No Sound Issue T440P

Q: No Sound Issue T440P

Hi All, We have recently bough two T440P laptops and two Thinkpad pro docks 90w for staff members. The laptops all have Windows 10 64bit OS installed, and the latest drivers off Lenovo Website . I tested the sound equipment they both works fine.But..Sadly both Laptops cant play sounds once docked.Dock1 - HDMI - Will display the image, recognised in playback devices but no sound comes out the speakers connected to the dock.Dock2 - 3.5MM Jack - Will play sound when directly Plugged into the Laptop BUT not through the dock. I have tried upgrading the Firmware for the Dock no luck... any suggestions? Kind regardsJames Sewell

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am having an issue upgrading the proc and RAM in my Lenovo t440p (20ANS04504) notebook. I have done the following: 1. Removed power cord2. Removed battery3. Discharged static and wore an anti-static wristband4. Held the power button down for 30 seconds5. Removed the fan/unlocked the processor unit6. Removed the original processor unit7. Installed the new processor unit8. Locked the processor unit9. Screwed the fan back in10. Powered the notebook up When I power up, the power button remains lit (green) for 5 seconds then powers off. There is no error code nor a prompt for ThinkPad setup. When a swap the old processor back, I am able to boot. I've also done this same process when adding RAM. I get the same issue. I did research and received confirmation from forums, vendor and Lenovo FRU guides that I ordered the correct parts. The fact that this issue occurs when I swap either the RAM or processor leads me to believe that there may be a internal setting that I need to modify. Here are details of each part New RAM:MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G6E18GB 2RX8 PC3L-12800S-11-11-FPDPAE6RW011 Old RAM: MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G6E18GB 2RX8 PC3L-12800S-11-11-FPDPAE2CE013 New Processor: Intel Core i7 Processori7-4900MQ, 2.8GHz, 8MB CacheProduct Code: BX80647I74900MQS-spec: SR15KS/N: 2W305002A1436Batch: J307A421Old Processor:Code on actual part: 11S0C62669ZVJ8CC46H0MWFRU: 04X4051 Notebook:Lenovo t440p (20ANS04504) I've tried modifying the ThinkPas Setup config to to the follow... I have a T440p which came with a non backlit keyboard, which I wanted to replace it with a backlit one. After installing the new keyboard the backlight wouldn't come on (i'm using Fn + spacebar, the keyboard has the light icon on the spacebar and the OS shows an icon for the backlight).I tried swapping it out with a friend's keyboard (from a t450s which was replaced due to a damaged key) but without any luck. Could this be an issue with the motherboard or controller? What are my options? Thanks! I appologise if I have overlooked a topic describing this issue, but all of the topics related to the keyboard backlight were related to the fact that the keyboard wasn't backlit while the user was expecting it to be.

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... I waited until the last minute (literally) to upgrade from Win7 to Win10. During the wait I kept up with all the Win10 HP blogs. My HP all-in-1 printer works great thanks to the support blog but I am still having difficulty getting my BOSE speakers to sound as they did with Beats on Win 7. I have downloaded and installed the compatible IDT HiDef Audio CODEC driver but the sound quality is still poor. The "Speakers/Headphones" property sound setting is "24-bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)". I would like to adjust the treble/bass settings as before - I want my BOSE speakers back!! Any recent recommendations?Thanx!!

I have put the sound card into my computer and made sure that I've hooked up everything correctly, but I have ran into a problem with it. When I ran the download "Product Identification Module Update" from the Creative website, it's telling me that I don't have the right OS, and tells me to update to Windows 7 or later versions. Well, my problem is that I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, which I know is plenty new, and I don't understand why it's not letting me download the update/driver for the sound card. I had this issue before, all of a sudden the sound coming from my computer gets really quiet even though everything is maxed out. Before, it seemed to have been triggered when I moved my computer from one room to another. I wasn't able to move it back right away but when I did it was still happening. I removed the sound card I have, replaced it, tried different PCI slots, tested my onboard sound card, etc but to no avail. Eventually it fixed itself and I have no idea what caused it.

Earlier today my sound was working perfectly fine. I left my computer (on the entire time) to do other things and when I got back to it the volume is again really low. When it was happening before the sound seemed to be crackling on higher volumes but there's no crackling that I can hear this time. I again tried my onboard sound card and the issue was also affecting it. I normally use headphones but also tried speakers and the issue is still there on them too. Like I said though, my computer was on the entire time I was gone and nothing was changed but this suddenly started happening.

Considering it's affecting both sound cards I imagine it has to be an issue with something else, like my motherboard or Windows 7 itself. I wasn't able to find what was causing it last time though so honestly I have no idea.

