I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I'm running Windows XP on a Compaq Presario. As of late it has been running extremely slow. After I put in my password the desktop background will show up, but no icons or Start bar. 5 - 10 minutes later the icons and start bar will show up, but the background will go all black. Every few minutes I get a warning from the system tray saying "Warning! Security report. Your computer is infected! It is recommended to start spyware cleaner tool." The only problem is that whenever I try to run a spyware cleaner tool my computer restarts itself. In fact as I am typing this a message has popped up in the center of my screen saying, "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It seems that if I ignore it nothing happens, so I'm going to finish posting this and then shutdown my computer and stay updated on this forum from a different location. But here are my logs.

A:No idea what is wrong with my computer!

Hello, This Is
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

We Need to Run ComboFix

Note to readers of this post other than the starter of this thread:
ComboFix is a VERY POWERFUL tool which should NOT BE USED without guidance of an expert.

My Gaming Computer recently stopped showing anything on the screen. What I mean by that is that it boots up fine but you cant see anything on the screen. I know the Monitor works fine because I am using the Monitor right now. I tried exchanging the Video Cards and I still get the same result. I bought a new MB and nothing. For some reason I think the problem is coming from the CPU. The CPU was overclocked and working fine untill this little problem.

A:No Idea what is wrong with My Computer. Need Help Bad

Quick question.
What do u mean by " it boots fine, but i don't see anything on the screen"? Do you mean that it will power up with no error beeps and you'll hear some noise comming from the case?. Because if that is the case, that doesn't exactly means it boots up.
Let's assume that you turn the puter on, where some "noise" comming , u hear some whirls, u hear the hdd spinning for couple of seconds but no video and no error beep. If that is the case, then it's not booting, it's starting but thats the extend of it. Since you mention overclocking, that really sounds like fried cpu. The board will start, but it will not boot up.
On the other hand, if you start the puter, but not able to see the BIOS logo and all that , but able to see the windows, then it's more likely the video card. What i mean , for example ATI or Nvidia will display the logo and some info, then the BIOS info after which windows splash screen. Matrox ( stop laughing now.. ) doesn't do that. It will show the BIOS info and windows splash screen but no video info. So it could be possible that if you're using some "off brand, no name video card " that might not show the BIOS screen.
On the other hand, i assume you have a desktop ( judging by the video card swap). Because if you have a laptop with a video out, well then its possible that you might have set it to video out instead of LCD.
On a hunch, since you replaced most of the parts, i... Read more

My Toshiba Satellite laptop has been going weird on me the last week or so. Anything that qualifies as a picture, including when I play video games and watch movies and anything that just has lots of colors like even the tech support guy logo on top, has all these red shading pixels appearing. Sometimes its really bad and there is a lot but most times now there are at least some that distort it. It's gotten to the point where they are actually forming lines of red on my screen. Also green ones are starting to appear too. I am not sure how to describe their look very well but its making it hard to look at anything that is not pure text since I guess it doesn't go buggy with simply colors. It's really starting to worry me since I am 99% positive this is something to do with my screen and thus not easily fixed if at all.
Oh and my laptop is slightly over 2 years old.

Okay so heres the thing... my computer has been pooched since i bought it... I looked and looked for the model i bought so i could post it here for you but it was so long ago i cant remember but its not really important.
Cause right now i just need to narrow down whats wrong based on the symptoms.
You see when i got it it would crash constantly with no prompts or warning or error messages. Every time i tried to play a game it would just go out. Bigger games caused it to go out faster. I took it to a repair guy who said "Its cause your power supply isnt good enough to run this rig" so just to be safe I bought a 850 wattz power supply, more than enough for this computer..
I took it home and it ran fine for abotu a week and could run big games. but than it started doing it again and more and more frequently as time went on (( although that might just be in my head, theres a chance it was never actually fixed )) so i called him up and said it didnt work and he said "Well i ran it in my shop all night with stress testers and if it was gunna go out it woulda did it in my shop. it must be your outlets not being powerful enough to run your computer"
Now.. That doesnt sound right casue it can run my consoles just fine and my old PC and he said it had something to do with my circate board having 1 wire or 2? but we use a fuse box...
anyway... heres the situation. recently it started going out more often as the summer gets closer and when it does go out it will crash like 3 ... Read more

A:Computer Crashes.. No options left, no idea whats wrong...

have you tried to just let it idle overnight and see if it idles fine? it is possible you have what they call dirty power in your outlets but that issue is very few and far between with a new power supply in I don't forsee a power issue but it could possibly be a bad ram stick or overheating. I suggest letting it idle overnight 24+ hours and see if it lasts that long idle doing nothing on it

Okay... first of all.. I have only had this computer for 4 months. My boyfriend bought ALL the parts for it from http://www.newegg.com and his brother, who knows a TON about computers, put it all together for me and installed everything too..

