I am looking to install freeware software for a call/help support with regards to technical support within our office. Does anyone know any good Unix platform software, preferably free, that I can use in order to create a sort of ticket system.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cannot vouch for this but a quick Google search for free help desk software found
http://www.liberum.org and it doesn't look too bad!

Of course, you could always design your own.

What a surprise with wages so low there.
Sooner or later I expect that outsourcing will end up costing someone a lot of money, make money for the lawyers and put the company into bankruptcy.

I recently uninstalled Avast 7 free AV which I have been using & recommending since v4 largely because it just became too busy/ambitious/bloated/resource hungry...etc... but the final nail in their coffin was the recent iYogi Fubar-ness/fiasco https://blog.avast.com/2012/03/15/iyogi-support-service-removed/We had initial reports of this behavior a few weeks ago and met with iYogi's senior executives to ensure the behavior was being corrected. Thus, we were shocked to find out about Mr. Krebs' experience. As a consequence, we have removed the iYogi support service from our website and shortly it will be removed from our products. We believe that this type of service, when performed in a correct manner, provides immense value to users. As such, over the next weeks, we will work with iYogi to determine whether the service can be re-launched.That they're actually considering still using this service speaks volumes to me about their (Avast's) business model/marketing strategy. Buh bye Avast, hello M$EMy parting shot to Avast/iYogi.

I just crossed m mind this site might be helpful for this...

I’m part of a startup where we have a variety of clients spread out across the Los Angeles area. Our “call center” is basically our cell phones. There’s been some discontent with this because clients call us on our time off. Is there a way to convert our calls into email notifications? An email is less intrusive than a phonecall...

A:Email based call center

Hi,
This is a UK-based call mgt service. Perhaps something like this in your area? It would enable you to have a 'standard' among your co-workers and a consistent service.

Hi guys,
A client is planning on setting up a call center using an E1 line, that a telephony company has already provided with a toll free number. they want about 20 workstations and a wallboard screen should also be included. the hardware (cisco) isn't the problem
but the software bit that will be able to ensure reports on all incoming, outgoing, received and missed calls is the problem. If anyone has a clue on the best software for the job kindly assist.

(does anyone have any recommendations for a good phone system for a call center which must act like it is many different companies? for each 'company' we represent, i must be able to build an english and a spanish call center.

we currently have two nortel business communications manager boxes but i think that a product better suited for our particular functions would improve our performance.

we have two pri's going into each bcm.

we also have a number of issues with the d channels intermittently going down.

thanks in advance for any advice.)

A:(call center phone system)

If you are looking to replace your system the Avaya (Lucent) Definity is excellant. Very pricey though. It will handle any configuration you can think of running. It is the same system used by HSN and the Federal Reserve. I've worked with Nortel, Siemens-Rolm and Fujitsu and the Lucent was the best of them although for cheaper money the Fujitsu 9600 isnt bad.

Okay, this is just weird....
.... phone rings, call display shows up as UNKNOWN, I was expecting another phone survey or something but before I hang up I figure I'd at least see wgo it is. He asks for me by name then says he's from the "Windows Support Center" or something like that. I can tell he's at a call center in India or something, poor phone connection, I can hear other people in the back ground.

He says our computer is sending out error messages every time we're on the web or something like that, might be from a virus or some kinda windows errors. We have 5 computers, I think I'm clever by asking him which one he's talking about and he replies "the one running Windows 7".

Okay, so I'm skeptical, but figure I'll see where this foes.

So he asks me to run EVENTVWR on that computer which brings up a "even viewer: window, he asks me to look under WINDOWS LOGS - APPLICATIONS and read to him what the sources are, he asks me how many there is etc. I tell them there are hundreds, he asks for the sources and gives me some kinda techno talk as to what's causing that error.
Then he asks what the sources are for the ones marked in yellow as a warning, get more techno talk.