Edit: Update, I found a pair of USB headphones and their volume seems fine. I hope this means something. I assume that with USB it's not going through either sound card (though that doesn't m... Read more

Hello and welcome Sakonoso now to me it seems that the audio through the USB port might be coming from the board audio and not the sound cards hence why it is ok. Having said that usually the on board stuff is usually cut off if there is a sound card installed.

Now it seems to narrow it down a little if this is the case and there are some things you can run sfc and a chkdsk to see if there is anything going on in the system

Ok, first of all, i'm not sure how to properly explain this, because it's confusing, but i'll try my best and if any more information is needed please let me know!

So, I bought this packard bell laptop preinstalled with windows 7 from pc world in September. And for as long as I can remember, i'm having issues with sound. Not huge issues, small issues that are really annoying.

What basically happens is, when i play music or any other sound, it plays fine, clearly, through my speakers and headphones (tested both), but every 30 seconds or so, it makes a buzzing noise that lasts around 2-3 seconds (sometimes longer, will be explained), and during those 2-3 seconds, my computer basically freezes. I can't move my mouse until the buzzing stops. This only happens when sound is played. I've had it tested and the sound card proved to be fine, so i'm not sure what the issue could be.

Occasionally, the buzzing would last forever, until I have to hold the power button down on my laptop, because I can't move the mouse/do anything, this happens rarely though, its more of a 2-3 second thing.

Some information about my speakers/drivers:

It's a packard bell easynote tx86, installed with:

Conexant High Definition Audio, and Intel (R) Display Drivers (According to device manager)
It has Dolby Home Theater featured on the speakers
On the control panel, according to the playback audio devices, it has: S/PDIF interface, a long with just "Speakers", both powered by the ... Read more

Hello everyone,

My audio has seem to quit on me. I updated to the newest drivers for my mobo (biostar A870U3) from their download page and now I get no sound whatsoever from my speakers. I have tried uninstalling all of the sound devices from the device manager and letting windows reinstall them, but to no avail. I have also made sure that the onboard sound is on in the bios. When I uninstall the sound devices, it defaults back to the windows default audio driver which won't recognize something is plugged in.
It greys out my speakers and then defaults to the Digital Ouput, but I have no such device. I then have also tried downloading the onboard audio drivers from the mobo download page and installing them. They install but it then defaults to the Realtek Digital Output (once again, I don't have such a device). If I go to the realtek HD audio manager and disable front panel detection, it doesn't even recognize any of my back panels being plugged in. Even if I try to plug in my headset mic, the manager doesnt pic it up.
If I play music at this point, the speaker shows the level volume changing but I dont hear anything. I've tried switching back and forth all configurations in the manager and changed the levels of things, still nothing. Can anyone help? Or am I gonna have to go pick up a sound card?

That picture also shows it trying to use the front jack, which I dont have hooked up because I want to use the back panel. So I'm assuming that may be part of the reason. And ... Read more

A:RealTek OnBoard Sound Issue - No Sound

The first thing I see is four HD Audio devices in the Device Manager that should be uninstalled (RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click Uninstall) then restart the PC. Get rid of them to eliminate any possibile conflicts.

If there is a "default" setting for the sound outputs, set it to default and see if that helps.

I notice a web cam that is also showing up. They can tend to cause issues too so temporarily disconnect that from the PC while you are trying to get the system audio setup.

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

Yes, you can upgrade both. Max RAM is 16GB (2x 8GB), and you could install any CPU from the below list:

i5-4210M
i5-4300M
i5-4330M
i7-4600M
i7-4700MQ
i7-4710MQ
i7-4800MQ
i7-4900MQ

I'm only listing few models for the sake of keeping the list short. Basically any Haswell CPU should work.

To do this upgrades you need Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here:  click me!

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Not charging on ThinkPad T440p.

Regarding this issue, please shutdown the system and remove the battery from the system, and switch on the system only with power adapter and go to device manager by right clicking the computer and select manage.

In device manager go to batteries option and expand it and right click on Microsoft ACPI and click on uninstall, after that shutdown the system and connect battery and switch on the system by connecting both battery and power adapter and check it, this should resolve the issue.

