkill for what ive purhcased it for, so I was thinking of swapping the cpu's so I have the 2600 in my gaming PC and the Thinkcentre gets the 3470.However I'm not sure if this would work as I have no idea whether the motherboard of the ThinkCentre would accept the new Ivy Bridge chip, and I don't even know if my Asus P8H77-V would accept the 2600?So would this work? and how would I go about doing it? Im a noob at all this im sorry ;(All answers are much appreciated, Ajsski99

Hi,I recently got my hands on a M91p SFF with:i5-2400 CPU8gb Ram250gb hdd @7200rpm2 tb hdd @5400rpmand 240w PSU What I want to do is to convert this machine into a [email protected] / 1080p gaming machine. My plan is to buy the MSI 1050ti lp and even though it seems to run on the 240w PSU I feel that I want to upgrade it to at least 300w to be safe and so that I can upgrade the ram to 16gb and maybe add an extra fan and a usb hub in the front, where the optical drive used to be, so that I can connect more than just two USB gamepads in the front. After some goggling I found this power supply: http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/496 According to my measurements, is should fit. But I want to be sure, will this work in the case? Also, I think I read somewhere that Lenovo does not a use standard ATX connection, but from what I can see, this system uses a standard 24 pin ATX connection to the motherboard. I might be wrong though. I am no expert on computers and I have never upgraded or built a system before so I ask here to be 100% before I buy anything.  I hope someone where can shed some light on my situation. Thanks

Hi. I just purchased a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p (machine type 0266) which has an external 150w power supply. I purchased it to be used as a HTPC and i want to put a gpu and more ram in it. The problem is the power supply, all the ones i see people talk about have an internal 240w power supply. On the back of the pc is a DC in jack thats directly into the motherboard itself. I ran some calculations on power usage and the site i used said the recommended power supply size for the standard unit is 150w with a peak load of 123w. Adding the gpu alone pushes the peak load to 140w (nvidia gt730) with a recommended supply of 180w. My question basically is how can i upgrade an external power supply when all i can find is standard 150w external replacements or internal ones that wont be of any use

Hi, It appears we are many here to encounter problems with the restrictive white list of graphic cards for the ThinkCentre M91p (as well as M91 and M81) Small Form Factors. I have several AMD graphic cars which work straightforward with the M92p but emit no signal with the M91p. Some will argue that ThinkCenter are business machines and hence the restrictive list of graphic cards. But AMD also produces cards for the business segment, which are assumed being reliable. The white list keeps the M91p away from new cards. I upgraded the BIOS to its latest version, but this did not change anything. Is there a way to stop the filtering done by the BIOS or to upgrade the M91p's BIOS to accept new graphic cards ?What about flashing the BIOS for the M92p on a M91p ?I assume it wouldn't work as the marchines are different, but has anyone tried this ?

A:3.0 USB for M91p?

Should work perfectly fine.

Don't forget you should connect external power to the Molex connector on the card, in order to provide 900ma power to the USB 3.0 ports.  It says it's "optional" but I'm skeptical, especially depending on what type of external USB 3.0 devices you're planning on using. For my money, better safe than sorry.

I don't know if the M91p has a folded up extra SATA power connector on one of its cables coming from the PSU, but if so you can connect that to the SATA-to-Molex adapter cable they say comes with this card.  Otherwise you'll have to get a Y-splitter for a SATA power connector going to either your internal HDD or optical drive, and connect the second end of the Y to this adapter cable.

Basically I had XP Pro; then Family Pack x3 upgrade to 7 Home Premium; the latter was replaced by 10 X32 which was then taken to 10 x64.
I have just transferred successfully to a new PC.
Having the x3 version of 7, I wish to install it on my old PC for a junior household member (the third computer is my wife's laptop, upgraded to 10 x32).
I tried to install 7 but, I assume because of being an upgrade, the Product key was denied so I tried going back to XP which is successfully installed and activated. However, this would not upgrade as it was the basic program and needed first upgrading to SP2 minimum.
I've tried the 'net for SP 2 or 3 ISO files: I did find an SP3 but that would not work presumably needing SP2, I can't get an SP2 that works after several different downloads.
I don't want to go beyond 7 Home Premium (even if I could get there) as 10 didn't recognise the Pioneer DVD SATA disk in this older PC.
Can anyone help ..... not too technical, I'm nearing 80!

