Sandboxie updates: Latest versions

Q: Sandboxie updates: Latest versions

Version 4.18
Released on 28 May 2015.
A security hole with the Windows print spooler has been plugged. An application could use the print spooler to write an arbitrary file outside the sandbox. If Sandboxie detects that the print spooler is attempting to write a file outside the sandbox at the request of a sandboxed application, it will issue "SBIE1319 Blocked spooler print to file".
NOTE: Some printer drivers write temporary files to their own work area, even when not printing to file. In these cases, you will get SBIE1319 even when printing normally (not to file). The print may still print successfully. In this situation, you can safely ignore SBIE1319, hide the error message, or open the folder as described below.

There are 3 ways to allow the print spooler to print to file:

1) If you trust the process that is printing, you can double-click the SBIE1320 (that follows SBIE1319) to allow the print spooler to write files outside the sandbox for that particular process. 2) The spooler can write files outside the sandbox according to OpenFilePath settings. This enables you to permanently open the folders a particular printer driver uses to store its work files. 3) You can manually add the setting AllowSpoolerPrintToFile=y to sandboxie.ini. This is not recommended as it leaves your sandbox open to a print spooler exploit.
Any error msgs generated when auto-deleting a sandbox will now be shown to the user.

Fixed Chrome SBIE2205 Service not implemented: Win32Init.5 (00000005)

Added Hitman Pro Alert to templates.ini

Changed hook for ChangeDisplaySettingsEx() to allow CDS_RESET. A user reported that a game (fifa15) is trying to use this and failing resulting in incorrect display colors.

Distributed File System (DFS) mapped drives are now supported (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=18825&p=100656)

VMWare HGFS (Host Guest File System) mapped drives are now supported.

A BSOD bugcheck reported by a user when using bittorrent has been removed (this was a rare situation). SbieDrv was detecting corrupted memory when no corruption had occurred.

Fixed a rare bug in clipboard handling that could crash SbieSvc.

WebEx running under Chrome would sometimes hang.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Greetings BC forum members and moderators! I have a Lenovo B5AIO Ideacentre running Windows 8.1 Pro. I have always had the free 2015 version of AVG anti-virus and I routinely scan all my computers with CCleaner and MalwareBytes (free version). For the past month or 6 weeks, I have had a constant problem with 64-bit Sandboxie crashing and also the 64-bit Chrome browser that I typically use. I have poured over the Sandboxie forums but none of the handful of recommendations have solved these problems. I suspect that this workstation may be infected, but nothing obvious has emerged.  I am our household's IT admin, and my wife and children also have web-enabled accounts on this machine.

MalwareBytes has always returned a negative result in the past, but upon reading some advice in this forum I ran it with rootkit checked, and it returned the following log with over 600 objects found!:

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

A:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

Hello everyone.
It seems Qihoo 360 products has a lot of bugs lately and i explain what i mean:

INTERNET SECURITY:
- Real time protection seems to work good AFTER 2-3 system restart.
- I've test 360IS with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Removal speed is very slow and guess what..........during removal there is a possibility to get BSOD!!!
360 IS detected all samples but I got my first BSOD when i was trying to remove those samples found here:
http://malwaretips.com/threads/expl...ped-files-2015-02-24.42775/page-2#post-353653
TOTAL SECURITY:
King of bugs
- I've test it with sandboxie or browser in Comodo sandbox and it doesn't detect anything (only on demand scan)
- Web protection doesn't work on Mozilla or Mozilla based browsers.
- Everytime i wanted to add a program to whitelist or open the sandbox window to erase active programs Total Security was stop responding
- Memory usage was stuck on 200 - 240MB (with BD engine active only)
- Be careful of ''system optimization'' tool as it found windows system restore unnecessary and it prompt me to disable.......

Until all these fixed i will use another Vendor.

