HDMI __ input port - or - output port on laptop

Q: HDMI __ input port - or - output port on laptop

I have had my desktop Dell, with Windows 8.1, well over 10 years, and now it has been hanging up after only a few minutes of booting up -- sometimes giving me a BSoD . I've spent many hours with different kinds of 'fixes' (which the computer couldn't eventually fix), 'refreshing' of the system', etc. I've given up on it . There are probably too many system errors to try and fix with outside-the-system apps, so I'm not going to even bother with it anymore .

However, I do have an HP Notebook, with Windows 10 Home (HP 15 with 4gb of installed Ram) that works perfectly .
I want to use the Desktop DELL monitor (which still works great) as a second monitor, because it is much larger than the Notebook computer screen .

I have an HDMI cable that works perfectly .
I plugged one end of it into my HDMI port on the Notebook, and the other end of the cable to the DELL monitor's HDMI port .

In the Control Panel settings for multiple monitors, I clicked on the number 2 for single monitor only -- clicked on the 'detect' button -- and it came back as "could not detect a device" . I rechecked both ends for a tight connection . . . and they were snug .
Still I couldn't get the Notebook to detect another device (the DELL monitor)

QUESTION :
I am wondering if the Notebook's HDMI port is an incoming signal only . . . what say you ?

Preferred Solution: HDMI __ input port - or - output port on laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a very specific question that I could not find the answer for anywhere. And I hope you guys will have the answer for. So, I want to get a new 4K monitor but since my laptop model's (Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab211nx) display is only 1080p, I wondered if it will be able to drive a 4k monitor. And sure enough, after doing some research, it turned out that there is a minimum requirement and that is, the laptop's HDMI output port must be the 2.0 version and NOT the 1.4 one. Therefore, my question is, is my laptop's HDMI output port the 2.0 version?Thank you,

Solved!

A:Can my 15-ab211nx Laptop' HDMI output port drive a 4K monito...

Hi, Unfortunately No, you can only get FHD (1080p) thru HDMI port on your laptop. I did not publish my tests early Jan 2017 using my loan HP x360 15" laptop and 2 other Spectre x360 13" laptops (they all have 4K screens) because I could not explain why they did not work on my Panasonic 4K TV Regards.

Hi!

I broke my Headphones port so I cannot use it anymore. But I'm a musician and need it crucially. So I thought to use one of other two ports (FOR HEADPHONE SOUND OUTPUT SIGNAL) I have left: one for Line in and one for Mic in.

My sound card is High Definition Audio (at least I see this in System->Devices).

Can I do this with any type of program or something else? How can I redirect headphone output signal onto Mic in or Line in ports? Thanks to all people who might help!

P.S. saw a lot of people looking for how to record their output using mic in. My case is different, I just want to use one of other two ports like sound outputs instead of my broken headphone port.

A:Redirect sound output port to sound input port

Surprised that you can get much of anything done with the default Windows audio driver, that provides about just enough functionality to to get sound. That is why it is show as a "high definition audio device". You need to install the proper driver for it to begin with and then there might be the possibility of jack assignment. Without it though it won't happen.

And no we can't tell you what you need for a sound driver as your specs don't list what your motherboard is, which is needed to tell you which driver assuming you are using onboard sound.

Hi there, I'd really appreciate if this could work, the details of my system are as follows:

Dell XPS L502X
Nvidia GT 525M

I have downloaded the Realtek Drivers as mentioned here for the Windows 8 version, plug in the HDMI cable but still the output doesn't go to the TV but sound plays from the laptop speakers.

Earlier when I used this along with the Win 7 OS, it worked flawlessly. I don't know what the problem is. I've tried uninstalling the windows drivers and then installing Realtek drivers but still doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated. I've attached the screenshots of device manager as well along with audio properties.

A:No audio output through HDMI port to TV

I've also tried downloading the ATI HDMI driver, I don't know why I don't have an ATI board anyway.. but from this site obviously it says no supporting device was found on the system.

Hello guys!

I recently ran into a problem with my main LCD TV(I need to replace the power supply.) I use that LCD TV for my desktop computer, and right now all I have is my laptop. I use synergy to control both computers. However now it doesn't matter because I cannot see the desktop portion. Is there anyway for me to output my desktop computer to my laptop monitor?

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

Hello All,

Well this is starting to drive me to distraction and Im hoping theres someone who can put me out my missery lol.

I have been trying to hook my laptop (toshiba satellite pro p300) up to my LCD TV via the same HDMI cable I use for my PS3 but the connector just wont fit. I keep finding all these posts in various forums saying how they cant get sound out the HDMI connection...that would be great, as at least that means they have them connected.

Are there different connections for HDMI? The one I have is diagonal connector but the port on the laptop is more square, and just doesnt fit. So if there isnt a connector, does that mean I have a funky port, on the laptop.

There is also the matter of connection my laptop to my amp that controls the surround sound system. What connection is best to use, as there is no real audio out connections?

Cheers

A:Satellite Pro P300 - HDMI output port doesn't fit

Hi

Can you please tell us what Satellite Pro P300 you have exactly? I mean the exact model number.
Maybe you can also post a picture of the HDMI port. Normally there are no different HDMI ports, all have the same physical dimension.
I?m not PS3 owner but maybe it has a special connector. Have you tried another cable?

Regarding the audio connection I use the normal line out port for my external speakers. Did you test this?

Using an XPS Studio 16 recently the HDMI port I have been using to connect my laptop to my speakers has been acting up. After connecting to my speakers the output automatically shifts to the speakers, however there is no audio. When I open the volume control panel it shows audio output being sent to the speakers. So far, the only thing that has resolved this issue is a restart, however after restarting no settings changed from the time when the issue occurred.