W10 upgraded proceeded, went to end reboot and presented Login screen
Then found mouse & keyboard not working (in fact no USB at all)

Found an old PS2 kyb that worked ... not easy finding your way around W10 having never used it.
Anyway in Device manager it shows that USB controllers each of them had a yellow triangle

The text says "Software for device blocked from starting, contact vendor for new driver"

If I then select update driver > search it advises "Windows detected driver is up to date"

So Windows thinks driver is wrong and doesn't load them ... yet also advises driver is the latest.

The mobo is ASUS P8Z77-V le
I have installed all latest W7 drivers

I have the W10 chipset drivers ready to install once upgraded - but there is no W10 USB driver, checked with ASUS on this and there is no W10 driver.

I have made sure Legacy support is enabled in BIOS

Is there anything thats stopping my current system from being compatible with either the power supply or the graphics card upgrade?

Does this upgrade make sense?

There's a reason that the power supply is so cheap. Get a quality unit before trying to upgrade anything. Your first attempt may have already broken something, but let's hope not. Get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008

Tried to reinstall studio8
Uninstall and remove every registry reference that I can find, using regedit and Regcleaner.

I even did a system restore to yesterday but got the same create dir failed message.

Hi - I had a working PC with Windows 8.1. I set it to download Windows 10 overnight, and the next morning the PC is unresponsive. It seems to have tried to install Windows 10, even though I said only download. Now I can't boot, and get "inaccessible boot device". What is this? I can't even reset back to the "previous build". Help :-(

A:Windows 10 upgrade failure

I found out that I had to go into the BIOS and set the "SATA Mode Selection" to "IDE Mode". The original "AHCI Mode" does not work with Windows 10. (Windows 10 had also reset the BIOS clock to 2014 - odd).
Anyway, I'm happy it seems to working now. I've upgraded several machines without issue, so I was a bit worried for a while there :-)

Greetings all. Newbie here. I have an HP Pavilion PC ( s5-1224) with an H- Joshua-61 motherboard and integrated graphics card. Recently took the Win 10 on-screen upgrade offer and  downloaded. Appeared to download with no errors, but system restarted, then it happened... Monitor screen went blank ( and no cursor), kybd, mouse, and all USB ports dead. Monitor and kybd work normal on 2nd com. Attempted Win + P keystrokes to see if com was looking for diff monitor- no help. Several hard boots no help. Removed CMOS battery for hours, no help. Cleared CMOS using jumpers on board, no help. All troubleshooting I have found so far requires either a working monitor and/or a working kybd, neither of which I have. Tried reloading a copy of Win 10 install media in both USB ports and through DVD player, thinking the screen would magically appear, no help. Have all devices disconnected now except monitor. After hard start, CPU fan is active, power indicator light on front panel is on, but no beeps to indicate errors. Some websites point to BIOS corrupted. Motherboard has BIOS recovery jumpers but instructions are no where to be found. Am I on target for the problem? Anyone know how to use the BIOS RECOVERY jumpers ( under the hood sense connector) to tweak the BIOS. Nothing to lose at this point as com is useless in this state.

Recently I purchased the Windows Vista Ultimate for one of my older computers. I did this after running the Vista Compatibility Program and given the green light to upgrade to Ultimate. My system is currently running Vista Home Basic (32 bit).

I ran the Window Vista Ultimate with service pack 1, it ran its own compatibility program and I was able to continue. The installation goes smooth until the very end when windows is rebooting after the completion of the upgrade. This is where I have problems. It stops and tells me that my upgrade was unsuccessful and it’s reverting back to the previous OS, Windows Vista Home Basic.