Pale Moon 26.1.0 has been released, which is an update we've been working on to solve the vast majority of issues popping up after the first milestone releases. We would appreciate it, if you've reported an issue with v26.0 on the forum before, that you actually re-visit your topic and let us know if you are still experiencing issues with the new update, but especially also if this has solved your issue so we can close the relevant topics as solved.Release notes http://www.palemoon.org/releasenotes.shtml Changes/fixes:

Disabled our ES6 Promise implementation introduced in 26.0 since there were some severe issues with its implementation that caused a lot of inexplicable failures on websites. This means that some sites that insist on using Promises without checking availability and that do not provide sufficient web client compatibility by way of server-side libraries or polyfills will currently not work as-intended. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause; providing a perfectly-working implementation will be our top priority going forward.
Improved website compatibility with many sites and web applications by making our cookie gate less strict.Webmasters please note: it is strongly recommended you follow RFC6265 section 4.1.1 for cookie values, and encode arbitrary cookie content (e.g. JSON data) with a compatible encoding like base64.

Using 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro with an automatically updated Firefox, currently version 40.0.2.

Start up Firefox and...nothing. Check Process Explorer and see Firefox is there. Try to start up TCPview and...nothing. Decide to go back to Process Explorer and kill off Firefox - before I get that far - SHAZAAM! - TCPview starts, Firefox responds with browser window - all as it should be.

This has been the behavior for awhile now, admittedly intermittently but none-the-less a relatively new bad behavior.

And the REAL problem is hinted at by that TCPview issue up above - Firefox is freezing the whole system solid after a moment or two (Process Explorer can be run within that moment and displays dynamic results, windows can be switched to, but new processes (minimal testing) apparently cannot be started in a timely manner).

There are other complaints around the 'Net noting this type of behavior.

So...anyone know the reason for such powerful failure? (this should slow Firefox itself, not the entire system)

A:Latest couple Firefox versions slow/freeze whole system

Quick followup - this may be an Avast problem, not a Firefox problem, based off of searching for symptoms on the 'Net.

SANDBOXIE INTERNALS REDESIGNED IN VERSION 4

The 64-bit edition of Windows 8 introduces a new version of the Kernel Patch Protection (PatchGuard) component, which limits Sandboxie v3 in establishing some of the kernel hooks that it needs in order to fully supervise programs.

To ensure a high level of sandbox isolation on Windows 8 and future versions of Windows, and to mitigate the risk that a future update to Windows 7 will include the new PatchGuard, and break compatibility with Sandboxie, version 4 introduces a change in the way Sandboxie works under the hood.

In version 4, Sandboxie is designed to not rely on unofficial hooks into the kernel. (A few such hooks are still in use on Windows XP.) Instead, a program under the supervision of Sandboxie v4 runs with no permissions and cannot access or manipulate objects in the system outside the program's own memory. (This restricted security context can be seen by looking at a process in the sandbox using Process Explorer.)

Sandboxie 4 on 64-bit Windows removes the Experimental Protection feature, and no longer has to suggest use of Drop Rights option.

Minimum Windows Version

Features in the Windows kernel which guarantee that a program cannot improve its own set of permissions are only available starting with Windows XP SP 2, with additional security features in Windows Vista.

Sandboxie v4 officially supports Windows XP SP 3, Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, and W... Read more

So I successfully installed a total of 20 Windows updates for my Windows 7 x64 installation on Tuesday 11, 2014. I think 18 of them were "important" and 2 were "recommended" for x64 systems.

Now I have received four additional update notifications through Windows Update, one at a time. I installed the first without giving it much thought, after which I was asked to reboot. Everything seemed fine after reboot until I tried my Firefox browser, it looked all wrong and I could no longer read any of the menu headings. It was essentially non-functional. Then I tried Internet Explorer 11. It simply failed with an error window indicating that it could not start and it was checking for a solution to the problem.

So then I tried to uninstall the update, and I receive a message that an error occurred and the un-installation was unsuccessful. So then I restored Windows from an image file I had just made, and all was well again of course.