Hello everyone, I need to ask you a question about ram voltage of a t440p. It came with 4gb, and wanted to change one slot to a bigger memory module.Techincal data say this laptop uses ONLY DDR3L (1.35v) because of the Intel i5-4300 (which also states this in its tech sheet). My question arised when I opened the backplate and found there are already 2x2gb modules of DDR3 (1.5v) working in it. When searching for data sheets of the rams, both work only at 1.5v.What's happening? I really don't underestand if they are running in a lowered voltage state, or why they are working at all. Here's one of the modulesThank you in advance

A:[QUESTION] t440p RAM upgrade

Is this a second hand T440p? (I don't recall Lenovo installing Kingston Value RAM modules in ThinkPads...)

Basically there is nothing you should worry about, a T440p can use both 1.35v and 1.5v RAM if I remember correctly. And 1.5v RAM can also run at 1.35v.

If you plan to upgrade your RAM I would remove those modules (they're Kingston's cheap RAM line) and install 2x 4GB or 2x 8GB (the latter is the max RAM supported by this model).

First of all greetings to all of you on this forum! This is my very first topic in here and, quite frankly, might be one of the only threads I'll ever make, that's because I'm on an impasse where I need some advice before doing anything that might mess things up. Anyway! Back to the situation at hand. While working earlier this week I accidently spilled coffee all over my computer (thanks body for having a sudden urge to sneeze just when I was taking a sip of it). Presently I shut my computer down, removed the keyboard and dried everything that I could below the keyboard/"fluid-shield" and squeezed some paper towel below it keys as well. After all that I hooked everything back together and turned the computer on to check for failures and unfortunately one little key wasn't working: my dear little left key. Luckly it wasn't a letter key and I could carry on with my work for up until I had some time to try to resurrect it (which is today). I have to mention that my warrant expired an year ago and I do have some experience working with electronics, so it wouldn't hurt to disassemble the keyboard itself and check for coffee-blockage in the circuitry, which I suspect it is the case because otherwise I'd expect a whole array of keys to go bad all at once. The thing is, after removing the board from the computer I can't remove the plastic back (the one that slides and hides the screws) save for the lateral plastic clamps. Digging the web for a solution didn't... Read more

Hi, my 3year old lenovo t440p laptop shuts down after few seconds when it's attached to AC and battery is inserted. It also does not start up when the battery is inserted and connected to ac power. It's  running fine when connected to ac power and battery removed. I tried my charger and battery on another laptop and they are working, I'm experiencing the same issue when using different battery and charger. I tried to push power button for 11th times and WA like this but no luck. I was thinking to update the BIOS, but I'm not sure if it possible without battery..

Trying to pair a bluetooth headset and having all sorts of trouble. I have installed the Intel package, but still have issues. At one point I did have the audio working, but now I can't even get that to work. I was never able to get the mic up and running. In Device Manger, there are 2 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device" items. Windows update does nothing for them. At one point they were listed as Bluetooth Remote and some other Bluetooth device, but neither device could start. (error 10) I have 2 Bluetooth radios listed. (Intel and the MS Enumerator)  I am able to pair the headset, but it just doesn't work after that. Spent almost all day trying to get this to work, ready to pull my hair out. Hopefully someone here can help me. When I do a 'connect' in Bluetooth Device Control, I get 'Error connecting to headset. Please retry this operation'. And FWIW, I have a T430 here that I connected to with no issue. - Jon

Here are the hardware IDs on the Bluetooth Perihperal devices if that helps. 1. BTHENUM\{24df01a9-3e4f-4c9f-9f66-5aa8ab14f8f4}_LOCALMFG&00002. BTHENUM\{84a1e9b8-12ba-4a9c-8ab0-a43784e0d149}_LOCALMFG&0000 Oh and I'm running Windows 7, not Windows 8.

Hi, I have a T440p thinkpad with a docking station. I am able to display 2 monitors fine (HP L2245wg). I have recently acquired a 3rd monitor (Dell P2214H) and would like to set it up. I have the DVI and VGA in the HP monitors and an SD port cable in the new monitor. However, when all 3 are plugged in, the DVI HP monitor fails to display anything. I went into the display settings on my laptop and it is reading the monitor is connected but not displaying anything. Am I missing a driver? Or are these monitors/laptops just not capable of displaying 3 monitors? If you could let me know I would very much appreciate it. Thanks

Hi I have a Lenovo T440p computer and my webcamera software seems to be installed and work, but it is not detected by my computer. The computer system is Windows 10 and I have never used the camera before. I installed the software, but it did not seem to be detected as it did not appear in the device manager controls. Am I missing something?