Next he asks me to run WWW.SUPPORT.ME which brings up a "support connection" window "powered byLogMeIn ". It asks for a 6 digit code which he gives me. Now I don't know what to expect, for all I know this will ope... Read more

I gave my laptop for repair of my fan which was giving very weird sound and then I got call back, which I could not attend. They left a message for me to call them back with a number. When i called on that number it got redirected to general voice mail. I asked them to connect me to the reapair center personal. Now the main headache starts. They can't connect me to the center. All they can do is that they can generate some ticket/requiest saying that those personal need to contact me. Even after calling three times, I haven't got call back yet. Also, as that person has sent me a voice mail, he must be waiting for my answer and certainily won't call me back. So, now my laptop is going to be in the facility for forever and i need it by 14th Dec, which won't happen. I don't have any medium to reach those people, nor those hp customer service people. As their policy says, if they can't contact me in 3 business days, my laptop will come back unrepaired.  And, also it will miss the delivery date of 14th.  Worst service support ever.  And worst part is that evevytime I call them, each person says I don't see any ticket assignment by anyone to get you call back. Unbelievable. So what, they just say whatever they want to say without doing anything.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

I just received a phone call from a person purporting to be from the Windows Technical Center, Jacksonvill, FL (888-970-4250) who said that they have noted a security issue with my computer.  This person asked me to open the run command line and bring
up the windows event viewer (eventvwr).  Prior to opening up windows event viewer I asked for verification of this person's credentials and he gave me the information above, and a name that I did not write down.
The process appeared to be somewhat suspicious and I said that I would need to verify this person and organization and call back the toll free number before I went any further.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and can offer any advice....

A friend of mine is in Canada on a dial up connection. Her parents are threatening to discontinue her internet because they say they're missing calls. When I had a dial up in Florida, we had software that allowed the phone to take messages, and even let the phone ring while I was online, allowing me to decide if I wanted to answer the phone (and be disconnected from the net), or to let it take a message.
She says she used something being run from a website (callwave.com) but that it no longer allows connections from Canada.
I'm out of date on dialups, but there has to be software that allows a phone to take messages and maybe even ring while a person is online. Any help greatly appreciated, thank you.

I had some time in the past posted a similar question to this post but never received a good answer. So I am trying again.

Occasionally there is a svchost process that when initiated causes a lot of downloads. See the attached for the services called for this process. I would like to determine why these downloads are occurring. My goal, if possible, is to reduce or eliminate these downloads. So my question is:  How do I determine which software is initiating this svchost process to run? Or am I asking the wrong question?

Note:  Windows Update service is set to manual; Where possible, I have configured all installed software to not automatically install or even check for updates (I do these checks manually every week).

A:Which software initiates svchost call that causes lots of download?

Occasionally there is a svchost process that when initiated causes a lot of downloads.
This is often related to Infections that cause these problems. Any programs that over-use svchost process are often bad.
You may have been given some incorrect information, or others did not understand your problem earlier. Please place this in the hands of the Experts.

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.
If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create two logs. Note: Windows 8.1 Users will not be able run DDS and create a log
When you have done that, Copy and Paste your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT Here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the requested logs, then still start the new topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.
After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can... Read more

Ok guys I've got/getting a Compro VideoMate Vista T750F and I need a piece of software to makes watching TV/Movies/listening to music easier. Windows Media Center is the best for this I've heard, but on the version of windows I have (A slimline version of XP) it isn't installed and I really don't fancy reformatting. I have had a look at "SageTV Media Center for Windows" but isn't what I'm looking for as it has no real control over movies (as far as I can see).

So if anyone could recommend me something, that would be great, I would like options for Movies, Music, TV, Recordings etc..

Thanks

Matt

** It also needs to be compatible with the TV card that I am buying, which is kind of important that I should have mentioned earlier.

Below are some of the features that right away come to mind (just listing what's coming to mind). Am sure that as I spend more time, I will be able to think of many more desired features/functionality:

People should be able to view the courses offered
Register for courses
Give Feedback for courses
Training Center Administrator should be able to add/update courses (along with details about courses, details about faculty, course fee, course duration, course timings)
A module for managing faculty profile

A module for reports

I have an older HP Scanjet 4850 flatbed scanner but I need the HP Solution Center software in order for it to work and thus have a chance of it being compatible with Windows 10. I've had to use it in compatibility mode in Windows 7 and it had to downloaded from their site in the past... so it may or may not work anyway. HP has apparently removed it from their site if I list my model for drivers & downloads. You can download the driver but the HP Solution Center is not listed. Windows Compatibility Center says it is compatible if that means much.

Is this still available?

Inexpensive (around $100) flatbed scanners are hard to find anymore let alone being compatible with Windows 10. Are there any?

Do you think any listed as compatible with Windows 8 will also work with Windows 10?