When this update came back through Windows Update, I researched it a bit and was surprised to find that it was from 2012. Now it is possible that I missed an important or recommended update, but I know I've checked Windows Update numerous times between 2012 and now, and this never showed up before. I also doubt that I missed an important or recommended update since they are selected by default, and I don't deviate from that. But I didn't verify since I couldn't find an easy way to search the 100+ updates installed on my m... Read more

A:Is it ok to delete old versions of updates

If you are talking about updates in general...I've always considered them to be cumulative...that is one update does not replace a prior update, it builds upon it.

I've never considered uninstalling any update, be it to a program or drivers or Windows...based on that premise.

As for java and flash updates...they are a tad different in that they are cumulative, with the preceding versions needing to be uninstalled/replaced. Usually, that's part of the installation process performed by the new version...that's the way that I interpret those.

I don't know anything about updates issued by Toshiba, I have no proprietary/OEM systems other than a Samsung laptop which I seldom use.

Hi all, I was recently given a laptop to reinstall Windows 7 on to and for some unknown reason once it does the first set of Windows updates it very quickly blue screens on load up and keeps rebooting doing the same thing each time. I tried reinstalling it with the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit version and it just does the same thing after that's updated too. The BSOD is so quick you literally wouldn't see it if you blinked.

It works absolutely fine until it updates and then this happens, I've tried reinstalling it several times but times but getting nowhere.

Does anyone have ideas how I can find out what's going on and how to stop this happening? It also blue screens before it loads into Safe Mode too. Really annoying

Just to add, I've replaced the memory and even the hard drive. Same thing occurs!

A:Toshiba A300D BSOD after updates on both 64 and 32 bit versions of Win

I managed to tap F8 and disable the automatic shut down and now the BSOD stays on the screen without instantly rebooting.

Here is a photo of the BSOD.

It seems to me that I have a lot less updates now that I am using windows 7 premium 64 bit... I never had windows vista... I used xp pretty much right up until Jan 2011... it seems to me like the version of windows I am using now (7 premium 64 bit has way less updates than xp professional had... does anyone know if this is true that this version of windows has needed less updates?

A:Does windows 7 premium 64 bit have less updates than previous versions

Ummm...Windows XP is almost a 11 years old...of course it has had more updates. o.o
Windows 7 is barely 3 years old.

i have 2 profiles, one on firefox version 24 for a few reasons, download window, old school search bar, faster
another profile is latest version of firefox for newer viewing compatibility, which I sometimes use chrome too if both firefox doesn't work.

issue is, on firefox 24, its faster compared to latest versions of firefox (even on clean profile) and to reproduce issue is rather simple. don't maximize window and drag firefox window around the screen and watch CPU usage spikes up.

for firefox 24 the usage doesnt go up at all but on latest versions of firefox (pretty much anything after ffox 26) if drag the window around for even 5sec CPU usage will spike like crazy, like its trying to render graphic or something with CPU. for both versions I have hardware acceleration disabled already so I don't think its that.

anyone know whats going on?

Has anyone else had problems since the latest update to W10?
I have a network of 3 W10 computers sharing files etc but since the last updates all my network settings have been trashed and I can't get the computers to communicate with each other. This isn't the first time updates have caused this problem but this time changing the network sharing settings etc hasn't fixed the problem.

I have spent hours this morning with the latest set of updates. The installation went to 59% then hung for a long time before going to restarting. Restarting never progressed further. After trying physical restarts a couple of times I finally managed to achieve failure to config updates and reversion to previous set-up.

I have since set updates to manually install and made a recovery disk using Paragon Hard Disk Manager. The question is what do I do now?

As background I had enormous problems in getting W8 installed. I started from XP which failed, after installing Vista two times I finally managed a successful installation. There is one visible trace of all this in that when I start up I am offered 2 choices of OS to boot with. Both are for W8 but only 1 works; the 2nd brings me back to the OS choice screen. Would deletion of 2nd boot option help and if so how do I delete it?

