Q: HPDM replace self signed SSL certificates for HDPM Server an...

I am trying to replace the auto generated self-signed (Issued to DM, issued by DM) certificates for the HDPM Server and Master Repository. I am NOT refereeing to FTPS, the HPDM Embedded HTTPS Server, or the Thin Client Agent certs. I have already setup certs from our own domain internal CA for FTPS in IIS and the Apache Embedded HTTPS server. These are working fine and Repository tests pass for both protocols. I have also issues to the Thin Clients from our internal CA just fine. I'm interested in the actual HPDM Server cert and Master repository cert. These are self-generated when the two services start up. They use a very weak MD5 hash and RSA 1024 key. I cannot find any documentation around this except for troubleshooting in which you can delete these certs restart the services and they will be regenerated. Here are the certs\key paths%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Controller.crt (Repository Cert)%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Controller.key (Repository Key)%HPDM Install Path%\MasterRepositoryController\Client.crt (HPDM Server Cert)%HPDM Install Path%\Server\Bin\hpdmskey.keystore (Both HPDM Server and Repository Certs and Keys)(Not sure the format it is in. It's not PEM and ok P12 as far as I can tell) There is also %HPDM Install Path%\Server\bin\hpdmcert.key. Not sure what this is. Think it?s the HPDM Server key but deleting it does nothing and it is never auto re generated in any of my tests. I am able to replace the Controller.crt and key files with my own internal CA issued ones just fine. The service start and no error happen. However if I replace the Client.cert (HPDM Server Cert) with my own the service will start but there are SSL Socket errors in the repository logs and the HPDM Server can't connect to the Master Repository. I have no idea where the key file is supposed to be for HPDM Server Cert. Can anyone help with this? I can't find any config files either for the services to generate their own certs. If I did I would at least try to change the config to not uses MD5.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My guess would be firewall issue. On the server, check to make sure ports 1099,40002,40005,40006 & 40009 can get through. Especially port 1099 for the Remote Proceedure calls. On the PC running the remote Console, make sure ports 5500 & 40004 are open. I've attached a script that will open all ports needed for HP Device Manager. You can run this (as admin) on both the server and the console or edit for just the component that is needed.

I have written some VB code in Microsoft Word 2003 to make some day-to-day tasks quicker, and attached a self-signed certificate to allow me to bypass the Macro Security warning box.

I have now placed the Word template in a network location (on a domain, not a workgroup), so that colleagues can use it also. They are unable to trust the self-signed certificate (the tick-box is greyed out), and they have to click "Enable Macros" every time they open it.

Is there any way to allow them to bypass this security warning box, without setting their macro security level to low?

Thanks

Since auto-enrollment is not supported what is the best practice for ATA agent installations? While we know internal certificates typically are more secure, this seems counterproductive if you have to install a new cert when it expires and you have a large
number of DC's?

My questions --

1 -- Are there any plans to just move to self-signed as the default?
2 -- Will auto-enrollment be supported in the future?
3 -- What advantages does internal provide over self signed when it comes to ATA agent to ATA Center communications?

So I have IE7 on Vista. When I try to access the website http://webmail.freeshell.org I get an error "internet explorer cannot access the webpage". It should be saying that there's a problem with the certificate, and let you decide whether to go on. IE7 can open some other secure websites.I did a lot of surfing trying to figure it out. It seems like the problem is that this webpage has a self-signed certificate, and it's not signed using RSA algorithm, it uses SHA1.IE7 on Windows XP accesses the website fine. Apparently IE6 also works. I think this is the problem because I found the problem described online in 2 places, http://blogs.atlassian.com/developer/2007/...ta_and_ssl.htmland another atlassian.com website. I had tried a lot of suggestions I found online and none of them worked. I installed all the updates I've received from Microsoft. It's apparently a bug in IE7 on Vista. If anyone else has IE7 on Vista it might be interesting to see if you get the same error trying to get to this webpage. I have the version of IE7 that came with the "upgrade" to Vista. I wish I'd stuck with Windows XP. Laura

A:Ie7 On Vista Can't Handle Certificates Signed With Sha1

I get a "bad certificate" page with the option to ignore it and continue on to the page. Ignoring it lets me into the logon page.

Maybe you can turn off the IE protected mode?

I would like to replace working certificate for the localhost (127.0.0.1), with an end date in a few months. (Win10 - Edge - IE11)
I managed to create a certificate (made a copy form the previous one with Powershell), and imported it in the list of Trusted Root Certificates. I removed the previous certificate.

But Edge (and IE11 since I suppose Edge has no support for this yet) is still pointing to the old certificate.
Does anyone know how to make the browsers point to the new certificate?

