I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Ran the update, computer rebooted. none of the info displayed during the reboot/update process indicated there were any errors. When Windows started again, it ran FWLINBRDG automatically. This one shows the following error: I don't think I have the HDD password enabled. Where would I check for that? Or is this error unrelated to the HDD password (which I am not sure is set)?

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
Is there a way to download the older firmware? I've been searching, but I can't find any older versions.
My laptop has crashed 3 times this morning. While it could be related to something else, the firmware was the most recent change on the laptop.

I downloaded the factory image from Dell and will try to install it now and test if it makes any difference.

Do the T460s and T460p use the same motherboard? I ask because there is an option for a  "1 TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe" on the T460s, but not yet showing on the T460p. I also wonder who makes this drive, and can we add it to our existing T460p? That was one thing I had wished for (more space than the highest option 512GB SSD) when odrering the T460p, but it wasn't available on this unit.

I have a T470. I took out the main sata ssd drive from the main drive bay. There is nothing in there. That is the way I want it. I put a Lexar NM520 M.2 2242 512GB NVMe Solid-State Drive in the WWAN port. I imaged that drive. I can boot to it. I don't know exactly how as it is not listed in the bios as a boot device, but it does boot to it. I assume it has something to do with it being NVMe and not SATA in the WWAN port. My problem is that before it boots to the WWAN m.2 NVMe drive it produces a boot error for the main drive missing. The error states MAIN DRIVE not found, esc to continue. Which requires me to push the escape button to continue booting. That is a problem for me. Is there any way to disable this main drive check? I know there is no main drive in that bay, obviously. I called lenovo consumer support and it was like talking to someone who had never heard of a computer before. Very frustrating.

A:T470 m.2 2242 Nvme WWAN as primary OS boot drive - error from missing main drive

That slot is specified as SATA with no mention of NVMe support.  It's surprising (to me...) that it boots.  I'd be concerned that some future BIOS update would remove the ability to boot.

My _guess_ is that a SATA drive would solve the error - but that's just a guess.  I have a bootable SATA m.2 drive in my T25 - which shares  the internals with the T470.  It's in the shop at the moment.  I may need to open it and will try to run a test when I can - but can't say when that might be.

I just read a bit about this because I bought an M4, with v0309. Latest is v000F.
Some people had problems. Google how to see what version you have from within Windows.
It's basically click on computer, right click the M4 drive, properties, hardware, select the M4 drive, properties, details, then select hardware id from the fropdown list. You'll see your version repeated 3 times there.
I decided not to update because I don't see benefits in the update. I'll look closer later.
People who had similar issue as you seemed to have a good update.
Look at the Crucial site for more details.

I recently bought a SSD (Solid State Drive) it is a Samsung 64GB. My computer is an Asus with an i5 Processor.

Anyway I know the SSD works fine because currently I have Ubuntu downloaded on it, running just fine. For some reason however, Windows 7 is not detecting my drive. Under my computer, or upon booting from a disk, it will not detect it. The reason I am wanting to detect it, is because I would like to backup windows 7 onto my SSD and boot from there.

If anyone has ANY suggestions or advice please feel free to post. I have tried just about all I know, and read several forums.

Hello,

When I was running Windows 7, my system had a small solid state C drive that did not have enough space for windows 10 upgrade. I got a larger 2TB regular hard disk and used the manufacturer's software to clone the old Windows-7 SSD C drive to the new 2TB and then upgraded to Windows 10.

Now under windows 10, when go into defrag, the C Drive shows as a Solid State drive and of course windows does not want to optimize it.

The new drive definitely is not SSD. I assume somehow that setting was cloned from the old disk.

Is there either a way to change the C drive to a regular "hard disk drive" or force windows to defrag what it thinks is a SSD?

Thank you in advance.

A:Windows Misidentifies C Drive as Solid State Drive - cannot defrag?

You might want to start by looking in Device Manager (right click Start and select Device Manager) and seeing how that disk drive is identified. Does it show as the SSD?

Can someone run me through the steps involved in doing so? Do I need to format the SSD? I was going to break it into 2 partititions of 150GB and 100GB and put the old drive as an archive after.

Thanks,

A:Fresh Windows 7 Install to New Solid State Drive

A backup disc is meant to be used to basically repair the operating system when it is needed.  It is not an installation disc.

I would suggest that you call HP and tell them that you have replaced the hdd and need the installation and driver discs.  They usually will send these to you for free.  if there is a charge it usually isn't very expensive.