The one thing I've notice with the MS updates in windows 8 is that it does seem to take longer vs MS updates in windows 7. One should never do anything until the updates are completed, if not you take the risk of causing some seriou system damage.

How did you install windows 8, upgrade or clean install?

Well, here we go ... again.  I had 2 "Important Security" updates today:

1) "Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7 - This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

2) "Update installs Get Windows 10 app in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 - This update installs the Get Windows 10 app, which helps users understand their Windows 10 upgrade options and device readiness. For more information about Windows 10, see Windows 10."
"This update applies to Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Internet Explorer 11 (IE11). Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section."

Other than deceiving us with the overall description "Important Security" updates, it's obvious that these are really Win 10 'preppers' .  I also still have the last week's "optional" updates that were discussed at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/587305/new-optional-updates-on-82115/ regarding Telephony Tracking (I voted no).  They remain uninstalled.

Back to today's deception :  It is apparent that MS will go to 'no ends' to force Win 10 down our throats.  IMO we should be offered an 'update' that will opt-out of the nonsense.  Something that tells them to BACK OFF!

Anyone had fun today with 10 updates?

They went into my pc this morning and since then its taken me an hour and a half to get to the point where I can type this.

The pc booted up, no image. Had to reset to default Samsung flat screen to get it to come 'alive'. Then the error bleeps began in earnest and no stopping. tried and retired cables, no difference, unplugging port box, and re plugging in, no change. Mouse not working.

I changed keyboard from logitech to MS 1.0a MM board, still bleeping. Removed usb connect for logitech. Turned off and restarted, bleeping for about 5 mins - then suddenly it stopped.

Update: Restored an Acronis Image back to a week ago and it still is messed up, so not windows update problem. I set to turn off display after 1 minute or set the screensaver to 1 minute, they both work fine. It's only after I try to add minutes to either one that neither one will work. Anyone know if the updates released on Tuesday require SP1 to be installed beforehand as a prerequisite? Similarly, if these latest updates are installed now (without SP1) will it cause problems if SP1 is installed later?

I have all the updates prior to SP1, so I don't feel like SP1 will really give me much, and I've seen enough posts of people with problems after installing SP1 I'm in no hurry to download/install it. But I still want to apply critical updates as they come out.

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue but after the recent patch run by MS this week we are getting a high proportion of users unable to access internet explorer (all versions) on Windows 7 machines.
The error displayed is
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
attempt to access invalid address
This happens when trying to run Internet Explorer short cuts or iexplore.exe directly. I have had a searched around and given the number of users that with the issue I'm surprised if not found more info
Any feedback appricated

A:attempt to access invalid address error after June 2014 updates (All IE Versions)

Right I think we have actually fixed the issue after some research, by changing the registry key below
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages

If you set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.

Once PC has restarted IE then works. I sure there is some combination of programs / IE that's causing the issue. I found this fix as a solution to an Adode Reader issue but with the similar symptoms

Hope this helps someone

How can I install ALL latest updates all in one go.
Like download a big file from Microsoft.

Also, I've got a Windows 7 PC.
It's taking absolutely ages installing updates.
Reboot. Then more updates.
All done? Yes. No m ore updates.
Then check for updates - oh... there's now 950MB worth of critical updates.

There MUST be a shortcut?
(If needed, I don't mind wiping everything on the PC.)

I recently installed the latest XP Updates and then found that the following two keep wanting to be installed again:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB98216)
And:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)

The yellow shield appears again and again after I've installed these updates! Every time it confirms they have been installed, yet it's been SIX times now and it even states on the Microsoft Updates page under 'Installed Updates' that they have been installed successfully! Yet it still says I have to install them!

Now, I have 'Hidden' these 'Updates' as I am sick and tired of seeing the shield!

Hi, I usually read here before updating. After reading here recently, I'm concerned about problems I may have with these latest updates.

I have had this used computer from ebay for 6 or so months and done all the updates 3 or 4 times. The one update with a problem, a month or two back, I got the answers here of how to update one at a time saving the specific problematic update til the last.