So, like many of us who dont have resources to monitor every little detail of our network/infrastructure, and rely on products being self-sustaining, i did not know i would lose my ATA investment because a cert expired.  Where else does that happen?
How can there not be any kind of recovery option for ATA Admins if they didnt catch the cert renewal in time?
That said, since it already happened, it looks like my only option is to start over from scratch.  Does anyone have all the steps needed to remove my current ATA infrastructure completely, and then build a new one in its place?  I know where the
docs are for deploying a new ATA, but my scenario includes an existing, dead ATA deployment that cant be undone normally because i cant get into the system to "undo it".  I would appreciate any guidance on the best approach for removing an ATA
Center and two Lightweight Gateways (and anything else i've forgotten that i would need to know).  And then for starting over, is there anything i should know when about deploying a new ATA Center when an existing one was present.  Finally, is there
anything i can salvage from my dead ATA?
Thanks!

Hiya

The previous VeriSign 128-bit International (Global) Server Intermediate certification authority certificate expired on January 7, 2004. This may cause problems for clients that try to establish server-authenticated secure socket layer (SSL) connections with Web servers and other SSL/Transport Layer Security (TLS)-enabled applications that do not have up-to-date certificates.

To prevent these problems, Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) operators should contact VeriSign to update the intermediate certification authority certificates for servers that use 128-bit SSL to connect to Web sites with the Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

Hi All,
I will be deploying ATA 1.6 in our dev environment in the coming weeka and just needing a bit of help clearing up some detail with the "how-to" aspect of certificate generation. The environment I will be installing into is AD based with it's own
CA, so I won't be looking to use the self signed certs (unless someone can give me a good reason otherwise) and am wanting to get the certs provisioned from our own internal CA.
1. IIS certificate is easy, no problems here as I've done quite a few.
2. The Server Authentication template does not seem to be enabled within our environment, so I cannot use the Advanced Certificate Request form from the web portal as I can for the IIS CSR. I looked at generating a Server Authentication Certificate from
the certificates MMC, however I am getting lost under the Certificate Enrollement Policy page as policies configured by my administrator do not include a Server Authentication type.
I am getting the feeling I am going to need to either (a) get the Server Authentication template enabled or (b) generate a certificate template to facilitate this request. In either case I will need detail on what exactly is needed and why to get anything
like this approved. Can anyone help with more detailed/specific instructions on what needs to be done to generate the certificate here?
I guess the other option would be to use our internal CA for the IIS cert (trusted by all in the domain) and then use self signed for the ATA Center... Read more

My company has a client that's running Windows Server 2003 in his office. For legal reasons, we can't support his server for him, only the application that we installed on his server. Server maintenance has to come from his 3rd party people. I'm just curious though.

This application of ours connects to a secure site that our company maintains. Every couple weeks, the application stops logging in to our website and he calls us to get it fixed. We Webex to his server and always see the same error. We found that if we open up IE and enter the web address in the address bar, we get a prompt for the certificate. Our application doesn't have the ability to answer this "Yes", "No", "View Certificate" prompt. So we go through the process of installing the certificate. After that, the app works flawlessly for a couple weeks before he calls us again. It's stopped logging in. After we browse to the site and install the certificate again, everything's fine. He's nice but he's tired of having to call us everytime this expires.

He's the only client out of about 1900 that has this problem. He's also the only one AFAIK that's running our app on Server 2003. I was wondering if it's possible configure a Windows 2019 IIS v10 hosted Web Server to perform OCSP checking of client certificates that are used to authenticate?

It is my understanding that typically the Responder URL that the Web Server contacts in order to validate the client cert is extracted from the AIA attribute in the client certificate. But is it possible to override/supplement this with an additional Responder?

For instance, what if I set up an OCSP Responder in the same domain as the Web Server and associated its revocation configuration with the SUB CA binded to the IIS Site. Now if client certs come in for authentication  and have an unrelated OCSP Responder
in their AIA, can I somehow tell the Web Server to check also the aforementioned Responder that has been stood up in the domain?

A:OCSP Based Validation for Client Certificates Using Responder Defined by Web Server

Per a reply from Mark B. Cooper at PKI Solutions this is indeed possible. You must edit the following GPO in order to override the default behaviour of the web server which is to only check the Responder URL specified in the client certificates' AIA extension.
Default Domain Policy > Computer Configuration >  Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > expand Public Key Policies
Once a custom Responder is specified in the CA / SUB CA's revocation properties the above GPO will allow it to check that custom Responder URL first, then ocsp as defined in the AIA extension and then CRLs
Thanks Mark!

Will post reference links once MS verifies my account.

Currently we are on an NT network with a few 2000 servers tossed in. Today I learned that the plan is to migrate everything to Linux. Lets assume that this only applies to the servers and that the users will still operate with 98/nt/2000/xp. What are your thoughts on this?