Just this past week-two weeks, my computer has started to randomly shut itself down... it doesn't matter what I'm doing. I've done scans like crazy, asked some computer friends and nothing, they keep saying it's either something to do with it overheating or my power supply... but I can't see how 4 weeks can ruin a power supply.

my mother and I have looked all over th net for any information and found SOME stuff, most says to look at the event viewer and we did, once I fixed it so it only shows the bad stuff.. I'll see if I can post it in a 2nd post after this. this post is where I'll show my rig. I'll say now, my boyfriend made it so this is a gaming computer because he knows I have tons of games that I LOVE to play.

Sorry if this belongs in the wrong place, kinda new :)

What happens is that when I boot up my computer, after the windows XP loading screen/before the Welcome screen, the monitor just goes out. It sort of flashes back and forth from black to a lighter shade/greyish, also the green light (indicating the screen is on) flashes on and off. It does start up showing the POST tests, BIOS screen and the Windows XP loading screen though.

This all started happening last night when my computer's monitor went to sleep mode due to inactivity. When I moved the mouse to wake it up, the flashing screen started happening. Waited a couple of minutes and it didn't seem like it was going to do anything else so I just decided to reboot and that's when it started happening.

I changed graphics cards yesterday as well. From a MSI 8800GTS 640mb to a Sapphire ATi HD4870. It was working fine in the afternoon, I was playing Call of Duty 4 and a couple of other games using the new graphics card. All latest drivers and necessary utilities are installed.

My current system is of the following:

Video card: Sapphire HD4870
Power Supply: Antec True Control 550W
CPU: Core2Duo E6750 @ 3.5GHz/1.5v
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35C - DS3R
Case: Antec 900
Hard drive: Western Digital 500GB

All comments/advice regarding the problem at hand would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:No Idea What's Wrong

Welcome to TSF....

If this started after you changed the video card I would suggest putting the old card back in and seeing if the problem resolves itself. If it does then you either installed the wrong drivers for the new card or the new card may be defective

Last year my pc (2001 Pavillion 7936) died on me . My dodgy local computer guy fixed it....but earlier this year Microsoft started telling me that I had pirate software. So like a dickhead i reloaded windows from CD's at work, with codes and all. Wasn't going to spend 100 quid on something I'd already bought but lost the cds in the last 5 years.
Now none of my games work . They won't go into the opening credit/start up graphics. I think it's possibly the Nvidia driver that's ****ed but no results from downloading a replacement. Worse is microsoft are still telling me that i've got illeagal windows and should buy it again ....having lost loads of stuff by not backing up in the first place.
Any suggestions as to how I can get my games to work?

Hello,I have been trying to resolve this issue for the past 10 hours. My entire work day was lost because I cannot figure out what in the world is wrong with my computer. Normally, I can figure things out and this is absolutely driving me crazy. I attempted to follow the prep guide instructions. The Spybot program and AdAware worked just great. I use these two programs regularly. However, I sat on the Housecall Anti Virus screen for about 6 hours today and then it said it was going to take another 13 1/4 hours. fine until i did a disk cleanup. when i restarted, it took like 30 mins just to boot up. at first i thought it crashed, but after awhile it will shows the loading bar and slowly boots up. did a scandisk, found some lost fragments...

does anyone know what causes this slow boot up? and the system is
now running very sluggishly.

did disk cleanup accidently deleted some important files?

how can i fix this? it's a laptop and if i use the recovery disks, it will reinstall everything.... pretty troublesome as i have some licensed software that
i may not be able to get the installation code for the second time

thanks!

A:any idea what's wrong?

I'd try the system restore option first. I doubt that the disk cleanup deleted anything important unless it was already in recycle bin. also run chkdisk and defrag

Now, I'm hardly a computer virtuoso but I believe something is wrong here.

I have no idea what variety of virus is causing this so have no idea how to remove it but I'm hoping you could help.

The only noticeable changes are that the window appearance has suddenly reverted from the Vista default appearance to Windows Basic. I also recieved an error message upon powering up informing me that my laptop could not connect to the Windows Network and that problems may be experienced, I am unsure if it is this lack of connection which is causing problems or if it is an effect of having some sort of malware, and everything just appears to be running incredibly slowly although my CPU usage is hovering at around 13%.

Any information on if this is even being caused by a virus, what kind of virus it is or how to resolve my problems would be greatly appreciated

Not sure which forum to post under, so I chose what seemed to be the most general.