So, I use W7 Ultimate on a 2007 Toshiba Satellite. I do the HD drive cleaning, check HD, and defrag on regular basis. I clean IE9 "delete browsing history" weekly if not more.

I guess what I need to do is create a newer restore and reapair DVD disc, before attempting these lastest updates. My question for the experts here, is do you have any advice for me, besides my plans to create newer restore and repair discs?

I guess I'm likely to have some of the problems others have here. I dunno. Rybo

Just a couple of questions if I may to make sure I'm understanding things. I'm confused by your reference to a "restore and repair DVD disc". A "restore" disk (also called a "recovery" disk) is usually provided by a computer manufacturer. It allows you to restore your computer to factory specifications so your computer would be exactly how it was when it left the factory. This kind of disk normally isn't updated to a newer version.

Or were you referring to a "restore point" which is something you could create before attempting to install the latest Windows Updates? If the updates don't install correctly or if they give you problems, you could restore your machine back to a pre-update condition.

System Restore Point - Create

System Restore

On the other hand, were you talking about a System Repair Disk? This kind of disk simply allows you to access various repair functions that are built into Windows 7. This is normally a one-time creation and it doesn't need to be updated. If the disk became scratched or otherwise damaged, that's about the only time you'd have to create a new disk. The Repair Disk is absolutely n... Read more

Hi:
I updated my desktop and a laptop on Saturday - the desktop runs x64 on an AMD quad platform, the laptop runs x32 on an Intel Duo platform.
Sunday morning both machines, for the first time in years, went into BSOD frenzies, reporting all sorts of weird and wonderful problems, blaming hardware, then blaming software, then blaming hardware again and so on.
Rolled both back to pre-update states, removed AV software and ran a number of diagnostics and so on, returning some semblence of stability to the machines, but am still getting nasty blue shocks, often on startup.
I have avoided trying to boot after a hiberation -- turned it off on both machines -- and that seems to have helped somewhat.
Sorry for the long-windedness, but I wondered if anyone else has had a recent spate of BSODs.
I would ordinarily just it put it down to a random probem, but two previously solid machines on two different platforms seems more than coincidence.
I ran compete antivirus scans on both and have so far discovered nothing out of the ordinary.
Thanks for any help,
dg

Hi

Since the latest round of updates my laptop has no sound & the sound diagnostics seems to think I have no speakers plugged in!

Looking at the properties of my sound card - it seems to have been updated on 16/8 when I switched my laptop on following the updates.

Anyone had the same problem or got any ideas which of the updates I need to uninstall.

Many thanks

Hi mich, a quick Google search suggests that Opera and gmail don't get along very well and that didn't start today. (Don't switch to Chrome because it will end support for Vista in April.) Have you tried this:

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies, open All Cookies and Sites Data then Remove all, restart Opera.

Anyone experiencing computer problems after installing latest Microsoft updates? After installing the updates and then opening IE 11 and proceeding to a website, the computer froze. Shut down the computer and then rebooted. The same thing occurred again. Decided to uninstall the updates. Performed the same procedures again. This time the computer opened more quickly and it did not lock up. Then determined to install just two updates: KB3141092 and KB3134814. Logged off and restarted. The computer did not malfunction. All of the above was performed yesterday.

Today it was decided to just install a few of the updates that were uninstalled yesterday to determine which might be causing the lock up problem. The following updates were installed:

KB3122648, KB3127220 and KB3115858

The computer was restarted and IE opened. This time IE was slower in opening, which indicated to me that the lock up might occur. It did. Went back and uninstalled the 3 updates and restarted the computer. Again, everything seems to be functioning as it should. No lock up.

Any comments?

Apart from few games, just couple of days ago, I installed VLC player APP and it's pretty good although with less options than in desktop version. It's good enough for fast opening of MM files so I made it as default player.
AS Fluorescence Canvas is another one but didn't explore it fully yet.