I have a Thinkpad T520 (4239) that I just upgraded to Windows 8. I was not able to upgrade from a DVD; I had to use a USB flash drive to upgrade. I'm thinking maybe the problem was that the HLDS GT33N DVD drive did not have the latest firmware; it looks like its firmware version is LT20. On the Lenovo Drivers and Software page for the T520, there is a DVD Firmware Update Utility for Windows XP, Vista, 7 (fwsb10.zip). The README does not mention Windows 8. Can the utility be used on Windows 8? If not, when will a utility for Windows 8 be available? Thanks.

If you do try it I would run it in Windows 7 Compatibility mode. The chances are higher that it will work. I have the same 4239 but a different DVD drive, Sony model and never release new firmware for it. I don't see why that would prevent you from reading a DVD it burned or OEM pressed DVD.

Today, I noticed that my USB-C docking station was no longer passing video from my T470 to my monitor. The monitor's HDMI cable is plugged into a docking station that is connected to my T470 via USB-C. It's been working fine for more than a year. All other connectivity via the docking station works (e.g., keyboard, mouse, ethernet, power). The docking station, including video, works just fine with another (non-Lenovo) PC. My first thought was to check Lenovo Vantage or the support website for Thunderbolt software and/or firmware updates. The most recent software is several months old and already installed on my machine. I can see that there's a relatively recent firmware update on the website, but it's specifically for Windows 10 1809 or older. I am running 1903. When trying to install that firmware update, I receive an error message (can't find suitable bin file). Vantage does not find any updates for me to install. I did see this post, which mentions HDMI output not working as a symptom (among others). However, it recommends the Thunderbolt software that has been installed for several months as well as the firmware that I cannot install. I have two questions:Is anyone else having problems with HDMI output via their T470 USB-C/Thunderbolt port?Is there any news on when there will be a new T470 Thunderbolt firmware update for Windows 10 versions newer than 1809?

I was wondering, with 400 Dolars to spend on HDs, which one do i choose?
I will never use more than 500 GB, which i think is too much.
And i wanted a fast drive, like an SSD.
But i heard that SSDs have a short-life, and they're speed are decreased according to its age.

So, what would be better?
Buy 4x 250 GB 7200 RPM HDs and make Raid 4

Or 1x 128 SSD and a 500 GB for storage

I read that only some of the 17" laptops come with two drive bays. I checked and my 17" laptop does have two drive bays.

I'm no expert, but I've read and have been told heard this a noticable performance gain.

Inside it can be used as primary or secondary. Outside the computer it might only be able to be used as data storage but I'm not 100% sure.

This is either an issue with formatting a new Solid State Drive or something related cloning data and setting up windows 7 on the SSD. The plan was to run the OS off the SSD.

First, I now know I forgot to format the SSD before cloning...but it think it may have happened automatically because the clone process seems to have worked...sort of. The bad...it took up 2/3's of a 250GB SSD...not good. So I thought why not start over, delete everything on the SSD, format it and try a clean install from my windows 7 upgrade disc. Did that and it work better...just a small amount of the SSD was used....but...

But now, with just the SSD plugged in, am getting an error at boot up..."No boot manager" and boot fails. Plug the original HD drive back in and boot is fine and appears to be running off the SSD mostly...quiet and fast. But the old hard drive does tick away now and then. So, I'm thinking this is not how it should be and not as efficient as it should be. This is why I bought the SSD...to boot faster, play games and most common aps off the SSD...faster. Where did I miss the boat...?

Is boot manager something I can add? I tried to boot via the upgrade disc and do a repair, but it fails saying "Partition for windows missing"...which may be a formatting issue too. I am guessing the partition houses the boot manager...?? How can I fix. I get Microsoft security error during repair...

I would format the SSD then do step by step what you did the first time.

edit: also take a look through the Tutorials section. I'm sure there's several concerning SSDs and their various configuration options.

A:want ro add a solid state drive to my pc

The spec sheet for your system shows three 3.5" bays so yes, you should be able to install a ssd drive however you need to check to see IF you have an unused sata port on the board AND an unused sata pw connector.
As for drives, either samsung or intel.

Hey All,

I am building a computer in the next week that the customer wants a SSD 2.5" drive. I've never built a PC with an SSD in it. Couple of questions

Will the standard 2.5" drive bay in a case hold the drive alright?

Will the drive be susceptible to electro shock and data loss in a power failure or hard reset?

Does the SSD need to be insulated in the case any particular way?

Does the SSD need specific proprietary power or SATA cables to interface with a modern motherboard?

Thanks

A:Solid State Drive

Connections and Size will very on which drive you get, but traditionally it will fit in a 2.5 bay and can support a sata connection. Nothing extra is needed. It shouldn't be any more susceptible to data loss during power failures then normal drives (of course like normal drives, you may lose data if you are writting to it during said power loss).

For more details see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive
