I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to install Windows Server 2016 Datacenter (new installation) on a RAID 0 (Striped Drive). The RAID system (Hardware RAID; Gigabyte z390 D) is configured on two SSDs (1 TB each).

Windows installer detects the RAID-Drive (of about 2 TB) and can create partitions on the drive and format them normally. The installation, however, is not possible on this drive (windows can not be installed on this drive).
I tried to download the preinstall-RAID-drivers and add them to the installer using USB-stick but it does not solve the problem.
I am not sure whether I missed something at this point or even if this is possible to be acheived anyway.
I appreciate your help.
Best regards

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I count on your support.
I am currently trying to install Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition using Windows Deployment Services on two discs 136.12gb raid 1, but this will not let me because it says I need at least 150GB HDD to proceed with the installation, the same method is applied in virtualized machines in hyperv and Proxmox and does not throw me any error. (see attached image)
The server details are as follows:

Hello,

OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Storage: 1x SSD
Board: Supermicro X9SRW-f

Currently the SATA option in the BIOS is set to AHCI. Windows boots to the desktop without issue.

Objective: Convert AHCI to Raid mode. Use the onboard chipset to create a mirrored array with 2x SSDs.

I've downloaded the driver disc for this board and installed the Intel Rapid Storage driver/software. I reboot and change the SATA mode to Raid. Windows starts to load and immediately blue screens. Changing the SATA mode back to AHCI allows me to boot successfully.

There are a few other drivers from the disc. Installing these drivers causes Windows to no longer boot to AHCI or Raid mode.
iaStorA.inf : Installs RSTe AHCI Raid Controller Miniport + RTS Filter Driver
iaStorB.inf : Installs RSTe AHCI Raid Controller Miniport + RTS Filter Driver

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci (Start set to 0)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV (Start set to 0)

How can I turn on the raid option and get Windows to boot without error? Registry hack? Other drivers?

*Note the O.S. has been cloned to the SSD. I do not have the option to fresh install Windows.

At our office we have a Dell Poweredge 840 server that can handle 4 sata drives. There are two 160 gb internal harddrives hooked up to it. It is setup as raid 1.

Then there is an external 160 gb hdd which creates a backup of the server or disk 0 using novastor.

We want more hdd space. I am thinking of increasing the size to 500 gb of usable storage. That means that I need another 500gb hdd to for a raid backup and another for an external backup.

What setup can i use so that the 2 internal 160 gb hdd's that we do have does not go to waste.

Is this possible?: setting up the 2 internal 160gb hdds as raid 0. buying a 500gb hdd and setting up as raid 1 to mirror image the 2 160gb hdds. and then another 500gb as an external backup.

but this would mean that i would have to reformat the drives which has all our info on it and it is time i cannot lose.

How can i keep the 160 gb hdd that is being used on the server but add more hdd space and have it backed up with raid? if i add another hdd to the server, will this effect how Active Directory manages the users permissions as the added hdd will have more files on it which users will need access to. If i just set the added hdd as shared and give the specific rights to each user as it should be, will the server function properly this way?

Any and all suggestions will be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

A:Need to Change Out Raid Drives for Server

hum; haven't actually done what I'm about to suggest, but think it over.

First add the two 500gb and config as a new raid-1 (call this raid-B), get it formatted and then split
(remove) one of the drives.

Split the exist 160gb raid-1 (call this raid-A) by taking one drive off line. Move it to the new raid-B and
rebuild using the this drive to fill the new 500gb. When done, remove the 160gb hd
and reinsert the other 500gb and rebuild using the one already loaded.
Effect is to bring the new 500gb raid-B to be fully loaded from the 160gb contents from raid-A

do some homework here; Now you need to swap the definitions so that Raid-B takes
the place of Raid-A.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my problem.

After a reboot, one of the drives (which is really a mirrored raid set) mounted to a directory has disappeared. The raid controller (Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATA) in driver settings can see both individual drives but the logical drive doesnt appear in the drive listing in my Disk Management folder.

I've tried disabling the controller card, in the process of reloading the drivers...

I have edited these registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders

Also updated RDP client on winXP to 7.0 enviroment

The connection is not refused by any error (EventViewer is empty on both machines). RDP ask for credentials and then show message "Cant connect to the remote computer try it later"
Do you have any ideas how to solve it ?

Hey Guys,

I've got two 500 GB HDs in RAID 0 configuration which have been working perfectly. They contain all my music, movies and personal docs which I've collected over the years.