I have made sure my speakers are searching for input from the port I have connected it to.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, tell me any information I need to give you in order to help you, help me.

A:HDMI Audio Port Showing Output w/ No Sound

When using HDMI, the HDMI needs to be set as the Default Audio Device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel. If the "Speaker" is set as the default audio device there will not be any HDMI audio.

I just purchased a 15R Special Edition 7520. I placed the laptop in a desktop situation (use ext. keyboard + mouse + HD 1920x1080 monitor). Obviously I want to use the HDMI output to link to the HD monitor, like I have done for many years with my XPS 1640 laptop with HD HDMI output. I was surprised to see that when the HDMI out put is used the audio to the speaker/headphone jack is muted. I have searched through all the on-board menus, but cannot find a setting to allow audio to continue being outputted while the HDMI jack is in use.
Am I missing something here? I assumed this laptop would operate the same as the XPS 1640, in applications where the operator is using an HD monitor in a desktop situation (no built in monitor speakers) or a situation where you desire to feed your own audio system directly from the Laptop. BTW, I also own a DELL ZINO HD desktop with HDMI output, which does not behave the same way the 15R does. That system isalso hooked vis HDMI to an HD monitor, with no muting of the local sound.
Am I the only one who as had thisd prob? Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks... Paul...

My laptop was purchased in Sep-2010 and runs Win7 Home Premium Ed. (64-bit). It has worked perfectly until around June-2016, when the obnoxious Win10 free trial forced itself on my laptop.  As I had no choice I used Win10 for just a day or 2 and then found out that:  (1) I had lost the HDMI port audio capability, which I use to connect to my TV,and (2) The trial Win10 allowed me to revert to Win7, which I promptly did. In my restored Win 7, everything was fine, except when I goto Sound in Control Panel to configure/reconfigure HDMI as the default, I could not -- the item that used to show up as "AMD HDMI Audio" no longer appears.  I recall a message during the Win10 free trial period that says it disabled all incompatible hardware.  Without a doubt, Win10 free trial "killed" this HDMI port/device, at least audio-wise. Today, I still run the same Win7, but I can no longer get HDMI audio on this port.  When I connect to my TV, only the video works.  The Device Manager of Win7 shows it with an exclamation mark in yellow and when I right-click it to get more details, there is a message from Microsoft saying:  Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. Hi @Blazinfire,

Welcome to Community Forums!

It supports external digital monitor via USB Type-C. Which has Max resolution: [email protected] (USB Type-C)
You can connect to your TV via USB Type-C using a  USB-C to HDMI Adapter.

You can refer to the Support Site for compatible USB-C to HDMI Adapter. Just type in the serial number then search. Go to Accessories > Select Categories > Cables and Adapters.

The BIOS update is faulty, no system restore can fix this. Even still today (13 JUN 2016) one of our laptops automatically installed this BIOS update with the HP Support Assistant, and killed the HDMI port. A. I too did the BIOS upgrade to my ENVY 12t-d0000 which caused my HDMI to stop working.  After several hours with HP chat support and some sort of bios update, I'm still w/out a working HDMI.  I have been expecting an ecalation case manager to contact me, but it's been 40 hours so far (was promised to be contacted w/in 48 hours).  At this point, even though I've been a loyal HP customer for years, I'm VERY FRUSTRATED. Any suggestions on what I can try next?

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Tecra R950 laptop and my HDMI port stopped working after a Windows 10 update. I have tested the cable on another laptop and it still works fine. I have read a lot of posts on Microsoft forums and this seems to be a very common problem without a straightforward solution. I'm not brave enough to roll back updates, uninstall display drivers or fiddle with graphics cards as is suggested by various forum participants. Customers suggest that manufacturers such as Toshiba may be able to liaise with Microsoft to find a solution for what seems to be a significant ongoing issue. So here I am.

If anybody does have a fix for this problem, I would be delighted to here from you.

A:Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan settings > Proxy server > Advanced. Delete the proxy server settings under HTTP, HTTPS (secure) and FTP (and Socks, if any). Then, under Proxy server, uncheck all boxed.

If running Firefox too, disable proxy server.

I have suddenly gotten this on my main computer. (Windows XP)
A previous techguy thread (expired) said to check my dns numbers with "jpconfig /all"
However, my computer will not allow me to run that program in safe mode.
Is it a bug issue... or will that program only run in full mode?

Dear mulebit,
It actually is " ipconfig /all " i.e replace" j"with "i".Please go to command prompt under Start--> Programs-->accessories. No need for "safe mode" to carry out this task. Can you kindly provide details of your computer specifications? Are you using a third party firewall and if so which brand? What security software are you running?

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or 0.0.0.0.80/443 which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

Some info on common ports used, http://www.chaminade.org/MIS/Articles/Fire...ortSecurity.htmI don't know much about connectivity problems...but it seems to me that...if you never had this problem before and your system connects properly outside of this hotel...the hotel/location may be the problem.Worth a read, IMO: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-37752-c...on-the-internetLouis

I only need to know if the HDMI port is output-only, or is it capable of input as well? If it is input-capable, does it require setup to use it in this mode? I'd like to transfer video from a tape in my HDMI-capable Sony Handycam directly into my computer for video editing. My computer is an HP Envy Notebook M7-N101DX, Model M1W07UA. Thank You.

A:HDMI; input or output-only?

Hi, It has HDMI out only. What is the model of your Sony ? Regards.

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.