Was playing a game, game froze up, now whenever I turn my computer on, all these icons pop up and I cant even get to the user log in screen. It gets past the loading screen with the windows logo (which looks distorted but no weird symbols) , but then it says rgb no input signal, which is normal, but the screen keeps slowly blinking the message.

I tried switching out hard drives, since I have 2, but it did nothing. I can't replace anything else sadly.

I'm fairly sure it's either the power or the mother board, can anyone help?

Hello,

About a month ago I had my wife's sister and b/f stay at our house while we were on our honeymoon. Since then, our computer has been completely batched. I've run Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, Spybot and AVG. There were a couple of things, but they were cleaned/quarantined.
I thought the issue was resolved, however, the computer still freezes and is very slow. Nothing is showing when I do the checks though. Can you please advise me of what to do? I'd hate to have to reinstall windows.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome
With System Restore I would go back to pre driver install.
The install one by one and test the game. Once satisfied you can install the next driver.
Once you know which driver or drivers is the problem, do not update them.

With drivers current is not always the best
I had to roll back a current graphics driver due to monitor problems.

I have a Gateway laptop running windows 7. its model is a NV53a73u i believe.
But anyways, recently its been acting up and i have no clue as to how to solve the problem, ive tried everything i know, which isnt all that much.
just recently my laptop started being dumb, when i start it in normal mode, everything starts up fine, though a little slow, then after 2 or 3 minutes nothing with load anymore. when i try to open an application or program from my taskbar it lights up, then loads for a minutes, and then fades and nothing ever loads after that. after that nothing else will work in any way. when i try to open task manager, it freezes the whole thing and eventually loads a black screen that is accompanied with a error for task manager. So my only way to do anything is to hold the power button to shut it off.
Then i start in safe mode and everything works just peachy keen. Ive scoured the web for solutions. Ive tried researching all my background programs, tried defragging, scanning, deep scanning, even taking my laptop apart to clean the fan and heatsink. Nothing has worked.....
If anyone could please reply with suggestions, im willing to try just about anything, that is except for a factory reset, since i have a large amount of important documents and music/video on my laptop. so PLEASE help me......

Where to start..............my pc is a HP Pavilion a 200n, running Windows XP Home Edition. A couple of weeks ago my boyfriend downloaded a game that one of his friends told him about. The game was over 2 gb in size. We attempted to download it twice, but the files were incomplete. I went back to the website after deleting the files, and completed some downloads neccessary before downloading the game. While downloading the game, I deleted some folders and pictures to make room for the game. Once the download and install for the game were successful, my boyfriend went in to the game server and discovered that he would have to set up our pc as a public server ( or he had the option to make it private with password protection). He then decided he didn't want the game afterall. In the meantime, he had deleted a folder from my desktop that had not been saved. I deleted the game( I had downloaded it to the desktop, and that is where I deleted it from) and then did a system restore to a point before the download of the game in the hopes of getting that folder back. When the computer restarted there was my wallpaper and a big box that said system restore in the upper left corner. Inside the box was blank though. I closed the box and then noticed that I had no icons, no start button, and no system tray. I restarted the pc in safe mode, and still no start button or anything else. The windows key + pause/break button doesn't work. I ran Adaware, systemclean,Norton's, and ... Read more

Hi all,
ok so first of all sorry for weird title didn't know where to post or what to put in title that would summarise my prob.

My bff brought me her desktop this week so that i could reinstall windows 7 on it, as her little bro had his hands on it and most likely downloaded something dodgy causing a complete meltdown in OS.
So I connected it to my monitor (it has been connected successfully in th past with no glitches) and the screen flickers every 2 secs, sort of like a blinking kind of thing. It does it as soon as th MOBO info shows up at the start and continues to do so, until i turn it off. Then after loading just before the win logo it comes up with black screen white letters, options to choose from. So I select normal win boot, afterwhich it loads the logo and then (whilst still blinking) comes up with BSOD with stop code 0x0000000116 (dont know how many zeros) and then the pc proceeds to restart.
Now I can't read what the BSOD says exactly because as I said the screen blinks every second, but from what i can gather this error has something to do with the videocard and/or drivers.
Anyway so I dismantled everything, the remounted bit by bit, to try and pinpoint the prob, but everything was working ok. So I tried to restart and the blinking stopped, so I gave the install a go.
Only for the install to stop after the restart bit and bring up a blue screen, asking to be put into safe mode, and when doing so being told that win install cannot finish must restart... Read more

horrible problem, please read and help me.