I'm attempting to download, install, then run the LSC application on a computer running Windows 7 64bit. After downloading I attempt to run the installer and I receive the message "The operating system is not adequate for running Lenovo Solution Center." This tells me that I'm getting the 32bit version, not the 64bit version. The page gives me two download options, I've tried several times to get the 64bit version with to no avail. Looking at the links, I see that both the 32bit and 64bit versions are the exact same URL.  This is why I think I'm getting the 32bit version every time I attempt to download from their site.  The URL for the Solution Center download page is: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovodiagnosticsolutions/tools/lscoverview Are there any staff monitoring these pages that can let me know if you can look into this issue for me? Also, is there a general download repository that I can check out that anyone knows about?

A:Vista Security Center says no antivirus software and firewall not on

Recall Vista did not see my NOD32 and Zonealarm, and in fact got to a point where NOD32 and Zonealarm did not start on bootup. (I must say that it is possible that although I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR AND ONLY USER) of this Vista Business machine, when I set NOD32 and Zonealarm executables (.exe's) to run under administrator priveleges, it may have triggered something to cause the Vista Security Center to "tilt." Thus don't mess with default settings on NOD32 .exe and Zonealarms .exe after installation.)

One thing is sure, it is apparent that Vista does not recognize NOD32, so if you get a red icon in your task bar for which Security Center states "no antivirus software found" and "no firewal l software found" then you need to do the following (which worked):

1. Repair the Vista Winsock
2. Download several registry repair programs and run them.
3. Reinstall NOD32
4. I also used a system restore point for several days before problems started occurring.
5. Reboot

After the system restore, everything runs like a charm. Thus, I suspect 90% of problems at this site can be fixed by user running system restores to previous dates and ensuring they have good antivirus/firewall software.

As I am on dial-up, I have a PCI faxmodem, I was wondering if anyone might know of software that would work with most modems, that would notify me of incoming calls and allow me to disconnect to answer the phone. I subscribe to call waiting and use a USR faxmodem on my old computer (Win 2k), and it comes with "call notification" software. The software won't work with the faxmodem I have on the Vista computer, however, and there'd be no point to take the modem out of this computer and install it in the other. So I would like to know if there is some generic notification software, free or for purchase, that I could use with Vista. Thanks for your help.

A:looking for "call notification" software for Vista Premium

Hi DaveWfg,
Welcome to the forums.

Only software I can find that does this is Call Wave. Modems are around 5 to 10 dollars a pop. Might have better luck finding a new compatible modem to install.

My Media Center (on Vista Home Premium) used to work just fine, up until about a week ago, when I moved from UK to Bosnia. When I tried to use it this time, the green Media Centre logo had vanished. Microsoft recommended setting a new shortcut to ehshell.exe which I did, but it is now saying Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, open Event Viewer or contact your system administrator.

I have not changed any of my policies, and when I looked at the Event Log I had something like 160 events for MC Update over the last couple of months. I checked the policies anyway, and none of the Media Center ones are set to Disabled.

I was previously connected wirelessly to my home network in UK on an Orange Livebox, and had set my laptop to be able to share media with my home PC, which it did just fine. I did not change any of the settings upon coming here, and am now connected via wired router to the local network.

On a similar note, my Windows Media Player will no longer go into 'Mini Player' mode on the toolbar, and the option that would normally allow me to tick or untick the toolbar is gone. I'm not sure if this is related.

I can provide more info if needed. If anyone has any ideas at all I would be grateful.

I've seen reports in the past where Windows users said that the Action Center in Windows 7 was showing that their security software (antivirus, anti-spyware or firewall) was not installed. However, it was installed and working normally.

The following Microsoft KB article explains the reason why the security software is not recognized by the Action Center.

Quote:
Cause: Due to a change to the Security Center interface for ISVs, some antivirus, antispyware, and firewall programs could be incompatible with the Action Center in Windows 7.

New APIs were introduced in Vista SP1 that implemented new API's. More information on this case be found at the following link:

Upcoming Action Center Changes for Security Vendor Software

If the application vendor does not use the appropriate API's, the Action Center will not show that the product is properly installed.

Resolution: Please contact the antivirus\antispyware\firewall vendor for a newer version of their software.

I just initialised my 1TB hard Drive (which is still empty) and wanted to call it D but the system suggested I call it E because other programs may wish to use the D that has been allocated to the Optical Drive.

So I left it at E.

Any particular reason why I can't go back in and change mechanical hard drive to D and the Optical Drive to E?