This is very frustrating. I tried twice to install this upgrade, to include tweaking my system and making sure I had plenty of room on my hard drive. Also, I uninstalled Service Pack 2.

Seeing that I did everything I could, I need to know if I have the wrong version of Windows Vista Ultimate and if so, do I need to do a clean installation, using this version. Any assistance from the Forum will be appreciated. Thank you.

A:Ultimate upgrade failure!

I will answer your question in a way that will surprise you. Regardless, of the results of the upgrade, ALWAYS do a clean install. Upgrades begin and end with problems. If you have the upgrade DVD, you can still do a clean install.

Clean Install From Upgrade Vista

Any problems, malware, virus, corruption that you had with the old OS, will carryforward to the upgrde.

Which would you prefer, your old car totally repaired, including a paint job or a new car. The same reasoning applies to upgrades. Other than marketing and sales reasons, I see no reason for MS to even suggest upgrades.

While upgrading from Vista to 7, something went horribly wrong the minute I put the disk in the drive and everything just stopped responding. Now the computer won't boot.

I've put the drive in an enclosure and checked it on another machine. The drive is running. Everything is still there. I just can't get the computer to see it.

I'm thinking that it just doesn't know where to boot from. Does this sound right?

I've tried doing the "F8" thing and nothing happens. I can't use a restore disk because I was running a downloaded version of Vista. Am I screwed or is there a way out of this mess?

Is there a generic boot disk out there.

Please help.

Dear madam/sir,
After hours of trying I’m at a complete loss and am resorting to my favourite forum in these situations, in the hope someone can help out.
I’ve downloaded Windows 8 Pro via MS Dreamspark. First I downloaded the English ISO file and burned it to DVD. The installation failed, so to avoid problems I downloaded the Dutch version, since currently I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate Dutch with language pack. I use the language pack to set Windows to English, but to avoid problems I switched it back to Dutch.

The problem
At the installation itself I opt to only keep my personal files, and confirm that I would have to re-install languages in Windows 8.
It then starts installing windows 8.
After the reboot the window 8 logo appears and the circle with the little bulbs ‘spins’,  and ‘preparing’ underneath uptil a percentage, then it reboots again and only shows the windows 8 logo with the bubbles spinning (but no percentage anymore), it does this for a few seconds then reboots again and again logo and bulbles only, for a few seconds and then it switches to a blue screen telling me the installation has not completed and the previous version will be installed. In other words, MS telling me that I’ve just wasted another half-hour of my time with no indication of what is causing the failure L

Are you performing an upgrade or clean install?

Edit: If your computer is set to boot from DVD first, Eject the DVD after the install completes when it reboots.

Mod edit:  serial number blanked per the Forum security guidelines, and expanded the Subject line problem description.

A:m91p: need windows 10 drivers

Microsoft and Intel do not support the Intel processor (Sandy Bridge) in the M91p for Windows 10, and therefore Lenovo does not have Windows 10 drivers for this system.

For the graphics driver, you can try the latest Windows 8 driver.   For the Network driver, you may find a Win 10 driver on the Intel download site (you can find the adapter model number using Device Manager.)

Hi all, My PC is : 4524e3u LENOVO M91P CORPORATE TOWER CI7-2600  3.4GHZ/16GB/320GB , full tower I just bought it used and installed my old power supply (Enermax Noisetaker 420W), as the one that came with this PC sucks. I installed my old video card (x1900xtx), and it booted fine. But unfortunately it won't support Overwatch (crazy I know...). I want to know the best possible video card I can purchase for this PC ($100-$210, I'm all about value), for gaming purposes.I was thinking aboutXFX Radeon R7 370 995MHZ 4GB Dual Dissipation GDDR5 HDMI 2XDVI PCI-EXPRESS 3.0 Video Card, but I read some other threads related that some people's PCs wouldn't even boot with a R7 card. My PSU does have an additional 6pin power supply. Someone else said in another thread that the best video card could only be Nvidia 750 Ti. I hope this is not true. Ultimately, I want to play Overwatch.  Thanks all!