I have only just made this configuration as I was trying to speed my PC up. I'd recently cloned my C: onto a 7200 rpm HD and while I was doing this I joined the spare HD that resulted to another one I had in the machine in RAID 0 and after a lengthy process of copying files back and forward from laptop drives etc I now had a perfecty working PC with a faster c: drive and faster storage area for my non-windows files (d: in RAID 0 - 930 GB).

Then, last night I get a windows update for a SATA controller. I install it thinking nothing of it, rebooted the pc and now my RAID drive is not recognised. It doesn't show up in My Computer or in Computer Management. I hoped this was just a driver issue. So I went into device manager and looked at all the SATA controller driver properties and there was only one (RAID controller) with the option to roll back - so I rolled this driver back and it made no difference. My RAID drive is not registering with windows.

When I boot the computer, after BIOS is finished doing its thing I get a RAID utility come up and it says my RAID configuration is healthy so I'm guessing (and praying!!!!) that it's just a driver issue and that it can be resolved without me loosing a whole heap of important (important to me) files.

Hey guys, I've got an MSI Neo3-F mainboard with the JM363 RAID enabled. I was able to install windows 7 ultimate with no problem, but now I've removed another hard drive (not part of the raid) and need to run fixmbr. The problem is recovery console won't see my RAID. If I try to load driver, I get "The installation has failed" even though it identifies the RAID controller after selecting the driver. Just to be double sure, I went back into the install and it loads the driver and can see my windows install. I'm trying with R1.17.55 version because that's what I used originally, but I've tried older and newer versions. Any thoughts on how to get the driver loaded OR run fixmbr a different way?

Thanks.

I read that MBSA (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/mbsa-removal-and-guidance) only supports up to Windows Server 2012R2.

I needed to install .NET 3.5 on Server 2016 but have hit all of the roadblocks and need help. Here is what I have tried so far...

I tried to add the feature via the server manager but it ended with code 0x80070002. I did have to provide a path to the sources\sxs folder for the cab file which I expected but that didn't help.I tried using the DISM powershell command to add the feature, both using the source location and also using /All so that it downloads the files from Windows Update. The end result was the same as #1 attempt - 0x80070002.I made sure all updates for the OS have been applied and that updates for 'other Microsoft products' was checked. this made no change in the error.I checked the installed packages via powershell and it shows 3.5 as removed, which again is expected for Server 2016 as they intentionally left it out but provided the cab file in the install media.I have executed a clean sfc /scannow with no errorsI have run a clean dism package commandI have tried installing under a fresh admin user profileI have researched for around 3 hours on the forums so I look forward to the various input
I have uploaded both the DISM and CBS logs. I started fresh with both logs so they contain only details related to a single attempt t install via the server manager.

Dear IT Pros,
I have 2 questions that need your help and professional advice.
1) Does Microsoft has a tool to check whether a patch (KB) was superseded by another KB? In my case, I'm trying to search whether this KB4022715 and KB4025339 (both of this KB was released in 2017) was superceded
by another KB. This is because a security consultant has advised us to install both of this KB to prevent vulnerabilities but since it was released back in 2017, I suspect there must be a newer KB that supercedes it
2) Can advice what KB I need to download regarding this 2 bulletin ID CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2019-11135? Can't seem to find it after much googling

Hi Everyone,

I've recently had some trouble installing a RAIDO disk configuration under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (see my 3rd reply here Help Needed....BSOD during Windows 7 Installation suspect that the drivers aren't quite Windows 7 "compatible", and are responsible for the problems.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows whether there are updated Windows 7 x64 drivers available for the Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/PO/PCH SATA RAID Controller distributed by Gigabyte? I've googled and searched the Gigabyte website, but I can't find the same files as shown on the original CDROM in the attached image.

These files are from late 2009, and I wonder if there has been an update that might fix the issues I have. This is for a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P Rev.1.0 motherboard.

My motherboard is an MSI P67a-GD65 (B3) with a Marvell SATA 6G controller on it. I use that controller to mirror a pair of 1TB drives.

When I go to install windows 8 (technet RTM\Final version) or even after I do install Windows 8, the inital boot screen will take about 3 1/2 minutes to load. I can see my USB keyboard go from power on to pwered off, then finally back on. Windows 8 will then continue the install or after the install, pop-up with a screen asking me which OS I want to boot.