In passing, when I initialised the mechanical drive I set the Simple volume at less than the Basic figure shown and now have a tiny unallocated portion - do I just ignore it? (Never initialised before, so I guess it goes down to experience)

A:wanted to call it D but the system suggested I call it E

Hello Aurondium,

If you like, you certainly could safely change the drive letters around on the DVD and HDD to what you wanted.

Some time ago I got some security pop-ups/redirects in IE. I don't remember the exact content, but the message was about a security risk and that I should press OK to scan the system.

I did not press OK, but googled this on another computer I have. Found a reference to a Sirefef virus.
found a manual removal process to remove the redirects/pop-ups in IE (have some experience in removing malware and virus).
Then tried to scan computer using Ad-Aware Antivirus. It found the virus, but couldn't remove it.
Tried running Spyhunter. It also found the same virus, but couldn't remove it.

After scanning, trying to repair, deleting, scanning, repairing etc numerous times, I thought the virus was gone.

Then realized that windows security center, windows firewall, windows update, windows defender was disabled. When trying to enable it again, error messages appear that the system is preventing it from re-enableing (messages are in Norwegian, so not much use posting here?)

Installed and ran microsoft security essentials. Found <Trojan:win32/Sirefef!cfg>
Ran Ad-Aware antivirus again now, and it came up with four infections:

I recently ran into a situation where a rogue anti-virus application was still being reported by Windows Security Center as being installed even though it had been removed. Someone else here experienced a similar issue.

After doing much web searching, I managed to stumble across this page:

http://www.pchell.com/support/multiple_antivirus_in_security_center.shtml

it provides steps on resetting the Windows Security Center catalog it uses to "know" which anti-virus apps are installed or not. This info is also useful if you've uninstalled one legit anti-virus app and are trying to install another legit one. In the event a legit anti-virus app doesn't do a "clean" uninstall, the steps on that page can help Windows Security Center recognize the old app is no longer installed.

I have done this on the Windows XP system I mentioned above and it worked well. I started this thread to make others aware of this in the event they are fighting with Windows Security Center erroneously reporting multiple anti-virus apps being installed.

I have NOT tested this procedure on multiple systems or different releases of Windows so if you decide to give this a try, USE CAUTION!

Peace...

A:Info on correcting incorrect anti-virus software reported by Windows Security Center

I wanted to add that you can take care of this manually in XP:
1. Click on the Start menu.
2. Select Run...
3. Type wbemtest and click OK
4. Connect to root\SecurityCenter
5. Click on Query
6. Type in or copy/paste SELECT * FROM AntiVirusProduct and click on Apply

If there is more than one result, it means there is more than one Antivirus program installed. Double click on each result to view the properties for that Antivirus product. Identify the product(s) installed and DELETE any records for an Antivirus software that is no longer installed.
For the firewall listing you would have to query SELECT * FROM FirewallProduct

Received fraudulent phone call from 18883113841 claiming to be a dell tech support who later started verbally abusing and cursing. Seems like info has been stolen from Dell. Dell is not taking responsibility and leaving it's customer vulnerable that undermines the trust on the entire Dell company. Who would like to buy from Dell knowing that privacy will be compromised? On behalf of all affected customers, I request Dell to provide the affected customer necessary safeguards to help rebuild the customers trust on Dell by acknowledging their sufferings. Thank you very much.

I was playing CoDUO one day and tried to play a map which would not load because the game was reading the wrong files. I decided it was a great itea(at the time) to just go and delete all of my call of CoD/CoDUO files without uninstalling either first. After deleteing all files(or what I thought was all files) I tried to reinstall both games. When I insert the CD, the main title screen opens and gives me the options to play in single/multiplayer, or uninstall. if I click on uninstall, the uninstall wizard starts to open, then goes away with no affect. I found a post here on how to possible delete Cod and CoDUO from my computer, that post is here: http://forums.techguy.org/games/472741-uninstall-call-duty-help.html . I have followed the steps given by colmaca but to no success. I have tried searching in all hidden/non-hidden and all indexed/non-indexed places on all my drives to find anything related to Call of Duty, and get nothing. Is there anything else I should try? Please help, I would like to get back to my 'clan' on CoDUO

Hi, 3 rundll32.exe's are running in the task manager and Windows action center reported no security software (no firewall, antispyware, antivirus) was running but after about 3 restarts the message went away and now it says everything is fine. I use McAfee.

But the 3 rundll32.exe are still running (I use win7 64 bit) and it won't let me view it's properties whenever I right click it in the task manager. And I scanned with kaspersky rescue disk and it found nothing.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.