Hi all, today I installed a second hard drive and everything was working fine when I turned the comp back on. After doing the necessaties of hd installation I copied my whole video folder (40GB) and that finished with no problems. I then copied my music folder (25GB or so) and pasted it into my new hd. While that was going I then felt like listening to music so I opened itunes and turned some on. Around 20 minutes later a constant loud beeping sound started and the computer froze.

I turned the comp off and when I went back into windows it freezes the moment the loading screen comes up (the one with the black background and green loading bar).

I rebooted and went into ubuntu 7.10 and its still working however all my files are gone except my installed programmes, wallpaper, firefox settings are all normal. I cannot see any hard drives with windows and other file partitions the file browser.

This is VERY alarming, PLEASE help.

Specs:
Athlon 3500+
1GB Ram
GeForce 7600GT
WD SATA 320GB (the one with winXP/ubuntu installed)
Seagate PATA 160GB (the one I just installed today)

A:BAD problem, i have no idea what's wrong

Ok, well I tried to reinstall XP (following the stickied thread in this forum) and after it had finished installing it reset and when I let it go into XP the problem I have is still there.

The good news however, is that since coming back into ubuntu I can see all my partitions and data so I haven't lost anything.

So what should I do about not being able to get into XP (reformat or what?)

Any answers would be very much appreciated.

Bump I suppose================Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member ... It works fine for hours at a time but now and then it locks up: i can only move the mouse pointer and the hdd light stays on (but with no appearent activity) - this goes on for a few minutes and the pc strats working normally until it happens again. I previously thought it was a driver error because i would get the blue screen of death, but then installed fresh windows and i dont get blue screen anymore, just pc freezing.

I ran checkdisc on all of my hdds and they show no errors. I only have some trouble lately with removable drives (win wants to format them but when i plug them into another usb they work). Also 4 months ago my grapics card blew its capacitors most likely because of a ****** psu and both were replaced and the pc worked great until the freezing problem occured. any ideas?

Here are the specs:
Mbo biostar p43-a7
Cpu intel e8400 @ 3ghz
Ram 2x2gb ddr2
Sapphire Ati radeon hd5770
Hdd 2x hitachi sata 320gb
Psu corsair tx650w
Dvdrw sata tsst corp

Os Windows 7 x64

A:i have no idea whats wrong...

Is there any kind of consistency as to when the problem occurs, or is it totally at random?

It possibly that your previous PSU may have caused other damage.

Do a full RAM test using memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/), let it do at least 2 full tests which may take several hours. Download the free ISO bootable image, then burn that to CD and boot from it.

I'm hoping that someone here can help with this. This problem began two days ago when a rogue anti-spyware installed itself onto my computer. That rogue anti-spyware program is called WinSpywareProtect and it is a malicious program (to say the least). I tried all sorts of things trying to get rid of it, including, unfortunately even MORE rogue anti-spyware programs that tried to pass themselves off as legit (SpyHunter3 and a few others). Nothing seemed to actually remove te WSP so I finally did a search on my computer for all wsp files. A list of about ten fiiles came up and I was able to delete or move them to the recycle bin and then empty that. That seemed to solve the probems that WSP was giviing my (constant and repeated popup ads trying to get me to buy their program). However that seemed to bring on a new problem (this morning) that being whenever I try to go to a website online I get the website that I am trying to go to but another website also comes up and that is where I am directed. All of these "popup" websites have one thing in common they are all trying to get me to provide my personal info to them and sign up for all sorts of things from e-bay to cruises to other antispyware programs.Long story short I have tried everything that I can think of to try to get rid of this but nothing seems to work (including running SpyDoctor in Safe mode and rebooting). I have included my HiJackThis log (as I was directed to do) in the hope that someone here ... Read more

When I start my computer I get a bunch of error messages. Multiple things not working. I've seen a few similar issues posted here and I've tried the suggestions but they didn't work. I've tried running maintenance tasks, but they crash in the middle (related to the error messages I think). I also had the problem of whenever I started my computer or opened it, the internet would shut off. My screen would blink off and then on. I've checked for viruses, run multiple anti-spyware, and tried restoring my computer.

A:No idea what's wrong with my comp

Have you been running registry cleaners, optimizers, or tune-up utilities?

What are the error messages?

One day my computer just froze. It never freezes. well.. i thought "o well ill just restart it."

After a few minutes it froze again. I didn't run any programs. I restarted it again.

This time it froze before it got to the desktop.

Now it won't work at all.

The fans light up and the computer gets its power but it doesn't send anything to the monitor.

*When you turn on a computer, u can turn it off with just one push from the button while the screen is black with white letters right? I tried turning it on, waiting for a second, and pushing the button. It won't turn off.