Hello guys! I'm new here. I recently bought a laptop (model in the subject) and I noticed that over the keyboard was warm... After I check underneath the laptop, I noticed that was too hot! In low~medium use of the system, the average of the temperature is 56C! Is it normal? The cooler doens't spin but everytime that the system is booting up, I can hear the sound of the cooler spinning (like if was cheking if it's ok). This is odd. The other situation that the cooler spin is when I do some tests with Lenovo tool (stress test, to be precise). Should I contact the suport to check personaly what is happening with my laptop or is it normal? Awaiting for an instruction! Thanks in advance!! Alex

Has anyone had any issues installing the latest BIOS update for T440p? My doesn't want to update, it goes through the normal steps, but before the reboot, I am greeted with a blank screen. Pressing the power button to switch off the laptop I hear 2 short beeps then 3 short beeps, but the laptop will not power off. I have to remove the battery to force it to power down. It will reboot as normal, but the BIOS update has failed.

Hi, Yesterday my T440p suddenly stoped charging while battery is connected. If i disconnect battery it works like normal. I have tried uninstalling battery drivers. It worked for couple of minutes, but then it stoped charging again. Link to video tutorial. I'm using windows 10.

I took the battery out of my thinkpad t440p the other day and I noticed a sim card slot. I though it would be useful to install a sim card so that I don't have to use my phone's hotspot all the time, but I'm not sure how. Do I need a special sim card for it to work in a laptop? Do I need special software or anything?

So I got myself a T440p and upgraded the i5 to a quad-core i7, also got a new charger (it requires a 135W for quadcore+Nvidia). For some reason it constantly throttles the CPU down when under load to the highest non-turbo multiplier. For example, when running Prime95 with the multiplier maxed out (ThrottleStop) on both the T440p and the T530 I've been using, on the T530 it stably stays on 35 and on the T440p it goes down to 27 while running. 3740QM vs. 4800MQ, both are 2.7-3.7GHz chips, OS is the same (W7Prox64) So far I've tried the following:setting stuff in Windows power management (minimum CPU states to 100%, high performance profile etc.)using ThrottleStop and setting the multiplier to maximumgetting the newest driversenabling everything enable-able in bios.I have no further ideas on how to squeeze the turbo out of it and I just need that, longer rendering means slower work, and that speed decrease adds up to hours and hours after a while when you do work day by day. And anyway I paid for a product they said can do this performance so I think that's enough explaining in itself.I'm feeling I've been missing some really obvious setting to get that speed, where that might be?

Hello Lenovo Community, I got my T440p three years ago. Now it cannot power up at all. I did the following test. 1. Removed the memory modules, removed hard disk, removed optical driver.2. plug the external battery and AC adapter.3. The red LED on the A side, the dot on "i" of "ThinkPad" will blink three time. I can tell the laptop is intial powered per the manual.4. Press the power butoon, nothing displayed, the light on the power button is off, no fan running, no beep.5. Disconnect the coil-battery of BIOS, and re-connect after about 10 seconds.6. plug the external battery and AC adapter.7. The red LED on the A side blink 3 times. Press the power button. I heard 5 short beeps. The fan is running. That means the power button is still functional.8. Unplug the AC adapter and external battery (because i donot know how to stop the fan)9. Plug the AC adapter and external battery back and press the power button10. no beep, no fan running, no sound, no display.11. the output voltage of the AC adapter is 20.6VDC. the voltage of the coil-battery is 3.06VDC. both are good per the manual. I guess something going wrong on the main board, maybe the BIOS, the CPU... Any reply from you is very appreciate.

Repeat the above step, but leave the CMOS battery disconnected for at least 20 mins...

You will need RAM to boot, if you have two RAM modules installed try booting with only one, alternating the RAM slots.

If it still doesn't work, also disconnect the wlan and wwan cards, the touchpad and try again with one RAM at a time.

Let us know how it goes...

I have a T440P. It has an i5-4200M in it.  I would like to replace that with a i7-4900MQ.  Do I need to take any other things into consideration.   Like Changing the AC adapter. Or anything else like that? Thank you.

When I power on my T440p it gives me the black screen with THINKPAD in large letters, then goes straight to some Windows Start-Up Repair screen. After a while I get an error saying "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and I select the "View advanced options for system recovery and repair". I select "System recovery options" however this is an old computer from my work that still has Windows 7 Enterprise and I do not know the Admin password (I have tried all the typical default passwords to no avail). I was able to reach a Lenovo Diagnostics page and ran a Storage Test(?), see attached screenshot with failures and result code. SEAGATE ST500LM021-1KJ152 Smart short self-test: FAILEDDrive self-test: FAILEDTargeted read test: FAILED Resulit code: UHD016016-UM7WWJ Can someone please help me? Does this mean that I need a new hard drive? Do I have ANY options for getting into this computer in its current state? I am at a loss for what to do next.