I put this in this forum for a reason. Because I'd rather get the advice from 2000 and 2003 experts who know what Linux cannot replace than to hear the Linux fanboys and anti-Microsoft activists praise it to the high heavens.

What would your concerns be if this was done on your network? What problems have you encountered if you'd tried this? Or what successes? Know of any businesses that have done this successfully?

Couple of questions, primarily to the HPDM Guru, AKA Chen! I want to upgrade our HPDM database and DM to 4.7 on the latest SP, is there any reason why I can't go straight from 4.6 SP3? We currently have around 2,500 Thin Clients in our environment, we are very reliant on using HPDM to update and make changes to our Thin Clients. In light of this, I want a test server when I can go from 4.6 to 4.7 using a seperate database but having a few of our Thin Clients registered to that Device Manager, is this possible? Will having an additional Gateway cause problems? We currently using DHCP Options to specifiy the IP of the HPDM Server. Another question, say we manage to upgrade the DB and Device Manager to 4.7, will I need to update the Agents on the Thin Clients or is this just "best practice"? Thanks! Luke

Does anyone know how to reinstall the HPDM agent, usually native to a thin client, that has had it removed?  I cannot use the HP Windows Embedded 7E image from HP that we can download for these clients, and the image that I have available for the t620 has had the HPDM Agent removed from the system; it's no longer in the control panel. I have attempted to grab the agent files from the current HPDM server located in the repository, and though it loads quite a few files and looks good to go, the HPDM Server still does not see the system. Current Server is: HPDM 4.3 (will be upgrading to 4.7 once we're able to get this base system up and running) I have no error logs to give, since I believe the issue with the client not reporting to HPDM is the fact that it no longer has an agent installed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

>  HPDM 4.7SP5 on a windows 2012 R2 server for the first time.> get the following error "HP Device Manager 4.6 is not installed on this machine ..." My guess is that what you are trying to install is an "upgrader" -- it assumes that '4.6' is installed, and it updates a few components to the '4.7' level, i.e., it is not a "full" installer -- that assumes that NO previous version is installed. Did you download the wrong program -- "update" versus "full" ?

Hello, I have a HPDM server setup on a virtual machine. I have about 40 HPt520 thin clients as well. I disabled USB drives on all of the thin clients when I initially imaged them and it appears that I missed a few. I want to disable them for security reasons obviously. I know that I can do this in the registry. I changed the Start value to 4 (disabled) and the changes do not commit in HPDM. I tried using HPDM to create a task and modify the registry directly and this did not work. I also created another task that deploys the registry file on the local drive of the thin client and the executes it as a script with the command prompt. This did not work either. What I suspect is happening is that the thin client is executing the task and then windows overwrites the registry and none of the changes apply. How can I fix this? Thanks! [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USBSTOR]"Type"=dword:00000001"Start"=dword:00000004"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001"ImagePath"=hex(2):73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,44,00,\52,00,49,00,56,00,45,00,52,00,53,00,5c,00,55,00,53,00,42,00,53,00,54,00,4f,\00,52,00,2e,00,53,00,59,00,53,00,00,00"DisplayName"="USB Mass Storage Driver""BootFlags"=dword:00000004

Hi.How do I import for example a new Citrix Receiver from HP Support into HP device Manager ? I cannot find it under Template - Import - HP FTP Software Component BrowserOf cause I can deploy the file manually, but isnt there some way to import the package into HPDM correctly? I am running HPDM 4.6.3610.21251Thx

A:importing WES update into HPDM

You cannot import it directly if the package is not available on HP FTP software Component Browser. You may try using File & Registry task to deploy file and execute script to install it.

Hi,I'm attempting/preparing to push out a build to our T620 fleet.  I have explicitly configured a 'Task Deferment' task with custom message.  I put this task at the very start of my task sequence. When I push out the Task Sequence, I advise it to execute regardless of the write filter status, and I put a check in the box to 'Defer task before reboot or shutdown devices'. However, I'm never prompted to 'Postpone' or 'Reboot'.  The device simply reboots and begins building. HPDM 4.7

Hello! We use HPDM to manage our Thinclients. It runs in a little VM, and the images that we pull from the Thinclients eat up all the space there on C:\ So we wanted to change the Master Repository to be located on a NAS.We already have managed to have a Share as additional repository on that NAS.  But its not the Master one.How can we change that? We want the Master Repository to be on the NAS, so the VM where HPDM runs doesn't have to contain all those big Thinclient images. HPDM version is up to date. Thanks in advance!Regards!ND.

Hi, we've recently bought a few hundred t520 thin clients and whilst I have been able to use Device Manager 4.7 to lock most things down and image the clients I now need to lockdown the BIOS. Is this possible using Device Manager or do we have to do it on a client by client basis?