I know it's not a monitor problem so it must be something wrong with the interior.

please help =[ I haven't been able to use my computer for a month now. (This is my friend's computer)

Does it even POST?

Have been directed to start new topic.

Recap of problem: "My laptop crashed about 2-3 weeks ago and required a new hard drive and OS installed by a local computer repair guy. Laptop had been working fine up until 2 days ago when it all of a sudden started running slow and wouldn't allow me to log in to programs such as Dropbox, Hearthstone (error "we couldn't launch this game because your operating system wouldn't let us write to the registry...") and Skype. I also got an error message when opening Google Chrome saying there was an error loading my profile etc. Chrome was also really slow to open and doesn't run very well now. I foolishly didn't re install AVG anti virus after the new hard drive was installed, when I installed AVG this morning I did remove one Trojan Horse threat."

ok before i start, i must admit; i suck with computers..
anyways
i wanted to play a LAN game with someone but it didnt work. i asked for help other places and they asked me if i was able to even share files using LAN..

and.. i just dont know how to get that done.
i have been looking at soo many posts and google links, but i still cant get it to work

this is what i have done and tried:

both firewalls are off, they are connected to a modem via LAN caples.
the second time i tried, my vista was also connected to the internet via a dial up modem.. i wanted to see if atleast i could get internet from my vista over to my xp but that didnt work.

anyways
on my Vista, in "Network and Sharing Center" the LAN network is there, and its called "unidentified network(public network)" and underneath it says Access: Local only Connection: Local area network.
on my XP, the LAN connection is also connected..
on the modem, their ports are lighting, so basicly they are connected to each other.

so now when i try to share a file from my vista over to my xp;
right click on file = Share.. = now here is the problem. i cant find anything to do with LAN. but it says that i should choose one of the users of the computer.. so maybe i cant choose the LAN? but i should be able to?
maybe its because i need to "create" a network where i can then configure it to use the LAN modem... but i dont know how to =(

on my XP.. when i go to my network places, i see alot of folders ... Read more

A:HELP PLS, no idea what is wrong. cant connect my Vista to my XP via LAN

Have you tried linking the two computers together with normal networking cables. You will not need modems to do this just the networking card. Make sure that both computers are on the same workgroup. The ip ranges also have to be similar.

For more info look at,

okay, i just got a dell dimension e510 (not brand new) from a friend who couldn't fix the computer either. i got this PC about a month ago and always had the problems.. when i got it, it started rebooting by itself so i unchecked this so called "dont reboot after system error" option and started getting BSOD instead. BSOD such as "page fault error" and other random messages. i thought it was my ram so i did a test with memtest and it didnt detect any errors. i went out and bought a 1gb module and replaced my old ram. the BSOD stopped and its back to rebooting over again. sometimes it will reboot and end up in a loop.

what could it be? could it be overheating? i only have 3 fans in my system which are 2 fans in the power supply and 1 120mm CPU fan. i ran a program called "PC wizard 2008" and shows my hard drives are at 59c.

also, sometimes my PC will shut down and give a system beep message (1 long, 3 long, 2 long) and cant figure it out...

here is a download link to all my mini dumps that appeared in my minidump windows folder. maybe someone could analyze them for me?

thanks to all for helping me!

btw, my specs are:

80gb hard drive
pentium 4 3.0GHz
1gb ram
305 watt power supply
geforce 7600GT

i forgot to mention that when my friend had this computer the CPU fan died so he took it to a computer technician and he installed a new fan. the fan was a 122mm fan...

Hey, My PC started to freeze ever since i got it, i thought it could just live with it.. but i cant, ive had it about 2 months now because my old one's power supply blew and it was really old, with the new PC, it started to freeze (if you can call it that) when i played games, such as Counter Strike, and TF2, even old games like hitman 2 and on some occassions even when its on desktop, but enver on hitman bloodmoney ive installed new chipset drivers, graphics drivers and even installed a case fan because i thought it was a heating issue, the case fan greatly reduced the heat of my pc but still it didnt help me at all with the freezing issue, heres the specs of my PC

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9500 Socket AM2+
Motherboard: ASUSTeK M2N-MX SE plus
Chipset: Nvidia MCP61
Memory: 1GB DDR2
Powersupply: 450W
Videocard: Geforce 6150SE integrated 512MB

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Feel free to ask to any addition information, im willing to do whatever it takes.

A:Freezing PC, no idea whats wrong

well uhh, you have integrated graphics, and you're running a phenom. Usually when the pc just freezes and/or freezes and shuts off its a video or power issue.