So even after a full install, I load all the drivers, everytime I reboot the system I have to wait 3 1/2 minutes for it to even offer me the option screen of which OS to boot to. Just the windows symbol and the Circle dots rolling around.

I unplugged everything possible and disabled different intergrated components until I found out that it was the on-board raid controller that was causing the delay. With it disabled. Windows brings up the boot option instantly.

Just for a test, since I was dual booting and wonder if the Windows 7 boot sector was the problem, I took out the SSD drive and put in a standard SATA drive and performed a clean install. Same results, with the Marvel controller enabled, Windows will just sit and poll for 3 1/2 minutes every time it is booted.

I've upgraded the motherboard's bios to a bios thay was released July 26th 2012 (version 4.20). No change.

Any idea what it's polling for and why it's hanging ? Any possible BCDEDIT options to tell it not to poll ?

Thanks... Read more

So, this seems to be isolated to Windows 7.

Hi, we are becoming more and more frustrated with the forced windows updates. These may help home users but professional products like servers are not for everyday users and sometimes require alot of configuration to get legacy applications to work.
Windows will at times force updates no matter what we choose in respect to disable them. It is NOT up to Microsoft to determine if or when the servers I am responsible for need to be patched. Any reading and research we have done here has only yielded the
ability to prolong the updates. Once installed over 50% of the servers give an endless spinning circle and require restore or rebuild, this has become unacceptable and has forced us to start testing our applications with different Linux flavors.

Is there a way to STOP the updates indefinitely?

nmcap.exe /network "<interfacename>" /DisableLocalOnly /capture SNAP.EtherType == 0x2000 /StopWhen /TimeAfter 2 min /file "<filename>.cap"

With MMA, I can just do a filter for LLDP, and get the same information, at least on my Windows 10 laptop that is.  When I run a capture either locally on a Windows 2016 server, or remotely against
a Windows 2016 server there are no LLDP packets captured.

Am I doing something wrong?

This is a problem that just recently popped up out of no where. One day upon startup two new pieces of hardware were found on my computer. I get prompted to install the drivers for a Raid Controller and a Multimedia Audio Controller.

Each day I cancel them and my computer runs just the same as it always does. It my Device Manager these two items show up in the "? Other devices" tab alongside a SM Bus Controller (which never prompts me to install so it doesn't really bother me).

Just wondering what these devices are, where they came from, and what I should do to solve the problem.

Thanks.

They are probably onboard devices you can disable them in the bios. You need to check your manual; each bios is a little different as to where the items in question are located.

One more question; do you have an add-on sound card and does your systems sound work ok?

I am trying to add Windows 10 clients to Windows Server essentials 2016. It seem that in order for the server to see the clients I must the clients join the server server Domain. (Currently they are in a workgroup).

It looks like one has to change the Windows10 clients to access the WSE-2016 DNS. So in windows 10 I go to networks, bring up the adaptor setting. Bring up "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IvP4) and instead of "Obtain the DNS address automatically" change it to always get the DNS address on the WSE-2016 (found with ipconfig).
Then within Windows I use ?System?, ?about?, and Join the server DOMAIN. It now works. The client can now see the Server domain.
I can then see the Server files and the server can see the Windows 10 shared files.
There are still problems however.
When I reboot the Windows 10 client. I have a brand new user screen with only some of my original desktop icons showing. Do I have to essentially rebuild up everything on my desktop again!
Question: Is there not a way to have my original desktop appear when I am joined to the Domain.
Second, since there will be times when the server is off I used the router static DNS IP address as the alternative address in the above dialog box of the Windows10 clients. Seems to work since the client can access the internet even with the WSE 2016 off.
Here is my second question. I have a few home laptops as well. If I force the DNS to the server what happens when I travel. ... Read more

I have just succeeded in hooking my Windows 10 client to Windows Server Essentials 2016. To do this I had to switch the W10 from a Workgroup to Domain setup.
All works fine except most of the desktop items originally on the client icons disappeared. Worse when I launce things like Outlook, Word etc. I have to initialize it from scratch.
How does one get all the settings, desktop icons etc. to re-appear on this new account that is now chanced from a Workgroup to a Domain setting.
I am an administrator (and only user) on both the W10 and WSE-2016. I see under users my original name on the W10/Workgroup and a new name. The new name does not have many files in it. I assume that?s the problem. But when I copy stuff from the old name folder across the programs are still not initialized correctly.
